"Come on dad, I saw the way she looked at you when everyone got off the ship."
She smirked as she looked up at him. If he was going to play coy, she would deflate his balloon pretty quickly.
"Plus, there was the fact that you stayed in her room a really, really long time."
She had gotten up in the middle of the night for a drink, and stopped by his room and found his bed empty. As was the galley, the cargo hold and the cockpit. Returning to bed, she had deduced that he must have still been in with Mel. For a moment, she couldn't decide which was disturbing, the experience on Garqi or the thought of her father having sex.

"How did she look at me? How do you know I wasnt going over her performance on the mission? Or discussing how she was integrating into team?"
There seemed to be no hiding much from her, but he could stretch it a bit further, even if it was just for show.

"Come on, she looked at you like one of those women in the movies who wants to be kissed."
She shook her head at him, determined that he was jerking her around. She pulled her arm from around his middle where she had looped it, crossing them in front of her. He was being awfully stubborn.
"I guess if you don't see it, I'll just have to tell her that you don't like her."

He turned half towards her with a knowing scowl.
"And what holovids have you been watching young lady? Maybe I should start previewing them first!"
The scowl disappeared.
"As for the kissing part, I took care of that already. At least she thinks I'm a good enough kisser to want me to kiss her again!"

"Ewwww, gross."She shuddered thinking about her father kissing Mel. Not that she didn't like Mel, she thought Mel was awesome and really pretty, but it was her dad."So what now? Are you gonna marry her?" She was woefully ill informed about how relationships were supposed to progress. She had been reading the Resol'nare but that didn't really serve as a good guide for how dating worked.

"What? You are the one watching holovids where girls want to be kissed by men." He sighed, thinking. "I don't know if I will marry her. I suppose that she and I will have to find out if we both want that. What do you want to see happen?"
He was curious as to what she thought. She was obviously interested in the subject, and in all honesty it was something that would affect her as well, and so her feelings and thoughts were a valid addition to anything that happened.

"Well ask her if she wants that. I can ask her if you want. I wanted to see if I could copy of her music anyway. Is she still up here or did they call go back down to their houses?" Gaeza's social inexperience was painful to behold sometimes, and this was one of those times. It would take more exposure to dealing with people and developing interpersonal relationships before Gaeza would understand that you don't just ask someone if they want to get married after a kiss. The depth of emotion that would need to exist to join up a family was something she was unaware of. To Gaeza, it was a logical conclusion that if you liked a person, you married them. Why waste time?
If she only knew.

"Well usually two people find out a bit more about the other person first. It isnt always like someone and marry them that fast. Sometimes people just like each other for a few days and then find out that they don't really like each other, they just thought they did. There is a lot more to being married to someone than just liking them."
It was clear that her holovids hadnt taught her everything, thank goodness for that. He really would have to look into what she was watching on a constant basis just to get an idea of what she knew or didnt know. Apparently love at first sight was one of them.
"No I imagine that she is unpacking from either the mission or her personal stuff at her quarters right now if she isnt elsewhere on the station. We did just get back, and she had to start moving once just to get on the station."

"That's confusing. How do you know when to get married? I've been your daughter for years and I don't know everything about you. How long do you get to know someone before marriage?" She shook her head and pulled away to plop down on the couch in that bored way that children always seemed to have. She turned on the television, flipping through the channels until she found a documentary about historical places on Lianna. She picked a datapad of her lessons, looking over the things she needed to cover. Initially, she was able to pick things up much quicker because of the cloning but as her metabolism slowed after the injection, so did her capacity for retaining new knowledge. It was still quicker than a born human, but not as fast as a flash clone.

Taung smiled.
"Then you know that being around someone for years doesnt mean you know everything about someone. You can like someone one day, and despise them the next. As you start interacting with more people you'll have some of these experiences yourself and you'll start to learn these things. Some people simply decide to get married. Others decide to wait a bit and learn more about the other person first before deciding if they want to get married, go their separate ways, or just remain friends. Its much more complicated than it may seem. Some people know each other for years before they decide to get married. Others its only days."
Taung headed to the food prep area to get something to eat. He hadnt told her more than he had kissed Mel, for the most part that was all that happened, but emotionally there was much more that happened, which went deeper than the physical. One day too he hoped Gaeza would understand that for herself.

Mel had been directed to a set of apartments built into the fleet systems yards. The door opened into the darkness, illuminating the stacks of boxes that had been sent up from her apartment in Lola Curich. She set down Lola and her rucksack, feeling for the light switch on the wall. She let the door close behind her, leaning against it as she relaxed. She was still tired from the trip, the developments along the way were nearly as draining as the work. She was notoriously bad at relationships and dating, and thinking about what she should do next was getting her nowhere fast. She opted to unpack her rucksack and get a shower.
The unpacking went quick, the shower only slightly less so. Dressed in black leggings, a long blue tunic and her hair pulled up, she tackled the few boxes of personal effects. Pictures of her parents, brothers and their kids. Farmers and ranchers the lot of them. Her parents were proud of her, but they did not understand why their beloved little Melia grew up to be a killer. That's what her oldest brother Tireck called her on her last trip home. She could tell them all day that her targets were bad men, but the fact remained that she killed people. She had left the next morning before the family had arisen for the day. Since then, she found excuses why she couldn't come home for vacations or holidays. Lianna was her home now.
She set the pictures on a side table out of the way, memories of better times before she started to lose hope that she was doing the right thing at all. She found her kitchen and checked her cabinets. No food. Sighing, she pawed through her things until she found her knee boots and slid them off to head to the mess to get some tea and some snacks to keep in the simply but nicely furnished flat.

