Jade had settled into life at the Corellian Jedi Academy much more easily than she had expected. Serrin had welcomed her warmly, as expected, but even so--- this afternoon she moved quietly through the halls and stepped out into the Gardens of Meditation. She liked this place, it was outside and beautiful, quiet, relaxing, and yet filled with a sense of freedom. To be sure, Jade often left the confines of the Academy itself and wandered about. She'd never 'get over' her innate love of the untamed dangerous beauty of nature left to itself. Mountains, forests, rivers, and oceans all called to her. She disliked cold extremely, having come from a very temperate climate herself. However, she was used to all conditions.
She stepped out from behind a very tall tree, hand lightly placed against its trunk as she surveyed her surroundings. She headed towards the sound of falling water in the distance, voluminous outer robe shadowing her countenance.

Terra reclined under a tree, absorbed in her usual hobby when she wasn't training: reading. This particular spot was her favorite place to sit back and relax after a training session, and lately her training had been intensifying in preparation for her Trials. Time to relax had been becoming more precious every day, and she had been learned to take full advantage of any leisure time she got.
The young woman looked up as she sensed someone approaching, and she recognized Ael Jade, who had recently settled at the academy. When the older woman came into sight, she waved to catch her attention.

Jade was ambling along towards Terra when she came upon her. The other woman waved in a friendly fashion, so Jade walked over. Though she herself had never been a 'reader' per se, she did enjoy a good story, and she was fully capable of conducting research. Her spare time though was spent in other pursuits. "Good afternoon, Terra, what is it today?" She gestured towards her reading material.

Terra smiled and held up her datapad."I'm reading up on the Trials of Knighthood."She put down the datapad and sat up a little."I need to prepare for the rest of my Trials."Ael hadn't been here for when Terra had completed her Trials of Insight and Skill, but since she had already completed those two, there was just Flesh, Spirit, Courage remaining so she had been reading up a little on those.

*Ralph meandered into the garden looking around. Oddly, no one had been around to greet him or show him around, though he was sure if it was anything like Honoghr, the staff were likely very busy. On his left shoulder hung a military style duffle bag that held anything her owned as was not wearing. To stay comfy on the long trip, he had opted for his work out clothes, leaving his arms exposed. He was no hercules, but muscle was starting to show. Around his neck, as always, hung his Permafrost crystal.
Finally he noticed the two women. From his distance it was hard to make out much more then hair color's and a guess at their ages. As he came closer, he put on his best charming smile and let his ocean blue eye's catch just a bit of the sun as his tail of hair swayed behind him.*
Good afternoon. I am sorry to bother you ladies, but I am new to this Academy and don't really know my way around. I am the new transfer from the Honoghr temple training under...*He paused as his former teachers name got caught in his throat.* Ah, that doesn't really matter now...Uh...Oh yeah! New here, no where to go, may I hang out around here with you two for a bit?

Jade nodded. She thought a moment, trying to remember her own Trials---and drawing a complete blank. She frowned, then shook her head, refocusing upon Terra. She had participated in several Trials since, from the other side of the fence. In fact she clearly remembered one young padawan facing an extreme Trial of Courage. Each padawan faced situations uniquely structured to test every aspect of their personalities, and no two Trials were alike. "How long have you been studying with Serrin?" she asked as she removed her outer robe, folding it neatly and placing it upon the ground near Terra. She was wearing her usual form-fitting black and grey tunic and trousers. On the right side of her belt was her own lightsaber, next to it, a hunting knife that had obviously seen much use and yet appeared to have been forged with extreme skill. On the left side of her belt was another lightsaber, one still carrying black scorch marks.
Jade turned. The new arrival was exactly eight inches taller than herself, yet she somehow did not give the impression of having to look up at him. "In that case, welcome to the Corellian Jedi Academy. I am Jade and this is Terra Kiros, padawan of Master Serrin Roma." She had left out her own title, simply giving her common name instead. She'd wait and see what this fellow did. Her finely chiseled features were framed by nearly white hair in front, though at the back her hair was still raven black. Magnetic green eyes peered closely at Ralph. "These Gardens are free to all Jedi...pull up some grass and have a seat." She smiled suddenly, suiting her own actions to her invitation and gracefully seating herself upon her folded up outer robe.

Terra thought for a moment, remembering the day she had first arrived on Corellia, and then the first time she had met Serrin Roma. It felt like years ago, though in reality it had been just under one year ago that she had first started on the path to becoming a Jedi. Since then she had learned so much, and worked very hard and she was just a few more Trials away from becoming a Jedi Knight, though she honestly had no idea what to if she actually succeeded.
She looked up Ael."Almost a year now. I've learned so much with her."
She looked over as a young man approached, duffel bag over his shoulder, and she slowly stowed the datapad in her cloak pocket to read later. Ael introduced them both, so Terra just stood back and let Jade do the talking, as was her usual custom when meeting new people. She was always shy around people she didn't know, and even around Ael, she still hadn't really opened up that much yet.
Still, Serrin had always told her Padawan to at least try and be friendly to new arrivals, so she put on a smile and addressed him."It's nice to meet you."

