Jared Flint, a 30 something Jedi Knight moved from his position sitting cross legged on the training room floor to stand up to his full 6 foot height as a young man enters. He smiled to the young man as he studies him for a moment with his brown eyes. It wasn't often that they had initiates to the temple in their early adulthood as this young man was, but it wasn't completely unheard of either. The Jedi order as a whole had become a lot more accepting of anyone who wished to learn and in his opinion that was a very good thing. His blue robes were a little unusual for the generally green wearing Corellians and the traditional brown of the Jedi Order as a whole, but if one were to pay attention in the halls of the Corellian Jedi Academy they would see a smattering of blue among the green, although the reasoning wasn't obvious. The Knight takes a few steps forward and offers his rough but solid hand to the young man. I'm Jared Flint, it's nice to meet you. I hear you are interested in learning the Jedi arts? He leaves a slight questioning tone at the end of his sentence, he was pretty sure that was what he had been told, but you never knew if this was who he was supposed to be meeting, or if someone had just happened to walk into this particular training room. Well it wasn't likely to be the later case, but you never know.

Quill entered the room and saw the knight - weighing in at 175lbs and standing no taller than 5’8” - he was athletically built for a young man his age ( 15 years ).His eyes, a light hazelnut brown, full of both wonder and yet at the same time they seemed to come across as cold and calculating. His hair, was what stood out the most... spiked, unkempt and as ivory and white as a new blanket of snow. Quill stood in the training room, side satchel in hand... containing the only things that he owned since he departed from Qiilura.
His attire was modest and simple. A grey longed-sleeved shirt, ’complemented with a pair of black pants. His shoes, almost appearing more like flats were black; with white rubber soles. Finally, draped over his form was a tattered red petticoat - which was clearly bigger than he was as he walked towards the knight whom had held his hand out. Quill shook it, not wanting to be rude and just above a whisper spoke.
“Good day Jared... my name is Quill.”
He paused as he felt the firm hand shake end, taking in Jared’s features and looking over the minuet details about him. He spoke again after a long pause, showing almost a caution as he spoke.
“My mother spoke often of this place - after her death, I felt it necessary to come here, but not just for her but to better my self and to learn about Ashla and her will, to find my place in the force; but I’ve found it to be a challenge, as it seems there has been no one to take me on, but - I dare not complain as I have yet to access he Archives and meditate on teachings myself.”
Quill spoke not just as some arrogant teenager, but as a thoughtful young man whom already saw the bond, the... flow of the light side and wanted to clearly embrace it better and become a benefit for thise in need by bettering himself. Furthermore, the mention of Ashla, the older term for the light, would be odd, but would show that the woman - his mother had defiantly tried to point him towards the right way.

Jared took stock of the young man as he spoke, listening politely to the young man he quickly realizes that Quill had likely been through some tough things in his life, including apparetnlythe death of his mother. Filing the information away he smiles slightly as the young man uses the term Ashla to speak of the force. While it is a somewhat outdated term Master Roma, on of Corellia's greatest Masters has long been known to think of the force in the same way and Jared can't help but smile a little when he hears it from this young man. After a few moments of silence Jared turns his kind kind brown eyes to meet the gaze of the initiate before gesturing with his right hand and reaching out to the force. A small sports bag in Corellian Green floats it's way across the room toward Quill as Jared begins speaking again.
"In here you will find a couple sets of robes that should be close to your size, a training lightstaber, and probably most importantly a datapad. The datapad is full of all sorts of useful information including Classes that you could potentially attend, a room assignment, access codes for initiate areas of the archives, a map of the academy, and all sorts of other useful things. The robes are yours and if they do not fit there are instuctions on the datapad about how to get a better fitting set from the supply center. In addition while we encourage you to wear them as part of your training you are by no means required to wear them. It has long been our philosophy to help people learn in their own ways and in their own time rather than forcing every tradition we have onto every initiate. In addition we believe in masters finding apprentices on their own as well. You will not have a master assigned to you, but the knights and masters of the academy looking for an apprentice will be watching your progress over the next few weeks closely, even if they don't seem to me. During that time however I will be your guide as needed, helping you as much or as little as you desire both in training and in integrating with the academy as a whole."
He takes a few moments of silence again before speaking, letting that sudden barrage of information settle on the young man before speaking again.
"Do you have any questions for me now?"

