Utapau's orbitThe Imperial Star Destroyer Vanguard smoothly exited hyperspace and transitioned to sublight speeds, intent on making headway toward another brown and blotchy-looking planet."Welcome to Utapau, Lord Tysabaar. Your earlier observations were accurate. We will need to secure a stronger foothold in the galaxy, a wider base of operations, before we can press the enemy in earnest." Klaxons wailed. The bridge was bathed in the sickly yellow glare combat lights that made the displays glow luridly, spilling out threat assessments to the gunners. Utapau was under attack by a particularly vicious pirate group that had grown fat from plundering the helpless planet. When traders learnt to avoid the planet, the pirates had resorted to extortion, driving the shaky economy into bankruptcy. Now all that was left was to take the planet, it's people and resources. The Republic had once defended Utapau and look how well that had worked out for them. There was a brilliant flash as a corvette spectacularly exploded under the concentrated fury of hundreds of snubfighters and freighters."Deflector shields at maximum. Deploy all TIE fighters into three waves and keep one in reserve. Do not let them rebuild their formations.""Captain, we're being hailed." Mardotte nodded. A typical specimen of pirate appeared, having extensively tattooed and modified himself beyond recognition. And Mardotte had seen some messed up creatures before. To the ImpStar Deuce douchebag; bugger off before I blast you and your girlfriends back to the academy..."Open fire."The first volley of flak bursts tore through the pirates and doused the communication in static. The decks hummed as the reactors went to full power. There were more explosions in the kaleidoscope of bright lights. The pirate who had tried to threaten the Vanguard either was one of the many ships that had vanished or suddenly realised there were more important things to be doing, like flying. "Lord Tysabaar, I hope you're as competent in space as you are on the ground..."

"There."
Mardotte waved his hand generally at the at the chaos outside.
"I'm assigning you the best fighter wing to cover you, although, I'm afraid, you'll be limited to using our TIE Interceptors."
There was a distant rumble as a missile hit the Destroyer.
"By your leave, Lord Tysabaar."
Down in the hangar bay, Lieutenant Drexel anxious to be out there. As the most experienced and decorated pilot, he felt that he was being punished for some unknown misdemeanor in a cruel and unusual way. There would be other battles, he thought. But none with a target rich environment like this one. He kicked the landing strut of his Interceptor in frustration.

Nodding, Tysabaar walked over to the elevator. There he selected the hanger bay and slowly descended towards it. Upon arriving he found a very annoyed Lieutenant Drexel.
"Come come lieutenant, no time to laze about. There is a battle to be won." Without waiting for a reply Tysabaar got into his assigned interceptor and joined the action almost immediately. Drexel had joined Tysabaar's side, and where instantaneously attacked by enemy fighters.
Diving slightly downwards and to the right, Tysabaar lured his pursuer directly into Lieutenant Drexel's attacking fire. The enemy could do nothing once his engines had been hit, spinning out of control until finally exploding in an spectacular ball of fire.
Maneuvering through the accumulated debris with ease, Tysabaar and the Lieutenant made short work of the mercenary fighters. Their lack in training and experience against full force military attacks made them easy prey for Captain Mardotte's organized fighting fleet.
=Lieutenant Drevel, we are to approach the command ship. I will board the vessel, while I believe your skills can still be used in aerial maneuvers.=
=Captain Mardotte, I will need additional support as I board. A external boarding party penetrating through the hull could also be useful.=

The Star Destroyer cruised inexorably through the snub fighters, almost indifferent to the massed fire against its bows. Batteries fired, TIE fighters corralled the errant and Tysabaar's fighter wing decimated those unfortunate.
Mardotte watched the displays as the enemy freighters began to break clear, attempting to clear the gravity of Utapau's star and flee the Imperial retribution. A bit late. Despite the Imperial Star Destroyer's incredible size, it could easily overtake smaller enemy ships, by dint of its sheer momentum.
"Tractor beams, immobilise as many of their ships as possible."
Ten of freighters were caught in the invisible hand of the Vanguard and dragged into its hangar bays. Boarding teams geared up to breach the freighters.
"Lord Tysabaar, we have the enemy locked-down aboard. The captain has offered you the privilege to lead the boarding teams."
The TIE fighters fell out and formed a picket line surrounding the Destroyer.

Understood. I shall abandon the pursuit of the enemy command ship and return to the Vanguard.
Returning immediately to Mardotte's Star Destroyer, Tysabaar entered the hanger bay and landed his interceptor. Joining the boarding teams, Tysabaar made a quick inspection of the troops. Being satisfied, he lead the first group towards the nearest freighter. Wielding his two violet lightsabers, Tysabaar started to cut his way through the door. Pushing the door inwards, it fell away into the freighter's passageway. Several doors led off into the different parts of the ship.
It was very quiet on the freighter as the troops moved in. The pirates must have though that they could still defend themselves with an unexpected attack on the boarding team. They where completely mistaken.

