*Tom chuckled to himself when Jake "mistakenly" called him "sir." His penchant for politeness was quite endearing, though he wondered if the boy felt he were insulting Tom after he'd asked the boy not to treat him so "politely." Tom made his own plate as Jake finished up, then Tom laughed when the boy tripped over his own tongue again and blushed, looking timid. He patted the boy on the shoulder, smiling down at him.* Don't feel so bad, boy. You'll get used to it. Come. *He led the boy to where Asani was eating. Tom set his plate on the table, across from her, but didn't sit down yet, using one hand to gesture at the boy.* Good morning, Asani. I'd like you to meet young Jake Palmer Calmcacil, a little friend of mine, the son of one of my good friends. *Tom then gestured toward Asani while looking down at Jake.* Jake, this is Asani. She just arrived yesterday. *Perhaps Asani was right, and her name sounded feminine enough, but he subtly made Jake aware of her gender in case Tom wasn't the only one who couldn't tell a Kushiban's gender or whether culturally males tended to have more feminine-sounding names or most names were gender-neutral. Though he could possibly have also been overthinking it all... He spared a soft chuckle at his own expense.*

Asani had been busy eating and not really paying much attention to the comings and goings around the dining hall. That all changed however as she hears Tom's voice. Looking up from her meal, she sees him speaking to a young human boy. Lifting her ears a bit, she listens to their conversation out of curiosity. She finds it interesting that Tom seems to prefer being thought of as a friend rather than a superior, and thusly didn't feel anyone should be going around calling him 'Master' or 'Sir'. She decides she'll have to remember that, but is thankful to have met such a friendly and humble Jedi.
Her fur turns yellow as she hears them begin talking about joining her for breakfast, happy that she is getting to meet someone new, and this was the first time she'd ever met a human child, apart from seeing them when she was locked up by the slavers trying to sell her as a pet, days she'd rather not give too much thought these days. This prospect though brought an extra degree of curiosity and excitement verses meeting another adult. As the two of them come over toward where she is sitting, she turns toward them and stands on the seat of the chair, her bright green eyes mostly fixed on Jake. As Tom introduces Jake to her, and then her to Jake, she offers a wave of her right paw.
"Nice to meet you Jake. I... hope you don't mind me asking, but I have never really met a young human before. I'm curious, how old are you? I happen to be about twelve in standard years."

*As Jake approached the table, he took note of a small, furry creature he'd never seen before. It didn't occur to him yet that this was the pupil Tom had mentioned, even though he had declared that said pupil had only arrived yesterday. When it was clear that this creature was the pupil, as Tom was approaching their table, Jake was a little pleased inside, as his curiosity would get to be satisfied.
Tom introduced them to each other, starting with Jake, then the creature, who was named Asani. When she waved and greeted him, Jake gave a bow in return, though in the back of his mind he hoped she wasn't another one of those types that didn't care much for being bowed to.* Nice to meet you too. *He stood up straight and smiled, though frowned a little in curiosity when she said she'd never met a young human before. That has honestly a bit surprising, though he supposed it was feasible, depending on where she'd lived before now. She was only twelve years old, it seemed, but as for Jake's age... he blushed a small amount before he spoke.* Er, well, I'm really eight years old, but my twin sister and I are both really small for our age, so we look a couple years younger than eight... *Normally it wasn't really an embarrassing thought, but since Asani had never met a human child, he felt he was inaccurately representing the eight-year-old demographic due to his small size. Oh well, she'd probably meet other children anyway; she could get a better impression of one then. Er, not that he thought he was inadequate! He just didn't want her to think all eight-year-olds were small, was all.*

Asani wasn't so much much the sort that didn't like being bowed to, like Tom, it was more that no one had ever done so to her, so it surprises her slightly. But she supposes Jake is just being polite. As for his size, she replied happily about that.
"Well, that's fine I guess. I'm really little, so at least this way, we're a little closer to the same size. I'm already pretty much fully grown, so most people seem huge to me, and always will. It's nice to meet someone who doesn't tower over me like a tree." She says with a chuckle.
"But thank you for telling me anyway, could be a bit confusing later if I met another, normal size eight year old, and I'd be wondering why there was such a difference."
Since Tom hadn't told Jake what she was, and she was pretty sure he would have to be at least as curious of her as she was of him, she offers to fix that.
"Anyway, I'm a Kushiban, from a faraway planet named after my species. We don't have any real technology where I come from, so it's pretty much nothing but open wilderness and farms. Probably the most notable things about my species is that many are Force Sensitive, and our fur changes color in response to our current mood. Yellow for example, when of a similar shade to how my fur is now, means I'm happy."

