With a smirk he watched as his brother gracefully dove backwards....and listened.
...And there it was. The shout of surprised pain and it took all he had not to laugh at his brothers pain. Peering down the maw of the gorge and seeing the small lights from whatever Ferinus had used to cast them gave enough light for him. His right eye turning green allowing for night vision before falling forth into the semi-darkness
Feeling the wind push back at him, his robes snapping as he saw his brother was somehow on an outcropping of stone a bit below, not even at the bottom. Falling for what seemed to be an eternity he contemplated what was next, a child, the woman who bore said child, it all swam about in his mind that he did not think to...
KRIFF
Tucking himself he force pushed against the incoming ground and took the impact on his right side and rolled to his feet, shaking his head and standing acting like nothing had happened as he knew he would get a chiding from his brother that he would not live down.
Standing, he prepared for verbal sparring with Ferinus but then saw something different in his demeanor, his eyes scanning his brothers body language and sabers in his hands. Without hesitation he unclasped twin shoto hilts and peered at his brother, his eye changing and scanning for heat signatures and movement.
What is wrong, are we being followed?
Turning about, he scanned above from where he fell and the sides of the cave before peering just below as the lights descended. All the readings and information he could glean checked out empty, yet when his brother was put off like this, it was incredibly wise to stay on guard.
You've now got me on edge, should we just leave this place and sink a few orbital shots into this...whatever the hell this is?

The correction made her look away and towards the window of the cockpit, watching things move and shift as they themselve moved into place. She was partly correct, at least, and a small amount of pride filled her chest. She kept herself from leaning back in the seat, as the bruises on her shoulder blades ached slightly and would only hurt more if she put pressure on them. A year on Kashyyk... It seemed so much simpler now then what they were dealing with, with what she was dealing with.A part of her missed it. She looked at the control panel in front of her, thinking of what she knew.
"It's... been a long time since I did any reading on it or learned about it... but they're what allows Force sensitive individuals to exist in a way. Without them, we wouldn't be able to use the Force. It's theorized that life wouldn't be able to exist without Midi-chlorians." Force sensitivity... Talking about it made her remember just how weak she was in that department. What had made the Jedi take her in for training, exactly? She didn't have the answer for that. The Zabrak folded her arms over her chest, looking deep in thought. "Midi-chlorians are often studied by Jedi-healers and non Jedi medical professionals alike into how they work and stuff like that." Was that really all Nel knew? She scrambled in her own mind for more. She knew more about the topic then that! She knew she did! The knowledge was just buried under a lot of other things, it felt like, keeping her from accessing it. She put her face in her hand, rubbing at the bridge of her nose as she tried to remember. "I was often told that if I quieted myself and listened, they would speak to me... Not sure how that works, really, but... That's all I can really remember at the moment." She looked over to the man apologetically. She wanted to be of help, to show she wasn't stupid, but she really felt like she'd failed that task. "Sorry, Master. Like I said, it's been a while." As the gleaming, dark craft cut through the toxic fumes which passed for an atmosphere on the larger, dead portion of Anoth's shattered surface Stormro smiled, unsurprised by his apprentice's answer. "Not an inaccurate answer, and certainly more than I would expect most Jedi to know of midichlorilogical studies; most Jedi don't even make it past their preposterous theory that life itself could not exist without them. As if it would be possible for a cellular symbiote to pre-date the cells which they rely upon to coexist..." He scoffed at the notion, clearly not thinking much of those who put much stock in the theory. While Nel's answer itself did not provide much information her body language and the way she spoke of the topic revealed far more than her words himself. Once again Stormro found himself thankful that he had been able to grasp the subtle shatterpoint presented by the unassuming young woman when they had met over a year ago on Tattooine; she would make for a fine apprentice and assistant indeed with the proper training. "To elaborate on what you already know, midichlorians are cellular symbiotes which exist within the cells of the vast majority of life forms. To the best of our understanding they are responsible for the creation of the Force, although there are conflicting theories regarding their exact levels of sentience and sapience. Regardless, higher concentrations of these symbiotes are what allow for individuals such as you and I to directly manipulate the Force rather than merely existing within in as most individuals do. With increased concentrations come increased power, although I have always rejected the short-sighted notion that such raw power is the only metric by which a given Force sensitive's strength can be measured. After-all, I have outlived many of my former comrades in spite of my comparatively low midichlorian count..." His smile widened into a grin as he looked at his apprentice. "One thing that you will quickly learn studying with me is that raw power is not as important as many view it to be; there are ways to accomplish far more with finesse and dedication than mere brute force and power will allow..."