"Second company, prepare!"
Another wave of shining white Stormtroopers crouched and readied their stubby carbines to support their comrades. Commander Terrak grimly watched. More fodder to fatten the Sith monster. Although he had no objection if Tysabaar wanted to slaughter pirates wholesale, he would have preferred it if Mardotte didn't keep risking his Marines. It was unnerving how he stood inside one of the observation rooms across the hangar, watching. He was not sure whom exactly he was watching. Or why. He was a soldier, a good one and he wanted nothing else but to keep his head on and exterminate some rebels.
". . . I don't need someone watching me while I do it."
"Please don't shoot mee! Pleease! Phleeeze!"
A dirty humanoid lay face-down on the floor, his hands shaking in the air. The Stormtroopers fanned out blasters leveled. It could be a trap. Anywhere in a ship like this there could be concealed explosives or trapdoors filled with enemies. They scanned first the creature. Clear. The floors and ceiling were clear.
"I'm begging yoooou. . ."
Terrak was doing some watching of his own. The Yuuzhan Vong auxilleries, if he could call them that, those bizzarre out of this galaxy creatures, loitering between the parade ranks, fully geared up. Had they been invited? He grimaced. It was feeding time and Mardotte was dumping the bucket between them, the Marines, the Vong and the Sith. . .

Tysabaar moved forward and with a quick swing of his right lightsaber, decapitated the pleading pirate.
"These pitiful creatures are the lowest of the low. They do not deserve mercy. Troops, engage on contact." Moving towards the nearest door, the sith opened it up and entered the open space that had obviously been used as a cargo hold. Nothing. Continuing like this, Tysabaar and the marines searched the freighter.
A small group of marines had entered the med-bay in their search and where ambushed by some of the freighter's crew. Hearing the commotion, Tysabaar swiftly turned around and made his way to the med-bay. Upon entering the room, he say that two marines had already been plowed down by the ambush fire of the pirate's blaster rifles. The other three marines had found cover and had responded with return fire.
Noticing Tysabaar enter the med-bay, the pirates started to focus their fire on him. Dodging and deflecting the bolts with his two lightabers, Tysabaar countered their attack with a short but powerful blast of lightning. Sparks where seen across the room as the electric charge shorted the medical equipment. The pirates could not escape the blast, and where thrown across the room by its sheer power. Lying still on the floor, the enemy was obviously nothing less than dead. Living the copses behind as well as the two dead marines, Tysabaar and the rest of the marines finished the search of the ship. Finding two more pirates aboard, they where quickly taken care of by the effective marines.
First freighter cleared.

Acknowledged.
Terrak tersely replied. He motioned for squad two to advance and sweep the next one. Perhaps it was here that his attention was critically diverted. Because when he looked back, the Yuuzhan Vong were gone. Although, it is harder to note something that is not there than something that is and in a crowded hangar bay what could he expect.
But as the marines were leaving, they were confronted with the Yuuzhan Vong.
Stand aside, auxiliaries.
And they did. It was the easiest way to get rid of them was to obey them.
However, Tysabaar wouldn't be as lucky. If he tried to leave, he'd find his way blocked by them.

As Tysabaar moved towards the exit of the freighter he noticed that most of the marines where still inside the ship and had not left. Carrying on towards the exit ramp, he noticed why. The Yuuzhang Vong where blocking the marines.
"Who invited the Captain's brainless pets to the party?"Asked Tysabaar annoyed. He was not exactly in the mood for a friendly chat with Captain Mardotte's monsters."You obviously have not comprehended who I am. I though you would have realized that I am you superiorby now. For that reason, if you do not remove yourselves from this vessel and my path immediately, I will have to apologize sincerely to Captain Mardotte for harming his favorite pets."

As he stepped up close enough to speak, the three Yuuzhan Vong commandos fingered their weapons anxiously.
The first one was Lusenok, a chunky soldier who looked like she had been clumsily put together too many times, although judging from her brilliant, clear eyes, there was nothing wrong with her head. She was clearly edgy at being here, in a pirate ship, Marines to either side and a hostile Sith in front of her. It was like being shamed all over again, forced into a nasty situation by no other reason for being in the wrong place.
She waited respectfully for the Sith to finish.
"I beg your pardon, but I humbly request to lead the next charge to the enemy."

