Johun nodded to Kulaan as she sat near him.
How do you like the Academy?

Kulaan smiled slightly she didn't have much of a chance to get a good look around, the only time she had spent in the base she was hurrying after Von. She had however made some small observations in that time.
Of what I have seen it would appear to be a nice place. Considerably larger than the base on Felucia. I was glad to see the trees here in the garden earlier. I have grown to enjoy climbing trees having spent several years on Felucia.
Not quite as large of a selection though. She added with a hint of amusement in her voice.

Glad to see you are enjoying it so far. I hope to challenge you during your studies, but I hope to make it enjoyable.
Johun closed his eyes and entered into meditation.
Tell me, Kulaan. Do you know the Jedi Code?

She smiled when Johun said that he hoped to make it both challenging and enjoyable. Then she heard him in her head asking if she knew the code she nodded but looking back up saw that he had his eyes closed. Shifting slightly she took a deep relaxing breath and decided to say the mantra that she knew to show at least some of the knowledge. Her tail settled in a curl behind her and remained still as she close her eyes and focused. Johun's close proximity helped quite a bit, although a basic skill she had not shown much proficiency in communicating with the force.
There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity.>> The next line caused her the briefest of hesitation, even causing the very tip of her tail to twitch. <<There is... no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force.
She took another relaxing breath her mind hovering on the fourth line. Von's situation had caught her off guard on Felucia. And not that she had recited the mantra, chaotic defiantly seemed to describe it well. She checked back in on Von's presence and it seemed that he wasn't quite on his way yet.

Johun kept his eyes closed and remained still. If not for the occasional breath he took, one might think him a statue, or hologram. He spoke out loud this time.
Very good. Line by line, what do you think it means?
You can answer here or aloud.

Refocusing on the gardens she opened her eyes to look at Johun, her tail uncurling slightly. She looked off beyond him into the trees as a slight breeze shifted the branches. Emotions tend to become distracting. When we are distracted it is harder to focus on what we should be focusing on, and our connection to the force is not what it should be. So when we have settled our emotions we have peace, and with that a stronger connection to the force. As she was saying this she knew she was quite well distracted at the moment. She would have to settle some things and hopefully soon. There will always be something new to learn, even an elder can learn something for a young child should that child have knowledge that the elder does not. Not knowing something does not mean someone is ignorant It just means they do not have that knowledge yet. Her tail twitched towards the last place she had sensed Von. She had no idea how she would be able to help him she only knew that she would have to find a way forward. She had a lot to learn still but she at least knew that. Passion like emotions can cloud our judgement. To become too attached to something would make it difficult to let go, and such attachment could be dangerous. To remove passions and attachments allows us to live more freely and peacefully. Another something for her too keep in mind. She should not become too focused on helping Von as to not be a help to others as well. She took another calming breath and continued. We look to the force for guidance it will always flow. Some use it for good, and some for their own gain. But the force is the force it always will be there and we look to it for balance, and in that balance we find harmony.
We are but servants to the force, if in our service we need to sacrifice our self's to its will then is what we must do. And in doing so when our life is taken we become on with the force. Until that time we serve to the best of our abilities.
She sighed. She had spent much time over the years of her training going over these. But this was the first time someone had asked her about her thoughts on each line. It was also the first time she had considered them after meeting Von. It surprised her slightly to find out how just meeting Von had revealed some of the difficulties of maintaining the code. She glanced back at the base sensing the he was still in there somewhere. She hoped he would be in there for a little while longer.

Johun could tell she was distracted, but he was surprised at how analytical she was with her answers. She had obviously thought about this more than in the past few minutes. A smile crept across his face.
Very good. It was an open ended questions for a reason. Your answer tells much about you, and where you are in your understanding of the Force.
Johun opened his eyes and looked at Kulaan.
How did you discover you were Force sensitive?