*As the two spoke, Tom sat down and noted every detail of their conversation, particularly Asani's words, as the two spoke. She'd never met a human child before, which was interesting, especially if she was the apprentice of Master Roma, whom he knew to be leader of an Academy. Jake assured her that most kids his age were taller, and Asani revealed that she was already fully-grown. Tom was also particularly interested in the details of Kushibah, that it wasn't particularly technologically advanced, which was pretty interesting. And at least now he knew what one of the colors meant, but he'd deduced that one already.
Tom interjected, but only for a moment, as he reached forward to tap Jake on the shoulder.* Go ahead and sit down, son. And why don't you tell her a little bit about Felucia? You've seen the jungle more than I, I'm sure, since your sister likes to take you out there more often. *He smiled invitingly at Jake, letting the boy take the spotlight for now. Children needed to feel included and given tasks, even ones as small as telling someone about a planet; it made them feel important and built their confidence. And it was true; Tom had only seen a little of the wilderness, mostly during the hunt for Morgan, Michelle, and Annabelle when they were lost in the jungle on their first day here. Fortunately, that was in the past; ironic how Morgan now came and went as she pleased through the jungle...*

*Asani didn't seem to mind his size at all, and even seemed to reply cheerfully as she thought it was more a "blessing," since they would be close to the same size. She was, in fact, "pretty much fully-grown," according to her. Then she seemed grateful to meet someone who didn't "tower over her like a tree." Huh. Jake didn't think of it that way. He smiled, glad his small size was appreciated by someone. He also laughed when she thanked him for telling her about his small stature so she wouldn't be confused when she met much-taller eight-year-olds.
And then she told Jake about her species, Kushiban, and her homeworld, a world full of wilderness and farms. It actually sounded quite pleasant, and Jake almost wanted to see what it was like. And then she revealed that her fur changed color, and that yellow meant happy. Woah, that was neat. Jake found himself smiling again, both due to learning a new bit of trivia and because Asani seemed happy right now, which in turn made him feel a little happy as well.
Tom then invited him to sit down, and Jake, with a bit of embarrassment, noted that he was still standing. He sat down next to Tom and began to eat when Tom asked him to tell Asani a little bit about Felucia. He was not the kind of boy to accidentally talk while eating, so he finished his bite first before smiling.* Well, it's a pretty cool place. The entire place is one big jungle, sometimes there are trees, sometimes there're giant fungi like bulbs and mushrooms and stuff. My sister Morgan and I go out there a lot, but she... knows how to control animals and stuff, so she's safer out there and I don't like going out there without her or someone else, since it can be dangerous if you're not careful. Mostly we go to see stuff, like find new places, or just go swimming somewhere. We've even went and watched animals walk around and stuff. It's really neat! I bet she would like to meet you and show you sometime. *He consciously made the decision to avoid giving the whole "Morgan's mother is Felucia" spiel to Asani, since it would no doubt only confuse her and would probably be too much information for one who'd just arrived on the planet. Besides, he was sure he'd mess up the explanation somehow anyway.*

Asani goes back to finishing her breakfast as Jake sits down and begins to tell her about Felucia, and she remains standing on the seat of the chair so she could more easily see over to the other side where Jake and Tom are sitting. She nods and looks up at Jake again from her meal as he finishes talking about Felucia. "I was here before once, with Master Roma, who was training me then. We went out into the jungle for a while. It was very pretty, but yes, also dangerous. I was glad to not be alone, so we could keep an eye on each other and a lookout for danger. Back on Kushibah, the biggest threat we usually face are the Xinkra, three meter tall fierce predators, but they have one big weakness, being afraid of fire, so we can usually keep them away from our settlements by keeping a fire lit. Out in the jungle here though I'm sure there are many things that would be happy to make a meal out of any person wandering through. Going for a swim sounds fun though, I'd love to meet your sister and go with you the next time you go out into the Jungle, as long as it's alright with Tom." She says as she looks up at the man, guessing he likely wouldn't have a problem with it. As for Morgan's mother being the planet Felucia, that certainly would bring up a whole bunch of new questions as Asani would wonder how that was even possible if she was told that.