Quill listened intently to Jared as he spoke, the whole time his concentration never faltering from him as he explained about the selection process and all the benefits now that he’d finally have now having access to the Academy as a Padawan - some progress had been made... but it was still slightly discouraging to Quill not that his calm demeanor however would give this feeling off.
He felt the tremor in the force as the bag floated over and he gently grabbed it from the air - having always been one that was sensitive to the minuet changes In Ashla’s presence... and in this temple, he knew she was here, he felt it. Quill, smiling slightly in thanks to Jared - but chuckling just slightly to himself knowing he was not required to wear he robes... as the clothing he had on was comfortable and appealed more to young Quill than then green robes.
Losing himself in thought just slightly, Quill looked at Jared as he asked the question, leaving an open invitation for furthered questions for him to ask. “ I understand that there is nothing I can do to quicken the process to having a Master - but is there anything I can do to...” Quill taking a moment to pause and think about how he wanted to word the following statement. “ show my desire to be deserving of a Master?” Quill shifted his stance slightly, as he finished his question - the desire, the yearning for growth all showed from Quill as he asked the question to Jared, hopeful that he would receive a answer or even so much as a hint or tip that would help him to achieving his desire of learning from his very own teacher.

Jared couldn't help but smile slightly at Quill. His eagerness to learn was plain, both in his words as he asks and in the subtle readings the force radiated from him. He was certainly ready to learn. Jared moves his right hand to his clean shaven chin for a moment as he seriously considers the young man's question and the best way to respond.
Well as you already mentioned there is no way to truly speed up the process, but you have some advantages and disadvantages that you should be aware of. You're older than many of our initiates are when they start with us so in some ways you'll be behind. However, you're also prime age for beginning an apprenticeship which will have you looked at more seriously than many new members of the Academy. The truest advice I can give you is that if you show you are both willing to and capable of learning I'm sure that someone will chose to be your Master in no time. While you wait however the Academy does boast an impressive array of instructors to give you the opportunity to display your willingness to learn and keep you moving forward on the Jedi path. .

In an adjacent training room, a Kel'dor battle instructor strolls in with a pairing of sparring blades; circling the room, taking stock of space and everything that resides within. After a minute or so, he sits cross-legged in the middle of the room. Straight backed, with the blades resting in his lap, he meditates in the middle of the room and awaits for the student Deputy Isra Bel had assigned to him yesterday. . .

Throughout the remainder of the day and night the day before, Kahn had been meditating and focusing on his combat skills in his room. He had been training hard over the past five years. Each time a master came and either chose someone else or none at all, it caused Kahn to focus more. The times had grown darker with the war with the First Order. Not being an apprentice, he hadn't gained the first hand experience in combat, but he had worked to make his training harder. He wanted to be ready should he be needed to fight. But deep down, perhaps there was something more to that focus, a desire to prove himself to the masters of his dedication. Maybe that time was finally coming around. But it was clear it wouldn't be as simple as just being accepted. He had to prove himself and prepare with what the teachers had for him.
Making his way into the designated training area, Kahn noticed the Kel'dor meditating in the center of the room. He moved to him and sat before Shri Yari, waiting patiently for the Battlemaster to speak.