The pleasure is mine, really.*Ralph dropped his bag a friendly distance away. He quickly patted himself down as if checking for something then nodded to himself before sitting on his bag of clothes. One arm disappeared into his sleeveless shirt, only to produce a folded down staff which he sat on the ground.* If you don't mind me asking, what is training here like? My training on Honoghr was focused around combat mastery, so I still have a lot to learn about the Force..

Jade smiled. She remembered the first time she'd met Serrin Roma. The Twi'Lek had been pregnant at the time, but she'd almost immediately become an important influence in the Jedi Council on Coruscant. Personally she had been one of two people that Jade called 'friend.' She enjoyed the way she communicated so much through her lekku, even though she was not interacting with her own species. "Serrin has a tendency to teach others without even meaning to, one cannot help being in her presence without feeling calmer and at peace with the Force. She radiates a special presence. In fact Terra, she's the reason I returned to Corellia."
The corner of Jade's lips twitched with a faint half-smile as Ralph looked for whatever it was he had lost, and then placed a folded staff upon the ground before he joined them. She decided to draw Terra out and let her develop some more confidence, so her own reply to Ralph's query consisted of, "I am only recently returned to Corellia myself, so Terra would probably be able to give you a more detailed answer than myself, particularly since she is even now preparing for her final Trials."

Terra wasn't surprised to hear that Serrin had influenced Jade so much, and she nodded in agreement. "I don't think I would have made this far without her."
She shrugged when Jade suggested that Ralph ask her for advice, not sure what to tell him, really. If there were deficiencies in his training, she was sure the teachers here could find a way to help him address them. Her face turned a little red when Jade told him how far she was in her training, as she knew there was still a long way to go. Still if he needed help, she would try her best to lend a hand."Well...maybe you can talk with some of the teachers here. They can help you learn more about the Force."Terra's gaze lowered to the ground."I might be able to help a little."

Master Roma sounds very inspiring. I had a mentor like that back on Honoghr. He was firm but kind, always pushed us. A lot of students thought he pushed to hard, but in the end we could all see it in those silver eyes...He always liked to drive home how important it was for us to learn how to fight if we were disarmed.
*Ralph stopped for a moment as he continued to think back. He still found it hard to believe that Zik broadcast his leaving and reasoning, then just dropped off the face of the galaxy. Ralph shook the clouds out of his head and smiled at them both before returning a sparkling blue gaze back over to Terra.*
I am sure you will do just fine in the rest of your trials. My mentor used to say padawan's were like ingots being shaped in a forge. Some are hammered into blade's, sharp and fast like the guardians, others are made into tools to help people, like the consular's. If I took one life lesson away from him, I can say this, whatever you shape into, it will be strong, and last you a life time.

The way Ralph was talking about master indicated that he was no longer there to teach him, which would explain why he was here in the first place. Terra couldn't help but feel bad for him, knowing how much it would hurt if she lost Serrin all of a sudden. Looking at Ralph now, she could see how important his master had been to him.
She smiled, though she felt the way he talked almost sounded like something one of the older Knights here would have said."I know. I'm close but...well..."She sighed softly and looked back at the ground, not really wanting to discuss her path and her training in detail. They had just met, after all, and there were a lot of things about herself that she really didn't like to share with strangers, or even with friends."I've still got a lot to learn I guess..."

Jade contemplated Ralph quietly as he and Terra were conversing. So, it seemed he'd lost his Master and that was the impetus behind his arrival on Corellia. The Master/Padawan bond was one of the closest in terms of Jedi relationships. It was multi-faceted, and it was unlike anything else, vastly different from the peer-to-peer transactions that were much more abundant. One's Master tended to become one's friend and mentor throughout life. Not always in such a close fashion as before the Trials, but it was normal to remain in some sort of contact afterwards.
She smiled at Terra, "People are constantly in motion, Terra, either learning or forgetting. It is important to remember that one knows 'much' only relative to someone or something else. This prevents us from being overconfident, but it is easy to stray to the other extreme. Jedi strive to attain balance, an accurate viewing of one's self in relation to others, in relation to Ashla." She continued more quietly, almost as if speaking to herself, though still clearly audible, "Your recognition of the need to keep learning speaks is a mature point of view." She didn't continue on that line, not wishing to embarrass the young woman, or needlessly inflate her ego.
Jade then addressed Ralph, though she included him in her earlier remarks, "You are from Honoghr then? What news do you have of Adiemus Matango?"