Nel clasped her fingers together, leaning forward attentatively as her Master spoke. Some of it went over her head a bit, but she still tucked most of it away for later mulling over. Sapience and sentience? She wasn't quite sure what the difference was between the two, but there obviously a difference with the way Stormro talked about it. She nodded appropriately to show she was still listening, her attention not once losing focus. She'd always been a good student, or at least tried to be at any rate, even if putting what she learned into practice had always been her shortfall.
And then he had commented about outliving many of his comrades despite his own weakness and she instantly knew why. Those with power often flaunted it and relished it, making them a much more open target for those that knew what they were looking for. The man's grin, though, made her eyes widened. It was a nice grin, making the man almost seem youthful and far less jaded then he usually came across as to her. Her own smile tugged at her own lips in response. A natural reaction, really. Then again though, the lack of power had always made her feel inadequate when it came to her accomplishments and the smile faded as she looked at her feet. Her fingers wrung more tightly together and she leaned back, away from him and the conversation.
She had been led to think a certain way - that use with the Force was important for being effective. There were no other paths. It had never occurred to her that other roads were available if she looked through the brambles, so to speak. "I can only dream of being anywhere near like you, Master. You certainly have a way with words."
She turned to look out at the planet below them, pulling herself inward as she thought about what her Master was presenting to her. Beyond just his research, he was offering her a chance to be successful with the Force, even if it wasn't a commonly viewed path. She wasn't sure she'd be witty enough or have the finesse to pull off anything... but she had the determination to do what she was needed of her, and to thrive. She'd survived on Kashykk for crying out loud! Her spine straightened. Yeah. She definitely could do what was asked of her... it just would take a lot of work, as everything else in her life. "But... that's what you're willing to teach me, huh?"

***Ferinus heard his words. They sounded exactly like him, down to the slightest inflection and yet....faint. From far away. The Sith Lord could not determine if that lent credence to whatever this....presence....was trying to tell him but it certainly didn't take any credence away from the other theory that he was, in fact, beginning his path to insanity.
He registered Phantom's landing next to him and his words but only barely. He was still looking left, right and up. Everywhere. Anywhere he could be.
Could he really be on this planet?? Could he really be nearby? In stasis? After all of these years?
Yet he was in stasis too before rising again to rejoin his brothers.
The Sith Lord turned his brother, his red glowing eyes narrowing to slits through the Sith Torture Mask.***
<<I need you to listen to me very.....VERY.....carefully, Phantom. I sense....>>
**The glowing eyes on the torture mask blinked only once, as if the Sith Alchemist couldn't bring himself to speak the words into existence.**
<<I sense Vitiosus. I hear his words. He says he has awoken from stasis and I somehow....brought him....out....>>
**Ferinus turned his head to the side and tried to speak to his old master again.**
<<I am choosing to grant credence to your words. If you truly are Vitiosus, you can fight the after-effects of stasis. Tell me where you are. What you see. Anything that can indicate where you are.>>

<<Oh you sense him now do you? How, wait better question, why? This remote rock that is better served to mine explosive ordinance from, its better to just use to destr.....Well okay I see it's appeal.>>
He slogged through a muddy puddle and looked around. The sith, the once proud warriors and killers with mystical reasons why they did what they did. If it weren't for the power he would have left in search of more bodies to ravage, more screams to fuel his dreams. Why was everything so coded and hidden? The red blade was a harbinger of death and destruction all on its own, now, it seemed only the tale of things mothers used to scare their children to sleep.
Yet he lent his brother his patience, afterall weirder things have happened.
<<Well I will follow your lead then brother. We've been through worse and more complex things, why should this be any different for us?>>
His eye flicked, changing to a red hue, motion tracking was active. Anything that moved was flagged and from there, well generally things would not want to move. His hand slid within his cloak and he took a deep breath of filtered air. Something, something was off, and if his brother was right, it was either going to be a cold reunion or a bloody ending.