She turned back to face Johun to see him smiling. The smile and praise cause her to smile slightly as well and refocus on the conversation. His next question sent her further back into her memories and she had to think for a moment. She looked up into the sky slightly as she thought.
It was a gradual process that ended up accelerating quickly. When I was young I would sometimes seem to react too quickly to some things but not so quickly as to stand out much. I remember this one occasion slightly. I don't quite remember exactly what was going on but someone had thrown something at me while I wasn't paying attention but not too long after they through it I turned and caught whatever it was they had thrown. They were slightly disappointed, as I would guess they thought it would be amusing for whatever reason, but as I had turned early it didn't stand out much to them. But it had seemed strange to me. She sighed slightly. Not having had thought of these events for a while and with her slight bit of training she could see the differences and explain them better. But these were just the small events.
It was probably about a year or two after that, I think, that the event that made it obvious occurred. I was with my parents heading home from a shop. Everything seemed normal and as it was something that we had done frequently their didn't seem to be much to be concerned about. As we approached an intersection something seemed off to me. I wasn't able to explain it then but it felt as if something was going to happen. I stopped walking which irritated my parents and they turned back to take hold of my hand. It was just as they turned that a couple of speeders ran into each other. One of the speeders crashed into the building just feet from my parents. Had I not stopped walking then the three of us would have been exactly where that speeder stopped. No one was serious injured which was incredible in itself, but at that time my parents knew that something was different.
About a month later I was getting ready to depart for Felucia. To become a Jedi initiate. I knew very little about Jedi, Sith, or even the force before leaving. But I have learned much sense.
She looked back to Johun still mulling over the memories, taking a fresh look at them with what she knew now.

Premonition. A unique manifestation of the Force, but a useful one. What all did you learn on Felucia?
Johun began to let Ashla flow through him, radiating outward. He hoped it would help focus Kulaan, and provide feelings of security and warmth.

Kulaan nodded in agreement that the premonition was indeed useful. She had no other cases that had stood out quite as much as that one though. His next inquiry was about what she had leaned while on Felucia. She didn't need to think long about this one.
Quite a bit. They had the early lessons about the force itself and learning how to connect and interact with it. Along with what it meant to be a Jedi. We of course went over the code quite thoroughly. We went over a review of the lightsaber forms. As we were on Felucia we had to know quite a bit about the planet as its not necessarily the safest place out there. the survival training was a bit intense at times, but always observed closely. Also taught was the necessity of working together with your fellow Jedi while realizing that each Jedi has their own path. That's about the time they started letting us figure out in what direction we were to head.
She took a breath here and felt Ashla flowing through and out of him. She felt the peace and warmth of the presence and smiled briefly.
That is a brief summery of what they went over as a group. As i had gone to Felucia with a small group of others. I had stated that we were to figure out our seperate directions later however I received my first lessons the very day I arrived. Before i had left for Felucia I had never seen a spaceport or hangar up close. When we arrived on Felucia I let my curiosity get the better of me and stayed behind for but a brief time. Long enough however to become separated from the group. It wasn't long before a master on Felucia located me and was going to get me back to the group, he however wished to stop and visit a friend in the infirmary. I wasn't worried about going with him however I also had not expected what we were walking into. Not long after entering the room in which his friend was it became apparent that she had, at some point, become possessed by a dark force entity. Having just discovered that i was sensitive to the force I had no idea what was going on and became frightened. There were a few Jedi in the room and there was a brief battle. At some point someone had forced open the door from the outside and I fled. It was of course a while after this that they started going over the code, and the tenants of stifling curiosity. She chuckled slightly. I had a prime example of why that was important. It unfortunately didn't take quite so well as sometimes my curiosity still get the better of me.
She glanced back checking again on Von who was still in the base. Looking around she nether saw nor sensed anyone else nearby. She looked back to Johun glad for the peace and warmth still emanating from him.
That was the first time and up until just a few days ago, the only time I had sensed such darkness. That day though when i saw Von i sensed in him a certain amount of darkness. To see him quite strutting through a Jedi base was curious to me, although since you were right behind him and nothing serious was happening at the moment, there seemed to be no need to intervene. However As I watched the two of you head off to the training halls I thought there might be a opportune lesson at hand and after retrieving my lightsaber I headed off to the training halls. I was able to sense some of the fight but by the time i had gotten there you were both gone. Slightly disappointed I started wandering, thinking about both that day, and the day I arrived. As you know I accidentally ended up in the infirmary, no less in front of Von's room when he walked out. She laughed briefly here as well. I wasn't expecting that at all.
After that you extended your invitation to come along with the two of you. Sensing that the connection was so strange i felt it had to be the force guiding me along its path and accepted, both your and Von's invitation. Von had asked if he could have a brief chat with me before we left with you. She wasn't sure if Johun had heard that or not but check around again quickly. I went out to meet him I came up upon him and he was taking a nap. I decided to let him wake up on his own not really wanting to be too close to him on my own. When he did however something strange happened. She paused for a moment here trying to figure out the way to best describe what had happened. She reached up and scratched slightly behind her right ear, her tail still pointing off towards the base as if it were keeping watch for anyone coming up behind her.He said something to that sword he had after he stuck it in the ground for whatever reason. And after he did that, a dark fog almost seemed to pour out of it forming into a dark figure. I couldn't hear most of what it said but at one point it approached Von and, well, it reached into his body and said something. Whatever happened it was causing Von a lot of pain, I felt a slight echo of his pain... it was horrible. After it was finished and left Von unconscious on the ground it looked right at me. As she said it despite the warmth still flowing through Von she felt an echo of the coldness that had swept over her when the entity had looked at her. Her mind was able to see the image quite clearly and she let that flow over to Johun, as he might know something she didn't. It spoke to me through the force but each word was tormenting and cold. She then repeated what the entity had said for she could remember it clearly, she recited it without the cold or tormenting voice, but she could feel it in the back of her mind.
"I know your there...do not think that I didn't not notice your presence. I allowed you take wittiness to this event, but unlike him I shall allow you to remember what you have seen here. I do not care if you tell his new Master what you have seen for it does not matter to me. What has been done can not be undone, for if you care for him you will not tell him what has transpired here. For if you do his mind will snap, true he will not become what I have fore told his destiny to be but he will be nothing more than a useless vegetable. He will have to live out the rest of his life trapped with in a nightmare, trapped with in his own head unable to speak. Unable to reach out, he will be no use to the Jedi or the Sith. That is why I spared you and allowed you to watch how things unfolded. You hold this boy's life in your hands and in truth perhaps the future as well. After all who knows just how terrifying he will be once he has crossed that line and follow down the path of the Dark Side. Not even I can see that, so what shall you do little one."
It would be clear that this was what had been bothering her, and the reason she had waited until now would be obvious. She and Johun had yet to be away from Von long enough for her to say all of this. After that Von woke up, and as whatever it was had said he seemed to have no memory of what happened. But I couldn't figure out what to do. I don't want to find out that it was being truthful about Von becoming unhinged by telling him, but we don't want him to become a Sith either. I wasn't sure what to do or who to ask other than you Master. As you had decided to take Von with you it seemed necessary to tell you, but after that. She paused, and at a loss for words she merely shrugged her uncertainty her face filled with concern.

