Tucked down below in the deeper portions of the base, the Research Lab is where the active members of J-TECH work their magic, using the materials on hand and the bits and bobs that they acquire from mission to mission to prepare advancements that could help save lives in the fields.
Accessible by level 1 access code or above, the lab also is the storage closet for much of the weaponry found in nooks and crannies within the base

Entering in the lab i moved behind a obscured screen before changing his outer robes, and eventually all but his bottom most layer of clothes for a Safety jumpsuit. To the writer it felt like warming up to synth some crystal spice, but to me… it just was a safety precaution. i had not been down on this floor yet. so i began with a simple inventory of what was stored, and found plenty of munitions to fend off a ground assault on the compound if it came to it… not a lot of Ground to air, or ground to space measures, but i assumed that those would be in place on the surface, but in close quarters, what was down here was more dangerous.
"Well, unless there is a giant orbital assault, I will inform Adi when I go above 5 about the arsenal here."
The tech wasn't all that out of date either. which either meant that whomever used this base as their bungalow was meticulous in the base's upkeep… or this tech was implemented in the Volatile stages of predevelopment back when the base was being built… neither seemed truly viable, but either way i praised ashla that the tech was viable with some of what i could do.
"Ok, enough exposition… down to work"
Setting to work I called puck toward the computer station and began by scanning him through the computer. I knew the findings would reveal Tech that outpaced what was here… but that wasn't the reason for the procedure. Instead i needed a general reference plan for the work i was doing. hitting a button I began uploading the found data into the local network with a redundant copy going into star net… and i began to do a researchers notes
::Experiment Aurek-1 Subject, the Synthetic life form known as puck. Purpose, to find the means of the creature's disintegration and find preventative measures for extending lifespan::
removing the lid i removed the ring inset. i first needed a sample of the substance within the creature… chipping a small corner off i saw portions of the ring begin to evaporate in the outside environment, so… as quickly as I removed the chip, the ring when back in the holding chamber
::sample of unknown substance labeling as "Aurite"… bonds within subject are a mix of elements both within and undiscovered in modern science. in open air, half life is accelerated to a pace at which hitting zero occurs within hours.. however half life of element in the vessel of subject's body… Rate of decay is prolonged in presence of energy from batteries::
I glance up to notice that i have been standing around the station for 8 hrs straight. I find a cot within the lab and, After securely powering down all instruments, lays down for what what i assure myself will only be, "A short amount of time"

My eyes fluttered open as I groaned and examined the nearest chronometer. I didn't know how long I was asleep, but I knew it was more than the "short amount of time" I expected to only be asleep for
"Hmm... 42 hours, it's definitely one of the shorter times I have crashed"
Walking over to the refresher I ran myself through a cold shower, cleaning myself enough that the smell I developed from my constant motion was eradicated, before putting on a similar safety jumpsuit to what I wore when I did my first hours of research down here. Only, this one was black
"?Jedi scientist ninja, studying mysteries in a pitch black cleansuit?"
I was certainly glad that adi wasn't around to here my ad lib singing of nonsense. Returning the power to my workstation, i began by checking to see if there was any of the sample left. there was none. checking the sensor's on puck… the portion that was taken for the experiment had not regrown.
::Findings, check in 1, open air sample has depleted… primary source value has remain constant. thought pattern 1, batteries provide a modification to the aura within the chamber. proposed experiment 1, remove another chunk of Aurite and experiment on the effect by changing the frequency and power levels on which the battery energy is administered::
i began by removing another small chunk of the aurite within Puck's back. placing in a dome, i moved two batteries into charging ports and let the power loose within the dome. Then i tried to rig a contraption to test the overall aura of the location. between the two of them i should find out more about the aurite

The thoughts and words of the Courtyard still on his mind, Adi arrived at the lab. He didn't see Miras, but he could feel the student not far away...perhaps he -was- already here, and Adi hadn't seen him yet...
...but this lab was filled with so much stuff, it would be easy to miss him.
Looking around, Adi saw Monte, and nodded when he got close...but said nothing yet. His mind was swimming...and fighting to stay on the good side of the light.

