Once the offices of the Chancellor, following the dissolving of the republic it became the office of the planetary governor. It was a very elegant but efficient place, reflecting the planet and its people. For a long time, Coruscant had lacked its own identity. Instead taking on the multi cultural person of the people that called it home. The office was the start of the next step, something that spoke to the culture the planet its self had.

Standash had been welcomed by the people with open arms. They totally rebuilt the building of the Chancellor and made it their new government building. The dissolving of the republic had given the people a renewed planetary identity, and Standash was a hero of the people.

Maintaining trade with former Republic worlds was proving to take most of Standash' days, she was working nearly 17 hour days keeping resources coming in. A planet this size with the largest population in the galaxy was hard to feed and cloth. Luckily the wealth, and investments of the planet's super rich kept trade lines open. She was looking for other options, but the planet would never be self sufficient.

She had done it. The planet was self-sufficient. Not in the traditional sense, but trade from Coruscant was now a vital enough commodity that resources would keep coming. She had also succeeded in bringing up a planetary government. They were ready to take over and Standash could go home and resume life as a Princess of New Alderaan. The people were thankful for her. They had tried to get her to stay, but she wouldn't He goal was to always return the planet to its rightful owners. They wanted to have a ceremony, but she used the last of her executive power to have it just be a meeting here in her office. She was told to expect a gift, but for once she had no idea what it could be.

Kaine had been told only that Governor Thul had been told to expect a final meeting with the planetary government, and some sort of going-away gift from the people of Coruscant. He'd have bet a million credits that she wasn't expecting to see what was about to walk through her door. Informed the office was occupied, Kaine left his men behind in the main hall, off to meet his first Alderaanian Princess. All he knew about her was that she was young, and had already achieved more than most beings did in a lifetime. She was about to get a look at the man Coruscant had elected to replace her.
Taking a moment before the door, Kaine removed his buy'ce and clipped it to his belt. Then, with two polite measured knocks on the door, Kaine entered the office of the Governor of Coruscant. He looked around for the room's sole occupant, and when he found her, he spoke.
Your Highness, my name is Kaine Australis, and I am to be the new Governor of Coruscant.
Kaine intended that this world would not fall prey to crime lords, despotic empires, or other interstellar predators. This was a world of trillions of beings, and to his way of thinking, they deserved better than being abandoned by a group that somehow claimed the moral authority to lead the free people of the galaxy. His election proved that just over half the voting public felt the same way.

The princess just smiled when the new Governor walked into her doorway. Arriving in armor, even with helmet off was designed to get a rise of some kind out of the young woman. It didn't even make her flinch. She was the leader of the largest population in the galaxy, and she was good at it. She ran a good government, putting into place systems that would let her predecessor rule. Security forces and directors were ready to keep the criminal enterprises at bay. You could never eliminate it totally, not on a world like this. Even under Palpatine's iron fist and his hand in the Black Sun, there was always unchecked crime. But it was stable now. She motioned for the man to sit. Her silver tunic reflecting the light for the city around them. Rainbow gem earrings in her ears were subtle, only noticeable when looked at. She stared at this new man, his size and armor doing nothing to intimidate her. Nice to meet you Governor Elect Australis, I enjoyed your campaign, simple to the point. I liked that. Had I allowed myself to vote, I think I may have even voted for you. I was surprised at first when I saw a Mandalorian running in the race. You fit well. The planet is yours. It was never my goal to be here forever, just prepare the way for the next person. The infostructure is in place, and the bureaucracy is actually working well. Must be honest, I am a little proud of that. The Security defense force is strong, and the fleet is much bigger than most know. It is larger than the defense fleet was when the Republic was around. Now, do you have any questions for me while this is still my chair?

