Clan Australis HQ, and the Halls of Clan Australis form the core of the massive asteroid station of the Rock. The internal workings including the barracks and training facilities and private hangars have been integrated into the Rock; allowing for ships to come and go via a secure docking port. Private quarters for the Clan are also here, located just beyond the officers' quarters. They are somewhat comfortable, with enough room for the Alor and his family to have guests.
Command and Control is located within the central complex, buried deep within the station; the main command deck. From here, the commander or the integrated Clan AI can control all the station's functions. Enormous secure datalinks and power conduits connect the deep core of the vessel with the outer decks, and Public areas. Should the station be boarded, the defence can be commanded from C&C which also serves as a final redoubt. Clan Intelligence is headquartered here, with secure datalinks to all Clan forces anywhere in the Galaxy.

Kaine's Twilek HRD droid companion, an AI enhanced personality named Cerani, was hard at work, in the nerve center of the Clan's operations, ably overseeing the entire picture at once. She was head of Clan Intelligence, and it was a full time job, one that had been that of the Twi'lek whose personality now infused her, now hers in truth. Even Kaine just treated her as if she were the real Cerani, and nobody else had seemed to notice, something the droid thought the real Cerani would find as amusing as she did.
There was something innate to Mandalorians that prompted them to scatter, as she could see in the hundreds of locations of Australis warbands spread across the Outer Rim. Many were on recruitment missions to link up with the Clanless, or smaller family units, bringing food and credits and help, and bringing new Australis vode into the fold. Myrkr was the nexus of the Clan's operations, though there was a lesser presence in the Mandalore system, both with the Clan's interests in MandalArms and MandalMotors, and the oversight and protection of the secure construction project near Concordia.
The Myrkr system was becoming a busy place, with The Rock a continuous hive of activity, and not too far away, Clan Australis's full naval might was forming up. Freighters and transports made runs to and from the surface and the locations in orbit. The surface of Myrkr too, was a busier place than it might look, with hundreds of separate training operations spread out across the jungles and forests, as Clan Australis worked to create the next generation of warriors.
Married to the military might of the Clan was the wealth of intelligence that came in from outside Mandalorian space. Traders brought rumours, which were at the very heart of intelligence work; and Cerani's operatives built on those rumours, investigating the other galactic powers, always with a keen eye to threats to the Clan and to their allies in the Vegemite Enclave.
Thanks to initial scouting operations, the Clan had a good picture of the defenses of several major Core worlds, and could make plans based on those initial reports for any future potential conflicts. Likewise, weapons and tactics for the armed forces could be organized to be effective counters to the units of any potential enemy. No stone was left unturned in this effort, nor were credits held back; smugglers and traders were well remunerated for good information that could be useful to the Clan; and it all came through the public areas of The Rock, a haven for the operatives of Clan Intelligence.
Cerani was pleased with the initial efforts of the Clan's allies in the Vegemite Enclave, she had to admit, Kaine had been right, which didn't happen often. They were the sort of folks she wanted to be around, strange, eclectic, unpredictable, but very, very down to earth.

The hive of activity that was the Clan's command and control nexus aboard The Rock never ceased, with transmissions from across the galaxy all routed to this one location, it could be nothing but flat out all hours of the solar day and night.
Cerani in person and the Australis children via holo had monitored the Alor's meeting with the Clan chieftains; not that it was a secret meeting, but Kaine had been fine with the rest of them viewing the meeting, and he would be relaying the information upon his return regardless.
Arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. Konig said with disdain.
Efficient of them. Amaranth quipped. Vevut, Marit and Reyn's holoimages remained silent for a long moment. Finally Reyn was the one to speak.
Arrogance isn't always exclusively a Mandalorian trait, vode.
He brought their minds back to the task at hand. The fact the Clan chiefains had even attended Kaine's summons was a minor miracle in and of itself, and was a surprise to the Australis vode. Kaine had made his offer in good faith, though the rest of them had advised against him going to Manda'yaim. The Mandos would do what the Mandos would do.
Where are we with the operation? He spoke of the Clan's next expedition, a far more militant one than the recent Battle of Wayland. It would require a mobilization of a considerable portion of their Clan's armed forces, and was ambitious in the extreme, half-baked, and very Australis.
Cerani turned to face Reyn's holo. We're ready to launch at the appointed hour. All is in readiness.
Weeks of preparation had gone into the operation, from scouting to logistics to endless simulations for the pilots and troops. Clan Australis was ready for war.