Johun listened to Kulaan as she spoke. The news she had of Von concerned him, but it wasn't completely unexpected.
Von's sword is that of an ancient Sith. It wasn't uncommon for Sith Lords to imbue some of their essence into the swords to give them unique abilities. Some more powerful Sith Lords were able to transfer their spirits into these artifacts. In the event of their death, this would be all that was left of them. Some were powerful enough to effect the physical world even after death. We have to keep Von on the path of Light, as he will be more susceptible to the Darkness, given his previous interactions with it and being raised on Korriban.
Johun sat in thought for a few moments.
Did you prefer one saber style to another?

Kulaan listened to every detail of what Johun was saying. If they were to help Von every bit of information might be needed. As as Johun said keeping Von in the light would be both necessary, and difficult. At last now she knew that at least one other knew of what had happened. She relaxed slightly with a soft sigh. Then Johun brought her back to her training.
Oh, er, well as far as the styles went... She scratched behind her ear again this time she twisted her finger in the braid that was there. We went over the basics of the forms and if I were to say which ones I felt a preference to it would be Ataru, and Makashi. Honestly though I've never really felt all that comfortable with any of the forms. It just... I'm not sure something just didn't feel right. She shrugged and stopped twisting the braid around her finger. She hadn't gotten used to it yet and had barely noticed what she was doing with it.

Johun again smiled as she twirled the braid in her fingers.
All Jedi need to be at least knowledgeable and capable with a light saber. So become very proficient, while others, become more powerful with the Force itself. I will try to expose you to as many things as I can, so that way you can find your own path in the Force. I will give you all the tools to succeed, but you will have to be the one to make it happen. Do you have any questions for me?

She lowered her hands to her lap as they were no longer being used in the unintentional braid twisting ventures. Johun's last statement brought a slight hint of excitement back as it hinted towards her further training. As he asked if she had any questions for him, her tail poked around her elbow briefly before pointing up slightly then retreating back to its Von dowsing. She considered for a few moments before responding.
Well my only question inst all that important as it would be answered anyway in time. I will admit that I'm a bit curious as to how you would start training two padawans that seem to have very different methods. But I'm sure you would get into that anyway once Von arrives. She turned and looked back to the base. She was grateful that he was occupied with something but was a little surprised he wasn't there yet. She turned back to Johun starting to look a bit eager for some training. I don't think he would be too much longer. Although she remembered he had been in that fight with Jade, she wasn't sure of any injuries he had received might have slowed him up at all. Nor was she really sure what he was doing in the living quarters anyway.