"Of coarse! Why you came aboard this vessel to make that request though, I do not know. Regardless, I wish to accompany you on your next charge, I will do nothing but observe. I'm sure I'll find your combat methods most educational . "
Tysabaar paused, gazed at the creature in front of him, still slightly shocked by it's humble request, then with a quick nod of approval he waited for the Yuuzhang Vong to leave the freighter and lead the next attack.

From behind Lusenok, another marine emergred from seemingly nowhere. Her outfit looked a little disheveled; her shirt was not tucked in properly, her bootlaces were loose, and her hair was messily shoved in beneath the brim of her hat. She noticed the soldiers in front of her were nervous- their breathing gave it away. Another figure stood in from of them, brandishing malice as indicated by his terse and derogatory words. Tension loomed over the situation like a woolen curtain. This is going to be fun.
She smiled widely. "Where are we going?" she asked no one in particular. "Sorry I'm late for the meeting, but I'm ready for the next mission. Just point to where you want us, and I'll bring a souvenir back to mount on your wall."

Slamming her fist to her left shoulder, she saluted him and turned to leave, when she ran into an errant marine. She wasn't wearing the gleaming white armour of a Stormtrooper, so she was not a private at least. Another pirate? Then she saw the junior ensign's lapel pinned to her collar that looked as if it had seen better days. In the bitter rivalry between the Marines and the Yuuzhan Vong aboard the Vanguard, both sides always had a moment to cut the other down to size.
"You filthy infidel soldier, how dare you approach the al'Yun, like a peasant."
She drove her aphistaff into the deck between the officer's feet for the perceived insult to Tysabaar.
From the observation platform, Mardotte clicked his pocket watch shut and tucked it back into his pocket. Time was catching them. As much as he recognized the need for his lieutenants need for more training, he wouldn't do so at the expense of the real fight.
"Gas the remaining freighters. Have Terrak secure the ships to the hold. Recall the TIE fighters and begin pre-lightspeed manoeuvres."

Hearing the commotion just in front of him, Tysabaar was drown to the scene. After looking at Lusenok and showing her to stand down, he focused his attention on to the marine.
"Soldier, you do not quiet befit the usual high standards of Captain Mardotte's troops. I believe that it would be beneficial for you to reconsider your required conduct as part of the captain's military force. If not, you might find yourself somewhere more suited to your attitude and not necessarily your aptitude."
Having finished with the untidy marine, Tysabaar moved past her and exited the freighter. Upon reaching the hanger bay's floor he heard of Captain Mardotte's change in plan. Finding himself of no use anymore in the hanger, he headed back to the bridge.

Raising a quizzical eyebrow, the "marine" marched towards the direction from which she came, seeking out more of "her kind." If her presence was such a burden, such an eyesore, she would happily abandon all intentions of accompanying the next mission. In a situation like this, where one would think team work superseded prejudices and preconceptions, what was the point of even trying? She made her way to the crew quarters to begin her solo escape route.

There was the beautiful high-pitched scream as the hull after hull was pierced, the slow hiss of spent reactor coolant being pumped and the deathly still of the abandoned ships, stowed into storage. There would not even be remains. The interior of the ships would be a neat as the day they were manufactured.
Mardotte was on bridge ahead of Tysabaar, watching as the final co-ordinates for the jump to lock in.
"I heard there was a disciplinary issue during the exercise."
He did not divert his attention from the series of dots traced their route. Delicate business, navigating a Destroyer through the outer rim. It was risky for a single freighter if it ran into an obstacle. It would be a disaster if a ship their size ran into anything. Lusenok was on the bridge as well, flanked by the two other Vong. Judging by how she stood, she was preening herself for a job well reported on. Mardotte did not wait for Tysabaar to reply. Aboard the Vanguard, he was the captain, judge, jury and, if needed, executor.
"A petty officer, judging from the reports." He paused and turned to face him. Perhaps it was not as obvious before, but it was clear that the bridge had its full compliment of security aboard, weapons drawn.
"Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the punishment for derilcation of duty." Mardotte looked at the Vong and nodded. The two other Vong grabbed her by the arms and wrestled her to the ground. She was strong but the sudden turnabout caught her off-guard. Before she could get them off, an odd, serpent-like creature was attached to her scalp. A spineray. She lay writhing on the deck, while the crew watched. Mardotte allowed it to go on before waving dismissively.
"All hands to hyperspace stations." The guards dragged the agonised Vong away while the rest of the crew resumed their tasks. "Tysabaar, a word with you."
Lusenok wouldn't be the only one who was on the brig today. Two on-board security officers confronted the errant Petty Officer in the crew quarters.
You have been charged with direction of duty. Come with us.
