There was an ever-so-slight tug on Adieumus' psyche, followed by the student pulling away, and squeezing his fists. While it did not go un-noticed by Adi, he did not say anything to him...not yet. He didn't want to embarrass himself, nor the learner. A continuation of the original subject was in order. Perhaps later he could ask the young man why he winced as such.
Yes. My saber comes equipped with a trigger of my own design. It serves two purposes actually.... Unclipping the simple black hilt from his hip, Adi spun it in his fingers rapidly as he brought it into his hand. The quick spin around his fingers brought the hilt to a position where Adi was handing it to the learner as they waited for the turbolift. Take a look. Not only does it activate and deactivate far more rapidly, but that thumb pad only recognizes those I have programmed to be able to use it. It can be tuned to each individual user's biosignature, to prevent the weapon being stolen and used against me. It's saved my hide more times than I can count, between the quick activator/deactivator, and the bio recog pad. The knights I've trained all have one.
The indicator 'beep' from the turbolift signaled its arrival. Taking Master Sontir's gracious offer to go first, Matango entered, and turned around, waiting for the others to board.

If the Knight had noticed his outburst, he didn't mention it. For that, Miras was grateful. Shaken but clinging to the last shreds of his composure, the youth nodded appreciatively and took the saber in his hands, feeling the weight of the hilt and running a thumb along its length. Master Ielyn, one of the instructors at the Academy on Corellia, had a lightsaber with a recognition pad, but this was the first time he'd had a chance to see one up close. After another moment Miras handed the weapon back.
"An impressive tool." Certainly better than the training sabers he'd been forced to make use of at the Academy, he thought with more than a touch of envy.
Another moment and they'd joined the other two men at the turbolift. Miras ran one thumb along the length of his scar while he waited, from the left corner of his mouth back towards his ear. A nervous habit. His guarded green eyes shifted to the oldest of the men, a stern-looking warrior who stood straight and rigid. He looked familiar; the youth could have sworn he'd seen the man at the Academy on Corellia, though when he couldn't recall.Miras smiled sardonically. "Never better."
He waited for Adieumus to board, and then stepped into the turbolift after him.

After ushering in everybody before him, Master Will Son'tir enters the turbolift and the door closes behind them up the High Council Spire. . .

Garrek exited the main lift, and found his dorm room easily enough after following the indicating signs for room numbers. He was pleasantly surprised to see that he had a windowed room, overlooking the glorious cityscape. The sunset, unfortunately, was visible from the other side of the temple, but still, the city looked as majestic and surreal as his Jedi compatriots had told him back at Felucia.
The bed was the perfect size for him. Almost felt like a hotel, though.
He undressed and put his robes and garments into the cycler in the corner of the room to get all the sweat smell out from the long hyperspace jump, and hit the shower. The one good thing about such long hyperspace jumps is that jumplag didn't much matter. It exhausted you no matter the time difference. Just arrive at your destination and wait til the sun goes down, and you're set.
The sun was going down, and that's what Garrek did.
In bed, he started thinking about what he'll be asked to do first by the Headmasters. Until then, he figured he'd hit up the archives in the morning, occupy his time by learning anything that interested him.
...Lights out.

Coruscant’s Jedi Temple, Residential Area – Garrek’s Roomy RoomHer name is Cherry Mesmer Avatar. At least, that is what she will tell you it is, but throughout time, she has been known by many names. Here, on Coruscant, even in the modern age of so-called enlightenment, she has been regarded as a celestial angel, a being from a supernatural plane mortals can scarcely begin to comprehend. Her face is easily recognizable for its cheerful and constant smile, such as now, as she quietly watches Garrek Lars Kanos in his slumber. She is sitting crosslegged right next to him, resting her chin on her palms. Garrek Lars Kanos, she thinks, it is time...she touches a glowing fingertip to his forehead and fills him with energy, as if he has slept a full night’s rest.“Awaken!” She says with a soft giggle, the room is brightened by her ethereal glow, blanketing the room in a soft color and light. A soothing as well as strengthening sensation emanates from her and her light. Garrek would recognize her from faint memories of something concerning her in a book or holovid. But he would not likely remember that they have met before...when he experienced or came to the doors of death. She greeted him then, and guided him...back to the living. Of that incident, he would only remember vaguely that she is strikingly familiar. But other than that, there is an honest-to-goodness young girl sitting comfortably right next to him on the bed.
And he might have thought this kind of things wouldn’t start until ten days from now...

