There was little time to react, despite letting the Force guide him and speak to him of incoming attacks. He leaned back, tilting to his right as he did. It effectively broke the hold between the sabers as he stumbled a bit. A few feet was what it took to finally balance himself and get his footing. He gripped the hilt with both hands and brought it up to his chest before moving in, leaping straight forward in a thrust. However, as the blade moved in, his right foot caught the ground, letting him to jump and spin into the air, bring them saber down in a falling leaf technique. He hoped the deceptive act would grant him an advantage.

The clawed right cross does not find purchase as the student acuity with the Force deepens, and is back on the battlemaster with vigor as he brings his blade down a cross feint. The expert instructor already has his blade up to catch it; but the strength that it was brought forced the instructor to catch himself with his back foot. He holds the block for just a moment before pushing out and disengaging with a flourish.
"Good. You are learning." The Kel'dor says with the deep baritone voice through the rebreather mask. Shri Yarl turns and strides towards the far corner of the training room towards a equipment locker; he opens it and places his practice saber inside and reaches in to reveal a blaster rifle. "The F-11D is the standard issue blaster rifle for the The First Order-- the natural evolution of the Galactic Empire. The rank and file of the stormtrooper elite believe that the Jedi are a myth. Propoganda of the Rebellion of old to shake the morale of their oppressors. Naturally, when they encounter us, they are not as accurate as they would be if they were calm and collected. So they when you see one in, say, an incursion on an occupied planet, or boarding an innocent diplomatic transports--they will most likely engage you like this..."
Before any other warning he brings the blaster up to his shoulder and begins squeezing blaster shots wildly in Kahn's direction; knowing, though, the power is set to low and the practice saber would be adequate enough to defend against bodily harm. Perhaps 8-10 rounds were squeezed off, and maybe 4-5 were accurate enough to be seen as a threat..

Kahn's arm moved back as the battle master pushed against him. He was about to press in for another attack when the Kel'dor disengaged his blade. Stopping, Kahn let his own saber rest at his side as he listened on to the next level of teachings. Pulling out a blaster rifle, Kahn could guess what was coming next. Already proving himself to be quick to test the student's reflexes and alertness, moments after he finished talking began to fire on Kahn without warning.
Already expecting what would happen, Kahn was already focused on the coming bolts. Though released in a more frantic barrage with up to ten shots fired repeatedly, this was no different than the training sessions they had with the younglings. No more than an advanced form of the basic training exercises. As the shots came, his saber came up, blocking the first three attacks with ease. It was in this third one that Kahn noticed his reach was a little farther than necessary, meaning the bolt would have passed him even if he never moved. This threw out his rhythm as he had to physically dodge two bolts before being able to deflect the shots again. He defected another two shots, leaned to avoid another, then deflected another, ultimately choosing the wrong one to block as the last shot hit his right shoulder.
He brought his left hand up to his shoulder. It hurt and a slight burn mark was there, but otherwise, he'd be fine. Where it took a moment to grasp where the first bit of training was going, this was easily understood. Quick, frantic, and unaccurate shots meant he needed to keep his focus on the fired shots and know what needed to be avoided versus what could be ignored.
Looking back to Shri, Kahn spoke, still on guard for another barrage. "The point is to keep focused and block the proper shots to keep moving forward. Otherwise, you over extend yourself on a shot that would have easily missed and leave yourself open for the more threatening one."

"Good. You see you over extended yourself; in this instance a more conservative stance would do nicely. You know your lightsaber forms, drop into Form III: Soresu, to conserve your energy and bide your time to find your opening. . .
. . .Especially since there is a High Probability it is VERY UNLIKELY you will be engaged by a LONE First Order Trooper. Remember, the Force is our ally.." With that, the Kel'dor released a clawed hand from the blaster rifle and reached out straight in front of him. Using the Force, he depressed the activation switches on 4 practice droids that lined the walls on each side of supply locker. Their servos whirl as they step into a layered flanking position, 2 in the middle forward; 1 on each side and a pace behind those in the middle. Once they were in place, they all began to fire in the same patterns as the Battlemaster demonstrated. The semi-repeater rifles continue to squeeze shots out as the droids pace forward, slowly, methodically; the flanking droids step out wider from the formation so the angles of attack become greater with every pace forward. . .

