*As the details came, Aerandir and Morgan both absorbed them, but for entirely different reasons. Of course, both were curious about the girl named Kent's origins, Aerandir more so, considering she could likely end up a student of this facility; an important detail to the headmaster.
And that led to Caoimhin Shan, their current captive. Aerandir's small epiphany in the medical facilities had led to some quick research between then and now. Obviously, the most shocking thing was that the sister, Eliana Shan, was supposed to be dead, but clearly that wasn't the case. Apart from that, she was apparently apprenticed to one Aherk Formidonis... not the most reputable of figures. That, and her technological capabilities were her two most-notable traits; as suspected, she was in fact the creator of both LE units that now presently inhabited these halls.
Caoimhin's, by comparison, was far less colorful. Wrestling for many years on and off with the dark side, presumably because of a split personality, most recently under the tutelage of Rutil Iorek... curiously, Na'an had not used the "Master" honorific with him, despite her present demeanor. A note for later.
Na'an continued to detail the encounter, as well as what little info she had managed to gather on the two Shans presently, information the public records wouldn't have. Apparently, it had been quite gruesome to say the least, as well as taxing on Adelle. This bit Morgan absorbed possibly more than Aerandir, which was no surprise, though the details were interestingly minimal. Na'an's report concluded with the doubt that either Shan could act for anything other than their own gain, endangering others in the way to assure that.
Silence fell as he considered their present whereabouts: Detained, with at least a Nelvaanian standing guard in the area. For now, they would be no threat, and yet...* "What would you have the Council do?" *It was no request for guidance, for he was fully aware of what action the Council should take, but more a probe for a reaction, a verdict. The answer could be telling, if she had one.*

*It was quite an honor, being allowed to witness an actual report from a Jedi to a Master, but while Morgan recognized that, she still seemed more interested for the sake of knowing more about what happened to her mama on Nar Shaddaa. Selfish? Maybe, but it was her mama! Morgan wanted to know more about what happened to her, what went on there, and if Na'an's story would be any different than what Mama had told her in her office.
The story, however, was a lot darker than what was led on. A fight against criminal thugs in a bar? A Sith killing several people with lightning? Air support? Morgan had known something had gone down, but not to this extent. When Na'an made it to the part about her mama, Morgan's eyes briefly widened before she grew increasingly attentive...
... but she said hardly anything about her. They encountered her, she'd apparently been recruited under false pretenses, and she tried fighting while exhausted despite being outnumbered. And near death. Morgan had already known this, but it didn't stop her from gasping softly at the thought anyway before she withdrew into her own mind for a moment. Na'an had made it sound shockingly neutral, as though she had simply just worn herself out trying to fight. Mama, however, had given her the full details by comparison: The healing, the constant aid to others, the being torn apart... scaring Na'an...
Morgan's head lowered and her eyes studied the ground as she continued her quiet contemplation of all this, becoming disinterested in the rest of the report. Irresponsible? Yes. But this piece of the story, coupled with Mama's, made Morgan wonder about just how often this happened. Not just to Mama, but Jedi in general. Must one make the difficult decision to forgo overexertion of the Force in order to stay on their own feet and fight another day? Or should they always choose to save as many as they can, no matter the potential cost... ? Morgan could appreciate the latter, but...
... she wasn't planning on losing another mother...*

"Me?" Na'an finally met Master Calmcacil's eyes, looking frustrated. "Begging your pardon, Master, but my desires shouldn't factor into this. The Shans and I...we have far too much history for me to make any kind of fair decision." Her hands reflexively balled into fists on her knees, the knuckles whiting with the strain. "I've given the those two my trust too many times, and had it broken each time I did. They've attacked me, lied to me, and this time there were innocents in the line of fire, all because they're too absorbed in each other to give a damn who they hurt.
I'm...furious, sir. Even now. If I was the one passing judgement neither of them would see sunlight or each other again. So...I shouldn't be the one passing judgement. It wouldn't be justice, coming from me."

*Na'an's frustrations were more than audible, and it was clear this situation and more affected her deeply. But it was her steadfast resolve that her input shouldn't matter that stood out to Aerandir. Yes, she'd answered, but he had a feeling it was only because she asked; she quite obviously held her superiors in high regard, despite Aerandir's desire to speak on a level field with others.
He nodded to her with a faint smile, responding,* "You have a good sense of what's right. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Er, well, more the fact that you feel unqualified to pass fair judgment, that is. The Council will determine what to do with them, though we may need you to serve as witness. Is there anything else you need to report?"