My mind shifted forward as Adi entered the room. it was certain that some of the research would not be accepted by many in society as they accepted the "Sky god and boom stick" explanation of the force… a view that they reserved for only the force. I myself preferred to let the force be a mystery… but Puck's sustained existence counted on me figuring out some of the riddles ashla set in front of me. So, without turning around I welcomed Adi into the lab i claimed as mine own.
"You know, I have access to the security feeds down here. the council, in it's infinite wisdom, has yet to bestow upon me the rank of Master for a reason. And, for that reason I would suggest you refrain from giving me an honor that does not fit my station. Besides, ...the LAN database gave me some OTHER useful information… Your Royal highness"
then turning to my sample i found it was gone. turning to one of my instruments, i was reading a lower aura level than usual. lower than the ambient scan now that two darksiders were in the vaccinity and attempting to corrupt the neutral nature of the base. Realising that the readings could be attributed to Adi, I turned around and headed for the clean room to change out of this sanitary garb and into the Jedi robes that awaited me inside.
"ok, you have my attention"
Upon returning I motioned to a Café table i had set up so that i could have some semblance of class as i was forced to eat.
"From one prince without a throne to another, What troubles you? You are darkening the lab."

He hadn't even realized that he was showing signs of the earlier conversation with Piteos, but Monte had most certainly noticed. Matango recovered his composure as rapidly as he can, and tried to brush it off.
"A Prince without a throne is a far cry from a master of their trade, my friend. My troubles are nothing more than planning issues. We are fine, no worries."
Adi sat at the table, and tried to put forth a good face. He tried to push the darker thoughts from the forefront of his mind. He had to focus, get his mind clear. It wasn't like a Jedi at all to have these thoughts running rampant through his mind. It was something that Adi had dealt with ever since Master Concordia had found him on Honoghr, and sent him n the path of the light.
...Rumor had it that she had fallen, too, though.
How was a Jedi supposed to fight a war with their hands tied? It was as if the Mandalorians -knew- that the Jedi weren't able to do what they needed to in order to actually protect themselves. Adi just wasn't used to not being able to defend the ones that needed help. He could have done so much more if he had the ability to make the necessary calls. Victory would have been within their grasp before the threat became as large as it was now. With as much support as the Mando had gathered after Yavin, though, the Jedi might not even have enough strength to hold back the ever-rising tide.
He realized that he was dwelling on the negative again, and Adi blinked hard to clear the thoughts from his conscious mind....and it was becoming harder and harder to do.

As i sat down at the table myself, i smirked at Adi… Being an observant person i could pick up the fact that something was on Master Matango's mind. i would not pester him, but I knew something was up.
"You, are a terrible liar."
but then the 12 o'clock alarm chimed and a sensor within my optic eye told me that now, despite me not even employing force speed, either had to order some food. sighing i spoke up talking to what seemed to be no one, but who was rather the AI Gordon.
"Ok, Ok, I know it is time to force feed the idiot, 2 orders of Paprika Numa, a bowl of burnt end stew, a bowl of Chuck wagon stew and two Milkshakes. and pick whichev… no have the droideka deliver it, i enjoy how that droid suspends it's cargo in wheel mode."
Smirking at Adi i enjoyed showing off for a brief moment before feeling a bit of remorse. I began to explain to him how when this was a republic base, how the scientist were worked round the clock, and how… to counter that, the food synthesizers worked in a better capacity than the ones for the general populations.. and no sooner had i finished speaking than a red and white droideka came rolling down the corridor with the meal suspended in the wheel mode. as it approached the table it unfolded, and placed the tray on the table before making a polite bow and rolling back toward its dock
"Well, dig in. I order enough for 2, and Ashla knows neither of us has had a proper moment to rest, relax and nourish our bodies."
i waited until aid took a tentative bite into his food before. normally when instructed to eat i would Wolf down my food and attempt to get back to work all the quicker, but the darker aura of this person was enough to give me pause for reflection… After Puck died at yavin I had let tendrils of Bogan into my life so that i could consider every option of how to bring him back… and while i meditated to purify Myself… there was still the smallest sliver of a tendril within my soul that yearned for me to use the forbidden power again. putting my full fork down, i looked toward my better
"Master, if i may confide in you, i am under the influence of one of Bogan's tendrils. Ever since yavin i was desperate to find a way to bring puck back… and one thing i tried was a dark force power called Darksight. It allows me to observe an event and then to see the different outcomes by different choices. It is addicting since I know right now that every time i use the power i am killing puck.
But i looked at what could happen if we have to attack the base. and all paths seem to point toward both of us becoming estranged from the pull of the council… and worst of all, in all futures i observed, Puck's batteries get broken in the battle and what little Aurite is left in the ring dissipates, killing puck."
this was a moment of true weakness for me. And i knew that Bogan was calling to me… trying to convince me that if i only tap further into its power i can find a path that saves everyone… but reason alone tells me that the events i have seen are fixed into the stone of Time. It was like began won my heart either way.

