The TIE/d Defender Elite was a type of TIE/D Defender. It was developed in 1 BBY, at the Galactic Empire's facilities on Lothal. Like normal Defenders, the Elite had three wings, heavy cannons, and a hyperdrive. However, it was much faster and had even more durable shielding. Sabine Wren speculated that it could outclass the Spectres' ship, the Ghost, in terms of speed. It was also equipped with a kill switch, as a security measure. To ensure its superiority, the Defender Elite came with superior shields and was armed with eight heavy laser cannons, warhead launchers that gave it a total of six missiles, and a tractor beam projector. Its high maneuverability and incredible speed made it difficult to face in one on one combat, even in the hands of a less skilled pilot. It also came equipped with a Class 2 hyperdrive.
