The Raven almost sighed.... This was an open universe - was it not? He cared little for mortal chains which did not - could not - bind him. But these people really needed to loosen up. Was this not an open universe, free to wanderers to enjoy. Morrígu wanted to move. That simple. But she listened quietly. Ciaran was smart. Very. Her eyes fell on Boland -Boland- "Well I already have my mind set.... And I can pilot this beast." Maureen looked at them talk taking in everything With all seemingly stuck in animated suspension Morrígu stood and walked over to the co-pilot's seat and parked herself. Boland followed seconds later, himself taking the pilot's station and fired the ship up. They lifted off and moved

Descending from the sky a small freighter landed almost on a dime from where it had lifted off. The hatch dropping open a massive dog ran out bouncing up and down it waited. First Boland walked out followed by Maureen. Morrígu descended next. The child proclaimed -Maureen- "Ciaran named him! Ku Fowl!!!"

Next came Ciarán and Laoch walking slowly behind the rest. They joined the gathering around the dog. Hearing the girl both laughed. Ciarán nodded to Laoch -Ciarán- "Hear that? The name for the wolfhound is... wolfhound." Both gigled -Ciarán- "Kid, don't allow me to take any blame, did I say that? Credit. That's what I meant. Credit is the word. Let's not allot any credit upon me where you are guilty, I mean deserving" Fast learning by example lesson in terrible smooth talking delivered Ciarán stroked the immaculate beast under the chin

Mindless exchange born of monotony having run out of steam long before, Morrígu spoke -Morrígu- "Ok. I'm taking Cú Faoil for a walk. Which also means the girl." Eyes turning to her right -Morrígu- "And The Raven...." Looking up at the three men with wide eyes -Morrígu- "Could you three try and do something aside hold up the walls that you're leaning against while we're gone?" Not awaiting and answer she walked away leading the dog. The Raven perched on her shoulder glared at the men. Maureen followed. After she was some distance away Boland said -Boland- "What's next?"

Quiet for some time Laoch abruptly exclaimed -Laoch- "Have you given my point of how much we can reel in off cleaning products on this rock?" Reaching up and pulling at hair Ciarán responded -Ciarán- "We're on Juvex.... Got it? Not javex!"

Both men lit cigarettes. Ciarán asked -Ciarán- "Did you see the size of that thing?" Shaking head he laughed -Ciarán- "Gonna need an army just to feed that monster." Laoch nodded -Laoch- "Feed an army to the dog... that's cold." Eyes afire Ciarán glared at Laoch. Leaning in close -Ciarán- "I mean to hunt for food fool!" Laughing -Ciarán- "Oh! You was starting to sound like the Old man." Laoch began to cackle with him on that sick point

As the banter between the group rolls on a woman, Briget Nommad, worked diligently on the YT-1300 light freighter. What she and her crew have in mind is a complete overhaul. Much is to be left standing on what is a fine model but innovative changes are also necessary. A modification here, another there. An odd crew of techies earnestly wade into aiding her

Morrígu and Maureen, their constitutional finished, arrived back with Cú Faoil. They stood back aloof yet close enough to hear. Boland stood with the men. He commented -Boland- "Pretty tight out there."

Laoch quietly nodded in a agreement. Ciarán responded quickly -Ciarán- "Common with empire building; people get so balled up in conquest that they forget that an open, functioning universe is what butters their bread." Quickly adding -Ciarán- "Happens to the best of us, in spite of the repeated folly of such illustrated in history." Laoch shruged his shoulders -Laoch- "We might act the same." Ciarán gave a clear look of acknowledgement to that point "

Cú Faoil bounced up and down a few times but none replied. The hound wondered about what came from their mouths. Of course it was impossible for an animal with such simple needs to comprehend the magnitude of human stupidity and greed. If the hound wanted food it found food then ate; if the hound tired then it slept. And so on and so forth down the line. Simply perfect. Humans complicated everything

Ciarán looked at the group. Speaking with them was baffling; one minute they talked but a few seconds later you'd be lucky to get a peep pulling nails. He tried to fathom an eternity with this lot and shuddered. Laoch looked on aimlessly thinking intensely, about absolutely nothing. Looking at the dog Ciarán spoke -Ciarán- "You know that thing might be the only one of it's kind left...." Turning his eyes meeting all in a sweep -Ciarán- "I mean dogs of his breed. The rest may be... extinct." He rolled over the bitter irony of those words falling from his lips and straight on to a question -Ciarán- "When you people get bored of doing nothing tell me about the Otherworld." Laoch looked up to the question

Morrígu struggled with the question for a long moment. Brows dropping she spoke slowly -Morrígu- “Well… the Netherworld, which An Tiarna mistook for Netherlands and kept asking spirits ‘Sprechst du Deutsch?’" Boland lowered his head muffling laughter -Morrígu- “Tis really quite nicely organized.” Clearing her throat -Morrígu- “You have The Valley of the Dead… big battlefield… ugly place.” Hand sweeping the crowd -Morrígu- “They claim that all pass by it but I think it to be the place of lost souls.” Chin up Morrígu- "And a divine battlefield.” Eyes going hard and voice sullen -Morrígu- “Then you have Chaos, where all the tortured Dark dwell.” Passing by that with a fast one, two punch at the air -Morrígu- “Manda is the room allotted to the Mando warriors.” A frustrated look now sweeping her face -Morrígu- “Next you have The Living Force, which in An Tiarna’s opinion was ‘one fine choice of a bloody name of a place to house the dead’, for those Grey in nature.” Carrying on in a pacific tone -Morrígu- “And lastly, there’s Harmony…. Beautiful. Just stunning.” Looking up with a smile -Morrígu- “That’s where we went…. Boland and I myself.” Taking the girl’s hand -Morrígu- “Then Maureen came.” Sighing deeply -Morrígu- “Lastly the Old man arrived. Violent man really but quite charming.” Maureen cut in -Maureen- “He let me blow Boland up!” And that paused the story as even Boland laughed. Some would say that they noticed the dog laugh. Morrígu shot a glance at the man and firmly stated -Morrígu- "Don't encourage her please."

