Riddick's words about how any given meal or breath, due, no doubt, to the fact that I know that I will be departing from the academy for however long it takes me to complete the tasks ahead of me, strike a chord within me, making me appreciate the simple joys of the meal and the company all the more. The sentiment espoused by Riddick's words is not an unfamiliar one to me, nor an uncomfortable one given my views, taught to me by all those who instructed me on my path to becoming a Jedi though it took me more time, leavened generously by experience, to truly understand and embrace the belief their instruction was meant to instill; and yet I find myself grateful for the reminder all the same for it permits me, if only for a brief time, to set aside all thoughts of the strife and conflict and hardships no doubt awaiting each and every one of us that share the meal.
Intent on fully appreciating the meal and the company, I find myself observing more than joining in the conversation, though I do join in it from time to time, hoping to carry the memories and warmth of the moments we share with me when I venture forth on the tasks Ashla has set out for me; memories such as Hyatt, as irrepressibly cheerful and humorous as ever, jokingly asking Riddick where he and his people stand on the matter of passing flatulence after a meal, or of Vaayla's quiet sense of serenity amidst her more outgoing and boisterous comrades, and of Riddick's patient endurance of the many questions Rakella, ever curious and eager to learn about any subject she is not knowledgeable of, asks of him, and of Carak's subtle efforts to save him from Rakella's relentless curiosity.
After we have finished the gumbo and crabs, I stand and lift a hand to prevent Riddick from attending to the serving of the pound cake for dessert, telling him in a playfully stern voice, "Stay seated please. The very least we can do in exchange for your efforts as chef is serve out the dessert. Would you like any caf or tea . . ."
"Orrrr a pudding wine, perrrhaps?" Carrak interrupts me to add her own suggestion.
Belching with abandon in order to show his appreciation of the meal, Hyatt tells Riddick as a mortified Vaayla covers her face with her hands and shakes her head beside him, "That was bloody fantastic, ol' chap, and then jokes, If you ever consider a career change to the culinary arts, we'd like to go on record as having first dibs on retaining your services." "Serrin, as much as I would appreciate a cup of caf, coffee or tea, I think you will find that the pound cake goes a little better with a well aged brandy or whiskey. Perhaps, however, that is just a matter of opinion." Jae takes the last swig of the drink beside him. "As for becoming a cook, I do believe that that ship has sailed for now. As much as I do enjoy preparing a meal, there are other things to which I must devote my attention, though I would not be opposed to bringing along some spices and other ingredients the next time I swing by, let alone the occasional meal." As Jae finishes his statement, he pulls a toro length cigar from a pouch, along with the cutter and lighter for it. Overall, the meal seems to have had its desired effect, not just of feeding people and giving them the fuel for the task ahead, but also that of bonding. Without missing a beat, Riddick was able to keep pace with Hyatt, even when he joked about passing gas after a meal, quipping that one really shouldn't unload where they eat. Briefly, Riddick gave thought to what he had proposed earlier. He was reasonably confident, not hubristic however, in the capabilities of not just his own ilk, but of those he sought to ally him and his world with, especially that it would be a kind of coming out for his world in terms of a major player and power in the galaxy. The task, needless to say, wasn't going to be easy. No campaign that dealt beyond mere brute force ever was, especially that what he had in mind was to change the centuries old battling from being like a game of chess, to being more like a game of go. Instead of battling ship to ship with massive fighter alpha strikes, Riddick envisioned a more scalpel like approach where massive slug-fests were a last resort. Just as quickly as the thought had entered one's mind, it left. Riddick set about enjoying the last leg of the meal, knowing that this small gathering would part under better, stronger terms, not just for the battle ahead, but for a considerable time thereafter. He turned his attention back to the gathering, and explained a small point of interest with the dessert."Now, this pepper pound cake is really more of a base recipe, each tribe has their own variation of it. As with all our food, Ysannan cooking stems from the days, way back, when we had a far more limited supply of ingredients to work with. As such, we had to make use of everything we could, and not to waste anything, which is part of why our cuisine tends to be on the spicy side. Not necessarily "hot" spicy, but also flavor spicy as well, with things such as cinnamon, or with herbs like taragon and cilantro."