Kahn took a breath as he focused himself, holding his saber with both hands in front of him. As the droids took their position, he let his mind settle into what he knew of Soresu. It was an effectively defensive form that, as the battlemaster stated, conserved energy. Before long, the onslaught of blaster fire began to come down upon him. He let the Force flow through him, guiding his actions and his instincts. At the start, he his movements were spaced in one quick flow before stopping, usually only blocking a single bolt, though occasionally, his path intercepted two bolts. He didn't move from his spot, letting the droids move closer and widen their range around them. He wanted to build this state of mind, before working to finish this exercise.
As the droids began to widen, the fluid, quick movements became more frequent, making him have to stay on the move with his blocks. With more directions from where the blasters shots came from, he had a larger area to cover. With his level of skill, it was certainly becoming harder to defend himself without having to move and dodge at the same time. As his movements began to get more sloppy, he knew it was time to finish things. Directing his focus to the shots, he worked to redirect the bolts back at his targets rather than let them go anywhere. He brought the first one down within the first shot, though it took two to three shots each to finally hit each of the others as he worked to understand the angle in which he needed to effectively deflect the attacks.

As the droids began surrounding Kahn, the battlemaster observed, he took a lot of focus and was systemic in dispatching the training droids; batting the laser bolts back into their bodies-- a surge of electricity shooting across each one to indicate a successful hit before dropping their defenses and deactivating.
Good. The thunderously deep voice of the Kel'dor exclaims. Stretching a clawed hand out to press the reset mechanism on the droids to command them to retreat and head back to their initial position along the walls of the training room. Once they are returned to their resting station, the Kel'dor unclips and ignites his blue lightsaber.
The Sith. Coming in many forms, but natural enemies of the Will of the Force. The Jedi Council, with all of its faults, seeks to serve the balance of the Force; the Sith only seek to serve themselves-- often at the suffering of others. They would argue the Force is a tool for power, and should be harnessed toward that end; I would assert, how many beings have you met that have sought power for altruism?
The Battlemaster continues past the rhetorical question. In order for a sith to finish their rites in the order, they must first seek out a jedi and strike them down. And not swiftly, or honorably. But the sith must cause so much anguish in the jedi, that the kyber crystal that is bonded with bleeds red, turning the fallen jedi's blade crimson into the sith's classic weapon.
A sith is not rational; they are not honorable like the Mandalorians; they are not systemic like Imperials; they are merciless-- and as such will show you no mercy. You must learn to steel your mind as well be prepared with your body-- for they will exploit everything they know in order to make you suffer!
The Kel'dor calls apon the Force to jump into a somersault leap with an overhead slash straight down towards Kahn's head.
The real test of the student's martial prowess has begun.

As the droids deactivated from each hit, Kahn let out a breath. He contemplated powering down his saber, but he waited. And it was good that he did so, seeing that his instructor had just activated his.
Listening to the words spoken, he let the reality of what the Sith were settle in his mind. One thing that did strike him odd was that the master spoke of the Jedi Council having faults. He never would have thought a Jedi speaking as such against the Council. But the thought was quickly removed from his mind as the knowledge continued to settle in his mind. For a moment, his head dropped as he seemed to zone out. His lips moved faintly as if trying mouth something that was right on at the edge of memory.
Suddenly, the last bit of the Kel'dor's words resonated enough to snap him back to reality as he looked up to see the master flipping over him, bringing his saber down on top of him. Lifting his saber, he met the master's blade holding back the greater strength for a moment until stepping slight to his right. He let his blade give to let the Kel'dor fall forward a bit bit as Kahn spun the blade around him, staying as close as it could to his body to cut down on the time it would take to make his own strike. The small radius of the blade movement, the lack of a spin and moving to a slight step, Kahn brought his saber around to strike the master across the shoulder blades.

The student aptly brings his guard up overhead and catching the Kel'dor as he brings his own stronger strike down. Before Battlemaster Yarl can make another strike, Kahn slips and disengages, forcing Shri forward. Instead of planting himself and regaining his balance, the Kel'dor converted his energy into a front roll-- allowing the younger jedi's strike to pass harmlessly above him.
Coming out of the roll, Yarl plants himself upward on a knee, and spins around to send a powerful Force Push upward with a clawed hand, aimed at khan's having his blade in a one-handed weak guard out in front of him. . .