"No, Master Calmcacil." Na'an ducked her head again, the flush of embarrassment returning. "Although if I could be so bold as to ask, ah, to be told what the Council's decision will be once it is made? I will be staying until my ship returns, and while I'm here...it's kind of my fault that you have to deal with them."

*Na'an had nothing further to add other than a request to be informed of the verdict, whenever that happened, and again blamed herself for the trouble. With a small smile, Aerandir gently set his hand on her shoulder.* "You're just doing your duty, as will we. It's what Jedi do." *Letting his hand fall from her shoulder, he concluded,* "If there's anything else you need, Morgan will know how to find me. I'll go contact the Council and determine the next step." *He gave her a short bow and a smile to Morgan before turning and exiting the Council Chambers.*

Na'an kept her back rigid and her eyes on the floor until she heard the Master's footfalls fade. When the room was finally silent again, the following motion was complete and sudden--the young woman's body seemed to melt into itself, relaxing into a ball with her forehead brushing her knees. A loud, relieved exhale exuded from the ball. "That was...easier than I thought," Na'an said a few breaths later, finally unfolding herself into a normal seated position and stretching her back. "Master Calmcacil's kinder than he needs to be, you know."
When Morgan didn't respond immediately, Na'an paused mid-stretch. The little girl had not moved from where she'd stationed herself when the Master came in, looking first at her feet, than the far wall. The smile that seemed to be typical for her had been replaced with a distracted expression, with one cheek sunken in where she was clearly chewing on it.
The prickly flush on Na'an's neck had faded, just enough for another resurgence to show. She rubbed at it, at a loss as to how to respond. "I've said something to worry you?" she asked lamely, as if it were not already apparent that she had.

*Morgan remained in her own world of thought, only half registering the conversation. Something about punishment for the Shan people, but she wasn't sure. She only looked up briefly when Daddy announced he was leaving, gave him a quick forced smile and nod, then lowered her head again. Her only response when Na'an deemed him "kinder than he needs to be" was a halfhearted nod.
She finally snapped out of it when Na'an asked if something she had said worried her, causing her to look up suddenly with wide eyes, captive flesh freed from between her teeth. Her instinct was to shake her head, but she stopped midway through. Reluctantly, she nodded, explaining,* "I was just wondering how hard it must be to want to save everyone, even if you can't, or it just hurts you a lot instead..."

At Morgan's words, the confusion and embarrassment faded from Na'an's face, leaving a grave, sad look--an old look.
"I wish I'd thought about those sorts of things at your age," she said, pushing herself to her feet. "It's a hard line to find, to be sure. It's hard to know how much good a life is worth until it's spent--and people like your mama give theirs up for so much less than they deserve." She looked around at the empty room, as if looking for something hidden in one of the distant, shadowed corners. "Then again, other people don't have the decency to die when that's the only way to even the books."

*Morgan absorbed that info, wondering just how fast the time would come that she herself would be forced to make such a decision. Then again, perhaps she already had? By stepping in to save Ambar's life, a man that, perhaps, had every right to die, she had rescued not only his body, but his soul... and he'd gone on to rescue many himself.
At the time though, Morgan hadn't been thinking about that! She'd just wanted the fighting to stop; that had been the first domino in changing the Sith's life.
Na'an also added a bit about how some didn't have the "decency" to die to "even the books." Morgan's brows furrowed at that. What did that mean? Bad guys? Or self-sacrifice? She didn't understand any of it, wanted to, but was of now unable.* "How can you know?" *she blurted out with a hint of desperation.* "How do you know when you're supposed to save someone, or let them die, or..." *She fell silent for a moment, as though reluctant to complete that thought. Then, with the slightest trace of fear, she concluded,* "... or give it all away?"

"Miss, you're asking someone who literally just now disowned someone I would have died for a few days ago. If I had an answer, believe me, I'd tell you." Na'an crossed the distance between them and crouched a little, just enough to put her face to face with Morgan. She met the little girl's sudden anxiety with a smile that did not reach her eyes.
"We all do the best we can when the moment comes," she continued. "But until then, the best thing any one person can do, I guess, is learn to see themselves honestly. Good, bad, all of it." She reached out to pat Morgan's head, dodging the little animal clinging to the girl's shoulder, then stood straight again. "That way, when the time comes when you're asked to...give it all away....you'll at least be able to guess if you'll be getting a good deal."

