The Corellian Blademaster couldn't help but smile as the kid went through his explanation and demonstration. The boy had much to learn, but he'd clearly had at least some form of formal training before arriving here. Standing up smoothly the master made his way over to Raja and offered out his hand to pull him up. There is nothing to apologize for. You were showing me what you know just as I had asked. We all fall down, that is not a failing, just a learning experience. Having helped him up Jared moved back to the center of the training area, this time remaining standing gesturing for the young man to take a position opposite him. Before the Jedi in training could make it toward the indicated space however Jared reached out to a nearby rack of training implements and sent a weighted foam ball spinning toward Raja. It wasn't a dangerous projectile by any means but it would sting a little if it hit. Think fast. It wasn't just a trick played on the new kid, although it was sometimes interesting to she the look on a student's face the first time they run into the scenario, but in truth it was a test of a student's reactions, an important thing to understand when testing the sensitivity of a prospective trainee of the academy, especially one who already seemed to have training.

=Raja= The boy bowed graciously, and a slight smile creased his face, but did not respond verbally as Master Flint helped him to his feet. Instead, he followed the elder Jedi back to the center of the room. There was more he could show Master Flint, when he got the opportunity. He hoped his new instructor didn't think he had finished. However, before he reached the indicated spot, Flint unleashed a small surprise on him. Raja had let his guard down somewhat, not expecting anything new to happen until he reached the indicated spot, but his focus was still inward, upon his immediate surroundings and their connection to the Force.
The ball was about halfway to him before he sensed it, and approaching fast. Not having time or confidence to reach out and catch the ball, Raja instinctively hit the deck in a swirl of green robes, and the padded object flew just above his head, close enough to ripple his long blond locks. There was a moment's startled look on his face, but it quickly shifted to one of concentration as he stretched out his right hand. The ball bounced once on the springy floor of the training room, then, despite carrying significant momentum, it changed directions, flying back toward the boy at a slower speed. Raja sat up and caught the weighted ball in both arms, and his face cracked into a crooked grin.
"Was that a test?"

A genuine smile crossed Jared's face as he watched the academy's newest student react. It seemed that in addition to at least some training he had good instincts, quick reactions, and a keen mind. Yes it was. It is my job to test you and so even what seems innocent may be part of a test. Thinking for a moment Flint reached out with the force once more to the nearby equipment racks, sending another object flying toward the student letting the training saber sail through the air more gently than he had thrown the ball. Have you ever held a lightsaber before Raja? This wasn't quite part of the usual testing, but Jared had a hunch and he wanted to see how it played out.

=Raja= Quickly setting the weighted ball down at his feet, the boy took a deep breath and concentrated on the incoming saber, trying to sense its motion and visualize himself grasping the hilt. Stretching out his right hand, he shut out everything around him, including Master Flint. He was grateful that it was moving more slowly than the ball, because he didn't want to activate the blade by mistake. Even a training saber could be painful. But he didn't let any doubts about the intensity of this unfamiliar training saber enter his mind. Instead, he called it to his hand, and caught it cleanly, then kicked the ball away, so it was not underfoot for whatever came next.
"Yes." He replied simply. His training had focused on Form Zero, or unarmed conflict resolution, but he had been taught a few basics.
He hesitated, unsure of what he was being asked, but his eyes shone with eagerness to test the unfamiliar blade. "Am I allowed to ignite the blade, sir?"

Master Flint couldn't help but smile at the politeness of the boy. It was good to see respect for the blade from someone so young. Nodding he gestured encouragingly at Raja. Please do. Show me what you know. He was curious to see what the young man could do. He didn't expect a master swordsman, but it was rare that anyone he was asked to test had even seen a lightsaber up close before, much yet had a chance to hold one for themselves. Taking a step back to give the young man plenty of room he left himself loose, keeping his senses extended and keeping himself prepared to intervene should anything go wrong, it was a training saber, but even a training saber could be dangerous if not handled properly.

=Raja= The boy nodded, his attention quickly shifting from the Jedi Master to the saber hilt. He had been well-trained that lightsabers were tools and weapons, not toys, and not to use one without supervision or without purpose. His mentor had sought to instill both discipline and an instinctive understanding of Form Zero. Having initially caught the weapons with his right hand, he how grasped it firmly with both hands, and ignited the green blade. For a brief second, sadness flashed into his eyes at the revelation of the blade's color, but he pushed the recognition and homesickness down again, with a deep breath.
Carefully and deliberately, he ran through the various poses and sets of Shii-Cho. His motions were fluid, but some of them were imprecise -- not clumsy, but showing a lack of experience and practice. He ran through each move twice, and the second set was more fluid, as he forgot he had an audience and began to let his feeling guide the saber as an extension of himself. Hesitating at the end, he continued into an incomplete set of Soresu moves, fencing the air. He'd never gotten to practice in anywhere as large as the training room, and his motions were somewhat constrained, keeping himself in one small space while demonstrating his technique.
He stopped, and eyed Master Flint questioningly, fearing criticism at his lack of mastery. "That's-That's all. If that's not enough, I could try Ataru?"