Kaine listened patiently as she spoke, nodding politely at each of the points made about infrastructure, security and defence.
One of the things that came with a career in the military, at least for those holding command rank, was an air of casual menace that could be turned on and off at will. Right at this point, Kaine was in diplomatic mode, the menace all the way off, his manner the model of civility and calm, confident reserve.
He gave Standash the benefit of his best smile as he moved forward and took the offered seat.
The pleasure is all mine, your Highness. A kind public word from someone that the people of Coruscant hold in such high esteem would be all I could ask for. However, seeking personal favours is not the purpose of my unannounced visit.
Serious now, Kaine reached to his thigh pouch and removed a bundle of wrappings. Carefully unwrapping the object, he finally produced what would appear at first glance to be a small axe.
I have a gift for you. It is a rare Mandalorian hand axe, crafted from real Mandalorian Iron, beskar, by the hand of one of the finest smiths ever to walk Mandalore. Do not misunderstand, this is a weapon, to be sure, it is also a rare treasure of my people, and I would hope that you can accept it in the spirit that it is given. As a symbol of friendship between the Mandalorians and the children of Alderaan. Kaine carefully laid the precious weapon on the desk, and then laid an executive credit transfer authorization flimsi next to the axe.
There's also a donation for the rebuilding and settlement effort on New Alderaan. Some from the people here, some from Clan Australis and our friends on Kiffu. Five million and change, in all. I hope it aids you in your future endeavors. A lot of us know what it's like to struggle and rebuild from nothing.
Kaine leant back from the desk and smiled once again at Standash.
I thank you for your kind words about voting for me. Clearly I have half a planet still yet to be convinced of my worth. The election was certainly a close run race at the end. I barely scraped through. That said, running against someone like yourself, i'd never have had a chance, I hope you know that.
As Governor, my door will always be open to you. Your efforts here to rebuild Coruscant will never be forgotten.
As he spoke, Kaine continued to appraise the young woman. She was certainly physically attractive, though Kaine's tastes ranged more toward women his own age. Her self-confidence and demenour were certainly what he expected from someone born to a life of royalty. Her words and her achievements, however, showed that the confidence was borne not just of wealth and power, but intelligence and capability. An individual who knew their own true worth was a rarity, so much more so when said individual had the fortune to be born into luxury.
I am open to advice, if you have any. Judging by your achievements, you have a talent for ruling.

Bold move, giving a member of the Alderaan royal family a weapon... She carefully picks it up by the head, looking at it like she has no idea of the concept. only using her thumb and two fingers to hold it. she holds it face high. Out of nowhere, a smirk crosses her face. with a smooth motion, she tosses it in the air, catching the handle. She judges the weight and balance before throwing it perfectly into the back of a hard wood chair. The blade sticking almost a half an inch into the hardwood. My people are peaceful, but old style weapons are something a lot of people take an interest in for sport. I love it, thank you very much. I know what the sharing of beskar means to you people. She hits the accent and pronounces the Mandalorian word perfectly. And on behalf of my people, the gift of your clan and the people of Coruscant is humbly accepted. This will allow us to make our new planet exactly like our old. Thank you. Pleasantries aside, Standash pauses and thinks of what to say, and how much advice she should give. The General was old, likely set in his ways. Too much advice could be taken poorly. Honestly? You will be able to use many of your skills as a warrior will serve you well. However, the jobs are very different. If you lead them like a general, they will resent you and vote you out rather quickly. Making military like moves around your people will build distrust very quickly. Be who you said you were going to be. Command the room, but listen to everyone. A man will respect you and accept your rule if he feels listened too, even if you don't do what he wants. She debates letting him in on her secret, but decides that waiting would be better.

Certainly, ruling a planet of this many civilians will be different to liasing with a planetary religious leader with a relatively small population, or wrangling several separate Clans of Mandalorians from a position of near absolute authority. I'll take all the advice I can get on that score.
Kaine watched Standash feign innocence, then throw the axe like a professional. He smiled, stood slowly, and walked over to the hardwood chair that had been bisected by the beskar weapon. He tugged it free, wiggling it to free it from the hardwood, then walked back to Standash, flipped the weapon over in his gauntleted hands, and offered it back to the Alderaanian handle first.
It was a nice throw, your highness, I can see you're not unfamiliar with personal combat. Allow me to offer you some advice in return. This axe is beskar. I chose it as a gift for you not only because it is valuable, but because though forged as an axe, the weapon is also a very useful defensive tool. Both the edge, and the handle under the grip are beskar of the finest quality, smithed by one of the most legendary forgemasters in history. It will turn away even a lightsaber's energy blade. If you want to throw a weapon, use a knife, dagger or dirk. Don't throw away your shield. Keep it close, and it might save your life one day. He finished with a smile, and let warmth flow into his tone as he spoke the final few words, actively trying to avoid sounding like a drill sergeant rebuking a private. Kaine resumed his seat.
I've seen first hand the momentary shock of a lightsaber wielder whose weapon fails to strike its target when they expect it to. They pause, just for a split second. Great time to chekar! He translated the Mando'a for his host. Er, to stab them, usually somewhere vital.
The old soldier couldn't help himself, most couldn't, when matters related to combat or fighting were in discussion, even less so the Mandalorians, who lived their lives around combat and strove to be the best they could be. Kaine figured he wouldn't insult Standash too much by the offered advice. If she was as smart as he had her figured, she'd consider the source. Not everyone got one-on-one advice from Mando Generals. Or Alderaanian Princesses for that matter. Certainly he'd recieved advice as valuable as he felt he'd given.

