Kel'Al's mind and focus had been filled with other matters for the better part of a year (or at least, they had forced his absence for 8 or 9 months -- but they had distracted him even before then). But now, as he walked the old familiar halls for the first time in oh-so-long, he realized that his other calling had to be balanced with his duties back here at home. There was an academy to run, and from all appearances, the administration of the academy had become a bit disorganized when Master Roma took her leave of absence. It wasn't that anyone was at fault, or that someone had failed in their duties, but just that some of the longest-serving instructors had been overwhelmed, while newcomers such as Jade had no formalized authority, and thus, their hands were tied when it came to the most important decisions that had to be made. Kel's quest to form a covert Jedi strike team, then, as well as the Seleevan Khar problem, needed to be put on hold for the time being.
For a Jedi, the quest for balance in one's service was always a careful computation. As a younger man, it had been easy for him. He had lots of energy, lots of capacity for adventure, and few responsibilities to anyone else. He could go wherever the Force led him, and do what needed to be done, and come home once more to an academy and a world that required little of him. But gradually, as he grew and matured, the complexity had seeped in. First, it was inside the Jedi Order, with teaching responsibilities, both for his younger sister, and for other young Jedi. Then, it was outward, into planetary and galactic politics, when the Chief of State's job was dropped in his lap. Then, for a time, he retreated inward again, to recharge his batteries and review Corellia's defenses and industrial capabilities. And then, he had become a traveler once more, on his newest mission, driving him to forgo all Jedi leadership responsibilities. But he could no longer do that. Master Coral was dead, and Master Roma had taken a much-deserved break from her duties as headmaster, leaving a void that no one Jedi could fill alone. Renewed teamwork was needed.
Nodding to himself as he accepted these conclusions, Kel came to a stop in his wanderings, between two shelves of ancient records in the Jedi Archives, a slightly confused look crossing his face as he scanned his surroundings. He had no memory of entering the Archives. He shook his head with a laugh and the patented half-smirk.

A few feet down from Kel'Al, Jade was examining a datacard containing information on the final locations of Jedi in the Purge after Order 66 was executed. Unfortunately, it was quite patchy in some areas. As Kel'Al randomly wandered into the aisle, she looked up at him, green eyes peering over the edge of the datacard she was perusing. Slipping it back into its place on the shelf, she headed over towards him.
"Sleepwalking, Master Raganella?" she inquired with a slight tilt of her head, hands loosely clasped behind her back. She had not actually seen him to speak to, before, aside from the odd glimpse of his robes disappearing around a corner. In fact, if the Corellian Academy had a ghost, he and a couple others would have probably been in the running for that position.
"It is good to see you back again."

The look of confusion dissolved into recognition as Master Ael Jade appeared as if out of thin air, although he knew she had been there the entire time. She was one of the very same academy instructors whose role he had just be considering. Truly, the Force never made a mistake. "Sleepwalking? Definitely not." The Jedi Master suppressed a laugh. "If I were sleepwalking, you would have heard about it, because I would have fallen down the dormitory stairs by now." There was an amused twinkle in his eyes, but only for a moment, and then he became more serious.
"Thank you. It's good to be back." Subconsciously, he rubbed the irritated skin on his jaw where the fake beard had been attached for the duration of his last mission. "I understand that you have been made a member of the Jedi High Council while I was away, and you have my congratulations." He smiled. "That is a great Honor, and I don't mean to make light of it, but I am more immediately interested in how matters stand here on Corellia. How is the academy? And has there been any word from Ser-- er, from Master Roma?" He didn't expect any new answers about Serrin's absence, but if anyone did know something, Jade was on the short list of people who might hold that knowledge. As a Jedi, he respected the privacy and dignity of the Twi'lek Master's choice, but as a friend, he missed her.

"And the tales of that would have spread through the dormitories like wildfire," she replied with a wry grin.
"Thank you," in response to his belated congratulations, "although it is unnecessary. That was some months ago by now." Then he took the conversation into deeper waters. Jade crossed her arms in front of herself, fingers lightly tapping on her upper arm as her green eyes glittered in the light before she answered him. "The Academy is better than one would expect given the events of the past months. Will Son'tir was on Coruscant last I heard, although he dropped off the radar shortly after the High Council elections. Mike Frantz is on Yavin IV sorting out a bit of a situation there. We have acquired some new students here, although, I am here only at the request of Serrin, and in an official capacity as a High Councilor." Dark clouds flickered through her eyes as her aura was momentarily tinged with sadness. Though Kel'Al was probably not aware of it, Serrin and Jade had been friends for many years by now, and in a time when she had cut herself off from close relationships with others, she had never lost sight of her old Twi'Lek colleague. "There has been no further word from Serrin in so many months that it is now reasonable to assume that she will not, or is incapable of returning. I can no longer sense her in the Force. Search parties were finally recalled some weeks ago."

