Not long ago, I conceived of an idea to help generate some RP scenarios to bring groups who would not normally interact a chance to RP together. I hammered a few things out and talked it over with quite a few of the faction heads.
For the most part, each faction, order, and organization tend to stay pretty isolated unless there is a large plot that brings groups together. Realistically, I know there is no way all the groups will magically become bosom buddies, and I wouldn't want that. There needs to be dramatic tension, conflict, and crisis points. However, I don't think we need to constantly be fighting to have all that.
I know, a Sith just said it doesn't always have to mean war. Nuts, eh?
Here's the thoughts I had:
Think of how Palpatine began the Clone Wars. Why can't we do that? Without the war part.
The Republic currently outlaws Sith traditions, practices and Darksiders in general. I'd like to see that turned up to 11, as they say. Dark Tide will make a large stink about the fact their protectorates are disallowed, even though they have tried to help the Jedi and Republic by uniting Force users to stop the Mandalorians. Fed up, they will form their own imperial federation with a senate and start to entice planets to break away from the Republic and join the Empire. How entice? Well, any way they can. Using embedded troublemakers, criminal organizations, or trade blockades, they will force, cajole and bribe their way into controlling bigger pieces of the pie.
The Republic would react harshly and both the Republic and Empire declare the other side traitors and ban the exchange of goods and services between the two. Suddenly no Republic contractors or navies can get KDY goods. The Empire can't get clones created for armies. Tibanna gas is in short supply in the Republic as the Empire controls Bespin. Smugglers and criminal organizations begin to run illicit trades of goods back and forth, trying to evade capture by either Republic or Imperial authorities. But more than that, citizens of the Empire's planets may not find themselves agreeable to Imperial rule and soon smugglers are ferrying refugees to sympathetic ports like the RDMC on Honoghr. Imperials who are extradited back home face stiff penalties and yet the Republic is under pressure from the Empire not to help defectors.
Think Cold War.
Mandos, I haven't forgotten about you. Sitting on neither side of the fence, you profit from both sides of the standoff. The Mando War has beaten everyone to a standstill. Independent economically and politically from each side, you sell to whomever pays better. However, ideologically, you would rather screw both of them as they are the vanguards of the Forcies. Knowing now that they can and will team up to fight you, you seek to goad both sides to take each other out while remaining as neutral as you can. Trying to take them out alone has shown you that the better option is to encourage their mutual annihilation. They will take each other out eventually, you just have to manipulate the circumstances to provoke that endgame or make sure that one side beats the other enough where you can finish off the victor while you have been rebuilding your forces.
Grey Jedi, Jensaari, Imperial Remnant and other unaligned groups; you pick your sides on this one. Stay with the Republic or Imperials as you see fit. But wide open war isn't the goal, just the build up of animosities, a boost to criminal and smuggling activities, and some good old fashioned subterfuge and intrigue.
Some bulletpoints to all this:
I realize I've thrown at lot of information at you and for some of you, this isn't news as it has been pitched to you by your group leader. However, I'm looking for input and feedback overall as to feasibility for implementing something like this for an overall direction for the site to move in.
Throw us questions, comments and ideas. We're open for anything.

Some bulletpoints to all this:
- Think of this like flavor text or lore. It's the opening scroll that outlines the current political landscape for users across the site. As such, there is no set timeline, posting order and everyone is free to incorporate these details into their RP's as it fits. If it doesn't suit your RP, you don't have to include it, however, it'll be the political environment of the overall site.
- We don't know how it will shake out yet, but I'd like to see Sin as Empress. The Empire will be a new supergroup like the Republic and Jedi Order and all other dark sided factions like the Dark Tide, OE, Cult of Absolem or Nightsisters would be independent factions free to operate as they wish within Empire space.
- The planets get divided up between the Republic, the Empire and 1 or 2 other groups in an OOC fashion. That will determine borders and boundaries. It was suggested that there be Republic, Empire, Hutt Space and Independent Alliance of Systems for fence sitters. For the most part, I think planetary controllers can decide what supergroup they'd like to side with. After that, anything unclaimed will be divided up using a dice roller among the 4 sides. After planets are assigned, the RP begins to set up how and why they ended up in one of the four groups.
- Planets that are not happy to be included in one group over another become contested grounds for rebellion and refugee smuggling. I can see some really good RP coming from the Empire struggling to hold on to rebel systems or Republic planet secretly aligned with the Empire and feeding them intel.
- The Republic refuses to acknowledge Imperial Sovereigns, the Empire refuses to honor Republic Credits, and a healthy black market springs up where independent worlds like Dressel have guys that deal with both or you are forced to barter for supplies.
- Black markets mean smugglers and bounty hunters have more incentive to run contraband goods across contested hyperspace routes and locate defectors, and traitors.
- If you want a conflict, there is room for border disputes, Imperial patrols who chase smugglers and skirmishes with Jedi over the trafficking of refugees.
- I think this would foster a lot more open RP scenarios rather than closed RP.
- There is some thought that there would need to be some serious economic guidelines set up. For the most part, we can follow a loose set of ideas and still have a very complex and rich RP environment without a lot of economic guidelines. However Eralam and Anders are looking for people who would like to work with them on setting some hard rules for how the econ would work in this situation.