She accepts the advice and the weapon back with a nod. I will keep that in mind.
She pushes her chair back for the last time. THe only other advice I can give you about ruling a people like this is, never be too full of yourself to listen. Listening doesn't mean you will take the advice but listen. Surround yourself with people that are worth listening to, and seek out others that may be smarter than you. She picks up her datapad and places the ax in a protective case. The rest of her personal belongings had been taken out of the office already. Be a leader you would want to have if you weren't in the position you are in.

Kaine listened carefully, and took the advice on board. It was good advice, hubris had been the downfall of many a politician and leader across the long history of the galaxy. He also took careful note about the advisors, because there the outgoing Governor had hit the nail on the head. He was short of people to support him here on Coruscant, and that needed to be remedied quickly. No one could do it alone, especially not someone like him with so many offworld duties.
Kaine pushed back his chair as Standash did. I will take your advice to heart. I suspect I have much to learn about Coruscanti politics yet. Then he dangled a small bait. He knew it was dangerous, this was no pawn he dealt with, but perhaps word might spread into the right ears about his intentions for Coruscant. And, those of the Galactic Republic and the representatives of those worlds. I intend Coruscant to be a part of the community of worlds.

She wanted to get defensive. Most were happy when she finally drove a dagger into the heart of the dying beast that was the old Galactic Republic, but others were still blind to the cesspit it had become. Someone, in some way, reminded her daily that they were less than pleased. She remained steady and calm, not letting any frustration show in her face. The Republic was a festering wound on the galaxy. It needed to die so the rest of the people could live. We have stayed in contact with many worlds, but they do so as free systems, not under the control of a corrupt center. I played my part in the dismantling of the system, proudly. Yes, you will need to work with other systems, know what you old and what they hold. But leave the Republic in its grave, I would hate to have to destroy something twice.
She gets a notification on her datapad, and she can't help but let a smile out.

Kaine noticed the smile, which didn't match the conversation, and was tempted to ask, but restrained himself, sticking to the point at hand.
Yes, Republics need to fall from time to time, it's the nature of the beast. Wasn't the first one to die, won't be the last. The galaxy needs some form of democratic organization, otherwise it's all just Empires. It's far from a perfect form of governance, but it's what we have, unless someone invents a droid that can handle the job. He accompanied that non-sequitur with a grin.
Until then, the people need some sort of say, even if they sometimes decide poorly.

The Galactic Alliance was only a little more than an idea at this point. A good one, but nothing concrete yet. She wasn't about to let her plans or the plans of Alderaan slip so easily, though she admired the Mandalorian's attempt. As long as the people get to remain in charge, it can work. She remembers how easy the senators were to twist and manipulate when she arrived. Their corruption made them like putty. And keeping the leaders honest. Anyway, the future of the galactic politics is not the reason you and I are here. Do you have anything else you need from me?

Kaine knew a dismissal when he heard one, and he was okay with it. They were done here. A good beginning.
Kaine stood and offered her his hand again. No, thankyou, you've been more than generous. I appreciate you taking the time to meet with me. Good luck in the future.
Kaine wasn't sure if their paths would cross again. If they did, he fervently hoped they were on the same side. This wasn't an individual he would choose as an enemy.
I'll do right by the people here. You can rest assured of that.

She shakes the man's hand. She trusted him to do his best, and that was all she could hope for. He was strong and capable. She expected to see him again. She would also keep him in mind for the future. Freinds that could command elite shock troops were always good to have, better for an Alderaanian. Until next time, Governor. She turns to leave, but stops. She had to play her last bit of information. One last bit of advice... You may want to pardon a few thousand recent migrants. My security forces found some breaches and tracked down a small contingent of para military operatives hidden throughout the planet. No casualties on either side on detaining them. The Ion and stun beams hit their safe houses at once, disabling all defenses. Upon further review, they seem harmless enough. You can never be too careful with stuff like this... With that she leaves the office. She knew that Kaine would realize that the troops captured had been Kaine's contingency plan. Letting him know this was two fold. It was an olive branch, telling him meant he didn't have to find out later. It also showed that once again, she was not someone to be trifled with lightly. She was smart and quick, and if needed ruthless. She had given no reason to despise her, and may have just proven that she could be a powerful ally indeed.

Can't be too careful indeed. My compliments. Kaine let her go. Someone had some explaining to do, that was for sure. In the whole though, he wasn't even a little upset. If Coruscant's forces were up to the task of dealing with a thousand ori'rami'kade, then they were a force to be reckoned with, and that was just fine with the new Governor.
Walking over to the Governor's desk, Kaine laughed long and loud. It wasn't every day you got such a nice surprise gift, as Standash had given him. He'd given her a gift of great value, but she'd returned one equally as valuable. A capable, well trained and disciplined military, and a strong planetary defence force. He would have traded a dozen beskar axes for that.
Though she wasn't there to hear, Kaine spoke anyway. Well played, Princess. Well played.
With that, the new Governor got to work dealing with the fallout of the election, and the... immigration issue. No doubt there'd be a few bruised egos to soothe. Well, that was the job of a leader, and he wasn't wholly inexperienced with command.

