And so the game continued, Faun managing to actually tag Serena a number of times, which was more than she expected with her slow running speed. Maybe her knowledge of shortcuts actually did work to her advantage, or maybe Serena was allowing Faun to catch up with her by not using her full speed. If so... Faun didn't know what to think of that, if it was nice or making fun of her. Still, after a while, Faun was starting to get out of breath, slowing to a stop and resting her hands on her knees as she panted heavily. Can... can we stop please? I'm tired...

Serena was breathing heavily by the time Faun asked if they could stop, and she had been pleasantly surprised at the number of times that Faun had been able to catch her despite being a slower runner. She had been expecting to hold back for most of the game but Faun had used those shortcuts through the gardens quite well, and Serena had been forced to go at full speed. She had lost count of how many times they had tagged each other but that didn't really matter. Honestly, she had actually had fun and she hoped Faun had enjoyed the game as well.
She smiled and nodded, still panting from all that running around."Yeah OK...let's take a break...whew..."Serena slowly walked over to one of the benches and flopped down on it.

Good, Serena agreed to a stop, taking a seat on a nearby bench. One of Faun's exhaled breaths was one of relief, and he followed Serena to the bench, sitting down upon it and fanning her wings out behind her, having kept them curled in during the game to prevent wind resistance; maybe that was one of the reasons she wasn't a fast runner? Faun contemplated it for a moment while she regained her breath and smiled at Serena. Thank you for playing with me. She wasn't really sure what else to say, and it seemed polite; politeness was something Faun adhered to, despite her former "outcast" status. Did children usually thank each other for playing with them? She didn't even know. It seemed right, anyway...

Serena smiled and nodded, finding it a little strange that Faun was thanking her for a game of tag, but she kept that thought to herself."You're welcome. I had fun!"Next time she hoped there could be more participants. Tag was always more fun with more people playing.

Faun giggled when Serena said she had fun, which was good; Faun was really happy that someone had fun spending time with her. Faun was also happy just to be able to spend time with someone else and have fun with them, but to hear the feeling was mutual just made it that much better. Me too! There was a pause for a moment as Faun wondered if this made them friends. Would it be bad to assume they were after just one game of tag? Was that how things worked? Faun had no idea, and the only way she could find out was to ask... but was it silly to ask? Well, she had no other way, and she'd have to. Blushing a little and looking a little nervous, she started to ask with a bit of a stammer. Er... does... does this mean we're friends now? She pressed her hands together between her knees and shrank a little, feeling silly for asking. She didn't want to appear desperate or stupid, but she had no other choice. Hopefully Serena said yes...

Serena was happy to hear that Faun had enjoyed the game. So did that make them friends? Some people might not think that one game of tag would be a good reason to call someone a friend but fortunately for Faun, Serena wasn't one of those people. She had made friends with Morgan the first day she had been on Felucia so why couldn't she be friends with Faun after having known her only for a few hours? Serena saw no reason to say no.
Seeing that Faun seemed a little embarrassed at herself, Serena smiled reassuringly."Of course it does! Why wouldn't we be friends now?"

Faun felt so relieved and joyful when Serena said that of course it made them friends, and immediately her blushing subsided and was replaced by a bright smile. She even felt her eyes moistening a little something she quickly blinked away and looked to the side for a moment, hoping it wasn't seen. She looked back at Serena just as she asked why they wouldn't be friends now. Faun's expression froze and slowly faded, and she looked down into her lap solemnly. Because no one else would be my friend before.

Serena's eyes widened when Faun informed her that no one wanted to be her friend before. That was terrible! Why would no one want to be Faun's friend before? Was it because of her wings? That seemed like a dumb reason for not wanting to be someone's friend. Faun was a nice girl so Serena couldn't see why no one before would want to be friends with her before.
She sighed."No one? No one at all? How 'come?"She hoped that Faun wouldn't be upset with her for asking.