"But... that's what you're willing to teach me, huh?" Stormro's grin widened ever so slightly as he felt his apprentice's admiration for him through the Force, not that such awareness was necessary given the obvious awe in her voice as she spoke. It had been many years since he had last experienced a sensation like that which Nel was likely feeling; the sensation of having one's worldview shattered, leaving only irreparable fragments to be blown away by the winds of change. Her final question made it clear that she was his; the curiosity and desire to learn unmistakable in the simple sentence. "Among other skills, yes; many of our kind, regardless of creed or affiliation, focus far too heavily upon their ability to manipulate the Force. They rely on it, more than even they know; strip away the Force and what remains? No, to rely so heavily upon any single ability is a weakness which I have no intentions of burdening you with. You will learn about aspects of the Force that you have never dreamed of, but you will also study diplomacy, tactics, rhetoric, combat in various forms, and many other arts. In short, I will teach you how to live without the Force, so that when your enemies seek to cripple you by targeting your ability to wield the Force they will find that you are just as dangerous a foe without it as you were with it..." He trailed off, giving Nel time to process his words. She was easily shaped in her current mental state, and he wanted to take care not work the proverbial clay too harshly lest he leave lasting marks that did not suit his vision for the young woman. As he allowed her to chew on his words he pulled back on the throttle, the Wraith slowing as he brought the dark craft in to land gently in what appeared to be a small plaza in the worn remains of an ancient city. From here they would need to proceed on foot to investigate the potential base location.

Nel found herself unable to stop the scoff that came from her mouth. Though it wasn't a scoff of disbelief. It was a noise more of agreement. From what she'd only seen so far, many seemed to focus more on the physical side of things and a lot of Jedi even seemed dependent on the Force. Even so, Stormro was willing to teach her, despite her own weakness. That warmed her some. Someone saw value in her for the first time in a long time. Back at the academy, it often seemed like the teachers were merely tolerating her because it was their job. Perhaps that wasn't how it actually was, but to her young mind, it was actually what had happened. Still, her memories went to her friend: the one person who had stood by her and done all he could to help her grow stronger.
And even with all that strength and ability, he was now dead. Why? She had no answers for that one. To live without the Force, though... that would be an interesting endeavor. One she found herself honestly looking forward to. A challenge awaited in learning all she could, and it lit a fire in her heart to see it through. She'd do all she could to become stronger, whatever that manifested as in her future. She lifted her head, realizing she'd been gazing down at her clasped hands as she pondered and thought about what her Mentor had just told her. She owed the man a lot for saving her and pulling her from her depression - even if that had been merely throwing her to Kashyyk and showing her she could survive. Learning under him was the least she could do, she realized.
Nel nodded. She liked the sound of being just as dangerous without the Force as with it. Her attention was drawn to the window though, as they came to land on their new home. "... What'll I be learning first, Master?"

***The glowing red eyes behind the Sith Lord's torture mask blinked again. His head pivoted from left to right, as if he was changing ears to try to hear Vitiosus better, though the voice was only echoing in his head.
And it was fading. He thought he heard a different voice but he sensed no other presence.
Somewhere dark? And cold? Yet familiar?
A subterranean chamber perhaps? On Anoth? The same world they were on? A million questions raced though Ferinus' mind. How could Vitiosus have wound up there? For what purpose? Had he willingly entered stasis just as Ferinus did?
The alchemist supposed those questions would have to wait until he had his old master right in front of him. For now, he and his brother would have to add Sith-tracking to their world exploration.
He snapped his head up to meet Phantom's, noticing his restless paces.***
<<Very well, then, brother. Follow my lead. Put the energy brimming within you to good use.>>
***With that, Ferinus leaped from the precipice they were perched on, stretching out with The Force all around him. It was like an energy wave bouncing off the sides of the chasm, soaring through the empty air and overlapping each other but still sensing nothing. What was this hole's power? How could he not see-***
"AGGH!"
***His knees locked as his feet crashed onto another precipice. He threw his hands out to catch the rest of his fall, grunting.***
<<<You have to keep talking to me, Vitiosus. Keep yourself awake. What does it smell like? Can you move your arms or legs? Are you restrained in any way?>>>