The conference was being held in a pub, which spoke to the fact that Kaine had been the one to call it. Planning got done in a planning room with fancy holotables and data displays, after action reports could be done anywhere, and the Australis Alor preferred to do his with booze readily available, and a pleasant background hum.
A side booth of the Randy Rancor cantina was able to seat eight, and it was almost full with the Australis siblings, their father, and the Clan's Twilek HRD. Various glasses and mugs dotted the table between them, and Kaine had a bowl of chips in front of him. The cantina was busy, though the mood around the table wasn't quite celebratory. Kaine called it to as much order as he could, raising his net'ra gal.
Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la. The others followed suit, raising their beverages. The traditional mando'a phrase for the departed was Kaine's way to honour the valiant dead. They'd lost people on the latest mission, and that should never go unrecognized or unremarked, in his eyes. Being a hero, prepared to die for your family and friends, or what you hold dear, was a basic requirement for a Mando, not worth a separate word. But it was worth recognizing, and honouring.
The battle in the Byss system hadn't gone to plan at all, and though the Clan's forces had acquitted themselves magnificently against near insurmountable odds, and several objectives had been achieved, Byss remained in Ren hands, with the First Order well able to repair the damage done by the abortive raid. The Clan had lost pilots and the crews of four warships, as well as the Borleian Spike itself, though the Invincible Reason had been able to fight its way clear of the system and recover some escape pods. They had fought a superior enemy to a draw, though it had been an expensive battle.
Thoughts? Kaine said, throwing the discussion open to the table. Konig was first, as Kaine had expected. His risky boarding operation had been one of the few clear successes of the battle. He hadn't failed, though he bore equal responsibilty for the collective failure of the mission.
We underestimated the enemy response. Kaine shook his head. The response had been lighter in force than expected, and different in scope to what had been planned for. They'd made assumptions, and the Ren had reacted in a way they hadn't anticipated. No, that was wrong. He had made those assumptions, and he suspected everyone at the table knew it.
I disagree. Given the lack of heavy warships and the presence of so many interdictors, I feel we overestimated their response.
Amaranth was sullen, looking up, but not speaking. She'd had to abandon her ship, which had been destroyed. She'd also accomplished her mission entirely, Konig had lost some of his troops, but she had lost more than half of her crew. Konig took up the argument.
We misread how the Ren would react. What is it they say about assumption being the brother of all fuckups?
Amaranth looked up. Mother.
Konig shrugged. If he noticed Amaranth's mood, he gave no sign of it. Mother, brother, any other fucker. He looked to Cerani. She looked right back, meeting his stare.
I told you so. Konig looked away first. You did.
Kaine held his own hands up, palms out. It was my call, and my mistake. We build on what we did well, and avoid repeating what we didn't. He looked back to Konig.
How's your ship? Konig grunted. She'll be in drydock for weeks. A lot of my crew will be in the hospital at least that long. We're out of the game for now. Kaine patted his son's shoulder, not unkindly. He was far more used to losing people than the younger Australises around the table. It wasn't something he cared to get used to. They'd lost people, and it was his burden to bear.