Master Flint shook his head politely. No that should be more than enough Raja. I believe I have seen what I needed. And indeed he had. Raja had clearly had at least basic training before his arrival at the academy. There were some gaps that would need to covered but overall he was farther along than most of the younglings and even a few of the younger apprentices in some areas. Whoever had trained him initially had done well. He was curious who it had been and why they had been forced to stop, but that was a question for another day, for now the Corellian Blademaster had to give his report. That should be all for now Raja. You may want to grab some food, we will talk about your results afterwards. With a polite bow and a swirl of blue robes Flint spins around and begins heading out the doors to the training room to report on his session with the boy.

=Raja="Thank you, Master Flint." Raja said. He could sense the blade master's curiosity about him, but he did not acknowledge it, or say anything to prompt further questions. He was still a little apprehensive about his performance, but with the abrupt and firm end to the tests, he knew it was up to the Force now. Instead he smiled, shut off the lightsaber, and returned the bow, before carefully returning the training hilt to the rack on the wall of the training room. Then, he picked up the weighted ball, and likewise returned it to its place, so that all would be in order for the next student or the next class. As Master Flint disappeared through the doors, the boy took a deep breath, and quietly looked around the training room for a moment, a mixture of wonder and awe on his face. It was a thrill to finally be here, and to have real, full-size training facilities to use. After a moment, he shrugged, and followed the elder Jedi from the room. He was hungry again.

After getting settled in again, Halmner headed to his favorite place in the temple. Some laved the gardens, some the hanger, some the roof. But Halmner loved the gym most of all. He could focus on his breathing more, he felt the Force more here lifting than most anything else. This was also the place he got to spar, so that was also nice. He loved to encourage others that were struggling with their exercises, helping some of them with better form.

Halmner had missed out on his gym time when on assignment. Push ups and sit ups were nice but they didn't cut it. He wasn't even hitting the sparing ring. Looking good made him feel good. He worked hard to keep this up. He became a regular and had gotten to know most other regulars. He tried to help others, but it was hard to put what he did and his technique into words.

After a few days training, and getting to know more people, they where more open to talk to him. A few knights, Padawans, and even a couple masters asked to spar. Halmner was well aware of his limits as a thinker or tactician, but he did know he was good at fighting. He offered pointers after beating his opponents. There was one young knight that Halmner had seen get a little arrogant in his interactions with others that Halmner took particular interest in humbling.

Post by Leontyne Ciresi on Jul 7, 2023 11:31:37 GMT -8
Leontyne blocks the downward strike her Padawan learner, Susi Nucio, swings at her left shoulder, the upper half of her green hued saberstaff hissing as Susi's single bladed green blade impacts it rather than her shoulder, dipping her left shoulder down as she sweeps the lower blade of her saberstaff out towards Susi's knees, continuing the conversation she has been having with her Padawan throughout their sparring session as they always do to add an element of distraction to their practice, " . . . authenticate the page when we get to Arkania, and if it does not turn out to be a forgery, we will then head out into wastes where the miners disappeared to . . ."
Hopping up and back to avoid Leontyne's strike for her knees, Susi quickly returns to a ready stance as she finishes her Master's sentence with a mischievous grin, "To validate your theory about them disappearing near to where Veeshas Tuwan was located before it was destroyed, having guessed that was her Master's theory after doing some research in the archives after they were contacted by a diamond broker on Arkania with the tale of a lone miner returning - with a single page filled with Sith writing - from an expedition deep into the planet's frozen wastes. Debating whether to attack or wait for Leontyne, already circling to her left with her saberstaff held down on her right side, Susi proudly explains, I did some digging of my own."
"Well done, Leontyne tells Susi, suddenly lunging forward with Force assisted alacrity towards her Padawan's right side as she swings her right arm up and aims the tip of her upper blade for Susi's hip while saying, We'll borrow an FEG-series pilot droid and that old VCX-100 in the hangar to make the trip."
Susi dips her hands down, her hilt in a two handed grip, to block Leontyne's strike for her hip with the portion of her own saber above the hilt and then - having anticipated her Master switching the upper blade of her saberstaff off to flick her wrist out while lifting her arm and moving it towards her left side to attack with the lower blade of the saberstaff since she had seen Leontyne practicing the move while they warmed up before beginning to spar - brings her hands up while angling her saber to block the strike coming at her neck, says, "And when will we be leaving?" as she bats her Master's saber upwards and then brings her hands down while pivoting her wrists forward to swing her saber at Leontyne's shoulder.
Dodging the blow aimed at her shoulder by side-stepping, Leontyne reignites the upper half of her saberstaff and feints beginning to make a sweeping strike at Susi's neck with the upper blade that she shifts at the last second into an inward swing of the lower blade for her Padawan's hip, telling Susi, "Tomorrow morning," shutting her saberstaff off just before the strike lands.
Shutting her own lightsaber off, Susi bows to Leontyne and, demonstrating her well known and seemingly fathomless appetite, suggests, "Why don't we do the critique portion of our training in the dining hall?"
