The fight started to devolve once the droids had enough targets to track for each of them, many still headed towards the hanger as ships classed as more important targets in their programming, but nearly 120 turned on the smaller targets that were firing upon them. Most of the fire was ineffective, the smaller rounds simply being absorbed by armor plating the droids, but the larger automatic cannons had some effect at causing damage, a few droids even went down or simply blew up in thunderous flashes of light, sound, and metal shrapnel that buzzed and sang through the air at velocities that would tear apart stone.
From his vantage point Taung watched the droids react, almost appearing as a swarm reacting to a threat at this range. Someone was trying some unorthodox defense tactics by collapsing a wall. He couldnt see who or what damage it did, but it appeared a desperate move. How far does the drilling have left to go?
About four kilometers sir. Not quite one quarter.
Taung considered this. The tunneling machinery, the zenomech and the laser drills, were certianly helped by the rocky mountains, not having to deal with dirt or debris coming down into the tunnel that they were creating. But as the vehicles got closer, the defenders might notice some of the vibrations of the digging. With the defending forces apparently starting to get desperate and cluster up in tight defensive formations it was time, if for no other reason than to mask his second plane of attack.
Fourth and fifth commando companies are to report to the dig sight, along with the fourth and fifth battalions. The rest be ready to assault the complex itself. Pass the word to the artillery. Create a perimeter at the hanger entrance and march it out from there. Containment perimeter is to start at 1 kilometer radius and march inward until the two meet with saturation fire.
His orders were relayed and he turned back to watch the light show that was about to commence. To the north of the base the vessels that had been circling instead now turned to form up in preparation for an attack, great lines of craft got ready to saturate the area with smaller weapons fire when given the word, hoping that the ground artillery didnt quite get it all first. On either side of the valley walls the Puut'la and Ram'or artillery vehicles, and down in the valley the Besom class tanks all exchanged firing coordinates and set their weapons. The artillery captain stared at his chrono, letting it tick down to the minute and gave the order.
The dark trees lit up with flashes and thundering cracks of powerful cannons lobbing massive sometimes multiple ton high explosive plasma projectiles up into the air, the first volley carefully timed to all land at the same time in a massive shock effect, leaving little or no time to dive for cover before a longer suppressive saturation fire was begun where each individual weapon fired whenever it was fed coordinates from its own gunners following a pre planned pattern. The massive and less massive shells, the smallest coming from the Besom class tanks at 305mm the largest being over a meter in diameter from the Ram'or artillery vehicles, arced up to their maximum height and turned their noses back towards the planet, gravity inexorably calling them home. The only warning that death was coming, was that the droids suddenly turned and fled north and gained altitude as quickly as possible, more than half of them were not quite quick enough. A sacrifice Taung had considered and chosen droids to lead the attack instead of living troops.
The silence was deafening for a moment before the world seemed to disappear as the shells landed all at once. Great sheets of plasma flashing out at supersonic speed vaporized massive trees and small vines alike, their speed so great that the concussive wave of air that preceded them turned white as the vapor in the humid atmosphere were briefly forced to condense into clouds. The flashes and thunderous roar rippled through the valley, the very ground shaking from the explosions. A moment of stunned silence fell over the animals in the valley, those that could fly, did so, protesting the rude noises that they could not comprehend. Then the continuous thunder of artillery firing constantly in all sizes returned, and didnt go away. Taung almost felt sorry for those on the recieving end. Almost. Thier teeth would be trying to rattle loose from their heads. Bodies vaporized from direct or near direct hits, flash burns, some would be baked or flash steamed alive inside their own armor. Shrapnel would physically tear armor and bodies apart, and above all, the world would not stop shaking and the dust and smoke would be terrible, all consuming. A horrible psychological weapon was massed artillery, not just its physical effects... Even at a distance of nearly 10 kilometers the sound was near deafening, even through the protected helmet, it felt to Taung as if his boots were trying to send enough noise from the ground vibrations to make up for what his helmet blocked out.

