Rhiannon listened. And she looked. Oh yes indeed she did look. The woman had been pasted. Half of her face was gone. But she showed no disgust or worse still immediately heaped pity all over her; Rhiannon merely listened as she would to anyone else. That was empathy. That sort of dignity separated her from many. She nodded and smiled at the mention of her work; the woman was well-read. Her daughter? The subtle change in tone and pitch hit Rhiannon's ear in that declaration. Maureen it was but Maureen was not the woman's daughter. But she detected no benign intention in the statement; the woman was protection them. Grace. Rhiannon also knew straight away that Grace was not the women's given name but again no bad intent was in the lie. And then it fell out. She had been attacked. Might all things Light forgive her for Rhiannon begged to hear that the big fellow but a few tables away had responded. Most decidedly. But that was a primitive notion and she brushed it away. Responding she assured Grace -Rhiannon- "She is welcome here." Eyes filled with concern -Rhiannon- "How are you now?" Her head turned to the left with the question

Grace watched. This woman was Father Merrin from The Exorcist; she made one feel peaceful merely by her presence. Their was a quiet power about her that was quite captivating. And so she spoke freely. She felt that it might take time to drop the bomb, indeed she believed that she might never say it but here it came out effortlessly -Grace- "Maureen destroyed it." Smiling wearily -Grace- "She annihilated it with a thought." Desperate voice matching the troubled look on face -Grace- "And I don't know what to do with her."

What Rhiannon heard was shocking. And here she felt no slick lie or any deception for that matter. What she did hear was terrifying. And beautiful. The two words lined up so well: a Terrible Beauty. This was an important moment. Rarely a power that simply defies all logic, even among those who deal with the supernatural every day, manifests itself and when it does all are bound to respond. And indeed far to oft they do not. So here she needed to be exceptionally mindful. She smiled asking -Rhiannon- "What do you... what does she need?"

Grace looked at the table, right hand caressing her chin the left scratching where her eye once was sighing deep -Grace- "I think that we should be training her every moment of the day...." With an upward nod at Boland -Grace- "He thinks that she should be playing in the mud like all 7 year olds." Right hand waving out -Grace- "Briget wants her building weapons of mass destruction....." Hands up in the air and eyes wide she sighed again, lighting another cancer stick

Captain C. Captain, Lieutenant Dan Dee, Lieutenant Notyetnamed and JG Lieutenant John Q. Public wait in the background. They are relaxed yet as always vigilante as they watch over Danu. Rhiannon listened to Grace. In her opinion all three had good points with the child. She did like the man's point of view though and laughed mildly at the point. This Grace appeared genuinely concerned about the girl's welfare and Rhiannon respected that. Her mind made up she spoke -Rhiannon- "I would like to speak with the girl." Thinking she added with a tip of the chin at the man seated -Rhiannon- "This Boland too if possible." She nodded to the entrance -Rhiannon- "Are they yours?" Turning to Grace she raised her eyebrows

Boland was absorbed in his reading when he heard Grace mention his name. He did not attempt to pry in on the conversation but did hear the woman mention the desire to meet him; the volume at which she stated this was obviously intended for his ears. And with that he stood and approached the pair. As he walked he barked out -Boland- "Maureen! Come here to me!" The girl heard Boland and ran to him. Taking her hand he stopped several feet behind Grace and the woman. Grace twisted her head subtly and both stepped up beside her, Maureen in front of Boland, his right hand on her shoulder. Grace cringed; they must appear like one of those irritating commercials they shell out to con some commodity to brainwashed consumers

Kieran and Laoch still stood at the entrance. Laoch asked -Wtf is she doing in there?" The answer came quick -Kieran- "Talking to some old bag." Left eye cocking Laoch stared blankly into the air -Laoch- "Are we robbing her?" That prompted a laugh -Kieran- "We could only wish...." Laoch hand in pocket kicked a can as Kieran looked around aimlessly

