Johun's ears perked up at the mention of Master Roma. A namesake for the great Serrin Roma. Interesting. Johun stood and casually walked toward the group. He bowed slightly at them and introduced himself.
Knight Johun Starfield. I couldn't help but hear your mention of Master Roma. I knew her for many years. She was integral into my training to become a Jedi knight.

*Roma's excitement came back in full force as the man introduced himself and mentioned his connection to Master Roma. She again bounced on her heels, eyes widened with interest.* "Really?"
*Behind her, her mother sighed softly and smiled at her peers.* "So much for food and rest."

Johun smiled.
Yes. We trained and defended this academy several times together.

The mountain of a man always found clearing his head easy, class mates jokes that was cause he wasn't really thinking of anything to clear. He did not like just sitting still though. He cook his meditation times doing stretches. The gardens were a good place for this. They were quite, but the Force had a flow all around it.

*Laney snickered quietly at Morgan being addressed as "young one." Morgan flashed her a playful pout; seemed that even in adulthood her small stature couldn't escape being mistaken for younger. She then smiled sadly at Johun, replying,* "Wish I could have known her as well. We met at a gathering when I was much younger and she immediately felt like an old friend..." *She sighed.*

She definitely had that quality about her.
Johun smirked to himself, thinking about Serrin.
What brings you two to Corellia? May I be of assistance in any way?

*Morgan also smiled to herself, reminiscing about the kind Twi'lek Master. When asked what the "two" of them to Corellia, Morgan glanced back at Laney, Koda, and Niam, smirked, and replied,* "Oh, just a 'cultural exchange' trip. Mostly so Roma here can see the home of her eponym." *She squeezed Roma's shoulders and smiled down at her, Roma looking back up at her and grinning.*

Johun nodded.
Well, I hope you enjoy the visit. This is my home planet. I have traveled many places in this galaxy, but I always find Corellia the most beautiful. Please let me know if I can assist in anyway.

Johun bowed slightly to the two.
I must be off, but I hope to see you all again.
Johun then exited the garden.

As she and Johun enter the meditation gardens, Brielle looks around to take in their surroundings, finding that the gardens are aptly named as the space and its landscaping are serene and tranquil, making them conducive to the contemplation, relaxation or, naturally, meditation that they were clearly designed with in mind.
Not wanting to seem impatient, Brielle contents herself with enjoying the silence and beauty of their surroundings as Knight Starfield leads the way, waiting for him reveal the reasons they have come here in his own time.

Johun took in a deep breath and closed his eyes, hands clasped in the small of his back. Slowing exhaling, he centered himself into the Force.
Relax Brielle. Feel the world around you. Fell its connections. Feel the Force.

Brielle nods when Johun gives her his instruction. After taking the small rucksack hanging off her right shoulder and setting it at her feet, Brielle mirrors Knight Starfield's posture, clasping her hands behind her back and closing her eyes as she begins to focus on the in and out of her breath as a way to clear her mind so that she can fully focus on feeling the Force around and within her.
The connection between her and Johun is the easiest to sense, their proximity and Force sensitivities making it almost automatic, and to Brielle it feels like the strand of a web that, as her focus deepens and she becomes more aware of the living things in the gardens sending out their own strands to form connections with her and Johun, grows ever wider, soon encompassing the academy so that Brielle can feel the weaving interconnections between her, Johun, the students and instructors forming. As the number of connections increases, the web expanding, Brielle can feel, like the trembling of the strands of a web as it is moved upon, little flashes of emotions from those comprising the web; can feel the calm emanating from Johun, the concentration of a padawan on the lesson of their Master, the bustling purposeful focus of a Jedi preparing to embark on an assignment.
Unconsciously scratching the left side of her nose, over the seam beneath which her one of her proboscises lays hidden, when she feels something deep within her stirring in response to the proximity of so many beings so strong in the Force, something she has learned to suppress over the years spent with her Force sensitive uncle, Brielle shakes her head, hands clasping behind her back more tightly now, to refocus on the strands of the Force creating the web of connections between those within and around the academy rather than on the disquieting stirring it incites within some instinctive part of her she would deny the chance to grow stronger.

Johun continues to exude a calmness around himself. He of course senses Brielle's distraction, letting her refocus herself.
The Force connects all living things. Everything we do affects those connections. Sometimes even unforeseen and unexpected consequences,