I did not have very much contact. For being a jedi temple, we didn not get a whole lot of people from the outside. I think that may be part of why Zik left...And from what he had mentioned before, a lot of jedi held his view as extreme, and his temper a bit hot...But he is a good man.
*Before Ralph could say much else, a white blur crawled across the garden and came to rest on Ralph's right shoulder. Closer inspection would reveal that the little albino lizard should not be so small, but rather large and harassing. Ralph wrapped a hand around the creature belly and placed it in his lap. The tiny Krayt looked over Terra and Jade with a soft cooing as Ralph petted him
Hope the academy doesn't mind pets...I told him to stay on the ship till i found out, but he doesn't like to be far. This is Durind by the way.

Terra listened as Ralph told them a little about where had come from and about his master as well. It wasn't much, but from what she had heard, it seemed that the Jedi Order had lost someone valuable. It was regrettable, but she guessed that this Zik had good reason for his decision. It wasn't her place to question that.
Ralph was interrupted by a little white lizard scampered into view, perching on the young man's shoulder, and she leaned in to see what it was, smiling as the creature cooed. Usually lizards weren't something that Terra would classify as "cute", but this little one fit that description rather nicely in her opinion.
She giggled a little bit and addressed the little lizard, Durind, now sitting in Ralph's lap. "Hello Durind." She looked up at Ralph. "I don't think anyone will mind. At least I've never heard anything about the academy not allowing pets."

I hope so. Aside from him, I don't have a whole lot that is special to me...
*Ralph looked down at the dragon in miniature and then at the crystal hanging from his neck. The permafrost crystal was the only thing Ralph had of his family. Ralph's life in the order had been traditional. He was taken as an infant and had no contact with his family since. All he knew about the crystal was that it had been in his family since the last force using member died generations ago. Ralph smiled and petted the tiny krayt in his lap.*
Durind was a gift from Zik for my first birthday at the Honoghr temple. He was found on a ship bringing two vornskr to the Matango family. I am not really sure why he is so small, but a test showed that he is a krayt dragon. Named him Durind since is the same color as the durindfire crystals from Tatooine

Jade nodded in agreement with Terra, and went even further, "Indeed, pets are welcomed here. And speaking of vornskrs, my own companion, Selaya, is prowling around out here somewhere." She glanced between both of them, curious to see their reactions. Once upon a time her predatory feline friend had terrified one of the Corellian Academy's ambassadors simply by her proximity. That had been a most amusing experience.
She thought Ralph’s lizard was funny, though it did not occur to her to be ‘judgemental.’ It takes all kinds to make up a universe, and yes, even the Sith. It was through contrast that better ways were revealed and set apart. Every decision at its most basic level could be rooted back to ‘I don’t want to be like that’ or ‘I like that, let’s see if I can do it.’ And this was why young people, padawans, were in a vulnerable state. Most often it came down to who their mentors and role models were. Who paid attention to them. Who treated them as if they were important. She realized she was drifting off into her own thoughts, and refocused on the conversation. She had noticed the jewel worn at Ralph’s neck, and from its quality and uniqueness inferred that it was an heirloom of sorts. At the very least, it was something he valued.
“I think the United Jedi Order will be a good thing, given time.” Her remark may have seemed a little abrupt, but it was in response to Ralph’s contention that the Honoghr Jedi contingent was very isolated.

Terra listened to how Durind had come to be in Ralph's possession, and she wondered if she would ever find a pet like Ralph had, though her training had taken up much of her time and she doubted she would have much time to care for one. Though looking at cute little Durind, it was hard to resist wanting a little companion of her own."Well he's cute."
Her eyes widened a little when Ael mentioned her pet vonskr, and she took a quick look around the garden. How long had that pet of hers been prowling around here, anyway? Terra hadn't noticed anything when she entered the gardens, and she had been sitting under that tree reading for a little while before Ael and Ralph had shown up.
She continued looking around."I didn't see it when I came out here..."

Jade grinned suddenly with a look about three decades younger as a mischievous light glinted in her green eyes. "Oh, she's probably napping, or doing whatever she likes. Selaya tends to avoid people unless provoked." She herself was not at all worried about the vornskrs well-being. The creature knew enough not to hunt within the grounds of the Jedi Temple. Though, she should probably take her on a long trek outside soon. "Not to worry overmuch. Selaya has never been tamed and she follows her own mind." Now that she thought about it, her bond with the animal was a bit unusual.
"Have either of you ever visited the Jedi Academy on Yavin Four? Its denizens have many diverse pets."