Watching his brother leap and spectacularly land and crash he hid a smirk behind the gas mask and let the sonar ping again before jumping and landing lightly on his feet next to his brother
<<You really need to get yourself one of these eyes, they work wonders....although I would have to pluck out one of yours in exchange>>
With a laugh he takes off again and finds himself on a lower ledge. How deep did this go and just where were they being lead? He also wondered just what was toying with his brothers perception. Afterall of the two of them Ferinus was the more perceptive and yet he was floundering about like a drunk Gungan being chased by a Sando.
Taking a point on the next ledge he peers lower wondering if they would either level off or continue this trip into the abyss. Something here was ominous, foreboding, and yet they pressed on. Whatever was calling his brother here needed to be worth it otherwise that eyeball could truly find itself on his next dessert plate

***Ferinus shuffled to his feet and dusted himself off, scoffing at his brother.***
<<The day I surrender one of my eyes for an infernal contraption like that is the day I willingly walk into a nest of Gundarks.>>
***On second thought, Ferinus DID need some new beastly thralls. It had been forever since he once commanded an army of undead Rancors.***
<<If I was to pluck that eye out of you, how good would you really be down here??>>
***The Sith Lord kept hearing his old master's voice but it kept coming in and out. They must be getting closer to him if Vitiosus could sense the cavern all around them. And if it smelled familiar was was too small for him to fit in....then....an escape pod, perhaps?
He peered over the ledge he was on, past the ledge Phantom stood on below him.
Could....could an escape pod have landed smack dab at the bottom of this hole?
There was only one way to find out. Ferinus knew he had to get down there fast and find it before his old master was lost to them entirely.***
<<Phantom, I'm going to do something that will endanger my well-being. Use that eye of yours to spot incoming ledges.>>
***He prepared his legs for a leap.***
<<Because I'm getting to the bottom. Now.>>
***With that, he jumped off the ledge, careful to stay within the center of the hole. If these ledges were on the sides, then he would bypass them all.
As the wind rushed all around him, Ferinus spun until he was face-first, soaring downward.***
<<Give me a play-by-play, Phantom!>>
***He then reached back out to Vitiosus.***
<<<You may be inside an escape pod that crashed at the bottom of this hole we're climbing down. If it smells familiar to you. I need you to spot anything around you. Blinking lights. Metallic surfaces. Anything.>>>

*he chided his brother who landed next to him. As Ferinus peered over the ledge so did Phantom. It was still a ways down, ledge by ledge it was
As he was contemplating his brother rushed past and elegantly swan dove into the depths.*
<<Kriff....>>
*Phantom quickly took out two metal balls and hurled them, bolstering their speed with the force, they pulsed at different intervals relaying the information back to him*
<<I hate that you do....KRIFF 7 meters to your upper right, jagged protrusion of rock...things like this. Force push delicately, the structure this way seems weakened. 10 meters after you have a flat ledge on your entire left side. Whatever came through here hugged the right a bit....oh wait... 25 meters outcropping, big slab. Then a narrow one, with the ledge running top left around to bottom left and then bottom right. Lastly you should have some what seem to be previously molten crags jutting from the right. Flat landing bottom left to alight upon>>
*Phantom sighed and tilted forward and began the fall as well. Things seemed to look differently when you've died*

What'll I be learning first, Master?" Nel's question actually forced Stormro to think for a moment; he had yet to create a formalized lesson plan for his apprentice and while he knew what he wanted her to become that alone did not map out every step of the path which laid before her. "Presuming that we are not interrupted or drawn into further distractions the first thing we shall be doing is having that training duel; beyond exposing you to forms of combat that you have yet to face I suspect that you shall find the experience to be quite...educational..." He grinned, knowing full well what he had planned for the young woman. It was sadistic, yes, but at the same time it would also better prepare her to survive amongst the Sith. He had met too many foes, both Jedi and Sith, over the years who were ill-prepared for many of his esoteric tricks and approaches to conflict and he had no intention of allowing his apprentice to be such an individual. "As for formal lessons, we shall begin with the history and origins of the Sith; I am certain that you have not been taught the truth behind the conflict that has shaped the Jedi and Sith for millennia, and if you are to understand the path you have chosen to walk then you must understand the paths walked by those who came before us." Rising from the pilot's chair as the ship powered down, Stormro removed a breathing mask from the cockpit's emergancy supplies and pulled it over his mouth and nose so that he could survive the toxic atmosphere long enough to investigate the area. "Come, tell me what you know of the origins of the Sith as we investigate these ruins. And speak through the Force; the practice will do you good and there is little point in using more oxygen than is necessary..."