Finding nothing to his taste in his quarters Taung headed to the mess hall, maybe he would bump into Mel.
"I'm going to get something to eat. I'll bring you back something."
Without waiting for Gaeza's reply he was out the door and headed down the hallway, turning and twisting through a series of corridors and through a number of emergency bulkhead areas before arriving at one of the stations mess halls. He didnt see Mel in his brief glance over the scattered crowd and frowned as he turned to study what was on the extensive menu. For whatever reason he kept reading over what was available, not being able to decide on anything.

Mel walked in the mess, preoccupied with trying to find her way around the massive shipyards. She had gotten lost at least three times between the flat and the mess. She looked around, unsure where she should go, finally following the crowds around an island of drinks and trays. Standing in front of a food counter, staring up at a menu, Taung looked lost in thought. She started towards him, then stopped abruptly a few feet away from him. Her mouth gaped the word Taung at him, but sound escaped her. She turned to scoot away before he could see her, but she bumped into a huge dockworker who wasn't paying attention to where he was going. She stumbled back and ran into Taung, her feet seeming to twist up beneath her and trip her again as she nearly knocked them both down.

Someone stumbled into Taung, knocking him off balance and he tried to not fall on however bumped into him, his feet getting tangled up with theirs. He managed to be awkwardly acrobatic enough to not fall down, though he wasnt much help to the other person. Turning about with a grimace he intended to confront the clumsy individual, only to have the grimace instantly melt away into a smile as he reached out to help her finish regaining her balance.
"I was hoping to run into you here. Not literally I mean. I..." a confused look crossed his face. "Why did you try to knock me down?"
That didnt stop him from taking in her appearance. Black leggings, a long blue tunic, and knee high boots that seemed to draw the eye up higher.

"I... I'm sorry. This tall guy ran into me and I fell over and next thing I know I'm in your arms. Again. It seems to be a pattern." She shyly turned and grabbed a tray and a mug to get something to eat, and in part to hide her blushing face from his silver flecked gaze. "What brings you down here?"

Taung looked for a tall male, though apparently he had realized who was involved and beat feet pretty quick. It wasnt important anyway. He turned back and also picked up a mug and tray and quickly stepped into line behind her.
"I couldnt find anything interesting in my quarters to eat...and I kind of hoped I would bump into you here. But I suppose you might have stolen my idea." He smiled at her, not listening to what was being offered as the line moved along.

She blushed as she looked down at her feet, noticing that her boots were woefully in need of a polish. Her stomach was warmed at his confession for want of running into her. She picked out a salad, some fish and a cup of tea, moving through the line to pay and then finding a nice secluded table away from prying eyes. She still couldn't shake the idea that she was his subordinate and that they being together was inappropriate. It wasn't. She was no longer Captain Melia Tervho.
She slid down into the chair and stirred some honey into her tea, waiting for him to get settled. She had no idea what to discuss anymore. They had not really spoken much since the night they kissed and she fell asleep in his arms, knowing that he too felt weary for lack of hope for the future. She decided to be as nonchalant as possible.
"So nice apartment I got. Are we allowed to head planetside whenever we want?"

Taung sat down opposite her, not having paid attention to what was put on his tray, and now that he glanced at it, he wished he had. He didnt even recognize two of the things, and wasnt quite sure it looked edible by humans and near humans.
"Of course you are allowed to. Only those with guard shifts or the teams on hot rotation can't. Most of my personal troops chose not to though they freely can when off duty. Of the thousand that are stationed here that is. Most of them are on the planet anyway." He studied his tray again before attempting to pick up something green and slightly fuzzy with his utensil with a raised eyebrow. It was all supposed to be edible at least...so the rumor went. He continued without thinking.
"I'd like to see your apartment."

She chuckled as he tried to pick at the food he sat down with. She put her large salad on the table between them, gesturing for him to dig in and share. She shrugged at his comment about wanting to see her place. "It's not that impressive. Mostly generic furniture, a couple old pictures and a few books. Nothing really to see. I guess the view is nice, but since you own all this, I suppose yours is better."
She chewed a mouthful of greens and veggies, watching his reactions to everything. She decided if they were going to see where this lead, she might as well get ballsy and ask him about his past, really get to know him. "So, uh. You used to be Manda'lor. I'd think you'd have..." She wanted to say "women throwing themselves at your feet" but tact won out and she censored herself. "a different life than something like this. How did you get Sienar?"

"A different life..."
He bravely tried the item on his utinsil before making a face at its powerful taste and accepting her offered salad, quickly took another bite of something to change the flavor in his mouth.
"Strong stuff this...What is a Mand'alor supposed to do with his time? Some like riding bes'uliik war droids into battle, others like to fight and drink, I had a love for designing better ways of warfare. I started running Sienar because Lianna needed a governor from the Mandalorian Empire, and then took over here as a mutual business arrangement, and then bought out my partner. I had already been running MandalMotors, so running Sienar at the same time seemed to just be an expansion of what I was doing there. Then I stopped overseeing MandalMotors because there was so limited demand that couldnt be met locally."
He took a sip of his drink and closed his eyes. He really needed to pay more attention to what he was getting next time.
"What about you? Why a Verpine?"
At least he could answer the question without thinking too much. With Gaeza he always had to think and rethink what he was about to say, and then how to say it three more times.