Holodisplays and map tables arrayed before him, Kaine took in much of the data coming in at a glance, as much as he was able. He understood his role encompassed more than military operations, but for him, that was the part he knew best, and the part that always took up his attention first. Delegating responsibility came easy to such a lazy soul, and he had become of the habit of delegating the administrative details and anything not involving violence off to anyone but himself. His mood was off colour, for despite his best effort, somewhat wishful thinking if he were truly honest with himself, though the Hoth and Thyferra campaigns had come off successfully and to plan; Byss had not. As he had been advised by many of his closest advisors and pretty much everyone else, an attack on Byss was a foolish idea. Cerani, his intelligence chief had put it first, and clearest when she had chewed him out following the abortive attack.
Some days earlier.
You were told what would happen.
Kaine hung his head, but the diminuitive Twi'lek wasn't of a mood to show mercy. She didn't work her posterior off for him gathering information and working to provide intelligence so he could ignore it and look like a fool. She managed to swear at him in six languages he recognized and understood, a couple more he didn't follow, and some he couldn't place at all. The meat of it was, she was smarter than he was and he should ignore her at his peril, and what hurt the most was she was right.
You were told the Ren wouldn't fight you, and you went anyway. Now we look like a menace to the rest of the galaxy.
He knew that too, though part of him, the stupid part, liked being a menace to the galaxy just fine. The sensible part, buried deep down, knew better. He was older now, and was responsible to more than just a scattered warband, or a private military company. He commanded millions of soldiers across dozens of worlds, not to mention still being the Alor of a large and excessively armed Mandalorian Clan. In addition to his role as a Mando'ad, he had taken on a responsibility to the Vegemites, one he took as seriously as his duty as a Mandalorian. It amused him that even though he'd risen about as high in rank as anyone could, he still got shouted at regularly. Finally, Cerani either ran out of breath or ran out of languages and inventive invective to throw into his face. She punctuated things with a slap across his face, which was the only part of him not encased in beskar'gam. The strike stung, and it also let him know he was forgiven.
So, what now?
She smiled, the first smile she'd shown since he'd returned from Byss.
Now, we get back to work, Marshal. It's time you see everything we've built and grown over the past year or so. You've been busy on campaign, did you think the rest of us had been idle in your absence?
Kaine grinned, though inwardly he knew ahead lay logistics, administration, and the sort of work he loathed. Everything leading up to battle, the details that made the fight, that was what he saw as the worst part, the fight at the end was what he lived for. Though he knew trials of numbers and lists lay ahead, Kaine Australis remained undaunted, knowing there were still battles to be fought beyond.
Let's get back to work, then.
Present day.
And so, the Marshal and Alor and a bunch of other shabla titles was plunged back into a world of details, preparing for the next fight.

Following the successful Battle of Nar Shaddaa, where the Mando'ade of Clan Australis had wiped out a dark side Cult of Ren, and destroyed their Executor-class flagship, Kaine had released the happy troopers back to their units. The commanders had gone off to write up battle reports, while Kaine had avoided paperwork like the space plague, and headed for his own ship and his sanctuary, where there were doors that locked, and tihaar aplenty. His peaceful relaxation time lasted about an hour before a priority holocomm call interrupted his drinking.
Sighing, the old boar put down his tihaar and activated the holotransmitter. It was a conference of his section chiefs, which meant he had to pay attention. By virtue of his rank, he didn't put aside his drink, ignoring the looks shared among the others. Yes, the old man's been drinking, so don't upset him, the looks said to each other.
Cerani, the gorgeous young blue skinned Twi'lek female, head of intelligence, began proceedings, outlining the current state of the galaxy, and the interests of the Clan.
Outer sectors remain quiet, we've had no opposition or even any loud complaints out of Hoth or Thyferra. There have been some further minor incidents on Commenor, where some of the noble families remain in opposition to Lady Marit's government.
Kaine growled. I warned those bastards to behave themselves. If I have to go back there...
Cerani cut him off. It hasn't progressed to that stage just yet.
Konig, Kaine's second oldest son, and commander of the Invincible Reason, chose that moment to put in. Tell him about the Yuuzhan Vong.
Cerani glared at the younger Australis for speaking out of turn. Kaine's reaction, predictably, was to half leap from his chair. No two other words could have galvanized the old Mando so completely or so quickly. He'd been as green as grass when the Yuuzhan Vong had invaded the galaxy, and come out of that war a veteran, having watched everyone else he knew die around him for years on end. Cerani hedged a little.
We only have rumours thus far. Kaine wasn't having any of that, as Konig knew well he wouldn't.
And why are they rumours?
Sir?
They are rumours because we haven't investigated them yet. This is now top priority. If the Yuuzhan Vong are back, I want to know about it.
Heads nodded around the holoconference, whether they agreed or not, none of them were going to go up against Kaine on this subject, he wasn't known for being sanguine at the best of times, and one might as well stop an avalanche with sweet words as prevent Kaine Australis from hunting down Yuuzhan Vong. Like it or not, Konig had forced the issue, something for which Cerani would take issue with him at a later date.