The Battlemaster returns his focus to the present, though his eyes hidden behind the rebreather afixed to his face, Shri Yarl addresses the learner that now sits in front of him; his voice as deep and thunderous as the storms of Dorin. "Learner Kahn. Welcome to your capstone lesson in the martial arts. As a jedi in the darkest of times, you must be prepared to defend the Light."
Yarl rises and offers one of the sabers to Kahn and braces his own saber with both hands; pointing the tip out and forward in an aggressive stance, his feet shoulder width apart. "Mandalorians, as you well know, are fierce warriors who see strength as an invitation for challenge. They see the Jedi, therefore, as natural rivals in the balance of the universe. They are courageous and honorable in combat, but see the assistance of the Living Force as as an unfair advantage and, as such, will not hesitate to marshal every sort of tool level the playing field. It was not too long ago in history when this very academy, and Jedi Order as a whole, found itself at war with the Mandalorians; and they remain a constant threat. Now, we will see how well prepared you are to defend against such a threat." With that, he waits just a moment before lunging forward with a diagonal thrust swinging downward towards Kahn's left shoulder. . .

Kahn position on the floor sharpens as he sits straight upon being addressed. He wanted to do all he could to address the fact of his dedication, his focus, and attentiveness. Listening to the words spoken to him, he gave a simple nod as the saber was handed to him. He took it, rising with the Battlemaster. he didn't question why he didn't use his own lightsaber instead, having made one himself a year or so ago. He might not have been an apprentice, but he sought permission to construct his lightsaber so that he had a weapon should he need to wield it at any moment.
Shri continued one, addressing the Mandalorians as the big threat and challenge of the Jedi. It was a curious thought as to why they wee mentioned over the Sith considering they were the ones they fought against most often. He, however, did not question the master as he went on, seeing a reason for their mention. He guessed that when it came to combat, the Mandalorians were the bigger threat and the bigger challenge in a conflict.
Kahn stood with the blade held out in front of him, both hands on the blade. It gave him easy control as he moved it up to block the oncoming attack. He held it there for but a moment before pushing it back and making a slash straight across the Kel'dor's waist. He had trained in the Shii Cho form, becoming skilled in its form. But it was the only form he actually knew. While he had touched upon movements of the other forms, he hadn't put any training into them as he had yet to understand himself and how he'd fight. Would he attack with strength and directness? Or would he turn to grace or acrobatic maneuvers? Maybe he'd be the defensive type or be a balanced blend of them all. he hoped with the training to come, he'd come to better understand himself in that regard.

Kahn easily parried the thrust easily with a rudimentary block and a slash to the Yarl's waist. The Kel'dor twisted the blade toward to meet the slash before it could pass between the two duelists, and brought his front boot to bear in a powerful standing front kick to Kahn's chest. .

Kahn attempted to press in harder as their blades met, hoping to over power the battle master. However, he had little chance to add much to it as the Kel’dor kicked at his chest. Letting his arms give on their strength, he was able to move his blade past Yarl’s in order to get his arms in front of him to absorb some of the impact.
While accomplishing their task, the strength and firm foundation of the master was more than enough to cause Kahn to stumble back. Though he was able to retain his balance and kept from falling over, but had to take a few steps back and dropped almost fully to a knee. Quickly, he was back to his feet, preparing for the oncoming attack. Shri had successfully put Kahn on the defensive and undoubted wasn’t going to just stand back and wait for the student to get his bearings.

As the force of the kick forces Kahn backward, requiring a moment for the student to recover-- the Kel'dor does a wide pivot widening the distance just a bit; a clawed hand reaches to the opposite wrist gauntlet as a long cable shoots out heading straight towards Kahn's shins in an effort to wrap up one or both of his legs. . .

As Kahn stood to his feet, what he expected to come wasn't what happened. Indeed, the master was staying on him, but he thought the Kel'dor would have been on top of him, making another attack. Instead, he was further back, launching a cable towards his feet. The sudden unknown caused Kahn to step back on his left foot, but allowed the cable to wrap around his right. Still in the process of backing up, the resistance the cable gave sent Kahn falling to the ground.
So close was he to using the Force to aid him, but pushed it aside. This was a test of physical prowess and skill. He needed to be capable of fending off an enemy without using the Force when possible. There was no telling if his opponent could be capable of cutting of his ability to wield it. Sitting up, he made a move, attempting to get him back on the offensive, or at least get them back on a level playing field. Grabbing the cable with both hands, he pulled no only with his hands, but pulled and twisted his whole body to use as much of his strength as he could. In this he hoped to bring Shri of balance while loosening the tautness of the cable to undo it and move back to his feet.