*Morgan felt foolish for expecting a simple answer, but Na'an was doing her best to be encouraging. It wasn't entirely helping, considering her confession that someone she thought she would have died for ended up being disowned by her. In fact, it almost made Morgan feel worse, despite Na'an's attempts to level with her and even smile at her; she even felt a little patronized at the head pat, though Lokay did little more than curiously sniff at the hand.*
"I hope so," *was Morgan's only response.*

"Yeah. Me too."
The light was fading slowly in the Council Chambers, and with it the warmth stored in the wall stones. Na'an shivered, then turned back to Morgan. "You hungry? I owe you one for showing me how to get here."

*The conversation still hung over Morgan's mind like a shadow, where it seemed she wouldn't get any clear answers. Not particularly unexpected, but no less disappointing. Still, when offered food, she couldn't help but realize her stomach was about as hungry as her mind. She nodded meekly, a tiny smile crossing her lips as she added,* "I'm sure Lokay's hungry too." *It drew a reaction from him, recognizing the word "hungry" as having something to do with food, causing him to sniff about curious and even lick his beak in anticipation.*

This time, Na'an's smile was genuine. A few steps took her back to the door, which she palmed open. Then she waited for the little girl, framed in the hallway light. "Well, then, let's move this conversation to the kitchens. My Master once told me it's easier to speak your mind over a meal, and I haven't eaten all day."

*As the war against the First Order unfolded, and both sides began to expand their reaches, the Council had remained coordinated with the rest of the Order and the so-nicknamed "Rebel Alliance." But the enemy had one seemingly-major advantage: With a centralized government and source of leadership, it as easier to coordinate amongst their own.*
"That is why the military and political figureheads of the Alliance wish to restructure into something more formal," *reported Master Jule Danbor, the Skakoan female.
The Councilors were aware of this, and had thus been called to discuss this potential organization. Though Aerandir had been the one to call the free worlds together into an Alliance initially, actual leadership had been left to the independent worlds and their military leaders, with Jedi advisory and collaboration. A sort of makeshift "Alliance Council" had been formed among those leaders, but the war had only proved the need for a true centralized leadership. Despite the fact that the Alliance had formed without intent to restore the Republic, Aerandir found himself agreeing with this notion.*
"They're proposing making this 'Alliance' a more official government, that is, the 'Galactic Alliance,'" *he supplied.* "They're looking for a more open and transparent source of leadership, with a figurehead, but one that doesn't have seemingly-absolute power like the Chancellor of the Republic. It's a solid proposal, and necessary in these dark times."
"Perhaps the Jedi should follow their example," *Master Tookli Yandar, a male Chadra-Fan, suggested.*
"What do you mean?"
*Master Yandar spread his arms.* "Perhaps the Jedi Order needs a figurehead, a public face of the Order."
*Aerandir quietly contemplated this for a moment, knowing what the Chadra-Fan was suggesting. It had been so many years since the Jedi Order's last, ultimately failed attempt at a unified Order, with their own Grand Master. But said Grand Master had been murdered mere weeks later, shaking the Order, proving their unification efforts, at least at the time, in vain. But time was all they needed; the Order flourished under a single banner now. Was it the time... ?*
"Yes..." *he mused aloud, before looking up.* "Perhaps so. A symbol of the Order, one whom all can look to as a beacon of hope, not just for the Order, but to the galaxy." *His eyes scanned his eleven fellow Councilors, all deserving of their position, all experienced, wise, and skilled Jedi.* "It'll be a tough choice though. It could be any of you."

As I am, at present, involved in an investigation on another world, I am able to attend this latest meeting of the Council in holographic image only; technology enabling me to hear all that is discussed as well as participate. As is frequently my custom, I limit my contribution to the matters being explored, at first, to mere listening carefully; though in this particular instance I feel the need to add my own thoughts sooner than has been the case in the past given that I have pondered the matter of selecting a figurehead for the Jedi Order often enough to feel confident in sharing those thoughts.
Perhaps, I begin, leaning forward on another world so that my holographic image, projected into the council chambers on Felucia as though seated amongst my fellow Councilors, leans forward there to give the flickering blue image of me an additional sense of being present, the choice is more obvious, if not at first to you Aerandir, than certainly to me, than it seems. Lifting my right hand to gesture towards Aerandir, I smile as I begin my explanation by noting, Your humility is admirable, Aerandir, but I believe that if you can set it aside and consider your guidance and leadership in all that has transpired of late, not only with the Alliance, but also with the Jedi Order itself, you will find that you need look no further for the ideal symbol of the Jedi Order, and beacon of hope for the Order and the galaxy as well, than the nearest mirror. Were that unclear in any way, I state it again, only with a conscious air of solemnity, far more brevity, and without as much verbal ornament, I nominate Aerandir for Grandmaster of the Jedi Order.
Supporting argument, in my opinion, is not strictly required in this particular instance given how I suspect all here have witnessed Aerandir's growth and maturation into the gifted leader he has become, but forms at times need be maintained and respecter, and so I support my nomination by continuing, I believe, personally speaking, that electing Aerandir as Grandmaster is in many ways merely acknowledging that he has already been acting in that capacity for some time now. We are all familiar with his efforts to bring the free worlds together, as well as with how he has ever been a voice of reason and wisdom in any Jedi Order Council discussions. I conclude by asserting, Aerandir is known and highly respected, not only within the Jedi Order, but also, thanks to his efforts to bring them together, among the leaders of the free worlds; and would therefore make an ideal Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, one who could be that beacon of light for the Order and the galaxy.