ka-THUMP!!
The world simply exploded around the hangar as the last shuttle cleared the danger zone. The artillery barrage was, for lack of a better term, simply awesome. What had begun as singular thumps had turned into a literal earthquake as it tore outward through the front of the Hangar bay....and started to strike the very area that the QRD forces had so recently taken. In seconds, six hundred men were simply erased from existence. There wasn't even a chance to get out of the way, it had struck so rapidly, and with so much force. Caught just as unaware as his men, but a little further away, Adi was struck by the shockwave, and sent tumbling into a pillar, crashing through it.
Fifty percent of the defenders were killed in a single burst of artillery....and there wasn't a damn thing Adi could have done to stop it.
Matango struck the ground, and bounced...hard. The back plate of the armor had been damaged in the crash through the pillar, and when he hit the ground, sparks flew as the 25mm was torn from his shoulder. He was momentarily stunned, and for that moment, everything went silent. It was as if the whole world was in slow motion. The silence turned into a ringing...and the ringing turned into a dull roar.
...Nope...It was just Gregory spouting off about systems failure in thirty percent of the weapons and targeting system. Matango had missed the part where the A-AI had told him that the rear armor was at twenty percent structural integrity. Alerts were blaring in his helmet, On top of it, it felt like something had snapped in his shoulder when he had bounced, but through the adrenalin, not to mention the singular focus on his objective.
Objective complete. It was time to blow this popsicle stand.
::Attention, QRD forces! Fall back and exfil, immediately! Repeat, fall back and evac as planned. Get clear of the base, and get the hell outta here!::
Getting to his feet slowly, Adi saw that main power was at twenty-two percent. Personnel indicators showed less than two hundred men still left, and well over half of those weren't moving toward the hangar. That meant they were incapacitated beyond help. About 120 men were left, and still in combat-ready shape. As Matango tried yet again to take to the air, the repulsors sparked, and hiccuped, but got him airborne, and heading for the hangar. From the air, Adi could see the cloud of dust and dirt settling on the shattered remnants of what was the area around the hangar. Pieces of armor, duracrete, columns, fascia, and everything that had made up the ruins of the buildings was now strewn among, over, and under the remnants of the defenders of Carida.
In the sixteen plus years Adieumus had worked with the commando unit, they had barely lost more than a handful of members. In the span of a few minutes, almost the entire team had been rendered combat ineffective, and were dropping like flies as they made their dash for the hangar. Where there -were- a hundred and twenty or so making their way to the hangar, the number was now seventy...sixty...fifty...forty...
They were being systematically hunted, and killed like insects.
Barely ten had made it to the hangar entrance, but were surprised by a droid just outside the bay, and blasted into nothingness in the blink of an eye. With a roar, Adi flew headlong into the droid, fists first, at nearly the speed of sound. Milliseconds before he struck, Adi opened his hands, and the gauntlet repulsors fired in rapid succession....hoping to blow the massive droid in half and get into the hangar. At this point, Adi could care less if he survived. The mission to evacuate the base had succeeded, and everyone was out.
Waitaminute...no, they -weren't-....
::Monte!! Get the hell outta here!! The Mandalorians are entering the base, and everyone else is clear!! Go!! Now!! I'm going to stay behind, and make sure they don't get in from topside.
Time to light the candle, my brother. Good luck, May the Force Be With You.::
Cutting the comlink short, Adi turned, and faced the hangar door. Hopefully, they would think everyone was dead, and back off for a few minutes. Probably not, though....