Nor was she really sure what he was doing in the living quarters anyway. Von strolled into the garden, he could feel Kulaan trying to sense his presence still. In a way it was rather annoying that she felt the need to keep tabs on him, but on the other hand he knew she was just trying to watch out for him. Smiling he continued to mask his presence in the force as he slowly walked behind Kulaan, making sure each step he made was carefully placed as not to make a sound. He continued to move as though he was stalking his prey. He was sure Johun would sense him far quicker than Kulaan would know he was upon him. But it was merely to scare Kulaan, perhaps let her know he knew what she was doing. Moving closer and closer he finally stopped mere feet from the back of Kulaan before he spoke aloud.So...I'm guessing Kulaan already told you about what transpired. In my defense it never meant to get that out of hand, but except for a few broken ribs and maybe a cracked radius no one got seriously injured. Now seeing as that is out of the way, whats with this sickening feeling like I'm about to get in touch with my inner child. If this is going to be a warm heart felt moment were going to share I would like to pass and train in other means.Von looked down at Kulaan and Johun sitting on the ground. Though he wanted to ask Johun a question about something he heard from one of the Jedi knights while sitting in the cafeteria. Speaking through the force so only Johun would hear he spokeI wanted to know what you could tell me about becoming a Jedi Shadow, I heard one of the knights here speaking about them, he was saying they are a myth but something like that can't possibly be true. If so I wish to know what I must do to become apart of this group. To be honest, I don't see myself being much a guardian or a healer. I mean if you think about it, I would be perfect for that type of role. I want to become a shadow of the Jedi order, so please train me. If not by you but someone who knows what I must do to become the best in the order.Oh by the way Kulaan, next time your going to search for my presence. Make sure you don't make your presence or your activties known to that you are searching for. You stuck out like a black para trooper on the middle of Hoth. But Jade says hi if you were wondering where I was.

Johun nodded to Von as he made his appearance.
You will have opportunities to choose your path in the Force.
Not every moment in training will be a heart felt moment Von. Some will be down right heart wrenching.
Johun closed his eyes again and focused.
Please recite the Jedi code and tell me what each line means to you Von.

As she sat there with Johun making periodic checks on Von's presence she began to notice his presence vanishing. She glanced over he shoulder when she was unable to pick out his presence but he had been heading in the direction of the gardens. She smiled he was at least on his way and as she turned back to Johun she had a guess why his presence was vanishing. Likely he had noticed her keeping tabs on him and wasn't thrilled about it but she suspected another motive as well.
A couple minutes later she smirked with a short silent laugh that from behind could have easily been mistaken for a jump. Just as she had guessed Von had tried to sneak up behind her, it was what she had suspected once she noticed him hiding his presence. He then proceeded to assume that she had told Johun all about the fight he had with Jade, her smirk became a smile. When he addressed her to try to tell her how obvious she had been she laughed.
Yes and your attempt to sneak up behind me was made all the more obvious by hiding your presence. She turned to look at him. I assure you had I been trying to hide my trying to keep track of you, you would of had a harder time noticing. If you also noticed I only started keeping track of you after the fight which you asked me to watch over, then proceeded to start before I could get there. And I also find it slightly amusing that you assumed I told Johun about the fight. I hadn't mentioned it or your injuries to Johun, you brought them up.
Although your presence in the living quarters, and lingering there makes a bit more sense now. She added with a smile.

Von thought to himself, he had only heard the Jedi code maybe once before and the words really didn't seem all the clear to him but if he was to continue maybe he could give the best answer he felt was right.
There is no emotion, there is peace...in order for one to give out guidance and help those around them. Their mind can't not be filled with anger, lust, sadness all emotions that would cloud ones mind in order to give an unbiased analogy of a situation. It would have to be clean and precise, thus leading to the best possible and logical assessment of a situation and in the end no conflict would arise.
There is no ignorance, there is only knowledge...to be a fool to your surroundings whether they be of the people or of the terrain. To not know what is going on around you will ultimately be the cause of your downfall and in turn the downfall of the Jedi. To yearn for knowledge and maintain a better understanding of what goes on will in turn keep you on the path to success and immortality.
There is no passion, there is only serenity....this one is strange to me, but I will try and attempt it. One must not hold onto feelings or enjoyment towards any one thing. To hold something close means to have a weakness that can in turn be used against you. One must cut all ties with loved ones and bonds that would in turn cloud our minds. One must be cold and heartless to those around them, maintain the morals of the Jedi code and order. But hold no other ties that could in turn be your down fall.
There is no Chaos, there is Harmony....This one is an interesting one for me. Chaos on the one hand allows the mind to react faster, heightens the minds ability to think on the stop while Harmony can dull the senses. But without Chaos one does not need to fight. By eradicating all forms of Chaos whether it be from petty theft to mass xenocide, remove chaos from the equation we call life and all the would remain is Harmony...peace...order.
There is no death, there is only the force...Death is irrelevant, this last line is point less. In the order that is given this line should be the first. It should be the very first thing you learn, to die does not mean it is the end. For if you believe that it is to be then you can never stand tall against an enemy who stands to gain from your death. You can not fight at your full potential for you fear what lies beyond. No death does not mean the end so there is no death, but only the force.
Von looked over every last word he spoke and nodded yes that sounded about right to him.

