*With the rebuilding of the Jedi Base in the waning days of Ramius' Chaos War, the Balcony, which had been somewhat of a meeting spot for those not welcome among the Jedi Council, was expanded. The half-moon shaped landing was made of solid granite, much like the rest of the base, and given the same soft white hue. The railing along the side was silver in color and rose waist high from the stone floor.
Looking down, one could view the entire expanse of the Jedi Base. Ahead one would view the courtyard and the cloning and medical facilities on the other side, to the left one's eyes would meet the expanse of the base wall, which surrounded the entire facility and at times was the last measure of defense against the darknesses that fell upon the Jedi of this world. Directly below lay the main entrance to the Jedi Base, and all who passed through would be seen approaching by those on the balcony. It was a perfect place to watch the everyday functions of the base from a separated distance, and what was more, the balcony of the Jedi Base held the best view of the stars overhead, when the season and good grace of the planet permitted.*

A little S'kytri sat on the railing of the balcony, legs kicking idly. From here, she had a good view of the base, the gardens, and the jungle beyond the walls. Felucia really was much different than Coruscant, and this Temple was much smaller. For the most part, she was fine with that, though the gardens could not compare to the Room of a Thousand Fountains back on Coruscant. Still, Knita was much happier here, this being her homeworld after all, so Faun was happy too.
She let her iridescent wings extend fully, appearing a slight shade of turquoise in the light. Then she sighed. Knita was currently nowhere to be found, though Faun knew she would pop up again soon enough, so she'd come to the balcony in hopes that she could converse with a passing bird or two, like she used to on Coruscant before she had met Knita. But alas, none had paid the balcony any visit for as long as she had waited there. Felucia had very strange birds, but there were still a few that were more similar to those kinds of birds she was familiar with; she would have taken any, honestly, but if none came, well, she'd have to seek company elsewhere...*

Serena had never been up the balcony before, despite having been here a week already. Morgan had told her where it was, but she had been quite busy with her lessons and getting used to life at the Jedi base. Thus she hadn't had as much free time as she would have liked. But today, her lessons had ended a bit earlier and now she had time to wander around for a bit before dinner. Since she hadn't been to the balcony yet, she had made it her first destination.
Upon arrival, she immediately noticed someone else there, another kid it looked like, but when Serena looked closer, she noticed that the other girl had wings on her! She had never seen a winged human before. Putting on a smile, Serena approached the winged girl."Hi there!"

Faun nearly jumped when she heard the enthusiastic greeting, which, for a normal child, could've been disastrous, but thanks to her training sessions with Sirial, Faun could have at least caught herself in midair. But that was no animal voice she heard, it was pure Basic. She turned to see an older girl greeting her with a smile, which surprised Faun; not many strangers seemed eager to greet her like that. Not that she was going to complain. This could be the company she was hoping for! Hello. Her wings retracted a little as she raised her legs and turned around on the rail, then let them dangle over the opposite edge before placing her hands in her lap and sat up straight with a polite smile. My name is Faun, what's your name?

Serena grinned as Faun introduced herself, and her first impression was that the other girl's wings were actually kind of cool. Plus, she was meeting a new friend too! Morgan and Jake were good friends, but the more friends, the better! That's what her mother had said once..."My name's Serena! It's nice to meet you Faun!"Serena had quite a few questions, well more than a few, but she didn't want to scare Faun away with a bombardment of queries...

It was nice to have someone react friendly and excited to meet her for once. Granted, Faun had never been picked on during her time here at all but she didn't really meet too many people that eager to get to her know her. It was better than on Coruscant, at least, and she still had Knita. ... most of the time. It's nice to meet you too, Serena! *Oh, manners, she almost forgot. She hopped down off the railing, then stood up straight, folding her hands in front of her and bowing to Serena in greeting. Faun wasn't sure if she'd ever seen the girl before, but there were a lot of students, and Faun barely knew the names of all her own classmates, let alone older or younger ones apart from a very select few. Sometimes students were only there temporarily, which just made things even more confusing.* Are you a transfer student? Or have you always been here?