Of that incident, he would only remember vaguely that she is strikingly familiar. But other than that, there is an honest-to-goodness young girl sitting comfortably right next to him on the bed.
And he might have thought this kind of things wouldn’t start until ten days from now... Visions clouded with scenes of violence, war, and battle. Laser bolts, metal, and sabers all clashing about in a fury of color and an aura of fire. One minute, Garrek was minding his own business in the streets of Coruscant, and the next....this is what happened. Emotion was absent, somehow. Which was weird, because in past fights, he'd been all over the place in anticipation, worry, and yes..even a tinge of fear every now and then. But here, he was fighting those who engaged him without much flinching. There were experessions on his face, but not the worried or scared type. No, he was determined, resolute, and purposeful in his movements. Lips pursed tightly, sabers crisp and concise in their brief, rapid swipes. Blaster bolts bouncing away as he remained engaged. Another Mando descended on his position from the corner of a nearby rooftop, his jetpack whistling downward, beskar sword drawn and held to the sky...but once the Mando reached Garrek...
A rather invasive feeling about his forehead. It felt as though he'd been stomped on by a bantha's foot from the effect alone, yet it lacked the immense pain that would have accompanied it. And was that the voice of a girl? His eyes popped open with a slight gasp, and noticed a face looking straight down at him. A female face.
"Whoa-ho!" he scurried off the bed. Then having realized he was in his boxer briefs, he called a pillow to his hand in haste to cover up the 'normal' effects of a decent night's rest. "Er-r...um. ..Hi?" his head twitched to the side in his bewilderment. "...Is this the way things are done here? Certainly would have heard about this from Hakov were that the case.."
The girl herself didn't look a day over the age of eighteen, which made Garrek feel all the more awkward. He had no idea if she was another student, an unruly one at that, or if she was merely sent to make sure he was up and about in the early hours. He'd set his chronometer to go off at 0630, and it was 0615 now. Guess the 'time cushion' he thought he was giving himself wasn't up to snuff. Her smile, though...it didn't seem mischievous or wanton in any way. No, she wasn't here for some unabashed 'fun', thankfully. Besides, this was THE Jedi Temple. Girls like that wouldn't last long in places like this anyways.
But just as her touch had left its first slight imprint on Garrek's subconscious memories, even as he stood in shock and disbelief at what just happened, she spoke again just before that feeling of familiarity could take full hold...

"Hi there!" The girl greets with great mirth, giggling away. She's either fascinated with a good looking man, just a very happy person...or she's high on something.
Money's probably on the latter.
She looks definitely younger than even eighteen, and her attire presently looks like someone who's very much at home with her surroundings and even pajama-like. She grins up at him, allowing her ethereal glow to illuminate the room a little more, and for it to quickly become obvious that she is far more than just a young girl, and strangely, not a Jedi, as what she appears to be doing can't quite be sensed in the Force, but is felt more through life itself. Like having a direct source of power instead of something vague and all-encompassing as the Force. Her smile brightens up more, if that is possible."It's been some time since we last met." She says, leaning back a little, and then there seems to be a sensation of a shift in balance."Your life is filled with so much wonder and adventure. Funny isn't it?" She is suddenly standing at his right. Or rather, Garrek hears her voice to his right, and if he turns to look at the girl now standing next to him, the one on the bed disappears as soon as she's out of his peripherals.

That giggle, as cheerful and joyous as it may have sounded, made Garrek all the more nervous as he glanced at the doorway, wondering if anyone could hear in the hall, or even in the next room. She looked ready to snuggle up in bed, whether with Garrek or not remained to be seen...but again, he didn't catch that vibe from her at all. In fact, the vibe was now something he took notice of, as it was coalescing about her in a goldish cloud. "..She's...."
His quizzical look then faded into more of a calmer and more subjective inquisitiveness. "..full of...Life. That aura is unlike anything I've ever.."
He just stood there, recoiling back from the neck, eyebrow chocked up. "...Last met? I would have..."
Startled to hear ANOTHER female's voice in his room, he dreadfully turned to see...HER?! He looked back to the bed, only to find it was empty. His head darted back and forth a few times. Was that a triple take or quadru--
Forget it. He shook his head to at least shed off the blistering sense of frustration. Holding the pillow steadfastly to himself with one hand, the other hand raised in his exclamation, minding his volume in the process. "..Who ARE you?! How'd you get in here?"