Nodding when Riddick explains that brandy or whiskey better suits the dessert he has prepared, I enlist Carak's aid in locating both so that everyone has the option of choosing between them or the pots of tea and caf that Qochata, our attentive head chef, has brewed for us all.
Returning in time to hear Riddick's comments on Ysannan cooking, Carak and I serve out the drinks to all present after asking what they would like while Qochata, whom Carak and I ask to join us all as their is no shortage of the dessert Riddick has prepared, does the same with the tea and caf.
After we are all seated, the dessert served out, once more, I lift my cup of tea and propose a toast, "To our chef, and the time to enjoy one another's company that his efforts have brought us all."
"Hear, hear," Hyatt agrees cheerfully, lifting his glass of Whyren's Reserve as others around the table echo his sentiments.

"Hear, hear," Hyatt agrees cheerfully, lifting his glass of Whyren's Reserve as others around the table echo his sentiments. Riddick raises his glass of 18 year old Corellian Whiskey, nodded and took a sip, taking care to savor its flavor notes. He continued to enjoy the final touch to the meal, and kept up with conversation. Having the dessert, though not the largest portion of the overall meal, did take the longest of all courses, as there was plenty of talk to be had, and was a way of drawing out the good of the event. Considering that what he had proposed earlier in the day, an undertaking of real gravity, it was no surprise that it still weighed on his mind. Thus the company of friends and good people certainly dulled the edge a bit and made the whole thing seem far more manageable. Part way through, he took his cigar and snipped the cap off, being sure to catch it and place it off to a side of his plate. He then lit it and took savored draws of it, making sure that the smoke didn't intrude into anyone else's place.
Every once in a while, Riddick would catch glimpses in his mind's eye of what would be ahead of them. He knew that the ultimate goal would be asking the ultimate price from some. That was to be expected, though it would still be felt keenly. But it would as much have the ultimate payout, if done right, and with the training and whatnot that Riddick had in mind for preparation. He also was aware that it would be a massive paradigm shift for many. Perhaps it was a form of combat that was unaccustomed by many. Perhaps it would be an etiquette and a manner of conduct that would not sit well with others, which he was already used to encountering as an issue. Whatever it would be, he hoped that it would proceed smoothly as could be expected, given the circumstances. He looked around the table, noting the jubilance of his company, the different races and cultures events small group encompassed, gathered for a common cause. Faces and voices that would be etched to memory. "Life in every blade of grass, in every cup of tea, life in every breath," he thought to himself. Within a quick moment, Riddick felt as is a fog had lifted as he returned from a moment's introspection to the lively conversation that was still being had over dessert.

The conversations around the table continue for a short time after the dessert has been consumed, everyone finishing their caf, tea, whiskey or brandy in the desire to prolong the brief, welcome respite from responsibilities, concerns, cares and worries that are waiting for us all. As Vaayla and Hyatt, after thanking Riddick once more for the meal and dessert he prepared, begin to clear away the dishes and utensils from the table after telling Riddick that he is not to try and help in the clean up in any way, I finish the last of my Naris-bud tea and, setting the cup down on a saucer, smile as, after adding my thanks to those he has already received, I tell Riddick, "I believe that went quite well, and hope you have enjoyed yourself as much as we have," and then put a hand over my cup when Vaayla attempts to clear it away, tending to the cup and saucer myself, after all, the very least I can do.
Standing up and collecting a plate, my cup and saucer, and a few utensils Hyatt and Vaayla have not yet collected from the table, I tell Riddick, "We will look after things from here, Riddick, you should go and get some rest."

"And you would be right, as it will be a long ride back out to the Outer Rim. I will set out about mid morning, after I have gotten adequate sleep and done a preflight on my craft." Riddick took the last full draw of his cigar before placing it in a nearby ash tray. "I am certainly pleased that my efforts seemed to be... 'fruitful.' I am glad you all enjoyed it." Riddick gives a respectful nod to all present, after also offering to pitch in with cleaning up, though he was sure they would insist it isn't a problem, before turning in for the night. With his eventual departure from the mess hall, he would soon find himself at his appointed quarters, where he would don something better for sleep and have one last night cap before falling asleep.