Kel was quiet for a long moment, his eyes dropping to the rich carpet beneath their feet. He had known Serrin since they were both padawan learners at the academy, and they had been quite close back in those days. But he trusted the Force, and he trusted Master Roma's decision making. She was one of the wisest Jedi he'd ever met, and he knew her reasons for staying away were sound, whatever they might be. If she needed help, she would find a way to contact them. Otherwise, they would have to let her go. Attachment accomplished nothing, except distracting from the present. They could not help Serrin, but there were many Jedi here on Corellia, under their care, that they could help, and so that's where their focus belonged. He nodded slowly several times as he responded. "You're right. I haven't been able to sense her in months." He sighed, and looked up, forcing a smile. "So be it, then."
Serrin would take her place alongside Tagert Hunt on the long list of Corellians that were, officially at least, missing in action. "It was no accident that Serrin asked you to come here. I don't know if she foresaw her disappearance, but the Force brought you here because the Academy was going to need you." He continued, shifting back to Jade's reference to her own status. Everything connected, and he realized that there was no point in stalling on what needed to be done. He would go ahead and make the offer now. "If you are willing, I would like to offer you a seat on the Academy's council, and an official position here as an instructor. Your duties as a High Councilor would, of course, always come first, but you're already doing the job here anyway, so we should make it official." He winked. "That way the students have even fewer excuses to ignore your guidance."

"Indeed," Jade affirmed. None of the students currently here on Corellia ever had ignored her, and that was probably the best for their ongoing health and training. She could tell that Kel'Al and Serrin had also been close, although she did not feel jealous over it. Her friendship with Serrin had been a healthy balance as the two of them worked together. Serrin had provided the voice of patience and calm while Jade had advocated a more proactive, warrior-like stance. It was interesting how her own beliefs had evolved over time. She had not turned her back on the core of her being, but she had grown instead, taking new ideas and molding them into her own paradigm.
"The situation of the Jedi Order is odd at the moment. While I have chosen Corellia as my home, I am required to spend a portion of time on Coruscant, though the city-planet is not somewhere I ever will feel I belong." It was too developed, too full of a dark underside. Towards the Manarai Mountains were some spectacular parks, but it was not the same thing as the vast tracts of wilderness on Corellia. Here one could leave the Academy's precincts and shortly be out in the wild, untamd beauty of nature. Pitting herself against the planet brought peace to Jade's soul. She often sought out the peace of solitude. "There are times when I think the efficacy of the Order as a whole is hampered by all the little councils on Jedi worlds, as academies take on too much to themselves. It divides us even as we attempt to reach unity."

"I've never particularly cared for Coruscant either." Kel'Al smirked. "There are too many people. My senses paralyze me."
At her following comments, however, the Jedi Master's face took on a slightly pained expression. It was true that the fragmentation of the Jedi Order had been a terrible thing, but the Jedi of Corellia had put those dark days to rest, as best they could. Almost ten years ago, he and a group of his fellow Jedi had ended the civil wars between Yavin and Corellia and the other warmongering by the Corellian Jedi, and had forced their fellow Jedi to either change their ways, or be exiled from the system. It had been ugly, there had been blood, and several friendships were spoiled, but it had to be done. The result was a Corellia that was still independent in structure, but was more open and trusting of other Jedi factions. It was the beginning of a long road.
After that great internal struggle for the soul of Corellia, it had taken many years to tear down the walls that the old days had formed in their minds, but he had confidence in all their current Jedi Masters to discern their role. Unity had truly taken hold under Master Coral, who was instrumental in re-establishing the Jedi High Council, and, so far as he knew, that effort toward unity had continued under Master Roma during his recent absence. The Corellian Jedi Council was properly only an Academy Council now, nothing more. Or so he believed, although perhaps an outsider would see it differently? He was perplexed that their change of heart was not more obvious, but maybe Jade hadn't meant Corellia in specific. It was a problem all Jedi faced, regardless of former faction.
"I could not agree more. That is a battle we have fought on Corellia more than once, and one which I hope we have won, at last. You will find that the Academy Council here has a very focused mission. Our duty is to guide and direct the operations of the Jedi Academy and to review the progress of its students, nothing more. As Jedi, we will also handle any local matters within the Corellian Sector which do not merit the attention of the High Council, but that is merely a byproduct of our presence here -- something we would do whether or not there was an Academy Council."

Jade shrugged, "It would be helpful if the Academy Council took a more active role in the Academy, I am thinking." As there really hadn't been anyone to refer newcomers to in the past months, she had more and more been taking responsibility for issues pertaining to the Corellian Academy herself. It had been that, or simply let things deteriorate, and she knew Serrin would not have wanted that.
"I for one, am glad that you are back. Though, what do you intend now? Have you got more research things to do or are you planning on sticking around for a bit?" she inquired. Things had gotten a bit awkward every now and then while the entire council was unable to be reached, though her status as Serrin's friend and High Councilor herself had managed to keep things level.