While Kaine played soldier with the troops down on Myrkr, Cerani, head of Clan Intelligence, was left to oversee operations across the galaxy from the HQ, high above Myrkr, deep within The Rock. With a wide array of screens and holodisplays, she was at the centre of a wealth of information, and the young Twi'lek expertly divided her attention between observation and various command tasks, talking to herself sometimes as she did so. Hrm...Keeping an eye on the younger Australis children was a full time task, none of them liked to be monitored. Reyn was at Mandalore, along with König and Amaranth, and much of the Clan's fleet. Vevut was on Kiffu, and Marit was on Hapes, at the treaty signing. She could clearly see that Myrkr was short on reinforcements, with many of the fleet's ships seconded to the Inner Rim Imperium while their own fleets were drawn up, what was left over was well stretched. With much of the fleet due for maintenance, there wasn't enough operational forces. Cerani took time to look over the latest designs from MandalArms. Kaine had been screaming for a new heavy transport and a gunship, and it looked like sometime this month, he would get both. She had no doubt he'd immediately want something else, but she liked the look of these craft. Unique and somewhat peculiar designs, but like all Mandalorian designs, they would be most effective if used well. She'd been aboard one of the new Dungeon-class Star Frigates, and she had liked what she had seen. So had the commandos who specialized in boarding and zero G combat. Time to check the banks..With the logistics and military to one side, she next looked in detail at the economic situation. The latest figures surprised and delighted her, looking far healthier than expected. MandalArms provided the lion's share of revenue, and it seemed that even with the 10% export nerf that Kaine had ordered, the new starfighters were selling extremely well. The rare foresight that the Alor had shown by signing long-term contracts with MandalMotors, Baktoid Armor and Tendrando among others had paid off, with supply lines now well established and production growing each month. Politically, the gamble of attempting to establish an economic alliance between the Inner Rim worlds was paying off. Good lines of communication had been established between many independent worlds, and the benefits of free trade were aiding Myrkr as much as the economic powerhouses of Thyferra, Hapes, and Manaan. Each member world's speciality brought them many new opportunities, and Clan Australis had a near monopoly position for all things military, from munitions to personnel to hardware. Nobody's misbehaving this week, hmm? There was little to nothing on the threat boards, beyond the normal pirate and smuggler activity, and even that was being knocked back by the constant patrols. The criminals were getting the message that it did not pay to play in the IRI's territory. Having Mandalorians knock on your front door was often very instructive, even to those observing the fate of others. Clan Australis was doing very well for itself, and Myrkr was prospering. Likewise, she had observed that their work with the Inner Rim was doing wonders for their reputation. A long peace had come to the galaxy, and what would normally be lean times were instead fruitful.