Johun listened to Von and thought on his observations. Von wasn't necessarily wrong, but his past and up bringing could definitely be seen in his answers.
You make some interesting observations Von. I would like to point out one misconception in your views. A Jedi should not be cold and heartless. It is true we must not become attached. Jedi are stoic. They feel emotions, it is only natural but they neither give away their feeling, nor act on them on impulsively. Jedi care about all things. But not one thing more than another. We respect the natural course of life and death and accept the will of the Force. Jedi mus focus on the bigger picture, while not overlooking the small scale. Let me ask you both a question:
You are faced with a lynch mob, preparing to execute whom they believe to be a criminal that has committed capital crimes in their society. They have not had a trial, and this "criminal: cam forward of his own volition. Now, he is innocent, but had offer to be executed for these crimes to protect his village, as the mob has threatened the entire village if no one came forward. You are out numbered and out gunned with no authority on this particular planet. What do you do? Do you let the execution continue, knowing that an innocent man has died, with no guarantee that this mob, which belongs to the greater government of the planet may go back on heir word and destroy the village anyway, possibly after the execution or at a later date when you are no longer there? Or do you stop the execution, possibly eliminating the threat of this mob, but bringing down the wrath of the planetary government upon you and this village?
Johun waited interested to here what both had to say...

Von thought for a moment about what Johun said and the scenario that was given to him. He played all the different scenarios on how each action might play out and there wasn't a scenario that would have a definite good way to play out. Von closed his eyes and took a deep breath and calmly assessed the situation. When he finally thought of a scenario that would work out in the best interest he spoke.
Both your scenario's have a flaw and so I wont choose from either of them, but take a bit from each and make my own. First the man who came forward as made peace with death in order to save his village. So what right do we have to take that away from him, as the code said their is not death but only the force. His body will die but his essence will be returned to the force, so one life for the many should not make a difference. True by letting him die their is a chance that the mob will still in turn destroy the village. An yet if you choose to eliminate the threat by removing the very thing the mob wishes to do, then in turn you will have the government of that planet most likely come for you. Now if you want to maintain good relationship with that said planet starting a feud between them and the council does not seem like a very wise decision. As I see it, it is wise to trust those around you but trust, verify and then follow through. That being said this is how I would handle the situation.
Von paused for a moment took a deep breath then exhaled slowly. Von was very good at assessing situations, it was how he survived for so long on Korriban. You gave me an option to choose between your scenarios and I chose not to choose but figure out my own way. Now you may not accept my assessment but I took all the information you have given me and this is what I came up with. In order for good relationships and possibly a future with this planet is to continue in the future. Then the man who decided to sacrifice himself for his village must die in order to keep his home and loved ones safe. The needs of the few out weight the needs of the many. Now that being said, a deal must be made with the planetary government stating that any actions towards the said village are taken place after the execution. Then each member involved in said action should be publicly displayed before all to see and be executed themselves. If the government chooses to accept this deal and in turn decides not to reinforce said punishment. Then all ties from the Jedi order will be cut, whether that be by protection or trade.
Now if they choose to decline this deal, you merely remind them that most of their metals needed for production on ships and other manufacturing needs probably come from mining companies owned by the order. I am sure that by not accepting said deal a delivery here or there going missing isn't completely impossible. Ships disappear all the time in space, orders get lost and accounts get frozen. It is a ruthless tactic but no planet can run on I.O.Us and empty promises. The execution will be stalled of course while they think both of these deals over, giving another member of the order to investigate the crime committed and finding the truth. Hopefully before a decision is made, so you can see three possible outcomes could happen from my answer.