Adi smiled, and shrugged. It wouldn't be right to burden Diamonte with Adi's problems...He had enough to worry about down here in the lab, and all over the base for that matter. When the food arrived, Adi was polite. He ate what he could, even though his appetite was next to nil. The force had been nourishing him....but then again, it -had- been since the initial meeting here on Carida that he had eaten a real meal...
How long ago was that? Three days? Three weeks? Gahd's, he was losing track of time now. He got lost in thought so often lately, he didn't know when he was zoning out, thinking about everything that had transpired as of late. It was as if all the victories, the times that Adi had succeeded? They were long behind him now. Everything he touched seemed to fall apart at the seams....
Why? Why now, when he needed it the most was his knack for pulling things out and accomplish the mission...rarely losing anyone in the process. Since Yavin? His team had been cut to pieces, and it was falling apart at the seams. It was as if Adieumus was losing the ability to keep his team working together cohesively, another skill he had been exceptionally good at in the past. Where he had once been the glue that kept the ones around him together....now, it was like he caused them to fall apart.
He realized he had gone from eating, to pushing food around on the plate, nibbling on the fantastic cuisine instead of enjoying it as he normally did. He had tuned in enough to hear about Monte's recent forays into the darkness. Matango was no stranger to Bogan himself. Sometimes people are driven to do things they feel is best when all else seems to fail.
Had Ashla abandoned them all in fear of what was to come? Could a Goddess feel fear? If not, where the kriff -was- she then?
"It would appear that Bogan is rearing his head in all we see and feel lately, my friend. These are dark times, and I fear they are only going to get darker as time passes. It is what we do with that fact that will define us, Diamonte.
And please, call me Adi, not 'Master'...I still can't get used to the title, and I probably never will."

I shook my head, from my training a mental though had established linking dealing with a jedi of higher rank, or anyone that deserves respect as a "Master"… it was just something i was conditioned to do.
"Yeah… sorry…" i muttered as i removed the last piece of meat from my plate.
Then a realization hit me, the security measures… i still needed audio keys so that it would be harder for someone else to override commands by stealing one of our commas devices.
"Actually, I am glad you took the time to come down here. I need to establish vocal security codes. In case someone picks the keys from us."
walking over to the console i picked up a microphone and prepped the computer for Adi's passcode. once i was ready i returned and passed the mic to Adi, instructing him to think of an obscure yet memorable sequence of numbers and letters, indicating each Letter by a word.