Rawkill had managed to find some time between First Knowledge business and lending aide to a small handful of Alliance raids, to make his way to Felucia. It was one of many rare occurrences. He preferred to leave such business to Master's Sacuru, Giselle, and Jajamal. But then, the entire council was very rarely convened in such a matter. Thus, it had demanded his participation. He sat and listened as Master Danbor made her report into the changing mood of the Alliance. While he did not agree with the idea of a central government having too much power, after the likes of the Republic, Empire, and the First Order. He could hope that this Galactic Alliance would avoid the pitfalls of such governments.
His attention quickly turned to Aerandir and Master Yandor as the pair discussed the possibility of reinstating the title of Grand Master. Never in his time with the Jedi Order had a Grand Master been appointed. It was something he had always found strange. There had been many famous Grand Masters in the past. Such as Luke Skywalker and Yoda. In fact, several of the smaller conclaves around the galaxy either had or still had Grand Masters. Either people capable of leading the order, or through sheer mastery of skills. There were many such candidates on this council. But there was only one that fit the bill. And Serrin read his mind as she nominated Aerandir.
He had needed no convincing on the matter. As far as he was concerned, the human had occupied the role for the past several years. At least in an unofficial capacity. He looked around the room then, watching as the other assembled Jedi Masters nodded in agreement. He turned his attention back to Aerandir. Indeed, the man was far too humble for his own good sometimes. But if the whole council agreed, he had no choice but to accept I must second the nomination of Master Calmcacil. Many of us here have turned to you in times of need, and you have never let us, or the Order, down. We have waited a long time to do this, and make official, that which we already know to be true. If any should oppose this, speak now... there was a moment of silence, during which none of the other Masters said a thing. They knew the path that the Jedi had to take. The force would have alerted them if this was the wrong choice I believe that should convince you, Master Calmcacil... So, what say you?

*Aerandir looked towards Serrin when she spoke of an "obvious" choice, which had him fully attentive; he fully respected the Twi'lek Jedi, after her service and all she had been through, and no doubt she'd have the perfect candidate in mind— Him?! Aerandir had a reputation for never showing shock on the outside, but considering the gravity of the discussion and the proposal given, he could not stop his eyes from going at least a little wide at the notion.
And then she made it official, verbally nominating him as Grand Master of the Jedi Order.
He was truly speechless, though his mind worked rapidly even as she continued to list her reasoning for doing so. Everything she had stated was a fact, but as far as he had been concerned, he was only doing his duty to the Order and to the galaxy. If that was her reasoning, then he could only again argue that everyone here was just as capable. But where she had the most point, he had to admit, was that he was definitely the most publicly known, especially among the "leaders of the free worlds." But did that equate to leadership ability... ?
And then Rawkill added his two credits, agreeing and even preemptively challenging any objections Aerandir might have had by asking for the other Councilors to speak up, should they object. There was silence. Master Yandar grinned. Master Danbor leaned back in her chair, expression hidden, but her confident posture readable. All of them felt this way. If eleven Jedi Masters, all appointed to the highest seat of the Order, all felt he was capable of his task, then what were his own objections worth?
He sighed, then smirked.* "Guess it's hard to argue with that. I'd say I was just doing my job, but—"
"Have you not been leader of not only this Base for some time, but the Academy of Belkadan and the Temple of Deralia as well?" *Master Yandar reminded him.*
"Well yes, but those are individual establishments, not the entire Order."
"It shows you have the prior experience necessary," *Master Danbor suggested.* "I think Master Roma is more than right that the choice is cl— *zzrt*" *The Skakoan adjusted the dials on her suit, muttering once she returned her vocoder back to normal.* "Always at the worst times. Clear! Choice is clear!"
*Aerandir smiled, closing his eyes and shaking his head in amusement, before looking up.* "If that's the way it's going to be then... very well. I accept."