Serena seemed genuinely shocked that no one else had ever played with her before. Well, that wasn't entirely true, she'd played with Knita obviously, maybe only a couple other kids... but other than them, no one had ever played with her. Still, Faun looked up at Serena, silent as she contemplated her response. Then she looked back down into her lap. They thought I was weird... because I have wings. Normally, Faun never let these things get to her. Often she had been depressed or lonely but normally she never felt too emotional about it. So why was she tearing up a little now? Was it because, now that she was finding people who accepted her, she knew now just how much she missed growing up on the Coruscant Temple. So many friends she could've made, so much fun she could've had, and she had gotten none of it. Why? Because only a couple of kids thought it was weird, whereas so far none of the children here thought as much.
So crying right now was justified, right?

Serena wasn't sure what to do when Faun started crying, having never really been good at comforting a crying person. Marc was really good at that, but not her. It really did seem unfair that Faun had gotten made fun of for having wings, but Serena just didn't know what to say. If only her big brother was here or something...
Eyeing Faun nervously, she reached over and took the other girl's hand."I...I'm sorry...?"

Faun had lost awareness of everything around her as she was lost in her thoughts, tears flowing, a sob or two rocking her throat. But when she felt Serena take her hand reassuringly, she looked up at her with an almost gasp, a blurred and refracted image before her. Faun looked away and rubbed her eyes on her sleeve, sniffled, then looked back at Serena with a smile. Don't be sorry. It's not your fault. And now, silence, though Faun still felt a little sad inside. She looked down at the hand that held hers and her thoughts wandered; friends hugged, right? She and Knita hugged sometimes, but Faun didn't get as many hugs as she might have liked. And right now, she felt like she could use a hug, but... would Serena let her? Well, there had been no harm in asking if they were friends, why would there be any harm asking for a hug? S-Serena? Is it okay if I hug you?

Serena smiled back at Faun as she managed to stop crying and she squeezed the S'kytri's hand. She probably hadn't done much to help, but she must have helped a little, right? Then Faun asked if she could hug Serena, and after a few seconds of thought, she nodded. Serena didn't hug people very much, but that was mostly because her friends weren't the hugging type back home.
She let go of Faun's hand so she could wrap her arms around the S'kytri girl."It's all right, Faun. I promise I'll never make fun of your wings, OK?"They were friends now, so Serena doubted that she would make fun of Faun now, but maybe it helped to reassure her?

Faun was happy to see Serena nod, and, strange as it might seem, it was probably one of the happiest moments in her life. As Serena wrapped her arms around her, Faun wrapped her own around Serena; even her wings curled around them both instinctively. Faun smiled and enjoyed the moment; it did indeed feel very comforting, uplifting even, sharing affection with another living being. She felt better already, and even sighed a little.
The moment was made even better when Serena made a promise to never make fun of her wings. Faun closed her eyes and beamed, trying to fight back fresh tears of joy as she hugged her friend. Th-thanks, Serena! After a moment, though, she wondered if she'd maybe been hugging her too long. Hastily releasing her, she set her hands in her lap and blushed a little, stammering out an apology. Er, s-sorry if I was hugging you too long...

Serena giggled as Faun suddenly released her, and she shook her head as the S'kytri girl apologized for hugging her for too long."No, it's OK!"Serena stood up, checking her chronometer. Dinner would be soon and after that, Marc was gonna call her on her comm so she had to get ready for that too."I should probably get going. Let's play again really soon, OK?"

Faun let a sigh of relief escape her lips when Serena said it was okay that she had hugged her for so long. Now, however, Serena checked the time and announced she had to go, but invited Faun to play again later, "really soon." Faun perked up, stood, and beamed, nodding immediately. Yeah! I'd love to! Maybe Knita can come too! That would be nice, and it could probably be a good opportunity for Knita to help learn Basic; Faun was still trying to teach it to her little by little, even though the Felucian could never speak it, but since Faun normally spoke to her via her innate talents, it probably wasn't as effective as it could otherwise be.
Oh! Faun was almost forgetting her manners. She straightened and gave Serena a little bow, standing and smiling. It was nice to meet you, Serena.

Serena grinned and nodded."That sounds good! I hope we can play soon!"She smiled returned Faun's little bow, figuring she may as well be polite to a worthy tag opponent."Nice meeting you too, Faun! See you later!"With that, Serena turned and headed out of the gardens.