I watched for what seemed like hours from my vantage point trying to garner any sign of what was happening… yes some of the info gordon was able to show me that QRD forces were dropping like flies. mostly because i refused to weaponize the exterior of the base for fear it would attract attention.
well that was how well that was going. at least the distributed beacons indicated the only people remaining that should be here were the few QRDs, Adi, and me. but from what i could gather from of the Downed QRD suits that still had visual link the number of troops that were deployed seemed minuscule. then a though occurred to me.
>>access personal command files >>>>Access Raiden. >>>>>>Remote fly out of the hangar and scan for other landing zones
It took a few moments for my speedy little fighter to make it out and up high enough to see any other sectors that could have been used as a landing pattern flying down as quietly as it could i got my answer in the form of a holocom window. at least 2 companies were digging through the ground trying to sneak in the lower way into the base. clever opponent.
>>access personal command files >>>>Access Raiden. >>>>>>Remote fire ion blasters at all targets
It would be largely ineffective, but what it should do, would be to draw attention from the drilling long enough to prep the sawdust to blow just as whoever was leading this charge poked through the shell. Then Adi's message came through
::Negative sir, you realize i am the only person in position to trigger the explosion of this base. you may be leader of Watch, but you gave me the authority over this base. so when it comes to protocols, I out rank you, sir. i am sending every mobile droid i have remaining to your position and sending a hard link command into Gregory's memory. Find a way to get the hangar troops to sub level 4. the black king is trying a 4th dimension arsenal sneak.::
i couldn't be sure if Adi even knew how chess, as far as i was taught was played. in a 4th dimension Arsenal sneak, A player would send their pieces into battle to take a square. then for some reason they would yield the capture to their opponent just so they could maneuver their pieces out of sight from their opponent with the Distinction that at any moment the pieces could return to the board in position for a surprise mate.
That was, precisely how i saw the act of trying to tunnel in from miles away. from my perspective, the attackers were approx 5 mins from being within blast density of the wall…8 from entering the fort. at this point there was no more choice for me.
"Computer, access complete master control. Architect Override: Gamma, Zeta, Delta ait-ait-one-seven-six"
there was a beep and suddenly i had command of every function in the base
>>access energy management >>>>Access Generator >>>>>>increase production rate to 100% >>>>>>Decrease output level to 90%
>>>>>>Decrease output level to 75%
>>>>>>Decrease output level to 50%
>>>>>>Decrease output level to 10%
>>>>>>Increase output level to 25%
Knowing the open coms that Adi had a tendency to keep, he would probably have seen the same counter as me and now knew the time remaining. still knowing Adi, i would have to call him
::ADI! the candle is lit, and it should explode just as second group breaks through the wall you have 11m 11s. make a wish and get the Bogan out of dodge. Rendezvous at Norton Trips 0 ::
not knowing what to expect from this second grouping, I planned one last surprise
>> access computer memory >>>>Access security commands >>>>>> reroute all security protocols into profile "Sucker" security level zero.
then in the most nonsensical voice i could muster i spouted off
"November-India-Alpha-Sierra-bissotwo-uniform-yankee-oscar"
when the computer confirmed the Lock i knew it was done. Adi's and my security profiles were shredded. The war room was locked down. there was no way an enemy could mimic the voice i just made… and i only had 9 m 47 s to get the heck out of dodge. running for the coward's hatch i opened it and whistled for puck to follow. but as i started to run down the corridor, something changed.

As dad ran down the hall, I stopped at the entrance and turned to face the war room. i wasn't moving
"Puck we have to go."
I didn't move. i almost felt a tear roll down my cheek
"Puck, come on… please"
<<Dad… when the base goes splodey, it will go splodey in all directions, including down this tunnel… you need all the buffer you can get…>>
"But puck, you will be…"
That was the last argument Daddy gave. feeling my tail rise, i felt my batteries get changed one last time. i had maximum power in me and i could feel it. when that bomb blew, i would hold it back for as long as i could before my batteries gave out and the explosion engulfed me as well

Taung nodded.
Cease fire. Lets hit them.
He ignited the engines on his back, along with 4000 men and all of his commandos took to the air and quickly swooped down towards the smoking, burning maelstrom as the last of the artillery rounds landed before they were even halfway. Twenty MAAT transports came in and laid down their own suppressive fire, hunting the last QRD troops who were exposed without cover. The airborne assault troops flared already firing as they landed in the smoking shell of what was ruins...now just charred, melted, and flattened ruins. Their radar and thermal units working overtime as they sorted out dust and debris and targets which they put under ruthless fire with heavy blaster rifles and missiles where necessary.
Taung landed, his Nynir Payload Weapon in his hands, searching for targets as he entered the hanger, immediately locking on the person in damaged armor who had just run into the open space. Taung snapped off a pair of high powered blaster bolts from the weapon at his back. Droids started entering the hanger, a few that had survived and turned back once it became safe and started prowling forwards, looking for things to destroy.
Underground the rapid digging of the zenomach and the laser drills broke through the Jedi Base at the fourth level and commandos poured in, fanning out quickly knowing their time was short.