After thanking Riddick once more for the meal he prepared for us all and then bidding him a good evening and a safe journey should I not see him again before we both set out on the journeys ahead of us, I help Vaayla and Hyatt finish cleaning up, restoring the kitchen area to the same pristine state it had been in prior to the meal so that our head chef, Qochata, has no reason to regret allowing us the use of what I am sure he considers his domain.
Once the cleaning has been completed, I retire to my quarters to sleep before setting out in the morning.

=Raja=Fresh off completing Master Flint's test in the training room, Raja returned to the dining hall. He had stopped by earlier for a snack, but he hadn't truly taken the time to examine the facility in detail. He was in awe of such a large room dedicated to eating. You didn't find many restaurants this size in the Outer Rim worlds he'd grown up on, and this was a private facility, just for the Jedi Academy. But the best part was the smells. His stomach growled as he picked up a tray and went to inspect the three large buffet tables, heavily laden with trays of food from over a dozen cultures. Eagerly, the young student began rapidly filling up his tray with nerf steak (grilled with Ojomian onions and a blend of native Corellian peppers), sliced and fried Corellian peppers with butter sauce, purple wedges of Beelpop melon, and a handful of sweetsand cookies. It had been a long time since Raja had seen so much food in one place, and his plate was piled high by the time he reached the end of the line.Looking around for a place to sit, some of his enthusiasm leaked away as he spotted groups of students sitting together, laughing and chatting, oblivious to him. Elsewhere, several masters sat together at a table, solemn and silent, but also ... together. He hadn't met any of the students yet, nor did he recognize the masters that were present. Raja looked down at his shoes for a moment, another pang of homesickness hitting him. Then, he walked silently over to one of the empty tables in the far corner, and sat down.

The only thing Halmner really focused on as much as he workout and training was his nutrition. He made it about to bring the dinning hall staff. He knew that he was about to be a bit of a pain with them these next few months, so he had tried to get on the good sides. He needed high proteins and very high calories, but those still had to be healthy calories.

Entering the dining hall as she concludes her abbreviated account of her personal history, Leontyne explains, "So, while I did not follow exactly in my Master's footsteps, being a Jedi Archaeologist still involves a great deal of traveling, so I tend to be away from the academy quite often. Nodding towards the buffet style tables at the far end of the dining hall, Leontyne says, There is usually a wide variety of teas available."
Once they reach the beverage area, Leontyne makes a cup of Blue honeycup tea for herself, holding the mug in both hands and blowing on it as, while waiting for Sabine to make her selection, she looks around the dining hall to see which of the more senior Jedi are present. Smiling and giving her old Master, Ranieri Greco, a nod when she spots the white haired and bearded eighty five year old native Corellian sitting alone at a table and reading from a datapad with a cup of caf at his elbow.
"We're in luck, Leontyne tells Sabina once the Diktat has made her own tea, Master Greco, she points towards her old Master, often serves as an interim headmaster when Masters Frantz and Raganella are away, the implication being that he would have the authority to act on any of the suggestions that Sabina makes should he decide it is worthwhile to do so. After making her way to the table where Ranieri is sitting, Leontyne greets him warmly, Hello, old man. Would it be alright if we join you? This is Diktat Gaultieri, she has come to introduce herself and has some ideas about how the academy might work more closely with the government."
Ranieri, setting his datapad down, smiles as he gestures towards the empty seats across from him, his voice gravelly and his words delivered in a precise and firm tone that has a steady cadence, "Please, sit and make yourselves comfortable. Diktat, it is a pleasure to meet you, the crinkles at the corners of his eyes deepen as he smiles, having little patience for beating around the bush and getting straight to the point by asking, Now then, let us hear your ideas."