Leaves whispered in slight breezes and the sun warmed the earth. Screams echoed in the halls. Ambient sounds of life rippled all around her. Pain blinded her as she fought to escape. The Force, amplified through the teeming life surrounding her, swirled in strong currents, pulling and pushing. Someone called out her name. Where was she?
Kory. Stop daydreaming. I gave you an assignment. Kory opened her eyes and looked down at the dark tunnels sentients used as streets. What was she doing again? Hunting, right. What else would she be doing? Sometimes there were days when she thought that she lived two different lives, like one mind inhabiting two very different bodies in two separate realities. Kory slipped from the hole in the building as silent as a shadow and melted into the many faces that called this level home. With mercs and bounty hunters prowling around all the time, it wasn't unusual to see someone clad from head to toe in armor. The voice in her ear spoke again. You still with me?
Adelle opened her eyes and stared up at the Felucian sky. She felt tired, and even though meditation supposedly helped center one's self, she felt very disoriented. What was she supposed to be doing? She remembered having a purpose but things felt foggy. As if she'd just woke up from a dream. Adelle uncrossed her legs then stood and headed inside. Oh well. Maybe food would spark her memory.

This was, without a doubt, her favourite spot in the base.
The wonderful thing about organics was their randomness. There was always the chance that they would break routine on a whim. She enjoyed watching people walk, watching them interact with others, watching what made each of them so unique. She had been here a while now, and her mindset was still young, despite being a vastly intelligent AI. And so, despite her artificial origins, she still enjoyed beauty in form and nature.
Today found the entity known as LE-02 seated on one of the stone benches around the central fountain, staring at the streams of water cascading from the center. Her creator had been good enough at what she was doing to be able to program a proper appreciation of randomness and variables: the various gusts of air, the forces with which the water burst forth from the pump, everything that came together to make a new and unique waterfall with every passing moment. She truly enjoyed cataloging it all.
Her body was still relatively new, and it was a big difference from being inside a starship's memory core. Luckily, she and her sisters had been programmed for this sort of operation.
Sighing -- a relatively pointless gesture, but one she had picked up on nonetheless -- she laid back on the bench, watching the water flow.

*Life in the base was a lot brighter for Jake after that heart-to-heart with his dad; no longer had his days been overshadowed by the constant subtle fear that he and Morgan were being replaced by his new baby sister. And it was actually quite nice to be able to be close to the baby and not feel uneasy around her. They were a family after all, and the last thing he wanted to do was shun a new member.
It also meant he could focus on his lessons easier; he had felt like his performance had been slipping a bit during all this, but once more he began to feel confident in his classes and training. But he still needed breaks sometimes, and they were usually spent in places he could relax and clear his head, like the gardens, so peaceful and tranquil.
He entered the gardens and immediately felt at ease. Morgan may disagree with him, but Jake liked the gardens more than being in the jungle. The jungle could be fun and exciting, yes, but the gardens were much more controlled and peaceful, meaning he didn't need to have his wits about him to survive and instead he could just sit and relax. He smiled and entered further, looking for a calm place to sit and take it easy for a little bit. Preferably by a fountain, those were always nice; the sounds of water were pretty relaxing.
The first fountain he came across, however, was occupied by someone. He almost turned around and sought out another before he realized who was sitting there: Lana, or... well, he forgot the designation, but the AI girl. He remembered meeting her for the first time... when "she" was a floating cylindrical unit that could only speak in... robot code or something. And now she had been given her own, very humanlike body.
Jake had been fascinated by her, her very realistic body, speech, and emotions. She was pretty much a real person, and while he had heard about intelligent AI that could emulate sentient emotions, he had never seen one before her. Perhaps that was why he was so fascinated. And perhaps he should stop staring at her and go say hi to her.
He shook his head, stammering slightly, and approached her with a smile.* Hi Lana! How are you?

"Hey Jake."
Her response came several seconds before she turned around to look at him, a tiny smile on her face. Of course she already knew he was there and who he was; her HRD body was outfitted with almost as much technology as she could fit in it, and that included a sensor suite. She was used to being in charge of a starship, and she had insisted that she maintain that level of freedom with her new body.
"I'm alright. Enjoying the fountain. It's.. calming."
By that she meant that it was occupying her thought processes as much as any one thing could.
"What are you up to?"