She just gives him one of the prettiest, most cheerful smiles ever seen, and then tilts her head to the left, until it’s completely tilted...well, no one can say she doesn’t have a flexible neck. Because that’s almost inhumanly flexible; normal people would have severe whiplash and possibly broken vertebrae by now. She’s studying him, and doing something really weird with her eyebrows. They’re...for lack of a more perfect description, dancing. Like the GIF picture in this profile’s avatar, or the signature picture below this post. Oh yeah, that’s totally her by the way, if you can’t tell.
“Oh,” she says softly, that pretty smile never leaving her lips, “You really don’t remember me. That’s okay, it happens to most people who come back.”
She then goes silent, and just smiles at him, but then Garrek hears her voice...somewhere else again. “This place is changing. The fates of the galaxy will soon be coming to a head...” She’s now standing at the window, looking outside, hands clasped behind her back. While her voice clearly speaks, the smiling girl before him is not moving at all. And of course, Garrek can easily surmise, that if he looks away, he’ll see that she is standing at the window as described, and of course, the one that he is facing will undoubtedly disappear the moment she is out of his peripheral view. The one at the window turns around and looks at him, continuing her dialogue, “Coruscant will be swept up by the winds of change, and you’ll be at the heart of it.”
She saunters up to him in a...cute way? She is definitely not trying to be seductive, and even if she is, Garrek can be confident that he would see a Jailbait alarm in neon red that will appear over her head. While leaving him flustered, she takes his hand and shakes it, as if he had given her his hand, “Cherry Mesmer Avatar.” She says, revealing her name at last to Garrek, in response to his controlled outburst – so as to keep the peace, and this conversation, just between him and her – asking her who she is. “You are Garrek Lars Kanos, born February 14 (I know that doesn’t make sense here, but there it is), on Chandrila, age twenty-seven. You are a Jedi Knight.”
Evidently, someone has been reading her holonet gossip columns. Has to be, right? Jedi Knight, well, hey, it’s a Jedi Temple, what would you expect to find in a Jedi Temple? Sith Lords? The knight title could have been a lucky guess. But what about the other details? And why is she still holding his hand? Hey, what is she doing? She’s dangling his hand like a rag doll, looking at it curiously. “Hmm! You’ve grown very strong since the first time I saw you, when you were born...”
Uhm...duh? It’s what happens when a person grows up right? Is this girl retarded? HEY! Did she say she was there when Garrek was born???
Cue the anticipated double take.

Just after the Meeting at the High Council Spire
Both an office and his quarters, it was spartan. Well, when compared to some of the other lavish styles known on Coruscant. The main interior was his office. At the center was a desk and a chair. A couch, small table, and a few chairs rested in one corner. A window looked out across Coruscant from the Temple's high vantage. Few adornments littered the room. Mostly paintings of jungles. Distant planets, Felucia, Ossus, Endor's Sanctuary Moon, Yavin IV.
A door sealed away the living chambers. They consisted of a small kitchen, bedroom, and fresher station. Simple luxuries for a simple Jedi. A lone painting hung on the bedroom wall: the ice caves of Ilum. In the kitchen, a hologram of an A-wing rotated slowly on the counter.
Devlin walks through the door and straight to the couch. He shuts his eyes and inhales deeply then exhales slowly.
Meetings were not his favorite things. They were, however, a necessity when one was a Jedi on the Council. Not even hermits could escape them; though he did try.
Devlin enjoys a few moments of silence afforded to him on the bustling city-planet.
It wasn't the duration of the meeting. He enjoyed discussions with old friends. Coruscant just wasn't home. It was too urban. Only forests interspersed among the parks within the city. He preferred cities interspersed among breaks in the forest.
Next time, I attend by holo.
He silences his thoughts as he begins to meditate on the recent discussions, committing the important information to memory and discerning how the Force moves and guides the Jedi Order.