It got deathly silent. In the distance, the reports of the artillery was replaced with jetpacks taking to the air. Adi's HUD, though cracked and malfunctioning somewhat, read in the neighborhood of four thousand troopers take to the air, and all were converging on the Hangar. In the momentary lull, however, Matango wasn't idle. Tapping into the sparse defenses, Adi took control of the defensive laser turrets,, and trained them on the entrance to the hangar. Just inside the hangar, with the holes from the fatal wounds still smoking, was the corpse of one of the QRD commanders....
It was Delta Two. He was one of the final men to fall in the onslaught.
Lt. Nathan Stone had worked with Adieumus for over twenty years now. He was one of the first people to accept Adi when he had come to join the New Republic Senate, and one of his most ardent supporters ever since. To Matango, he was family...his brother. They had fought together, bled together, cried together, and had each other's back. Now, he was gone, torn to pieces by Mandalorian tyrants hell bent on killing every single force user, and anyone who supported them.
His death would not be in vain.
Choking back tears, Adi scanned the man's CLoWDS armor. He still had a functioning 25mm cannon, and about a hundred and fifty rounds. Removing the cannon and its ammunition, Adi brought it further back into the hangar. His own suit still had about fifty rounds of ammo as well, but the weapon anchors on the shoulder plate wer damaged beyond use when the CLoWDS armor had lost the original primary weapon. The Jedi Master had his A-AI drop the ammunition on the ground, and he then loaded it into the feed of the other 25mm. Opening the panel on the left wrist, Adi disconnected the power cable to the repulsors, and using a hasty wiring diagram cobbled together by Gregory, got power to the formidable cannon. It would have to be hand carried, but it might prove a little more effective than just punching the incoming troopers.
Next step in the process, Adi had the 'Natalia' warmed up, her shields raised, and her weapons hot. Gregory could link with the ship, and use it as another defensive platform to hold the Mandalorians back for just a few more moments. The Arkanian had already figured that he wasn't going to leave Carida alive, but be damned, he was going to take out as many as he could before he was taken down. He was the last defender standing in the base as far as he knew, and he would make the Mandalorians remember the name Adieumus Matango.
::Sir, we have issues ....They have breached the lower levels of the base. Apparently, the arty was a screen to hide the incoming boring machines, and they are now pouring into the facility from level four. Your suit is at twenty five percent power, and we are losing power at an accelerated rate due to damage in a dozen locations. At the current rate of power consumption, we have about five minutes of combat effectiveness.
We are, in essence, sitting ducks, sir. We need enough time to get to the 'Natalia' and evac.:: :::We aren't evacuating, Gregory. We have a job to do, and we will do it.: ::But sir....:: ::Do not countermand my order, Gregory. You may have a smart assed sense of humor, but your programming still dictates that you follow a command in the long run. Now, prep what we can, and brace yourself.
This is gonna be a rough ride.::
Gliding back to the back of the hangar, and putting the "Natalia" in a rearward nook as well, he locked the hangar entrance in his glitching HUD. No sooner had he done so, the men began entering the hangar, and one of them fired two heavy blaster bolts. If it weren't for Gregory anticipating the trajectory of the weapon's fire as the man brought it to bear, Adi would have been toast. It had been Gregory's 'intelligence' that they were both still alive.
Extremely lucky, for once.
Adieumus opened fire, locking the one who had fired the shots in the HUD. Other targets began to pop up, and Gregory assisted the aiming of the 25mm cannon by moving the weapon ever so slightly if Matango's hip-firing wasn't right on. At two rounds a second, six armor piercing rounds flew from the barrel, intent on ripping a hole in anything they hit. The laser turrets, though not that strong, also opened fire, and hopefully, they would strike a weak point in the armor of some of the incoming troops. The weapons on the 'Natalia' were silent for now, the moment wasn't right yet to engage with the starfighter.
...Yet.