Phase II of the Byss operation had begun once detection of the initial probe droids had ended Phase I.
Armed with a wealth of data either copied from local databases or monitored across the electronic spectrum, the Clan's AI had gone to work processing and classifying the information that had been gleaned from the scouting operation. The first task was the production of a detailed holomap of local space, accurate to the micron, showing the projected path of stellar bodies within the system. Included in the map was an overlay showing the projected sensor ranges of active installations within the system. Further overlays provided projected population density and energy output. The mapping effort was designed to be comprehensive, allowing for the best possible intelligence on the current status of the Byss system.
Along with the detailed holomap production, the AI tasked some of its processing percentage to classifying and labeling the active comm frequencies which had been monitored within the system. Decrypting so much traffic would be too time consuming, and was unnecessary. The streams and codes could be classified by how well encrypted they were, with the basic encrypts of public-access holocomm easily discernable from military grade encryption.
All of this work was done to provide Kaine Australis and his ally Lord Nexus with the best possible covert intelligence picture of what awaited them at Byss. The operation to retake Lord Nexus' deep core stronghold was still being planned. The preparations were well underway, however. Once the final intelligence picture was completed and presented to Kaine, he would have the final say on the ending of Phase II; which would lead into Phase III, the infiltration of the system by Kaine personally, along with his advance forces. Once complete, they would initiate Phase IV, the final phase.
Assault.

Initiate Phase Three. ' Cerani stared at the words on the screen before her. Kad Damn, the old bastard was actually going through with his half-baked plan to assault Byss. She supposed that she couldn't fault his preparation, not with ten full companies of commandos and five divisions of the legions, along with more hardware than the Clan generally liked to carry with them. She was surprised, though she supposed she shouldn't have been, that Kaine had insisted on going in with the first wave.
Idly, she looked across the lists of units and resources assigned, and the level of preparation that Kaine had put into this mission. One last hurrah, she knew how he thought. He was certainly committing to the operation, utilizing most of the Clan's firepower in one swift devastating assault. They would be outnumbered, and the First Order knew that they were coming. Recent activity focused on the Byss system made that clear, though there had still been efforts to spread the enemy's attention; there would be no surprises here.
One kriffing ship. Kaine was betting his entire stack on a single roll of the dice. If his approach wasn't perfect, they were in serious trouble. She consoled herself that at least he would have the best of the best to aid him, and keep him out of trouble. The list of officers read like a who's who of Clan Australis. General Rhael Nebus would command the legions and the army. Kaine had included ten commando companies, and most of the Captains General; Grunt of the First and Attichitcuk of the Second. Riva Shiel would lead the Third, while Strabo represented Reyn and the Stormwolves. Luthi represented König and his Lion Cubs. The mercurial Bronzi led the 6th, the vaunted Redbacks, while Marbo and his 7th would bring their own brand of violence. That was not all. The 8th were included, a full hundred of the bastards, led by the nastiest Bothan bastard of all, Jaing Nail'ya. Any misbehaviour on their part would be curtailed by the presence of Sigurd-Adofo and his Guard. The golden giants were the pinnacle of gene-science and training, and each was a commanding presence on any battlefield. Along with these came Kaine's own Jare'rami'kade, the most eclectic and undisciplined of the lot, but they were all fine warriors.
Even a thousand Australis supercommandos would not stand against a world on their own. Rhael and her legions would come with the army and the bulk of the vehicles that would reinforce Kaine's initial assault into a comprehensive occupation, and destruction of resistance on the ground. He had selected well, with some serious surprises for the enemy, provided the reinforcements could make it to the ground. They would come in hot on the heels of the main assault, breaking out for the planet from the attack force, aiming to reach and reinforce Kaine before his commandos could be overwhelmed and wiped out.Cerani sighed, reached forward, and acknowledged receipt of the order. She had little left to do but wait and watch...

Oh no.
Director of Intelligence Cerani came across to the coordinator's shoulder. She didn't ask what was up. She could already see the screen. Oh no indeed. The Alor was going to go ballistic, and there was no way for them to not tell him.
There were Yuuzhan Vong at Byss. Carry on.
Cerani sighed a deep Twi'lek sigh. This was not going to be a fun conversation. She moved off to her own station to contact Kaine, and update the Alor on the situation.