Just after the Meeting at the High Council Spire
Kel'Al glanced uncertainly in both directions as he exited the lift on an unfamiliar level of the Coruscant Jedi Temple's residential area. Master Dewe had invited him to discuss the situation with the planet Vortex and its fanatical ruler, Seleevan Khar, and the Corellian was grateful for the High Council member's time. But he hadn't set foot inside the Temple on Coruscant for several years, and there had been at least two damaging attacks on the building since his last visit. The new renovations were beautiful, but they were also disorienting.
Spotting Devlin's quarters at last, he paused, then rapped softly on the door.

Devlin's eyes snap open at the sound.
He was expected a fellow Jedi. Kel'al Raganella had important information to impart upon the Council. Devlin was willing to hear it and pass it along where it was most needed.
The Cardooinian stands, walks to his door, and opens it with a warm smile.
"Master Raganella, please come in."
Devlin gestures toward the couch, its small table, and the chair beside it.
"Please make yourself comfortable, my friend."

The young Corellian's face cracked into the well-renowned crooked smile of his planet, and stepped inside, sinking wearily onto the couch. His faced still showed some traces of the sleepless night on Vortex a few days prior. "Thank you, Master Dewe." He sighed, and glanced at the side table. "I know that much of the council's time and attention is taken up with the rumors of war with the Mandalorians, but Corellia and her neighbors has faced it's own threat. We were attacked by forces belonging to a Sith warlord named Seleevan Khar, and several Jedi were kidnapped. In an effort to rescue our captured friends, I led a small team in a covert rescue operation to his capital planet, Vortex. We needn't have bothered, as Khar released the prisoners of his own accord, and sent them home with a carefully crafted peace offer to Corellia. An offer, I might add, that may be politically risky for the Jedi to oppose."
His grin melted away as he got to the more somber part of the adventure. "And yet, the taint of the dark side hangs over all of this, in ways that remains hidden from me. The classified medical report from one of our ex-captives indicated that he had been tortured, although he himself has said very little about what happened. I'm not sure he even knows, and so I have refrained from asking. The Masters want him to heal, and to prove himself once more as a Jedi, before we pry too deeply. It is important that he move forward, rather than dwelling on the past and seeking revenge."
He paused, thinking how to summarize the situation. He knew Devlin was every bit as busy as he was. "But I'll make this short. I have two primary areas which I wish to bring to the attention of the High Council." He reached within his robes and produced a datacard. "First, here is a copy of all the data our team gathered while on the ground on Vortex. It isn't much, but I believe it's the first time in years that we've gotten any first-person data from that planet. Second, I wish to warn you about Khar. He wants attention, and I still don't know why. Given his dark side allegiances, we can assume it is ultimately a trap, but there is wisdom in keeping one's enemies close. He may yet be useful to us."

By the time Raylia had reached her rooms, there were two well armed guards stationed by her door and a portable force field generator ready to be deployed. Raylia entered her apartment, the decor full of old relics and tomes from years of her research across the galaxy. She carried the girl into her room, and laid her gently on the bed just about the time a doctor from the infirmary entered. She moved aside so that the doctor could get an assessment of her current vitals and try to determine what had caused the girl to experience syncope. The middle aged woman looked to be Arkanian, her silver eyes examining the girl carefully. Raylia had insisted that the doctor be nonforce sensitive. She touched the doctor's shoulder to reassure her. "I must report to the Council Spire. Please, be gentle with her and should she wake, let her know that I will return shortly but that she is safe and no harm will come to her. There are books in the other room if she wishes to read until I get back."
Raylia smiled politely and left her rooms presently, not looking forward to the meeting as she never really enjoyed the trips to the carpet.