Selecting Kopi tea for herself, Sabina is about to ask Leontyne more about what a Jedi Archaeologist does when the Socorran points out Master Greco and, after leading them over to the table where the grandfatherly looking Jedi is sitting, throws her almost immediately into the deep end by explaining that Sabina is here to talk about ways the Jedi on Corellia and the government could start working together again as they have in the past. Sabina had intended to work her way up to that discussion after having taken some time to learn more about the Jedi of the academy since there are bound to have been some changes since Masters Raganella and Frantz have been away, but with Master Greco apparently sharing his former apprentice's preference to skip the small talk, she has little choice but to adjust her plan accordingly.
"The pleasure is all mine, Master Greco, Sabina tells the Jedi as she sits down and then takes a sip of her tea. In short, I would like to reestablish the close ties that once existed between the Jedi here at the academy and the government of the Five Worlds. There was a time that the Jedi worked closely with CorSec and the CDF, and served as advisors to the government, and I would like to take steps towards rebuilding those ties. It would, in addition to providing opportunities for your Padawans and Initiates interested in becoming Guardians or Sentinels to gain experience in things like investigation or, for those interested in becoming Consulars, in the arts of diplomacy and mediation, bring the Jedi's insight back to institutions that would only benefit from it. I would also be interested in exploring the idea of having Jedi Watchmen on each of the Five Worlds, explaining briefly, I have tried to ensure that each of our member worlds retains as much of their independence as possible during times of peace, and think that it would behoove us all to have the Jedi more actively involved in the goings on of the Five Worlds. It would, she points out, also, I imagine, make it easier for your Order to identify possible Initiates if you had Jedi on different worlds."
Thinking that is enough to discuss for now, and that before she makes her last proposal it would be beneficial to gain a sense of what Master Greco thinks of her ideas so far, Sabina pauses to take a drink of her tea and to give him a chance to reply.

"Hmm," is Raneri's immediate response to Sabina's suggestions as he strokes his bearded chin while considering what the Diktat has proposed. From a certain point of view, Raneri thinks, the suggestions almost seem like constructive criticism; while there are individual Jedi that have been involved in the goings on around the universe, the Jedi Order as a whole has been removed from the types of affairs they were once much more involved in, and Sabina almost seems to be gently prodding the Jedi of Corellia to take steps towards becoming more active participants in the goings on, at lease insofar as the Five Worlds of the Corellian system are concerned.
An almost amused, "Heh, is the next sound Raneri makes before he looks at Sabina and says, To sum up, you think we ought to get out of our academy and start doing our jobs, looking at Leontyne as he asks rhetorically, What a novel idea, no? Returning his attention to Sabina, he says, I agree that it would behoove us to seek out opportunities for our Jedi learners, Knights and Masters here at the academy to put into practice what they have learned or teach. Opportunities, Diktat, such as those you have just described. Folding his hands together on the table, Raneri asks, curious to hear how Sabina intends to put her ideas into practice, So, how do you imagine we begin to see that your ideas are realized?"
Leontyne, after taking a drink of her tea, suggests one way to begin restoring the ties between the academy and the agencies that Sabina has mentioned, "We could start by selecting Jedi to act as liaisons between CorSec and the CDF, or as Watchmen of the other four worlds in the Corellian system, and then arranging for them to meet with the leaders or chosen representatives of those worlds or agencies."
Nodding, seeing no flaw in the idea, Raneri says, "That could work, and asks Sabina, And what do you think, Diktat?"

Sabina chuckles when Master Greco paraphrases what she had said in an amusing way, shaking her head to make it clear that she had not intended for her suggestions to have implied anything like the Jedi on Corellia having been in any lax in their duties; though she does get the impression that, had she implied something along those lines Greco would not necessarily have disagreed with or been offended by it.
Knight Ciresi's ideas about how they could start to make the effort to strengthen the ties between the Jedi on Corellia and the government are so good that Sabina replies to Master Greco's about what she thinks by saying, "I think that Knight Ciresi's ideas are so good that we should use them, Master Greco. Why don't we set a time for the candidates you choose for the roles of liaisons and Watchmen to meet with the leaders of CorSec, the CDF and other Four Worlds of the Corellian System in a week's time? Getting all those individuals together in one location would probably be difficult at best, and so Sabina says, A holo-conference would probably be best for the initial meeting, but I would like to make sure that your liaisons meet with their counterparts in the agencies they would be working with personally at some point, and the Watchmen, naturally, would do the same when relocating to the worlds they will be watching over. How does that all sound so far?"

Raneri smiles and says, "That all sounds quite sensible, Diktat." A week should, Raneri thinks, be plenty of time to find Jedi interested in fulfilling the roles that have been discussed, and make any other preparations that might be needed to ensure they are ready for the holo-meeting Sabina proposes. Raneri feels more invigorated the longer he thinks about the possibilities presented by Sabina's proposals, the thought of the academy's students and teachers becoming more involved with the outside world and universe beyond it after having stepped away from them giving him a stronger sense of purpose than he has felt in recent years.
Leontyne takes another sip of her tea before asking Sabina, "Are there any other ideas you would like to discuss, Diktat?"