Rhiannon saw Boland. He struck her as a decent man and she left it there. Smiling she spoke -Rhiannon- "Hello." Eyes thinning -Rhiannon- "Harry is it not?" Passing the rhertorical -Rhiannon- "I have heard much of you - all good." Then turning attention to Maureen she crouched down arms resting on thighs -Maureen- "And you must be Maureen." Indeed the power that radiated from the tiny child was simply staggering. This must be treated very cautiously she thought and she still very much agreed with Boland's opinion; this was a child. She truly saw the difficulty Grace was having deciphering how this must be approached. And from her position she felt a deep responsibility to offer aid to that end; it was what separated the Jedi from others

Boland nodded. This was a big shot, big as they got. He knew of her. And to Boland that never meant anything if a person was too high on themselves. This lady was far that shallow way of holding oneself. That he respected. An as consequence he nodded -Boland- "Pleasure is all mine my Lady." Maureen knew nothing of Rhiannon. She looked like a school teacher. But a nice lady and she knew her name. Grace must have told her. She responded with a wide grin -Maureen- "Hi." Always one to speak candidly and wherever her mind took things it just tumbled out musically -Maureen- "We were allll dead. But An Tiarna cussed out The Creator so they sent us back here." Grace looked at Rhiannon mouth agape a few inches and terror in her eyes. That could have came out a touch less bluntly but there it was. Perhaps the woman would spray them with Raid and back off slow and careful. She waited

Boland was truely a likeable man and she acknowledged his greeting with a warm courteous nod. The girl was adorable. Then her youthful honesty dropped a bomb on the lap of Rhiannon. Death. Now she understood the odd sense that one picked up from the three. Quite extraordinary. But all that was wiped away by the mention of a name: An Tiarna the girl said. An Tiarna Dubh. She had never met him but had heard more than her share of heated talk of his many drunken atrocities. Truth be told few of many had anything good to say of him at all. But she also knew of many acts of kindness that did not match the reputation. What the child had said in her innocent honesty interested her - immensely. The whole case of them being dead opened great discussion but she was fixated on a point -Rhiannon- "And how did he do that?"

Maureen's brows dropped as she struggled, not out of fear simply in search for the words to describe what happened. Grace, still speechless stood looking at Rhiannon with wide eyes. Boland's hand tightened on the child's shoulder but not in anger; he was merely unconsciously reassuring the girl that he stood behind her. At last Maureen spoke -Maureen- "Well he got mad and said if The Raven could bring us there how come he couldn't bring us back." Looking all the serious she pronounced solemnly -Maureen- "And everythinggg was fixed." Snapping her fingers -Maureen- "Like that!" She stood silent looking at Rhiannon. All three of them did

Listening closely the it was difficult t form a mental image of what the girl described on the mental image she had of the man. But she had seen and heard many a thing that revealed a great difference between how people were perceived and how they actually were. No matter; a philosophical debate about good and evil was not really important here. What was of infinite significance was that these three were once dead. But again it was something that would come out in time and only if necessary. The heart of all of this was how to treat a very gifted child. And in the girl's words she could feel a strong quite understandable affection for the beastly man. So her response was simple -Rhiannon- "That's lovely." And with a deep breath -Rhiannon- "And now dear I must have a word alone with Grace." Nodding with a smile at Boland -Rhiannon- "Excuse us."

Boland silently watched the woman and the girl talk. When she asked him and Maureen to step aside so as she might talk with Grace he took no insult and simply began to lead the girl away. Maureen turned under his hand and followed, yelling over his head -Maureen- "Bye!" Grace stood wordlessly waiting

Rhiannon learned many years before that decisiveness in no way had to conflict with thoughtfulness. It was manifest That she was witnessing something quite out of the ordinary. That she was an active participant also did not escape her conscience. For that she humbly considered herself graced by a power higher than any here, yet always everywhere, She spoke slow and humbly -Rhiannon- "You show enormous respect bringing this to my attention and for that I must express my gratitude." Looking down she continued carefully selecting her words -Rhiannon- "Now considering all that you have revealed let me offer my opinion." Looking at the pair walking away -Rhiannon- "The man's gone and more importantly we won't confuse the child." Looking Grace in the eye -Rhiannon- "Two birds killed with one stone there." Face starting realised a basic err in hospitality -Rhiannon- "Sit here, please." Pulling a chair out and sitting Grace down gently she then took a seat across from her