Serena quickly nodded."I transferred here from Haruun Kal not too long ago, so I'm still kinda new."She hadn't recalled seeing Faun around before, though she hadn't been here long enough to have met every single student here. And she had spent most of her time with pretty much just Morgan and Jake so there was that too.
She smiled."So...what are you? I mean...er...how 'come you have wings?"Maybe she could have phrased that better, and her attempt to fix it had probably made it worse. There hadn't been any suspicion or anything like that in her voice as she had asked, but it still sounded insensitive when she thought about it. Hopefully Faun didn't take it the wrong way.

Another transfer? Faun wondered if she would be staying or would return to her home soon. The planet she said she was from Faun wasn't familiar with, and she was pretty sure she couldn't repeat it properly, so she wasn't going to try. Faun wasn't sure if she should have mentioned that she was from Coruscant or that she was born on Skye, but all that thought left her mind when asked what she was. It was an innocent enough question, but the second, well, Faun suddenly became nervous and apprehensive. This girl wasn't going to make fun of her, was she?! Was it worth even answering?
She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down and steady herself; she had to be overreacting. Normally whens someone made fun of her, they didn't seem so nice. The nicer ones didn't seem to mind and only seemed curious; and she had to remind herself that winged species weren't all that common. I'm, I'm a S'kytri! Sort of. M-my colors are different, see, girls are usually green, and boys are usually blue. And our wings are darker... but I look more like a human, and my wings are brighter. I-I know another S'kytri who's lighter to! But it's because she's an albino, and she has different colors than me, so I don't know why I look like this... One day she'd find out. Maybe Sirial knew. She'd have to find her and ask some point soon, next time she saw her. She just didn't know when that'd be...

Serena had never heard of the S'kytri before and if she heard right, Faun was supposedly different than most of her race. Having never seen a S'kytri before in her life though, Serena had nothing to go on for a comparison. If Faun hadn't told her otherwise, she might have assumed that all S'kytri looked like this. Except Faun had mentioned another who was an albino, but she knew that albinos could happen with my different species. Maybe she could look it up the next time she was in the archives, which would be tomorrow, probably.
She smiled."I've never met a S'kytri before. Can you really fly?"Hang on...maybe that was a stupid question, but she honestly didn't know, having obviously never seen a S'kytri before in her life. Too late, the question was out and Serena once again hoped that Faun wouldn't be offended.

Serena didn't seem scared, or jealous, or derisive. She seemed... impressed and interested? That... that was a relief! Faun relaxed a little herself, allowing a smile on her expression as Serena asked if she could really fly, without accusation, without disdain. Did she.... did she want to see Faun fly? With a grin, Faun nodded. Yeah! See, watch. Her wings spread wide, then she stopped; she was too close to Serena to take off here. Um, sorry, I'll move. She gave an apologetic look and took a few steps to the side and backward from Serena. Then she spread her wings, crouched slightly, and jumped as high as she could, her wings flapping to gain height. She rose many feet in the air, high above the balcony. Then, out of a desire for practice rather than to show off, Faun gained a little more height then dove forward, gliding about through the air using the techniques she'd practiced repeatedly with Sirial by now. It was a little harder to stay aloft, since Felucia didn't have the constant updrafts as the cityscape of Coruscant, but she had learned to user her wings to gain height while gliding, even though she wasn't quite good at it yet.
After circling overhead a couple of times, Faun glided a little distance away so that she could swing back and glide toward the balcony, nosing downward a little and then letting her body go vertical, flapping her wings as a bit of resistance in order to slow down, kicking her legs so that she could hit the ground running. Then she slowed and retracted her wings, spreading her arms and grinning victoriously, tongue poking out between her teeth. Tada!

Serena stood back and watched as Faun took to the air, amazed that there was a race out there that could actually fly like that. And Faun already seemed to be so good at it at a young age, though Serena wasn't sure how old the girl was. Might not hurt to ask later...
As Faun landed with a triumphant grin, Serena giggled loudly and applauded."That was so cool!!"Felucia was turning out to be much cooler than Haruun Kal. Despite the fact that she did miss her family, she was very happy to be meeting so many interesting people so far.

The reception to her demonstration was amazing! Well, it was just one girl giggling and clapping for her, but it was the best reception Faun had ever gotten. Faun giggled and folded her hands, looking a little shy but otherwise pleased by the praise. Thank you. No one's told me that before.