Sabina knows that her last proposal may not be as easy for the Jedi to accept, and so decides to ease her way into it by feeling out how they respond to her initial probing question, "That depends, she says in a somewhat cautious tone suggesting she is aware that she is entering untested waters, on what your thoughts are about the New Rebel Alliance. Since some initial explanation might be beneficial in the event the Jedi have not yet heard of the NRA, Sabina says, I've only recently learned of their existence myself, and have yet to determine how I might get in contact with their leaders, but am considering doing so in order to see if there is any support the Five Worlds might lend to their efforts, she lifts a hand adding for clarification, short of committing the CDF to their cause . . . pausing before adding with a slightly mischievous upward curl of one corner of her lips, in its entirety, that is, or aboveboard, at any rate,"
Thinking that should be enough to get a read on the Jedi's feelings on the subject, Sabina stops to give them an opportunity to voice their opinions.

Leontyne, arching an eyebrow with an amused smile when Sabina asks for their thoughts on the New Rebel Alliance, quips, "The New Rebel Alliance? What happened to the old one?" Given that Sabina, who almost certainly has contacts in the CDF and CorSec that provide her with intelligence about the goings on around the universe, learned of the New Rebel Alliance not long ago, Leontyne is not surprised that she herself has not, her focus on her assignments which by and large concerning uncovering more about the past than is presently known and on the training of her Padawan often commanding her attention to the point she seldom has any interest in watching the holonews to learn about what is transpiring in the present.
Raneri, rubbing the bridge of his nose and giving Leontyne a look that silently bids her to refrain from making any more jokes, tells Sabina, "I am afraid you have me at something of a disadvantage, as I have not heard of the New Rebel Alliance before now. Rubbing his bearded chin, Raneri says, Given, however, that I believe it is safe to assume that they share the same ideology and motives of their namesake, I think that your desire to see how the Five Worlds could aid their cause is something we would be in support of, if that is what you are wanting to know."
Recalling that the Diktat had spoken about her support of the NRA not involving a total commitment of the CDFs forces, Raneri asks, "You mentioned you would not be able to commit the CDF to the Rebels' cause, is that because you don't feel that they would share your desire to support the Rebellion's cause? Thinking of an alternative reason the Diktat would have felt the need to make the statement about the commitment possibly needing to be below rather than aboveboard, Raneri asks, Or because the other worlds in the Corellian system tend to have a more isolationist outlook that would make them wary of the potential for reprisal from the First Order were your support of the Rebellion's cause come to their attention?"

Sabina can't help but chuckle at Ciresi's joke, and finds a way to use the comment for effect as she says, "Funny, but the not so funny answer, I believe, to that question would be that the old one failed when not enough worlds or individuals supported their efforts when they desperately needed any help they could get to stand against tyranny and oppression. Swerving away from that topic before she gets too heated by dwelling on it, Sabina turns her attention to Master Greco and says, I have no doubt your assumptions are correct, Master Greco, and am grateful for your support."
Pausing a moment before replying to Greco's question about the CDF, Sabina explains, "Let's just say that some of the leaders of the other worlds are concerned about the possibility of reprisal, but are still willing to provide some degree of support to the NRA without necessarily making that fact public knowledge. Tralus and Talus, specifically, had been harder to get on board with her ideas, but Sabina had been able to get them to agree to some things in the end, and is satisfied with what the Selonians and Drall have offered to provide without any conditions being imposed on their support. As for the CDF, Sabina says, while they can't detach ships or personnel for extended time periods due to their commitment to watch over the Five Worlds, both Admiral Biancardi and Major General Cernea are willing to consider doing so for specific operations on a case to case basis."
Pursing her lips for a moment as she considers the best way to make her request of the Jedi, Sabina ultimately decides to just say, "I was hoping that you would consider asking if any of your Knights or Masters would be willing to join a special forces unit I am putting together to offer to the NRA. The other four worlds have, she explains, found volunteers for a medic, a sniper, a slicer and a sapper. They could use a pilot," she concludes, opening her hands in front of her to invite the Jedi to respond to her request.