As the Kel'dor rolled forward, it was easy to see, just as it was to feel, that his blade found no purchase. But his position was right and it seemed to him he held a slight advantage because of it. Not wasting a moment, he stepped forward, covering the few needed steps to put him back on top of the battle master, his blade coming around to meet his opponent's arm.
The plan seemed solid and in any other case, would have been more than enough to bring a fight to a close in one form or another. No the approached wasn't flawed, but it brought back the small thought that most likely evaded most Force-sensitives on the battlefield: the power of the Force could be utilized at any time and in nearly an instant. Kahn was not but a few inches away from landing his strike when the Force Push came. Not in a stance to properly defend, along with his sudden lapse of thought on the master's use of the Force, Kahn was sent back, flying a good few feet before falling to the ground and sliding across it. A few more feet went by before he could recover enough to roll back on to his feet.
His push was close enough to send him flying, though it seemed to be more directed at his hands, which was enough to loosen his grip on his saber. Yet, it did not land far away and Kahn had quickly gained his bearings enough to be ready to strike back. If the battle master was attacking in a way similar to the Sith in order to show him how they fought, he expected the Kel'dor to be upon him quickly. As such, he used the Force, reaching out to his saber and throw it at the master, causing it to spin as a disc. He didn't expect a hit, but would use it to reestablish himself in the spar.

As the Force Push found purchase, the kel'dor rose to his feet and began to dash towards the student-- just as the student sends his lightsaber blade slicing through the air towards the battlemaster. Instinctually, Yarl leaps forward in a corkscrew somersault over the blade-- and performs and an aerial heel kicked aimed toward the padawan's chin . .

As the lightsaber flew towards the master, Kahn's expectations were met. But it was what he needed to make his own move. As the Kel'dor went to deliver his kick, Kahn jumped to his right, tucking himself so that he could roll and bring himself back up to his feet. reaching out his hand, he summoned his lightsaber back to his hand, hoping he had given himself enough time to get back on the offensive.

The heel kick fails to make purchase, the kel'dor battlemaster deftly lands on his feet and flourishes his own lightsaber around, preparing to allow the student to bring his inevitable attack. . .

Kahn gazed upon the Kel'dor for a moment, surprised he didn't jump straight into the next attack. But it gave him a chance to gather his thoughts and figure out what to do. He had to think differently than normal. The master's skill, not to mention the idea of fighting with some semblance of a Sith, he had to change his tactics. Lowering his head, he had an idea. He moved in, slowly at first, before taking off into a run. He gripped his saber with both hands and brought it to his left side to deliver a powerful strike. But as he did, his left hand slipped off the hilt and settled out in front of the lightsaber, palm open towards the master. As the strike came, he released a small Force Push at Shri Yari, just enough to disrupt his balance and break his defense to leave him open for a strike.

The padawan builds to a sprint, telegraphing a left diagonal slash, in instinct, the kel'dor raise his own blade to meet it-- until he felt it. A small push from Kahn's off hand he quickly released caused the battlemaster to falter in his stance, he barely brought his blade up in time time meet the students-- but in that instance, the instructor's torso was left wide open for the student to take a follow up shot.

Kahn's plan worked well for while their blades met, the slight push was enough to disrupt the master's defense. Using the opening, he pushed up with his blade, as he turned to his right and kicked out at the Kel'dor's gut with his left foot. Provided the kick made impact and forced the battlemaster back, Kahn would come down on his foot and unleashed a stronger Force Push to send him flying back a little more, hopefully to fall back followed by throwing his lightsaber at the master like a spear, purposely throwing it to move just passed him. He might have been needing to fight the master as if he was a Sith, but he wouldn't risk hitting him with an attack that could easily kill if it did, in fact, make impact.

The kel'dor feels a swift kick to his torso, sending a sharp pitch through his breath mask, staggering him back a step or two before finding his footing quickly. Before he could set his stance, the student followed up with a Force Push sending the Battlemaster back even farther on his heels. Kahn then launches his lightsaber towards the instructor; at that distance would have been lethal...had the teacher not been skilled and the student obviously careful as the blade was angled slightly wide and the teacher side pivoted so that the blade would pass swiftly by.
The Kel'dor stands upright, heels together at attention facing the student. One clawed-hand launched behind him, calling the sailing lightsaber to his palm. Flourishing both blades in a cross guard in front of himself, and flourishing outwards once more in a traditional Ataru salute-- then deactivates them swiftly.
Good. The Kel'dor thunders in the rich baritone voice hidden behind the mask. You show great promise, the ability to adapt to the situation will be crucial in the basis of survival. And where you are going, you will need to be able to think on (and off) your feet. The kel'dor tosses the hilt of Kahn's blade in a high arc; not necessarily straight at him, but it has enough linger time in the air should the student reach out. Master Son'tir has very little patience for the ill-prepared. Shri Yarl clasp the hilt back on his belt, weaving his clawed hands behind his back, at ease. This concludes today's assessment. Have you any more questions?

