Greetings!
I am excited to announce the re-launch of the RPA as the Role Play Advocates.
Why are we changing the name? I'll let the new Mission Statement for the RPA serve as our explanation.
Roleplay Advocates (RPA) serve as community guides and facilitators for community discussion. The RPA is your first line of support for answering questions, interpreting rules, and mediating disputes. Roleplay Advocates are veteran players chosen from a wide variety of backgrounds within the JvS community, and their primary purpose is to serve you, the community, whether you're a newcomer who's just getting started, or you're a seasoned veteran with a new idea. The RPAs stand for making JvS a better place for all members of the community and seek to give them a voice.
Expanded and Clarified Duties:
- Offer rules interpretations and clarifications in response to questions from players.
- Serve as a forum for proposing and discussing new or modified rules for JvS. Once a community consensus is reached on any changes to the rules of the site, the RPA will summarize those changes and submit them to the Whills.
- Organize spontaneous and planned RP events to bring together members of the community that might not otherwise interact.
- Serve as guides and mentors to newcomers.
- Maintain the JvS Chronicle (Separate announcement coming soon!), which will provide a non-binding timeline of major events in the JvS Universe, based upon submissions from the community.
- Maintain the JvS Database of Ships (Separate announcement coming soon!), which will provide approved and properly RP-balanced specifications for ships which do not have complete movie canon or expanded universe canon specifications listed on Wookieepedia.
- Moderate the official JvS chat on Discord.
Updated Structure:
1) Five initial Roleplay Advocates will be chosen by the Whills based upon an open call for applicants via a global announcement (this announcement, see bold text below).
2) Once the initial group is established, the RPAs will be responsible for selecting new members, as needed. The RPA may decide to expand beyond 5 members, if needed, but 5 should be the minimum. There will be an open application process, but the final selections will be made by the RPAs, not based upon who volunteers. We will make clear that the availability of this process allows anyone to express interest, but there are a limited number of spots, and community members should not feel badly if they are not selected.
3) Instead of the Whills selecting High Councilor(s), the RPA shall elect a chairperson. The chair is not a higher rank, but someone to run point and call the shots when things get bogged down. The chair will also provide a clear line for communications between the Whills and the RPA.
4) The RPA chair shall have a term limit. The RPAs may decide the exact time length but we strongly recommend something between 3 and 6 months. Obviously, they may want to adjust this as needed, due to IRL circumstances, site activity, or departures. The chair should feel free to stand down early if their availability suddenly changes.
5) The chair may be re-elected, but a regular re-election process provides a method for rotating duties and powers among the RPAs, without anyone feeling that their control is being given up permanently or that their voice has been permanently ignored.
6) So long as these powers are not abused, the RPA is free to set internal standards for voting, member activity, removal for bad behavior, etc.[/ul]
Thank you to all of the members of the community who contributed input to this effort in recent months. There are too many of you to name individually, but we could not have done this without all of your suggestions and insights, and I hope that this new body will lead to renewed energy and enjoyment of the site. Look for additional announcements in the coming months as we add some more features to the RPA.
This is a complete reboot of the membership of the RPA, and we're going to make it easy to apply. If you are interested in being an RPA, please carefully read the information above, and then either respond to this announcement saying "I want to apply," or sent a PM to Shaman Chill by Wednesday, April 25th.
Thanks again, and have an ice cream sandwich.