Serena smiled back, noticing that the S'kytri girl seemed a little shy at the praise. No one had ever told her that before? She found that hard to believe. Maybe she had never done a little show like that before? In any case, maybe she would ask about it later.
She giggled."You're welcome!"She took a step back, wondering where to take the conversation from here. She only wondered for a moment though..."How long have you been on Felucia?"

Serena was probably the most polite child Faun had ever spoken to so far, and that made her feel happy and relaxed. She even seemed to care about Faun's history, asking how long she'd been on Felucia. Over a year. I used to live on Coruscant but Sirial brought me here. She's the other S'kytri I told you about! But my friend Knita is a Felucian who got taken to Coruscant by accident, and Sirial lives here too, so she brought us both here, since it was Knita's home and so she could keep teaching me how to fly!

Serena listened as Faun told her a little bit about where she had come from, and she felt a little jealous that the S'kytri girl had been to Courscant. That place was number one on Serena's list of planets that she really wanted to visit. She had heard quite a bit about the center of the galaxy, as well as the home of the Jedi Order.
She grinned."I wish I could go to Coruscant someday...especially the Jedi Temple. My daddy told me all about it and he said one day he'd take me there but...not yet."She sighed softly, wondering when her father would make good on his promise to take her on a trip to Coruscant. Oh well, it would happen someday, right?

Apparently one of Serena's dreams was to see Coruscant and the Jedi Temple, based on a promise made by her father. So she had a family? That was nice; Faun wished she had one, but she didn't know anything about hers at all, unfortunately. She could at least offer her own perspective on Coruscant, having lived there for five years. The Temple is nice... it's really big, but really cool! And the Room of a Thousand Fountains is bigger and prettier, but the Gardens are nice here too I guess. She looked away for a moment, at the jungle beyond the base's walls, thinking about the cityscape of Coruscant before sighing. But it's not as pretty as here. It's just a bunch of really tall buildings. Which is cool, I guess, but not pretty. It's easier to fly in though, I guess... She had not, granted, attempted to fly above Felucia's jungles, but the updrafts from the city made it easier to stay aloft. When she became more experienced and talented it probably wouldn't have made as big a difference, but while she was still learning, it made a huge difference...

Serena grinned as Faun briefly described the Temple on Coruscant, and she couldn't wait to see the massive cityscape and the Jedi Temple for herself. Someday she would. Maybe Coruscant wasn't as pretty as Felucia like Faun was saying, but Serena was used to jungles, even if Felucia's jungle was much different than Haruun Kal's.
She nodded."It is pretty here...but still I wanna see the city someday."She giggled."Anyway...I'm done with classes for today. You wanna go play somewhere?"Maybe Morgan could play too and it could be the three of them playing in the gardens or even better, out in the jungle. That would be fun!

Serena still wanted to see the city? Well, she supposed it was neat for sightseeing purposes and such; if people wanted to see other places, who was Faun to tell them not to? But then Serena asked if Faun wanted to play, and the little S'kytri, after a brief moment of surprise, beamed. Okay! Faun was very excited to be invited to play with a new friend, but then she realized: She had no clue what most kids did for fun. She and Knita did their own things for fun, but Felucians were quite different when it came to their definition of fun, and she wasn't quite sure that any of her normal ideas were what Serena would find interesting. She folded her hands behind her, suddenly looking sheepish.* Um, what do we play?

Serena stopped in her tracks when Faun asked what they should play. Did S'kytri play different games than humans? If so, what were they? Could she even play human games? There was one way to find out...
She shrugged."Oh...um...well what kind of games do you like to play?"Hopefully there was some kind of game that they could both play and have fun with...

What kind of games did Faun play? Serena seemed... confused? Why was that? Did she think Faun played different games because she was a S'kytri? Well, she probably did... but not for that reason. Mostly. Faun bit her lower lip, then answered. Me and Knita play games... but they're different, I think? She likes nature better... and I like flying, but we both swim! That's normal, right? Lots of kids swam, so maybe Serena did too? Faun looked a little excited at the potential prospect of sharing an interest with a new friend, hoping she wasn't setting herself up for disappointment; it was going good so far, but how long would that last?