Laoch, mouth open listened. Ciarán too stood still spellbound by the woman’s engaging description of the afterlife. He stiffened up with some details; smiled at others. Of course the outrageous opinions and misdeeds of the Old man that she spoke of made him smile and be filled with a deeply penetrating bitterness all at once. A mental image of him handing a grenade to Maureen then another of poor Boland blown to pieces passed his mind. Laoch finally spoke both of their minds -Laoch- “They stuck him in a place called Harmony?” Both men laughed hysterically. Laoch finally sloped over, unable to contain himself -Ciarán- “There ain't a damn thing harmonious about that man.” Laoch now standing abd breathing into a bag added in a gagging voice -Laoch- “Love the fella or not, you had to think that he’d be one who ended ip burning eternally in the Lake of Fire .” Both Ciarán and himself burst out laughed again -Laoch- “Hope for us yet brother.” The two bellowed more. Finally pulling himself together Ciarán stated solemnly -Ciarán- "Indeed a very benevolent Creator rules over us all." Both Laoch and himself nodded deep -Ciarán- “Much thanks dear,” Looking to the side he asked -Ciarán- "Were any others of our kind there?" The laughter stopped so abruptly it felt like a needle being dragged across a vinyl record. Laoch caught Morrígu with a piercing stare

Maureen listened. She was young. Too young for much of what she had been through or witnessed. Thankfully she was strong willed and outspoken. Many would, indeed did, claim it ‘bold.’ Of course The Old man would have asked, no demanded why it is that they denounce children for being such but sing songs of bold heroes. She thought the Old man walked on water and she spoke up -Maureen- "I like An Tiarna!" On top of that Morrígu said -Morrígu- "To be sure I scarcely think that any haven't heard of the violence but he was shockingly philanthropic, at least so legend tells."Boland fielded the question Ciaran presented -Boland- "Not to my recollection but the memory of it all is fuzzy really."

Briget was convinced that they could do a great deal with the ship and indeed had poured herself into souping the beast up. As she worked the mind flooded with the possibilities. She truly loved her work. The hyperdrive engine had been modified to enhance performance. Tom Dicknharri and Chewtobacco had a field day toying with that baby and the two were still attending to fine detail. The ship was now capable of moving considerably faster than before. Abyssin with the aid of several droids worked diligently at the ships weapons and defensive hardware. Sophisticated smuggling compartments were also created throughout the ship. Briget now stood back from the ship wiping sweat from her brow with a cloth. At a distance she played out the renovations that had been completed in her head. Her team was doing a fine job. A smile crossed her lips

As Briget laboured Morrígu thought carefully. Which was more taxing is open to interpretation. What Morrígu thought of was simple: what next? She wrestled fiercely with the question without betraying any outward signal of her inner struggle. The Ryn entered these thoughts. Extraordinary people she believed. Then it struck her and she smiled. It was all so basic no wonder the whole subject transformed into a philosophical enigma wrapping great thinkers in knots. The key to control was not how hard one hung onto something but rather the act of letting go. And this simple action was what she wished to accomplish. It was impossible not to see the humour in this conclusion. Now how would a universe driven by possession react? She was far too shrewd assume the answer others might give. The Raven sat on her shoulder waiting

It was Laoch who caught the look in the eyes of Morrígu. He voiced his opinion as he looked into the window to the soul of the woman. -Laoch- “You can near see the smoke coming from her ears as the wheels turn….” Ciarán turned and asked -Ciarán- “What gives?” Both, heads cocked to the right waited

The woman could feel the heat as blood dilated capillaries and her face went rose. Fighting the reaction only intensified the blush. Boland, beside her looked straight ahead. As the adults played Maureen pranced about with the dog playing with what had once been on of Morrígu's slippers. Not anymore. Laughing she pulled at the heel of the slipper as Cú Faoil pulled. Carefully pulling, or the girl would be tossed around like a rag doll. On they played. The girl could feel that something strange was up but said nothing, except to the hound. Leaning in she whispered -Maureen- “Cú Faoil, I’m going to teach you to duck.... Ok?" Laughing she pulled the slipper more as the hound gently tugged, let go, snatched the toe up and they started again. She leaned to an ear again -Maureen-
"I think.... Somebody is going to get shot.” The hound heard the girl's words. And he didn't have a clue what she said. But he could smell the fear. She was frightened and quiet and he in turn became keenly alert. Her family was to the front. They might be starving. Suspiciously the hound eyed the group. Shaking that away but not gone he turned attention fast to the new group behind them. Casually positioning himself between her and the strangers. The animals with droids. But he kept watch on her family too. Now fight or flight flashed through his mind. Snatch her up and run or rip the throat out of anything that came near. All this rolled along through his mind as he toyed gently with the girl. In a microsecond he elected for the throat tearing option. If necessary. On they played, both fighting off the smell of fear.... And then it was gone Among the adults the one with the Raven on her shoulder spoke -Morrígu- "I see… I see peaks of steel and concrete with paved canyons drawn around their feet. I see a deluge of curing water teeming with sharks and… and I see a city on planet that once housed slavers." She looked up shrugging

Laoch looked vacantly as he absorbed the words Morrígu spoke. Ciarán responded immediately -Ciarán- “Do yourself a favor and don’t try and make a living off that sorry excuse for cryptic verse.”