Taung had two large projectiles zip past him from the apparently lone survivor as his men flooded in past him and he continued to move to one side at a run, firing as he went, his two 3t3 concussion missiles erupting from his back and arcing quickly down at the defender. The concussion from that cannon was impressive, but it distinctively lacked a rate of fire. Something that would be telling as more of his troops slipped in the doorway and started to lay down suppressive fire in great waves and a Pirimm'uliik droid forced its way into the hanger, its electronic voice squealing in battle rage and promptly smashed a broken fighter apart with its shockwave generating rods before looking for something else worthy of its attention. The man standing at the back of the hanger certainly qualified.

The laser turrets, while pretty much ineffective at taking down the ever-increasing numbers of troopers pouring into the hangar, were more than effective in shooting down the missiles that came sailing in at Matango before they were in range to do any damage. The fire from the troopers that had gotten through the hangar door began to come in though, and Matango was forced to move to keep from being taken out. Each round from the 25mm jolted him a little bit, and the suit's repulsors had to compensate for the recoil. This limited Adi's speed, and agility somewhat....but he couldn't stop.
If the volume of fire increased any more, it would be lights out.
Aiming the weapon at the roof above the hangar entrance, Matango opened fire, and blasted holes in the top of the pillars holding up the front end of the structure. With a groan, and a mighty roar, the entrance collapsed, hopefully trapping the ones that had gotten in, catching a few that were entering by surprise and burying them...and delaying the others from getting inside.
Noting that the first one he had targeted was moving forward, Gregory peeled off a few shots from the heavy laser cannons on board the "Natalia", along with a pair of shots from the ion cannons to slow the man's movement down, and force him into cover possibly. Adi himself continued to fire shots from the 25mm toward the troopers already inside the hangar.
The ammunition was rapidly being depleted, though...and it wouldn't hold out long....

Taung ducked behind a loading vehicle as the large bolts flashed past and the droid that had been left unengaged charged at the active ship, firing its laser cannons and ion cannons as it rocketed across the hanger. Taung slid to a stop and pulled a pair of grenades from his harness and threw the fuel air grenades towards the person with the auto cannon before aiming his weapon at the ceiling above the persons head and began firing bolts into the framework. Two could play that game.
Near the hanger entrance the elite troops didnt stop to help their comrades that were trapped but instead continued to press forwards shifting behind cover and increasing their amount of aimed fire to a blistering storm as they too launched missiles at the active fighter. The fifteen men didnt need to conserve ammo. Thirty rockets quickly passed the sound barrier only a few feet from their launch points. As troopers reached cover and paused for a moment they too pulled grenades and hurled them in the general vicinity of the lone defender before going back to laying down heavy fire. As the hanger had fallen in, it handnt simply stopped being an opening, the roof itself had opened holes, and droids and airborne assault troops started ripping the debris out of their way to get inside.

There was a quick pair of thumps, a bit of sailing through the air, and a very sudden stop as Adieumus slammed into a pillar, and dropped to the ground, followed by a lot of white. The Arkanian had been thrown backward nearly sixty feet at a higher velocity that he would have liked, followed by the unceremonious splat into a pillar and crashing into the ground. His leg had been in a very awkward angle, and had been broken in the impact, not to mention his shoulder had been bent at a really strange angle.
It too was probably broken.
His head had banged off the inside of the helmet, and blood was now gushing from a gash caused by the breaking glass. He was rapidly losing consciousness, when the roof caved in over top of him. The last thing he saw was Gregory piloting the Natalia through the hole created, and avoiding the crashing rubble....then the world went black.