Brielle considers what Johun says before responding, her eyes remaining closed as she holds on to her focused awareness of the interwoven strands of the Force she can sense around them. Brielle understands that even something as simple and seemingly passive as striving to become aware of the connections in the Force surrounding them has an effect within the Force; placing one's hand upon the web created by the individual threads to grasp for a sense of them, no matter how gently, creates vibrations just as the actions of others upon it do, and could be sensed in turn. More direct actions, calling the Force to oneself in order to use it, one's emotions as they connect with the Force, all create vibrations of varying intensity that would have an effect on the overall web of connections. Continuing along her train of thought, Brielle thinks of how the decisions one makes can influence their own connection to Force in unanticipated ways, as well as impacting that of others. Her decision to come here to Corellia, for instance, has not only paved the way for her to deepen her understanding of the Force and strengthen her connection to it in ways she can only speculate about now, but has also opened opportunities for her decision to affect others as well; whatever relationships and interactions she has here have the possibility to have unknown affects on her and those around her, such as Knight Starfield, who cannot fully know as yet how his decision to teach her will affect them both.
Wanting to be sure that she is following Johun's lesson along the intended path rather than one she has wandered off on mistakenly, Brielle opens her mind to him so that he can gain a sense of where his lesson has led her thusfar, and then says, "I think I understand what you mean, Knight Starfield. As all living things are connected, any action one takes has an effect on the whole. Action and reaction, only the reaction may not always be the one intended, and often ripples outward further and in unanticipated ways. And since all are connected, and making actions of their own that send their own ripples outward, some of those ripples could, and often do, intersect and have unpredictable consequences. Her tone more excited as her attempt to explain her meaning has led her to an unanticipated connection, Brielle says, Everything is in flux, always, because of how the connections between living things are always shifting in response to the things being done. Opening one of her eyes to see if she can gauge from Johun's expression whether or not she has reached the understanding he had intended her to reach, Brielle asks tentatively, Or have I wandered too far afield of what you intended to convey?"

Johun chuckles to himself at her last question.
No you are where you need to be.
Getting a little more serious, Johun continues,
Because of all of these connections, and how interwoven everything is to each other. All life is precious. A Jedi only kills in defense, and only when absolutely necessary.

After Johun has recited the tenet about how Jedi do not kill unless in defense and given no other option but to do so, Brielle ponders the reasons Knight Starfield has begun his tutelage with a review of basic parts of the Jedi philosphy. It could be, Brielle supposes, to test her assertion that she has already learned the Code and has studied its precepts, or to test her understanding of them given that the mere ability to state something one has memorized does not equate with a true understanding of it. Recalling how Johun has already, by making her focus on the philosphy of the Jedi code concerning how all living things are connected, helped her deepen her understanding of that concept, Brielle smiles, believing that she has an idea of why they are reviewing the central ideas of what the Jedi believe: so that she really thinks about them and strengthens her understanding of them so that she can bear the philosophy of what it means to be a Jedi in mind at all times.
That the Jedi do not kill unless in defense, and only after attempting to disarm or disable, is, on the face of it, a simple enough lesson, but Johun's path towards it, by reminding her of the interconnectedness of all living things, prompts her to understand why the Jedi must adhere to such a philosophy, aside from the moral and ethical reasons. Since all living things are connected, and their actions all can potentially impact others in unpredictable ways, the death of any individual similarly impacts any connected with them, or that would ever be if they had not been killed, a Jedi needs to bear in mind how far out a death's ripples might expand, what suffering might result, and what unpredictable consequences could be circumvented if they instead find a non-lethal means of ending the conflict.
"Doesn't the imperative to disarm or disable a foe often put a Jedi at a disadvantage? It requires they focus on finding a non-lethal way to end a conflict while their enemy or enemies are able to simply do whatever they need in order to win. Isn't it easier. . . "
Brielle pauses, then nods as though to herself, realizing that taking the easy and fast way to achieve things is often a way to open oneself to the Dark Side. Were a Jedi not to strive to always be focused on ways to find an option other than to kill, they might let themselves give into aggression, or be less mindful of how all things are inerconnected.
"That's another reason the Jedi try to avoid fighting, or killing their foes if avoidance is not possible, isn't it? Not only because of the need to be mindful of the possible unanticipated consequences due to how everything is connected, but also because of how focusing on those things leaves less chance of succumbing to the temptation to give into the aggression or anger conflict involves by its very nature."

Johun opens his eyes, smiles and nods.
Indeed. I know that this seems pretty basic, and I assumed you may have already learned this from your previous training from your Uncle. I find though that we must remind ourselves often of the reasons we do things, to anchor us in those reasons. It is why I start every morning reciting the Jedi Code and reflecting on it. It is why every morning I run through a Soresu kata with my lightsaber, We must practice the simple things until they almost become automatic. We do this so that we don't need to think about them, allowing us to trust our training, and think about other things.

Brielle smiles back at Johun when he finishes speaking, his explanation of the value of always continuing to hone one's understanding of the Jedi code and its tenets in order to not only deepen one's comprehension of how it all fits together and informs all a Jedi does, but also so that bearing the knowledge in mind at all times becomes instinctual, making complete sense to her.
"I see. It's like the muscle memory that you develop by practicing a physical skill. Just by making me examine my understanding of the code and some of its tenets, you've already helped me see new ways that they all fit together. I will start reflecting on it daily, just like you, Knight Starfield, so that I continue deepening my understanding so that, as you said, I can learn to anchor myself in the reasons a Jedi lives out the code ."