He nodded to himself, his irritation melting away. Her insinuations about the state of the academy were justified, and any annoyance he sensed in her was not personal, he felt sure. It wasn't anyone's fault that the masters to whom he had entrusted the academy had been called away during his absence. All they could do was move forward from this point. "I plan to stay as long as I can." He replied with the crooked smile that all Corellians seemed to possess. "I cannot ignore the will of the Force, but part of that will is to see the Jedi of the galaxy properly trained, and I can't in good faith leave you again until the academy leadership is re-established."
"I will see you at the next meeting of the Corellian Academy Council, then." Not wanting to take too much of her time, he began to inch away, back toward the the entrance to the library. But he took his steps slowly, remaining in ear shot in case Jade had anything else to add.

"I shall see you there," she replied deferentially as Kel'Al moved away. She realized she hadn't asked him about Five, but for some reason that did not seem as pressingly important as it once had.
With a final glance over the area of the shelves she had been perusing when he arrived, Jade satisfied herself that everything had been returned to order and then left the Archives herself.

Entering the Archives for the second time since he had arrived on the planet the day before, Z'har glanced down at the list of documents on his datapad. He didn't technically need to have the list as his memory in his current form was flawless, however it was good practice to keep up appearances in would could technically be considered an enemy stronghold.
-Z'har It should not take me long to gather what I need.

"There is no hurry that I am aware of, Z'har, but," she paused for a second, "this is where I leave you." What she needed to find was not in this area, so with a quick good-bye, she headed off down the aisle and disappeared around the corner.

Z'har smiled as jade vanished out of sight. True, he enjoyed her company more than any other person he knew, but he was still very much not used to spending every moment with others.
After taking his time gathering the data for his next set of queries, Z'har glanced around to see if there was anyone in the area to 'rub shoulders' with & pass the time.

A statuesque Twi'Lek meandered slowly down an aisle of datacards on medical history and turned down the next not really paying attention to where her feet were taking her as she perused the names on datacard holders. She'd been quietly minding her own business for some time before turning down an aisle that held only one other occupant. He looked up just as she did herself, so there was no way to just sidle past. Assuming a non-committal smile, she bowed, lekku hanging limp, and then straightened. With a minute flick of her fingers she'd tugged her sleeves straight again, sandy-brown Jedi tunic over darker brown flowing trousers with green embroidery down the outside of the seams.
"Hi."

Z'har quickly looks the twi'lek over. At first glance she was probably a Knight, but she could just as easily been a more scribe-focused Master. With a quick series of thoughts he brought up the language database. While he had missed the meaning of the first gestures, the rest would be understood.
-Z'har (In Twi'leki) <Good Morning.>

The Jedi Healer had paused quietly, waiting for a reply. And when the non-descript clerk-type bloke in front of her suddenly responded in her native language she folded her arms curiously, tchunn draping over her shoulder with the tip twitching slowly back and forth.
If she hadn't known better she would have thought he had just learned Ryl right then, otherwise why the hesitation followed by sudden fluency? But that--- Stormy grey eyes were veiled for a moment, then slipping a hand inside her outer robe she withdrew a small dagger, plain in appearance aside from a dark red gem set in the hilt. Flipping it over easily, she offered it to the stranger with a smile.
"I am Nalatua'lin."

-Z'har I am Mr. Desmond. I was just enjoying the archives here.
Watching the twi'lek pull out the dagger, he wasn't sure what she had planned, but he hadn't been expecting her to offer it to him. Z'har wasn't quiet sure whether or not to take the offered blade. After a moment, he held up his hand in a gesture that was a simple, but polite, decline.

"Hmm."
It was a non-committal noise of affirmation. She wondered at his lack of first name, but she said nothing. More to the point, he had refused the gift. Clouds flickered through her grey eyes as she re-pocketed the knife.
"Are you offended?"
Tchunn twitched gently, the lek-tip just brushing the line of her jaw. She would not have inquired about offense of a human as a general rule. However, this one had replied to her in Ryl, implying a vast knowledge of Twi'Lekan language and culture. As such, his refusal of the gift could be highly offensive.

Apparently he had made a mistake. That was one of the problems with not actually knowing the language.
-Z'har I did not mean to imply that, I am a consultant for a company in the CSA. So while I am familiar with several languages, I don't have much interaction with the cultures involved.

"I see," she replied, momentarily nonplussed but recovering quickly. "Twi'Lek's offer gifts upon meeting, upon introduction rather. I think that is the more usual way. There are other cultures that share this custom, but some view it as---primitive." Her voice rose a hair on the last word, almost asking a question. She found human rituals a bit bland at times, but upon closer look at Mr Desmond, she suspected he was already aware of the cultural differences.
"What brings you to Corellia then? Can I help you find anything?" she offered.