*Tom was again listening to every word Asani said closely in order to glean as much information as he could, though there wasn't much new this time, other than revealing that most Kushiban villages were kept protected by lighting a fire. The only thing that seemed to concern him was when she asked if it was alright if she could join Jake and Morgan in venturing out into the jungle at some time. Tom smiled.* Of course, I see no reason why you couldn't. You're at least familiar with the jungle's possible dangers, and Morgan is well-versed in them. You'll be fine.

*To Jake, all of this information was new, and he listened intently as Asani told him about the xinkra and their dislike of fire being used as a method of protecting their village. Jake wasn't sure whether or not he should find them horrifying; they sounded large and the Kushibans apparently were their prey, but there were larger predators on Felucia... including rancors. Jake was glad he'd never run into one, though he knew many of his family and Tom himself had a run-in with one during their first visit here, and Morgan had once had to outsmart and outrun one.
Funnily enough, Asani then mentioned that there probably were other predators that "would be happy to make a meal out of any person wandering through." Jake nodded with a nervous smile, but his smile became more earnest when she mentioned that going for a swim could be fun, then seemed to ask Tom's permission to join them sometime, which Tom granted, making Jake's grin grow even larger.* Well, I wish Morgan were here, I bet she'd love to take you right now! Er, unless there's other things you gotta do, that is. *He looked sheepishly between Tom and Asani, not wanting to seem presumptuous or anything. If they had plans, and they probably did, Jake didn't want to intrude on any of them, he just thought he'd happily offer the opportunity for Asani to join them out in the jungle sometime.*

Asani would have assured Jake that the fact that there are larger predators elsewhere didn't make the Xinkra any less horrifying. They hunted more than just her kind, and while she figures her training would give her an advantage against them should she ever face one back home, she knows that Jedi or not, a Xinkra would make short work of her, or even an adult human, if they were caught off guard by one.
"I would be happy to go right now, but as you say, Morgan isn't here, and I imagine that Tom does have some plans for us today, being the first day following our agreement that he would continue my Jedi training, and help me in seeking my original Master, Serrin Roma. But I promise, if you let me know when Morgan is around, whenever I'm free, I'll come find you both and we can swimming, as long as it's not somewhere that a huge fish is going to gobble me up."
She says with a chuckle before turning to look up at Tom, wondering if her assumption had been correct and what he had planned for her.

*Tom smiled at Jake as he looked sheepishly at him, assuring the boy that he was not intruding. He then nodded when Asani responded that that Tom probably had plans for the day, glad she had a focus on duty. That was a good quality to have in a student.* She is correct, I will need to see what she has learned so I know how to continue her training until she is reunited with Master Roma. But that's not to say she'll be in training all day, of course. *He winked at Jake with a chuckle, indicating that there would likely be some free time later that day. Last thing he wanted to do was run someone ragged with an entire day of training, especially not on their first day under his teaching.*

*Yep, as suspected, they already had plans, so no going out to the jungle anyway, even if Morgan was here. Actually, Jake was kind of relieved she wasn't, because it would just make things more embarrassing and disappointing. He only nodded understandingly when they mentioned it, though was at least grateful Asani would consider it. And her comment about the fish... well, Morgan knew where to avoid, so they would be good there.
There was a ray of light, though, when Tom offered an opportunity for heading out to the jungle later on. Jake sat up a little with a smile, glad that Tom was going to find some time to let Asani off later on and he looked excitedly first at Tom, then the Kushiban.* Awesome! And you don't have to worry about big fish or anything, we really only go swimming in this lake that's not far away and nothing lives in it, so you'll be okay. Sometimes some other creature might show up, but usually Morgan can shoo it away or we can just hide in the water and wait for it to go away, since most of them can't swim. *Brief silence before Jake's eyes went wide as he realized just how dangerous he made it sound. Quickly he waved his hands, shaking his head as he tried to be reassuring.* But it doesn't happen a lot! And we've never gotten hurt! So don't worry, it won't be dangerous! Besides, Morgan's got an akk dog now, so he can protect us too! *How could he have forgotten Rush? He was a pretty new addition to the family, yes, but he was an awesome one! ... and had saved Morgan's life too. But yeah, Rush would protect them. Though his size and predatory appearance might put Asani on edge... he hadn't thought of that. Jake started to blush, feeling like he was messing this up somehow. He never had this much trouble talking about things like this back at the Yavin Praxeum...*