So, the old Jedi philosopher could be quite forceful, albeit it in a thoughtful caring way. Grace near laughed out loud as the though passed by in her head as Rhiannon directed her onto the chair. But she said nothing still, allowing the woman to voice her opinion free of any interruption. This was beyond important

Leaning forward elbows on knees she began to speak to Grace but stopped and turned slapping hands together twice then turned back. Tea was on the table scarcely before her elbows rested once again on her knees. Rhiannon nodded to the servants who quickly departed -Rhiannon- "Of course he wants her to be a child - and good on him for asserting that!" Quickly moving past that blunt declaration -Rhiannon- "Whereas you wish to have her head first into training her many inherent skills... and learning all about the world around her all things that she is ignorant to...." Now capturing Grace with fiery eyes -Rhiannon- "Why can't you have both?" Winking with her left -Rhiannon- "You will sort it out. She is a child. And that is parenting." Face now stone -Rhiannon- "Just make sure that your own will to train her is never lost in the mosh." Licking upper lip -Rhiannon- "Or you'll be burying the first friend who dares agitate her in the playground and gets turned to charcoal with a thought." Her words were blunt yet what she said was very open-ended, as it should, must be -Rhiannon- "And my door is always open." With the offer she stopped, for the moment

Grace heard everything - and more. Rhiannon left little doubt that she agreed with Boland's view most decidedly. Where her way of observing things was superior, lacking a better term, was that she could see the folly in the logic carried by both views. The bitterness of that logic struck her deeply, as it fit almost anything..... Dark... Light. Were these too not extremes of a whole? By the purest definition it was a dichotomy. And as a response did Grey not merely just act to mire one in the No Man's Land that existed between the two? She discarded the philosophical question inspired by a simple statement and placed what Rhiannon had said into the question that she asked. It was all clear as glass. Kill Boland, grab the girl and lay a path of destruction across the galaxy, until both of them were cut down by a hail of bullets as they went down in a blaze of glory. Wait? She didn't say that. Was that An Tiarna? Grace pulled herself from the momentary lapse of sanity -Grace- "Thank you most kindly Rhiannon." She looked around to catch Boland helping Maureen defacing part of the library

Rhiannon wished to do something…. She was at the moment knee deep in academics. And the political savagery that was academics. What was it the great thinker had said once? Yes! He had posed it as a question: “Why are academics so ruthless? And immediately answered: “Because the stakes are so low.” Brilliant! Simply brilliant. Oh how she loved the freedom offered in the universities. But she also knew that in many ways it was a prison too. One that a person accepted freely. This aspect of the scholarly life was rarely spoken too but it was. Certainly the lecture circuit moved her around quite frequently. To other academic bodies. She wanted more…. And her mind drifted for a long moment. The girl's face pulled her from her thought. How long had they been staring at each other. She wished to say something. But what could be said? "Honey you are painful to look at." No. That might be true but it was cruel. And her mind wandered again. Rhiannon wished to do something…. She was at the moment knee deep in academics. And the political savagery that was academics. What was it the great thinker had said once? Yes! He had posed a question: “Why are academics so ruthless?" And immediately offered a most striking answer: “Because the stakes are so low.” Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Oh how she loved the freedom offered in the universities. But she also knew that in many ways it was a prison too. She wanted more…. And her mind drifted for a long moment. She spoke making an offer -Rhiannon- “The Room of a Thousand Fountains offers an exquisite place for peaceful mediation….” And here Rhiannon chose to speak indirectly if not necessarily subtly to the woman’s horrific scars -Rhiannon- “And our Halls of Healing would attend to any needs that any of you have.” She looked at Grace

Still somewhat distracted trying to figure out what type of idiocy Boland had walked Maureen into now Grace was pulled from the trance by Rhiannon's offer. It was kindly and she opened her mouth to answer. However Rhiannon's offer of medical attention stopped her, if only for a second. This too was pure and well intended but she knew what inspired the statement. Pulling in any pain she responded to both -Grace- "Thank you. And we will definitely take you up on the former." She did not refuse the latter but left it unspoken to

Rhiannon stood gesturing to the right as she did -Rhiannon- "Follow me if you may." At that she turned walking slowly across the floor towards the entrance
