Actually, it was done that way to step away from the ways of 1.0, quite purposefully.

Eh the idea has merit, although I say just give make the fleets GR and make the GR give jedi the ability to call on military units as needed... but that's just me.

Well, I've been looking for a logical reason to transfer the Yavin fleets to the Republic pretty much since we wrote the constitution, IC wise. I just wanted to go with something a little more interesting than the options I had at the time - running out of money. Because economics - yawn.
The Mando attack, and the devastation to the Yavin fleets that it causes (I'm loosing something like half the fleet under my name - conveniently bringing my forces down to the new fleet allowance level! Though I always planned to lose roughly that much even before the fleet levels lowered), serves as the perfect excuse for us to say "the old Eastern Rim Alliance coffers are empty, and we not in a position to rebuild the taskforce after this much loss on the funds raised from the Gordian Reach alone. Time for us to throw in with the Republic."
Ultimately, it's because there was no Republic to give us money and resources and the such that we had to come up with these crazy schemes to begin with.
I still like the idea of a special peacekeeping taskforce with a more roaming remit, though.

Like I said I don't mind the idea.. the only thing is that this "taskforce" will have more ships than the entire rest of the GR fleet. haha

Ok, Im gonna be rather blunt about this.
I took and folded one of the largest, most powerful lightsided factions into the Jedi Order, and the Republic. It wasn't that difficult to do....the same people still run the fleets, they just do so for the Republic...and are based on Honoghr. It wasn't a big deal. My biggest suggestion would be to make a true NPC commander for the fleets, and not have our main Jedi PCs command them unless they are in charge of said task force for a mission.
The Jedi Task Force idea -is- awesome....but for once, the Drunk Corellian has a point...itll be larger than the GR fleets and armies themselves.....

As far as the fleet things, I've actually always been writing them as belonging to a separate military group that was affiliated with Aerandir, with their own NPC commander and everything, so for me, that's nothing different. Whether or not I could have all those guys suddenly become part of a big GA taskforce thing I'll have to think about, but they've been an independent group pretty much.

It wasn't difficult to do, Adi, and was very easily justified IC, because Honoghr joined the Republic. Yavin doesn't have a civilian population, it's not eligible for representation in the Senate, therefore it's fleets are not automatically adopted by the Republic military like a populated world. So story wise, I wanted a bigger push; the Mando attack is it.
They'll be Republic fleets. But the fleets under my command - and likewise, I imagine, the fleets under a few other Yavin Jedi's command - will be Republic fleets assigned to a special taskforce with that roaming remit. That's just the way I want - or rather, so that I don't have to re-plan half of my characters and storylines, need - to write them. Simply making them Republic fleets the same as any other doesn't work for me or Yavin's, because the other difference is we use our fleets in a different way to most people on JvS, and have characters within them that serve a different purpose to most military NPCs.
Heck, there's still the fact that I don't know if Ronan will even agree to having his fleet turned over to the Republic IC. He's not convinced by our closer relationship with the Republic storylines.
But yes, they'll be Republic Fleets. Moving on.

Actually Will if you look at the post order... he was reffering to the post I made just before his... so you may have a council seat but I still have the "Drunk Corellian" position. You will never take away the one and only thing I can call my very own. haha

We are special.
Whether it's the good or not-so-good kind of special is up to long and ultimately resolution-less debate.

They Alliance has tons of ships. Arguably an inexhaustible supply.
The catch is, no one writes 'em. So the argument that the task force would outnumber the GA in size is pointless; just because we have writers andthe alliance itself is severely limited in that department ddoesn't mean we should weaken our defense capabilities. I'm completely proposing this as a means of legitimizing Jedi fleet usage. Making another account just for the purpose of fleet rp is... eh, it isn't practical.