Leontyne squints as she winces, inclining her head in a bow as she silently accepts the subtle rebuke from the Diktant and acknowledges that her point was well scored; though she understands that the comment was not directed at her personally, she can see how from certain points of view the Jedi, by not uniting as an Order to aid those groups that stood up against the First Order when it began to grow in strength, had been remiss in their duty to stand and fight for the freedom of those worlds that found themselves under the yoke of Imperial oppression.
Ranieri, looking only slightly less rebuked than his former Padawan, unable to completely disassociate himself from what many among even the Jedi themselves see as a failure to act when they may have been able to halt the spread of the Empire before it reached the point it's relentless advance was all but impossible to stem, reminds himself of the dangers inherent in dwelling on those things that cannot be changed and focuses instead on the opportunities to act now that the Diktat has presented them with. After listening to Sabina's explanation about why the CDF, their hands tied to a certain degree by their duties to the Five Worlds, is not able to entirely commit their forces to the NRA's cause, which is followed by a request for the Jedi of Corellia to see if one among them would be willing to join the Rebel's cause by joining with a team of specialists that the Diktat is assembling to aid the NRA in their fight. "I think, Ranieri says, we could find you a pilot among the Jedi here, Diktat. With a smile that suggests his next words are meant mostly in jest, he asks, Is there anything else you would ask of us?"

Sabina smiles when Greco, after saying that he will find her a pilot for the special forces unit that she has assembled, telling him, "The other members of the unit have already assembled on Selonia at CDF Fort Tir'mal so they can get familiar with one another and train together until I can find a way to reach out to the NRA leaders and see if they are willing to accept the unit in the first place, laughing a bit as she says, Ideally they will, otherwise I suppose I'll have to find another use for them."
Pausing for a moment to think about taking Greco up on the offer to ask anything else from the Jedi on Corellia, Sabina concludes that she has probably already asked enough of them and so says, "I think that is all for the moment, Master Greco, adding with a mischievous glint in her eye, but if I think of anything else I will let you know. Sitting back in her seat, Sabina sums up, So then, a week from now we'll have the holo-conference with the liasons you select and their counterparts in CorSec and the CDF, and the Watchmen for the other four worlds if they haven't relocated and reached out to the leaders on those worlds yet. If you can let me know the Jedi filling those roles, and the pilot you select for the unit ahead of time, I would appreciate it. In the meantime, if you need to reach me for any reason, if I'm not at the Capital Tower, someone there will know how to put you in contact with me."
Standing up and offering the Jedi a bow since that seems to be the preferred manner of greeting and making farewells, Sabina says, "It's been a pleasure, Master Greco, Knight Ciresi, and then sighs as she says, While I'd like to stay and see more of the academy, I have learned that the longer I'm away from the Tower, the more things needing my attention seem to start piling up."

Leontyne and Ranieri, both standing after the Diktat has done so, return the bow she offers them and accompany to the hangar to see her off. While in the hangar they manage to cross the first item off of the Diktat's wish list, Jedi Knight Benedicte Proulx, a native Corellian with a talent and passion for flying, agreeing to accept the role of the pilot for the Diktat's team of specialists, with little in the way of persuasion being required.
Returning to the dining hall, guessing that the fact she was the one to have welcomed the Diktat to the academy and was present during the discussion about what the Diktat proposed and asked the Jedi on Corellia to do in relation to her proposals will mean that Raneiri asks that she help out with the effort to find Jedi qualified for and willing to take on the assignments making the Diktat's proposals a reality, asks before her former Master needs to try and persuade her, "What do you want me to focus on, Master, the lisaons or the Watchmen?"
Raneiri chuckles, "Saw that coming did you?"
Nodding, Leontyne smiles and says, "I know you well, Master. So?"
Rubbing his bearded chin, Raneiri pauses before saying, "You look after the liasons, and I will see to the Watchmen. How does that sound?"
"Works for me, Leontyne tells him while looking around the dining hall to see if any of the Knights or Masters present jump out at her as being ideal for acting as liasons for the CDF or CorSec, spotting Jedi Knight Makya Mir, a male Kel Dor that has worked with CorSec on a few occasions in the past, and telling Raneiri, In fact I think I see my first vic . . . candidate now," bowing and then making her way over to Makya to see if he will be the second item to be crossed off the Diktat's wish list.