Monte changed the subject, and Adi was thankful. He was dealing with things in his mind that a Jedi shouldn't even be thinking, or feeling. Yet, it was there, big and ugly as can be. The subject change was a welcome break from those thoughts.
...besides, he had the perfect voice password.
"That's easy enough. Whiskey, Echo, Echo, Delta, Four-two-zero. Easy for me to remember, and quick to say."
Adi wouldn't forget that...even if his brains were removed from his head. Monte was smart about what he was doing....this guy was damn good.
"I just want you to know how much I appreciate what you do. I don't get a chance to tell you that like you deserve, but if it weren't for you, and what you do? We wouldn't be anywhere near where we are...Kriff, we would probably be dead...so thank you."
Inclining his head, Adi finished another bite of his food, and pushed the plate back. He had eaten some, and pushed it around enough that it looked like more was consumed so he wouldn't offend his host. It was the last thing he wanted to do....Monte had been very good to Adi, and one of his only true friends as of late.

Nodding my head i took the Mic, and myself recorded my primary passcode" Mahotsukai Ichigo Zyuden niner-six-ait" Pausing one more time i recorded a second password" Architect Override: Gamma, Zeta, Delta ait-ait-one-seven-six" letting the computer analyze that before matching each passcode and locking into position, I turned to hear Adi's unnecessary compliment,
"D?itashimashite..." realizing i was speaking in my native tongue i bonked Myself on the head " D'oh... i meant to say it is of nothing. all I did was fill a role that wasn't being addressed. I have a firm reliance that had i not been in place, Ashla would have called another to serve in my capacity."

As i sat back down into my seat, i considered the possible things that could happen, but one thing strangely popped into my mind
"Master, i was doing inventory of the combined arsenal, including what was moved below the elevator for safe keeping... and i noted two CLoWDS Pods... Gen VII lying unaccounted for. I don't want to be a thief... but if they are just there, i am claiming one of them as my own."

It is a dark hour for the Jedi order. After escaping the siege on Yavin, newly minted Jedi Master ADIEUMUS MATANGO calls several of the best and brightest to a new secret operations base on the colonial planet of CARIDA. Many heed the call at the first sounding, such as Jedi Master MIKE FRANTZ, and AEL JADE. While others, like Jedi knight DIAMONTE TUHLUTE refuse the call, still in mourning for his lost companion PUCK.
Choosing to take a more aggressive route in order to destabilize the Mandalorian Fleet blockading Yavin IV, Jade is dispatched to destroy a beskar mining and distribution facility, in hopes that cutting supplies can draw the blockade away from Yavin IV.
However, Death Watch Leader DRED VIZSLA contacts the leader of the Mandalorian forces, ASHRAH INTALBO regarding the involvement of the Jedi. In his hatred for the Jedi burning in his mind, he dispatches the venerable and feared TAUNG H'REL to track down and destroy the small Jedi combat force in retaliation. With his sights set on Carida, MAND'ALOR INTALBO intends to send a message to all force users in the Galaxy....

Adi smiled as Dia talked about the CLoWDS pods Adi had taken to the lower levels. They weren't necessarily the standard set, they were more of the upgraded units. These were the redesign after the Ossus campaign, and had some armor refitted according to the battle data gathered during that fight. The upgrades to the armor and weapon loadout package had only been applied to about ten of the suits...mainly for the commanding officers of QRD...but there was only Delta Two on Carida...the rest of the officers were on Honoghr still, to prevent the entire unit from being eliminated in one fell swoop, should things go south. Currently, about 1300 of the 1500 men in the unit were here, though....
There were plenty of armor suits to be had, though....all but 100 suits had been brought by Tza from Honoghr in his supply run. Giving a few to Monte wouldn't hurt the numbers...or the odds.
"That is totally fine. I trust the new A-AI systems will be of your liking. They are programmed to mimic the person they are neurolinked with, so they should be quite useful. They are quite literally programmed to learn all you wish to teach, and also how to be more....well, 'human'. Gregory is the perfect example of that, and I know that he has worked with both Master Frantz, and you as well, in the repairs on the facility. Handy to have around, I'd say. Besides, I wouldn't want to give you inferior tech....you'd just upgrade it anyway. Figured that would make it easier."
Standing up, Adi nodded his head pleasantly.
"Thank you for the meal. I guess I was hungrier than I had initially thought. Now....something I wanted to address. While it might not be a full-on promotion, I am somewhat abusing my privilege as Watch Lead, and a Jedi Master to do what I am about to. Diamonte Tuhlute, you are hereby given the rank of "Jedi Master" for your unfaltering, unwavering devotion to our cause.
Consider it a field promotion. We can report it to the Council once we reestablish contact with them, and they can make it official."
Smiling, Matango bowed to the newly-minted Jedi Master. Monte had earned it....he had literally saved their collective asses countless times, even though he avoided front line combat. There were times that a sharp mind and skill were more important than any weapon or piece of armor you could deploy.
This was where Diamonte excelled, and it deserved the recognition. Adi decided to add one more stipulation to the promotion.
"I won't let you refuse, either. Just deal with it, my friend...believe me, you've earned it. Now, if you will excuse me, Master Tuhlute, I must take my leave. A lot to accomplish, and not enough time to get it done, and all that jazz. Farewell, and congratulations!"
Turning with a devilish grin, Matango exited the lab, and went in search of Miras.