Asani nods to Tom as he confirms that she is correct about him having training planned for her today. She figures that since he knows basically nothing about what she has been taught so far, that they have a lot to cover today. But there is hope for some leisure time later as Tom promises not to keep her training all day. Jakes reassurance that the lake they swim in was at least relatively safe was also good to hear, but it seemed that their trip out into the jungle and this lake where they would go swimming, hinged on Morgan going with him, and she wasn't here now, so that left one obvious question, which she turns to Jake and asks.
"So, do you think Morgan will be around later today then so we can go have some fun together? Would be a nice way to relax and refresh after a long day of training."
As for Rush, Asani wasn't sure what an Akk dog was, but she figures anything that was big enough to offer protection from other predators on Felucia would be big enough to make short work of a Kushiban, but as long as it didn't so much as try to eat her, Asani wouldn't have any problem with it being around adding to their safety out in the jungle.

*Asked if Morgan would be around later that day, Jake smiled and nodded.* Probably! When I see her, I'll tel her not to go anywhere and tell her about you and hopefully we can find you later. That okay? *He was pretty sure Morgan wouldn't be gone all day; she had training and responsibilities of her own, after all. Besides, she usually said ahead of time if she was going to stay out all night. Sometimes Jake wanted to go and stay a night in the jungle with her, but he never thought to ask. Maybe next time...*

Asani nods happily to Jake, excited to meet Morgan later and go out into the jungle again, this time for some fun, since it was pretty much all business when she went out there with Master Roma. Her feelings now giving her fur an azure hue.
"Alright, that sounds good. Why don't we meet up at the gardens later then? I'll head there after my training is done and if you're not there yet, I'll wait for you."
She offers, figuring she can do some meditating to unwind from her training while she waits if that ends up being the case. But now she turns back to Tom again.
"So, what's first? Do you have any questions, anything you want me to show you?"
She asks curiously, feeling ready to start her training now that she's done with her breakfast and her stomach has had a chance to settle some.

*Tom was glad the two were getting along, and he chuckled softly at Jake's hasty reassurances that, while the jungle did indeed have its dangers, they knew how to handle them. Most of all, Tom was just happy Asani was having an easy transition into the Felucia base so far, especially after the hectic circumstances surrounding her arrival here. Asani was speaking to Tom now, so he focused his attention on her, looked thoughtful for a moment, then spoke.* A little of both, I'd say. If you're ready to begin, I shall lead you to our training area. *He stood, taking up his eating utensils, then nodded at Jake.* It was good sharing a meal with you, Jake. Hopefully we shall see you again later today. *Tom then headed toward the repository before walking toward the exit. He waited long enough for Asani to catch up, then departed into the hallways with her, leading her to the training area.*

*Asani proposed that they met up at the gardens later. Jake grinned and nodded.* Okay! When I see Morgan, I'll bring her with me as soon as I have time. *Tom then had to announce that they had to get going, that he needed to both ask Asani what she had learned and let her show him what she knew already. Jake hadn't realized they had all finished eating already, and he was a little disappointed that time had run out, but that was why they had made plans later! When they got up to leave, Jake also stood and bowed; not to Tom, since he didn't care for it, but to Asani, then smiled at both of them.* It was nice meeting you, Asani, and it was good having breakfast with you as well, Tom. Hope you do well in your training! *He also took away his utensils before returning to the table, grabbing up his bag, and heading to the door himself. By then, Tom and Asani would have already been on their way down the hall; Jake, meanwhile, went a different direction, and to his first class of the day. Later, there would be fun.*

Asani nods and offers a wave to Jake before gathering up her plate, utensils and drink container, then follows Tom, leaving everything at the repository and quickly following after Tom. She may be small, but she's quick, and it doesn't take her long to catch up with him. She is quite excited as she follows him out of the dining area, knowing that her training is about to begin once again, and begins wondering to herself how Tom's training methods will differ from Master Roma's.

Terra entered the dining area followed by Jake, and she picked up a tray of food and waited for Jake to get his meal before going to sit down at one of the empty tables. She set her bag down beside her seat and started eating, figuring they could talk a little more when they had finished. Not that they would have to wait very long, as Terra was usually a really fast eater when she was hungry...

*Jake followed Terra into the dining area, bag slung across his shoulder, heading toward the serving area. As usual, he had to stand up on the tips of his toes in order to better serve himself at the bar, but it was something he'd long been accustomed to anyway and didn't mind. Once he had enough food for now, he then followed Terra over to the table and began to eat, at the same time trying to think of conversation topics. Well, they were eating, so... maybe that was a place to start? He swallowed his current mouthful of food and spoke up.* So... what's your favorite kinds of food?
