Designed by The Organization and produced at Aegohr Manufacturing based within the Smuggler's Run, the SR-2 variant of the Normandy-Class frigate is the eventual successor to the SR-1. While only 40 meters larger, the ship was nearly twice the mass as the original. Due to this, many things were modified and improved upon. Still boasting the famous stealth systems that the SR-1 held, the SR-2 was capable of loitering even longer than its predecessor, in enemy systems to gather intel. Still retaining the speed and agility that its predecessor held, the SR-2 was armed with two forward mounted Electromagnetic Plasma Cannons in place of the previous variant's mass drivers, the SR-2 also carried sixteen point defense laser cannons, eight to a side and six proton torpedo launchers, three to a side. Capable of hauling either two medium ground vehicles or two shuttles, the SR-2 was to become The Organization's primary stealth operations vessel and mobile command center. Carrying 20 soldiers for covert operations, the SR-2 was intended to eventually replace the SR-1.