Suits? what was i going to do with multiple sets of armor? Fortunately Gordon moved both of the ships to the secret hangar, so i could pick which one i needed to use based on the escape need. But my mind flickered as briefly i caught a glimpse of the suits of armor protecting a snow covered Monastary… but the bigger news stopped me from delving into that long casted shadow
I was promoted to Master. I still felt that i was not ready, but his terms I had no choice to accept. Reaching into a pouch i pulled out two "Jedi Credits" and handed one to my new brother in arms
"The Corellians have their Traditions, the Instramtans will have their own. It is said that my people desired that all knights have a symbol or a jedi crest of their own. and that upon their reaching Master level the traditional ring would be replaced in favor of an ouroboros like Dragon, who's very fire Creates the dragon as well. When i heard of your promotion i prepared a couple, one for you, and one that i hoped to hold proudly in my hands when i either saw myself as worthy, or more likely someone forced my elevation"
I smiled with a single tear in my eye. but then, placing my right fist into the palm of my Left hand i made a formal bow.
"I figure it will only be a couple days until you trek down here again… but until then, May the Dragon protect you, May Ashla Guide you, and may the force be with you."
As Adi exited, Gordon played a brief fanfare, the last words Adi could have heard as the doors shut were:
"Come on Gordon, you know i do not like the Pomp. besides, we have a job to do…"