Some undetermined amount of time later, the Construct groggily opens her turnip and rust colored eyes to the grand and brand new world. Whatever room this was spun end over end in some severe combination of vertigo and exhaustion. It was impossible for her to determine how many more "pumps" she had in that reserve of energy housed within the crystal, but her guess was not many more. The scanners needed to pinpoint such crushingly detailed amounts of voltage were currently housed aboard the Saya, but such considerations would soon be rendered irrelevant should she not absorb some kind of power to facilitate the continuation of her activation.
Good, a containment field.
Thankfully, these were Jedi she was dealing with. If she would have placed her hand against the repulsive wall of energy of a Sith containment field, this story would have ended explosively and painfully right then and there. Oh, the buzzing and shock caused a disturbance and burned the tips of her fingers as Vexxtal pressed her left hand against the wall, not to mention raising a racket that promptly bought sentries to investigate, but she took it stoically.
Excellent, that much should give her a reserve of pumps for at least a few hours. Now fully awake thanks to her consumption, the shard is aware of two points: one, her stomach is gnawing as her body sends the chemical signals most commonly known as hunger, two, she feels an intense sense of shame.
It used to be another abstract, but after that fiasco in the archives, she could understand it as the attempt to correct the damage you've caused, but failing.

The Arkanian woman sitting next to the bed smiled kindly at the girl and waved away the guards. Her long hair was pulled back from her slightly wrinkled and tan face with a series of intricate braids down her back. She spoke softly, and soothingly to the girl, doing her best to put her at ease.
"Oh rest easy child. My name is Dr. Gilana. Master Venci asked me to sit with you in her apartment while she had to report to the high council meeting. She was worried about you when you passed out in the library so she had you brought here and asked me to look after you. So, could you tell me what your name is and how you're feeling?"

Was it that Vexxtal's awareness was abysmal in a weakened state, or was this doctor so irrelevant to her current status that she did not even see her as alive and active until she started speaking? Had this been an hour ago it would have definitely been the latter, but with the troubling commentary bequeathed unto the Construct, the second response seemed to stem from a place of selfishness, of a self as universe mentality that would categorize such interpretations as being "Sith." So Vexxtal assumed it was the gentler view: that her physical body was failing her abnormally and at a consistent rate. A modicum of patience would most likely ensure continued existence.
Not that she really cared one way or another. That doesn't come until one has something worth fighting for.
"I have been told that my name is Vexxtal. Queries into the meaning and significance of such a designation lead to information on crystals; particularly, Force enhanced crystals. At the moment, I feel hunger and shame. I can also tell by the hormones being released by my various glands."

The middle aged doctor motioned for Vexxtal to follow her as she walked out of Raylia's bedroom into the small kitchen she had. The cabinets and fridge were well stocked with a manner of interesting looking vegetarian dishes and meals. She pulled out a container of something and sniffed it.
"Looks like Master Venci's veggie soup. Would you like a bowl of it warmed for you? I think I can round up some bread and cheese as well if you want."

Do you have any plans to keep him close or shall I ask the Council their opinion and dispatch a team to keep the Order informed?"He knew, if Kel'Al had no plans, either the Shadows or the Watchmen would be up for the task...but which the High Council wanted to use, he'd need to find out. "He is. The Vor worship him as a god, and he made a strong case to Master Nelente that trying to convince them otherwise would do them more harm than good. I know we do not condone despotic rulers, but he seems to be more benevolent than most. The people had an acceptable standard of living, so far as my limited observations could determine." Kel'Al tilted his head slowly from one side to the other as he considered his response. It was a complicated situation, and he was not entirely sure they had made the right call on Khar's treaty. But they'd been backed into a corner, and there had really only been one pathway out."Please tell me if I am wrong, Master, but I believe our main concern for the time being should be Khar's intentions beyond Vortex." He rubbed his clean-shaven chin thoughtfully. "He is confused about the political division between the Jedi Order and the Republic civilian government, and so he has made a request to the Corellian Jedi for a peace treaty that we have no standing to negotiate. Not wanting to tell him no and anger him, but also not wanting to endorse it, we passed the offer on to the planetary government of Corellia, and now it is bogged down in the bureaucracy." "Beyond that, however, I have no further plans." He sighed. "Khar is stubborn, and I fear we will hear from him soon enough, whether we dispatch a team or not. I came here to make sure that the Council was aware of the threat and would be ready to respond to his next move." ### Aside: If the Jedi Master had only known, months ago when this discussion was held, Khar planned to come to Coruscant itself, and is in orbit this very minute, negotiating for a meeting with the Republic and the Jedi. No team had been sent in the mean time, but Khar's new proposal might very well prompt further action.