The Battlemaster felt the Force surging in the student-- but only for just a moment; the Kel'dor shook his head just briefly a bit disappointed. .until he felt a sharp tug in his wrist pulling him towards the ground.
Quickly, Shri Yarl found himself plummeting face first into the training mat. The Kel'dor instinctively tucks his head into a tight role, and reaches to disengage the the cable from his wrist, freeing the bond between the two duelists. He finds himself in a low athletic stance, rising from a knee. He is just within a few feet of the student who still lies on the floor. The Battlemaster brings both hands to bear on the practice saber, and with a strong overhand sweep brings it crashing down aiming broadly for Kahn's chest. . .

The time Shri spent rolling and regaining himself, despite how little time gained, was enough for Kahn to undo the cable around his foot and face the coming attack. Already the battle master was upon him, bringing down a powerful attack, one that would have broken his defenses, he was sure. To either gain a win or keep from being held down on the defensive, he had to take a different approach.
Just before the Kel'dor's practice saber met its target, rolled over to his right a bit. He didn't follow through, stopping just before lying face first on the ground. Once the sound of the impact with the ground, Kahn rolled back slightly, bringing his left arm over to cover the master's arms while bringing up the training saber in his right hand to meet the left arm of Shri. He'd have no true strength to hold the master at bay with his left arm, but hoped it enough to delay any action he might take.

The student does what he can to encumber the Kel'dor's arms with his own. The battlemaster stood up from his low stance and dropped his guard to allow Kahn's arm to fall back down. Shri Yarl turned and strolled back. "Get up....The Mandalorians believe we are natural enemy and a threat because they think it cheating when we operate in one with the Force; we do what we can to surrender to its will. They are their own will. Try again." With a small flourish of his own saber, he is back in his square strong stance with both clawed hands on the hilt pointed out front.

With little effort, the battle master slipped out of his pathetic attempt to hold the Kel’dor down. Swiftly, his arms dropped and he stepped back out the path of his blade. Yet, instead of going in for another attack, the master backed away, taking the time to open Kahn’s mind.
Standing to his feet, he listened to the words spoken to him. It was clear enough that he was meant to utilize the Force, not try to move without it. A misunderstanding on his part. At first, he had interpreted the words of the Mandolorians as needing to focus solely on his combat without the Force and his skill alone. But now he saw what was really meant to be learned.
Taking a breath, he stood straight again, blade up with both hands on the hilt. He let the Force flow within him like a calm river. He stood still for a few moments before moving in quickly with an over head strike, coming straight down on the Kel’dor.

The battlemaster feels the Force flowing more freely through Kahn. If anyone could see his slit of a mouth behind this breather mask, they would see a slight smile of approval. As Kahn's saber comes down, Shri Yarl brings up his own blade with clawed hands to meet it high, exposing both the combatant's mid section; he takes the opportunity to send another forward kick to the chest. . .

With the Force flowing through, Kahn was better in feeling an anticipating the Kel'dor's kick. It didn't help that is was basically a repeat to the start of the fight. Pulling back his blade slightly, he moved to his right, letting the kick pass by him on the left with a few millimeters to spare. But Kahn wasn't done. Keeping his mind focused on his attack, he let go of the saber with his left hand as he brought it around to slash straight at Shri's left side.

The Kel'dor's kick meets nothing but air as the student catches on to the natural staccatto of Mandalorian combat. He plants his right foot as it lands and quickly pivots to catch the blade with his own; he quickly releases his left hand to send a stiff cross jab to Kahn's face.