it was early hours in the Lab when something sounded off to me. nothing drastic, just a minor sense of harmonic variance from normal. and within a few seconds the noise was gone, and i was left to figure out what the noise was. turning to my console, I checked in with my AI Companion.
"Gordon, did sensors pick up any harmonic distortion just now?"
::I'm sorry Monte, most system resources are devoted to running the analysis on the latest sample of aurite and attempting to find a compound variant that could halt the process. would you like me to divert resources?::
"… never mind, its gone now anyway."
and for a time I didn't worry about it. in fact i fell asleep as i found that the downside to me using force speed to accelerate myself was that when i slowed down, my sleep cycle was such that i would most likely would spend the next couple days asleep for 16 hrs, and awake for only 8.
But when the fleet dropped, that changed
first the alarms went off in the lab, but i was too deep into REM sleep that i ignored it
then, a droid Marching band came rumbling through playing at a decibel level that could shatter my ear drums, i still slept through it.
Then as a last resort, a medical droid was dispatched with a canister of Oxygen mixed with a medical combination that would not only keep the user awake for hours, but as well would trigger a synapse that because of my multiple uses of Force speed tripped me into the ability and held me there.
"HolyNerfGordon, whatsthedealwiththeJederall?1"
::Im… Sor…ry… Sir…. But… Sen…sors…::
Ok, I couldn't stand that. the fact that i wasn't in control of my force speed meant that everything around me seemed artificially slower by comparison to my state of alertness. dashing to the panel i found that Gordon had awaken me because the Starnet Server wasn't responding. My mind processed through all sorts of possibilities from the action so that i could Eliminate the options before the AI could finish his statement at normal speed
"Starnetismycreation, iupdatethesoftwareonceamonthtomakesureitissecure, sofoulplaymustbeinvolved. Iamthearchitectofthisbuilding, soiwouldhavehadtosignoffonanyrestrictionstoholonetconnectivity…2"
::Si..oh… Bi…Bble…. said……::
"Acommunicationsdisruptioncanonlymeanonething. GORDON! OpenaChanneltoAdi3"
Gordon did so, but behind the scenes sent the message to Adi in a text based transcribing my words ::ADI!WEAREUNDERATTACK! IMEANNOTYET, BUTOFFWORLDCOMMUNICATIONSHAVEJUSTBEENJAMMED. SENDACOMMANDOUPTOWHATEVERWESTILLHAVEOFAFLEET, IAMNOTEVENSUREIFWECANGETATRANSMISSIONTOTHEM. WARNEVERYONEOFTHEATTACK.4::
::ADI! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK! I MEAN NOT YET, BUT OFF WORLD COMMUNICATIONS HAVE JUST BEEN JAMMED. SEND A COMMANDO UP TO WHATEVER WE STILL HAVE OF A FLEET, I AM NOT EVEN SURE IF WE CAN GET A TRANSMISSION TO THEM. WARN EVERYONE OF THE ATTACK.::

"OWOWOWOWOWWOWOW"
one down side of the drug is that until my body equalized with time around me, was that my synapes produces an excess of electrical energy to a dangerous level. Normally while i tried to equalize myself, by relaxing and letting the energy flow to my fingertips, i had the ability to release the energy out of my body in bursts that were slightly worse than a weakened burst of force lightning. but with the perilous equipment around me, i had to deal with the head aches for the time that my body adjusted to being in Force speed mode.
Fortunately i saw Adi's message as text based as opposed to speech, as even in this setting i treasured every second and every syllable seemed to take an eternity. But reading the words "Remember Yavin" was odd for me to hear. News from the outer rim was sparse for me, and the last i heard was news from the front from the second day of the siege. but now wasn't the time to think of what could have happened.
scraping my index finger across my lower right canine i drew enough blood to place a drop of it on a scanner. turning quickly i pack up the 3 remaining batteries for Puck, and typed in codes for every Droid down below to stand as transport for everything in the arsenal to move to sub level 1 where Adi and the troops could make better use of it, while transferring the CLoWDS pods Adi Permitted me to use down to Sub-level 7 where they could be moved to the secret hangar should i be forced to evacuate with no access to the Hangar bay.
"Gordon,runanElectricalanalysisofthebloodsampleandactivatesubroutineKR-15-Gtosympatheticallyharmonizeyourprocessors.thentransfertothewarroom1"
I finished my statement as i slotted in the ring into Puck's back and watched the little being come to life. Leaving the lights on i left the Lab in a blur towards the War Room

In one section of level six the ceiling glowed red, sagged, and then fell through from above as the fourth thermal grenade running temperatures into the thousands of degrees finally melted through the floor. Commandos and Airborne Assault troops dropped in from above, this would be the lowest level they would penetrate. The commanding officer looked at his chrono.
::Two minutes, anything that isnt nailed down, grab it and run. No one doubt that this base is going up. Shift it!::
The troops fanned out grabbing everything that looked interesting, computers, components, datapads that might have been laying around. It didnt matter if there was something on it or not, that would be up to the techs. On the levels above they the Commandos had found all sorts of interesting things, including a small library apparently. It didnt matter at this immediate moment, what was important would be sorted out later. The commander turned and was the last to launch himself up the hole, and at level 4, his commander was the last to follow him out of the doomed facility. It would be a hairy flight back up the tunnel, but there wasnt much choice, no vehicles were going to come in and get them. And the clock was ticking down.