Not drawn into distractions? Right. The whole group they were now associated with was a distraction in Nel's mind. She dared not voice that though. Some opinions were best kept to one's self. Especially with that grin that spread over her Master's face. It was different then the one he had given her earlier, almost predatory in nature. It was definitely a wise idea to keep her mouth shut right now. She tilted her head to the side as she followed the man, her mind dredging back to her history lessons. There wasn't much she remembered, as history had actually been one subject she didn't pay that much attention to. There was too much going on in the world in the present that looking to the past seemed like a bad idea. It was nipping her in the rear now.
The young woman quickly took a breathing mask and put it over her face as her master had done, her eyes on the man, her thoughts still coalescing. What she knew was very little. "I... know that there was a group a long time ago that separated from the Jedi Order... Due to a difference in mindset and beliefs, correct? They... the Sith, became mortal enemies of the Jedi for that. I will admit that I don't remember that much more about it beyond that. I was always more interested in current affairs."
She went quiet, waiting for some sort of berating from her teacher. Nel knew she should have paid more attention in the past, but what had the point been back then? Yes, history could repeat itself if not paid attention to, but there were always conflicts that rose up in current times that were more directly a threat. Surely Stormro knew more, especially if he was asking her what she knew. Obviously she knew next to nothing, now that she voiced what she did know.

***Following his brother's instructions, Ferinus spun in the air to the left and dodged the first protrusion. Staying on the left, he jutted his arm out and extended his index and middle finger, sending a concentrated beam of Force crashing through the large slab coming to meet him.
The Master Alchemist flew through the hole in the middle of the slab that the blast left in its wake.
He threw both his hands out behind him and sent a Force Push crashing into the wall behind him, propelling him to the other side of the hole and dodging the other large slab.
Finally, he spun to the upper right to avoid the next outcropping.
But then he sensed something.
Something big.
Fast approaching.
Kriff.
He threw both hands out in front of him, sending a Force Push straight into the suddenly appearing floor of the hole. The force of the blast made him bounce once, flip in the air and land on his feet, his twin crimson saber ignited in the infinite black expanse surrounding him.***
<<Be careful, Phantom. I believe....I have found the end of the hole.>>
***Ferinus whirled around once. His sabers were the only illumination to his name at the moment. Again, the darkness of this cavern hid everything from his sight, even through the Force. He continued to wonder what it was about this place that prevented his sight while reaching out to his old master again.***
<<<The Dark Side is indeed strong here. I feel it permeating the air. I feel it threatening to consume us here. What is your confinement, my old master? Are you restrained? Are you being crushed? There's no one else there with you, is there?>>>

*The air whipped around him, damp and cold as his massive overcloak snapped at its tails.
His brother had seemed to survive the fall so why not.
Maneuvering from side to side, ledges moving past it seemed alright so far. Oh but physics...he began to speed up the ledges and outcropping of rock began to fly by with a blur. Spinning himself and tucking his hands in to streamline his descent time seemed to slow even as everything around shot past.
Eyes squinting he saw a faint red glow at the bottom. Aiming himself near it he removed his hands his right hand had it's palm extended, the other robotic one seemed to have moved.
The ground came quickly and with a rapid movement he launched a force push at the ground tossing himself back and activated a shoot, the red/orange hue glowing as he slammed it into the incoming wall and caught himself. Slowly sliding as he then got to his feet, shoto held in a reverse grip as he smoothed his hair back and stood next to his brother*
<<I don't think I've ever willingly fallen into a cavern before. I'm not sure it's something I would want to repeat either.
Where to now?>>

Though I do not feel crushed, the weight of this place is overbearing... And there is another presence... It is strong, familiar, and seems to be following you.>>
*As Ferinus explores the cavern, he notices that it is very much a natural crevasse. As he moves deeper, at the very edge of the Lightsaber's glow, he notices a shadow. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be man made.... Familiar... It looks like a doorway one would find in the ancient Temples of the Sith....*