The waiting room outside of the Governor’s office was dominated by the lack of decoration, clearly all the Alderaanian art was being taken down to be replaced by Mandalorian tapestries. There was one piece of furniture in the room, a rather large desk with a very worried looking receptionist behind it. She was clearly unsure if she was still going to be in a job by the end of the day and obviously not ready for small talk. Arkan walked straight up to the desk as his followers filtered into the room behind him.
“I’m going to assume that this is the Governor’s office?”
He didn’t give her time to reply, he just swept his hood back revealing his skull emblazoned helmet.
“I don’t have an appointment and I don’t need one. What I do need is privacy, so along with my friends here, you are going to keep us from being disturbed, is that clear?”
The young human looked very worried but Arkan did not wait for her to reply again. He disguarded his cloak as he walked towards the door. The cloak was immediately scooped up by one of his entourage. The Pirate Captain opened the door as the receptionist was still nodding her head in disbelief.
“Kaine Australis, Governor of Coruscant! It has a nice ring to it, certainly better than any of my titles!”

Annelise had been asked by Standash to stay on. Really she didn't need to ask. Her job title was Chief of Staff to the Governor of Coruscant. She worked for the office until relieved of duties. For a second she had hoped that Standash would have told the new guy, but that thought left her head just as quickly. Standash liked getting people off their feet, she won't tell. She smiled as she looked at a vid screen and saw that Kaine was in his office next door to her's. She stood to introduce herself, and either keep her job for a bit or get fired and on the next transport to Alderaan. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees more movement on another screen. Someone coming in with a mission. The look and gate of the leader were some things she had seen before. She couldn't place it until he took off the cloak. Arkan The former intelligence officer says under her breath. He wasn't coming in making trouble so escalating wasn't exactly a good idea. Luckily there was something for this. When Standash took over, she had additional security installed in the main office. Things to make her feel better, and make others feel out of their element. Under her, an EMP field radiated around the office. Distorting a data pad someone may have notes or something on, making them flustered at having to think on their feet. From a security perspective, it would scramble the circuitry in blasters, grenades, power armors, and HUDs. It had been turned off for the transition of power, but Annelise had one of the few places to turn it on again in her office. She hit the switch and the invisible pulse radiated through the office. After doing so she professionally walked out of her office to address the new Governor's first guests. Hello, I am Annelise Sitar Chief of Staff for the Governor's office. How may I assist you? Her face shows no fear of the man or pirates in front of her. Nore does her voice quiver at all. She is calm and cool, maintaining a professional demenor.

Kaine was busy dealing with the mountain of paperwork that went along with being the governor and effective chief of state of a world the size of Coruscant. He'd been at it a whole day and was already considering resigning, when he began experiencing interference with the many datapads strewn across the gubernatorial desk. A couple of taps on his arm datapad showed it was cactus as well... EMP, he thought. Not hearing the sounds of weapons fire that would accompany any hostile activity, Kaine rose from the desk and went towards the door.As he walked to the door, it opened and he heard a familiar voice from times past“Kaine Australis, Governor of Coruscant! It has a nice ring to it, certainly better than any of my titles!” Folllowed almost immediately by the measured tone of the chief of staff he'd retained from the Thul administration.; a by all accounts capable young woman named Annelise.Hello, I am Annelise Sitar Chief of Staff for the Governor's office. How may I assist you? Kaine was certain that Arkan was here because he wanted something, pirates rarely did anything not directly related to loot, Kaine figured this was probably about the credits to be made in Coruscant's underworld. It could always be a trap, some sort of kidnap attempt or even straight up assassination. But he doubted it, Arkan wasn't the type to sacrifice his own life, most pirates weren't. Hard to acquire and spend loot when you're dead.Kaine loosened his beskad in its sheath, now the only reliable weapon remaining on his person, in case it was needed, and stayed just behind the wall next to the door, listening in. He'd wait and see how the encounter in the outer office played out.He suspected his old pirate friend was in for a few surprises. Kaine had already experienced his own. The Alderaanian's people were far more than they seemed. Indeed, communications with his Mandalorians on Coruscant were still cut off, their release from Coruscant Security custody still pending the bureaucratic machinery on Kaine's desk. That didn't matter as far as local security was concerned. The CoruSec people had taken down a legion of Mandalorians scattered across the Senate District and beyond. A bunch of pirates, in the center of government? Good luck to them, Kaine thought.
