The Sithies 2016

Greetings and Salutations members of JvS,
November has once more come upon us, thus marks the start of the nomination period for the Sithies 2016! I don't want to bog this down too much with a lot of rambling, but this marks a full year since I took custodianship of the Sithies, and I am as excited as ever for another event! As always, this event is about celebrating the writing done on JvS, and I say this a lot because I am so proud of the community that we have, all of us, put together here on JvS. Whether you are a veteran, a returnee, a newbie, or a part-timer, we have all made JvS into what it is through the writing that we do here, and The Sithies has always been an event where that writing is put on display.
We come together as a community to celebrate for one weekend all that has been done over the past year. Once more, I want to reiterate that the Sithies is meant to be a fun event, where we can all put aside our differences, no matter what they are, and come together as one community to have fun writing some shenanigans and not have to worry about being taken too seriously.
With that out of the way, here are some ground rules:

All Nominations for Judged Categories should be PMed to myself: @wilhelmvanbuuren.
Nominations will be open from today up until Midnight on December 1st 2015 (AEDT).
Eligable posts will be from December 1st 2014 to November 30th 2015.
Nominee's will be contacted from December 1st to provide Three (3) Posts to be submitted for judging. Please note, there is one exception to this.
You are more than welcome to include links to Posts you think should be submitted for Judging. If posts are submitted, the Nominee will be made aware of them and have a chance to choose from the posts. This is not mandatory for most of the categories, bar one.
Player's Choice Nominations will be made through the Sithies Public Forum (threads will be linked)

Once the Player's Choice nomination threads go up, they will contain a short description regarding each award. As I'm sure you have all also noticed, there has been a slight change to some awards. In case you are all wandering, Best Criminal does also encompass Smuggler's as well. Another thing to note, is that pending nomination numbers, some Staff Choice awards may become Player's Choice awards. But whilst I do hope you will all nominate lot's of people for each category, you are by no means required to nominate for every category. You're not necessarily going to know enough people that fit across the wide spectrum of categories we have, so I implore you, even if you know only one other person who you think is a really good Lightsider, or has an awesome NPC, do not be afraid to just nominate them for that one thing. Also, even if you have nominated, feel free to send me another PM if you want to nominate more people.

Now, there is a couple final things I need to clarify:

AEDT - refers to Australian Eastern Daylight Time (the current time of which you can find at that link). Last year this tid bit of information was not clarified, which resulted in a number of confused people, so I wanted to avoid that.
As I am sure you have all noticed, Best Short Post has a lovely asterix next to it. This is because it is something of a special award. Unlike our other awards, Best Short Post has a couple of requirements:
As this award is called Best Short Post, there is a max length of 300 words.
Instead of the usual three, this award only has one post per nomination. It is mandatory for you, as the nominator, to provide a link to the post you wish to nominate.
This award is limited to one post per character. If multiple posts are received for the same character, then they will get to choose which post is submitted for judging.
You are required to provide a short piece on how the particular post made you feel, and why you feel that it was effective within the context of the RP. NB: This will be purely used as a tool by the Staff to help aide in the judging process

Hey guys,

I cannot reiterate enough just how important it is for people to nominate for the Sithies. Whilst we are one of the longest existing establishments in JvS history (pre-dated only by the Whills), we are a small team of 7 people, with some of our Staff not always being available, meaning that we cannot realistically go out and read through every SL to gather nominations ourselves. This is why we rely on everyone to lend a hand, because it means you get to give a shout out to people you really like writing with, instead of hoping a handful of people happen to stumble upon your work. Without your support, this event cannot operate properly. So please, nominate your choices for the Sithies, and lets make this another exciting year!

An Important Announcement Regarding The Sithies 2016

Greetings and Salutations,
Today I come bearing news. In light of certain factors and discussions, we have come to a decision to postpone The Sithies 2016, moving it instead for a June/July time period. With this in mind, it is inportant to note that nominations for all awards will still be open. So you can still drop by the Player's Choice categories and put up nominations as you see them, or even PM in your nominations for Staff Choice awards.
We will keep you all updated as to when a set date has been decided and get nominations ramped up again closer to said date. With that out of the way, I just want to say that no piece of work on JvS, no matter how small or seemingly "bad" it is, is not good enough for the Sithies. This is not some prestigious event where your posts have to have 1000 words minimum and are a literary demi-god. It is about promoting the work that you and your group of writer's do on a daily basis on JvS. Even if you write with only one or two other people, don't ever feel like your biased by nominating them for the Sithies, because if you think their work is good, that is all that matters, and chances are, you're like to find other people who also like that person's work, and you can expand your group. That, and there isn't really any possible way you can be biased in a system that doesn't take itself seriously

We aren't the oscar, or the grammy's, or the emmy's. We are a weekend of stupidity, with an "awards" show attached. Anyway folks, we now return you to your regular scheduled program.