Soldiers rushed forwards after the explosions right behind the droid that was still angrily charging towards the fighter, taking a good swipe at it after a blast from the laser cannons at well closer than it should have, and then the ship was gone through the hole, rubble dropping down on it as it squealed electronic rage one last time at its fleeing prey, its processors telling it that it would never catch the vessel at that escape acceleration and debris blocked any further firing options.
Taung stared darts through the collapsing hole as troops continued to pour around him.
::HOLD! Prep evac. There is nothing down there that can't be gotten at from the tunnel already. No point to attacking further. No one else is leaving this base alive.::
The troops and droids turned to quickly extracting their injured and dead from the rubble, grabbing bodies and parts of their fallen enemies as MAAT/CG gunships added what they could and began loading the injured and moving everyone away.

It didn't take but a minute or two for the Mandalorians to exfiltrate from the demolished Hangar Bay, but Adi was still out cold. The Mandalorians had really done a number on him, and he was laying a crumpled heap underneath a pile of duracrete. Gregory, however, was still online, and monitoring the situation, along with the Arkanian Jedi's vitals. Once the bucketheads had fallen back out of the area, Gregory tried to wake the knocked-out Matango to no avail.
It was up to him to get them out.
The "Natalia" had been damaged during the fight, but it was still functional. Using his control of the ship, he brought the fighter back in from it's position nearby. It took thirty precious seconds, however, and the timer on the base self-destruct were dwindling....They were down to about four minutes as it was already, and he had to get Adi on board the ship, not to mention get clear of the huge explosion that was sure to come most directly after 'Zero:Zero:Zero'.
When the fighter landed, Gregory moved over to it as rapidly as the damaged armor would allow them to move. One of the leg actuators were shot, the left arm of the suit was a tangled mess of sharp edges and wiring, the faceplate had been almost totally caved in, and the HUD was in a million pieces on the inside of the helmet. Not a one of the weapons systems were online, the repulsor movement system was useless, so Gregory was reduced to hopping along on one good leg....without causing any more injury to the occupant within. Activating a medical system that somehow still functioned, the A-AI had a shot administered that would do a little bit to slow the bleeding of the many wounds that Adieumus had suffered.
By the time they reached the starfighter, there were only about two minutes left.
With a huge strain on the suit's already-shattered state, Gregory hopped upward, and grabbed with one arm the canopy of the fighter. Pulling the Jedi up inside of the suit, Gregory opened the back hatch slowly, and deposited the unconscious occupant within into the cockpit. Gregory then activated the separation device on the CLoWDS armor, and the various pieces attached themselves to the Natalia in places where they wouldn't cause damage or turbulence.
One minute left....
The 'Natalia' lifted off from the rubble of the hangar, and made for atmosphere. Gregory kept control of the ship, and steered well-clear of any of the aerial patrols flying over the doomed facility like angry bees. In the fight in the hangar bay, the targeting system computer had been damaged, rendering the weapons systems inoperable for the time being. A fight right now would surely mean the end of them all.
With a haste befitting someone in a tremendous hurry, Gregory took the ship up into the high atmosphere, and popped out into orbit.

From the backside of a ridge Taung looked up as a starfighter streaked upwards towards space and his eyes narrowed. He knew he should have put a few more shots into that body on the hanger floor... The timer clicked down to zero and the sky was turned white with the exploding reactors beneath the...no longer in existence Jedi Base. The shockwave arrived a moment later blasting searing heat, steam, dust, and debris up the ridge protecting Taung, his troops and vehicles, the vehicles on the floor and sides of the valley had taken shelter back behind the landed ships shields. Slowly the silence took back over the valley, revealing the depth of the crater that the Jedi Base had become. The blast wasnt as bad as it could have been, the reactor having been buried multiple levels below ground, and the ground itself shielded the troops from the damage that could have proven devastating to his forces if it had gone off a kilometer above the ground. Taung turned with a deep sigh.
::Back to the ships. We have another battle to prep for.::
The troops quickly started gathering up and boarding the ships.

The three Mandokar class ships finished loading, having lost a total of 10 men injured and 37 Primmu'liik droids, and began pulling from the surface and back to their native home of the stars.