Kahn lifted his hand to catch the hilt as the Battlemaster threw it back to him. As he replaced the hilt on his belt, he listened as the master he'd become an apprentice to was mentioned and what he sought from a pupil. No wonder he was tested the way he was. Taking a breath, he shook his head when asked if there were any more questions to be asked. "I have no questions, master."

=Raja=It had been a whirlwind few hours for the boy, but now he was well and properly enrolled as a student of the academy. The process had included paperwork (which Master Frantz had completed for him, and locked away somewhere, not allowing the academy's administrator to see it, much to her confusion, and Raja's amusement). Next, he had been assigned a room in the student dormitory: Room 227. Arriving there to deposit his bag, he had been issued several pairs of customary green Jedi robes, and compelled to change into them. They were surprisingly smooth and light, not at all like the coarse, heavy Outer Rim fabric to which he was accustomed. The worst had come next: a haircut, his first in years, which reduced his hair to a more civilized shoulder length. But then, finally, the famished youngster had been set free to refresh himself in the cafeteria, and then return to his room for a time to rest, and meditate on all that he had just experienced. An hour later, rested, refreshed, and with his mind no longer spinning from the shock of finally being on Corellia, at the legendary Corellian Academy and origin of his family, he traced his way through the halls and presented himself for an initial assessment of his skills. "... and then the second left." The blond ten-year-old muttered softly, as he triggered the corresponding door, and stepped into a medium-sized training room.

Waiting for the academy's newest entrant was a man in his early 40s, with bright green eyes and a pleasant smile. Looking him over quickly Jared gestured to the empty space in front of him for the boy to stand as he addressed him, his voice friendly. Hello Raja, I'm Jared Flint, an instructor here at the academy. I've been told that you've had some training on your own before arriving here and I've been asked to asses what you know so that we can better assist your studies. The Jedi slid down to the floor of the training room, crossing his legs together as he gestured for the boy to take a seat in the empty space across from him. So why don't you start with letting me know a little about yourself and what you've been taught and then I'll go through some basic tests with you.

=Raja= For a brief moment, Raja's eyes traced the entire training room, up, down, left, and right, taking in his new surroundings and mentally comparing them to the somewhat dated holos of the academy that his mentor had shown him. Then he stepped forward into the spot indicated by the green-eyed instructor, and bowed slightly. "Thank you, Master Flint." Imitating the older Jedi, he sank slowly to the floor and crossed his legs, then closed his eyes for a moment. There was a flicker of emotion, as if Raja was reliving one of his dearest memories, but he pushed it away again. Taking a deep breath, he recited in a low voice.
"Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy. Jedi use their powers to defend and to protect. Jedi respect all life, in any form. Jedi serve others for the good of the galaxy. Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training."
Opening his eyes, he looked at Flint, visualizing his mind and trying to form a connection.
Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force.
He paused, and smiled slightly, looking expectantly at the Master. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he closed his eyes again, and began to breath deeply, slowing the rate of his breathing with each breath. He narrowed his focus, breaking the shaky connection he had formed with the instructor and concentrating inward, cutting of his outward senses until he could hear his own heart beating. Then, he stretched his arms out like wings, palms down. Once he had formed a perfect letter trill, he lifted his left leg, and took a slight hop, balancing all off his weigh on his right leg, and began to lift himself upward. He paused for a moment, balancing his weight on his right leg.
I can do more, he thought. Then, abruptly, he spun, flipping sidewards to his right, into a handstand, which he help for a brief moment. His elbows wobbled. Not again. No, no no. Then, his eyes flew open as his concentration slipped, and he crashed to the springy floor of the training room, landing in a heap, and bounced once.
Raja looked up at Master Flint, his face reddening. "S-sorry."
