*At her question, Tom lifted his hands before his torso, tapping his fingers together contemplatively. Should he teach her first, or once more teach her by action? She seemed fairly adept for that, though he knew it wouldn't be appropriate in every case. Perhaps this was a case where Raine could decide.* "Which would you feel more comfortable with," *he asked as he raised a hand to his chin,* "me teaching you the basics of lightsaber combat, or you attempting to learn them yourself against a training droid?" *Raine thought about it for a moment. The basics could give her an edge in fighting. Fighting the droid however would be a good test of her skills, to see where she was good and bad in certain areas.* "I...think I want to train against the droid?"

Zemear- after taking his time to settle his thoughts, finally entered the training hall. A few rooms were in use, and so the Epikanthix made his way to the one he felt his Master's presence resonating from. He found Tom engaging in a conversation with a slightly wended looking Raine, along with some blaster scoring on the wall. She'd just finished some kind of training session. He hoped she felt successful. Though right now, he did not wish to interrupt, so, the tall Epikanthix leaned against the far wall, shifting slightly- still getting use to the cumbersome Jedi padawan attire. He watched Tom and his new student keenly, wondering how the man would teach someone different than himself, especially giving Tom's slightly different philosophy than the other Jedi here.

"Very well then," *Tom replied, somewhat pleased at the option she'd elected; it was in line with her preference to learn by doing. He hesitated a moment, both sensing the approach of Zemear and considering Raine's current armament. While she'd said she could fight with two blades, it still seemed more standard to have her learn to master one of the weapons before attempting to train with two...
But then, Tom wasn't much one for "standard."
Smiling to himself, he turned toward a control panel in the room, reaching out with his hand and manipulating it with gestures; having trained here enough, he knew how to remotely manipulate the training scenarios. A panel in the far wall activated, revealing various other training equipment, mainly training droids. One was activated, a medium-sized unit of about a meter-and-a-half height, marching forward to the center of the arena, waiting for its opponent.
When Tom turned back to Raine, Zemear was present. Cleaner, and peculiarly-dressed. He'd never expected the boy to wear standard robes; Tom himself never wore any of the sort, preferring more casual clothing. Still, Zemear pulled them off well, though Tom got the feeling he wasn't truly comfortable in them.
Keeping his amusement clear of his expression, he looked back to Raine and gestured toward the droid.* "When you are ready. I'll be studying your strengths and weaknesses. If you feel overwhelmed, do not be afraid to make it known. And if you must adapt, then do so."

*Jake waited in silent anticipation for Iella's answer, before at last she most graciously placed her saberstaff to her belt and suggested using training sabers. Jake sighed in relief, then stopped and grimaced; that was probably a mistake, a sign of weakness. Ignore it, he urged himself, try not to think about it.
When asked about whether training sabers were just lying around here, Jake nodded, pointing to a cabinet as he explained,* "Yeah! Right in there! Here!" *He turned his palm up and lifted it, opening the cabinet, then faced his palm outward, cupping it, straining his expression somewhat before a training hilt smacked into his palm. At least he was pretty good at that much. The blue beam activated, and he, grinning nervously, held it at the ready before him in a Shii-Cho stance.* "I'm ready! Sorta..." *Bad! Never doubt yourself!* "No, I mean I am ready! For real!" *Iella waited until Jake had retrieved a saber before reaching out to get one herself. She waved the green blade around experimentally, as if testing the weight of the blade. Which actually didn't make any sense since lightsaber blades were weightless. Still, she always got the impression that training sabers were somehow lighter than standard lightsabers.
Personal preferences aside, there was a spar to be had. She couldn't help but smile a little as Jake declared that he was ready. He was using Shii-Cho, not surprising as that's pretty much where everyone started, at least in her experience.*"OK. Here I come!" *Iella stepped forwards and brought her weapon up, then brought it down towards Jake's head. Her full power wasn't behind the swing, but she did want to test him.*

*And the fight was on. Jake almost gasped as the blow came down towards his head, fearing that his strength was nothing to defend it even as he brought the blade up to intercept the attack. But, as he remembered, she was going easier on him, enforced by the fact that, well, he was able to deflect the attack. Well, good, he was alive. ... of course he'd be alive, they were just training sabers! He needed to relax, and fight back. ... when he was more comfortable. He had to prove he could defend himself competently before he could even try to take the offensive.*

She was somewhat hesitant at the sight of the thing. Sliding her right foot back, she raised her hands in a defensive position. She wasn't sure what the droid was capable of, was it similar to a humanoid in fighting? Or in a category of its own. Breathing out slowly, she relaxed her tense muscles and began to pace a slow, wide circle around the droid. Letting it make the first move would let her determine what kind of threat it could be, it would also let her watch for weaknesses.*

Not exactly sound strategy in a real fight, but this wasn't a 'real' fight. Not that spars weren't important...
In any case, Iella figured it was time to see what Jake was really made of...
~~~~~~~~~
Iella stepped back, panting lightly. She hadn't gone as easy on Jake as she had first intended, but the kid had held up fairly well against her, all things considered. Still, it was looking like he might be at the end of his rope now. She switched off her saber.*"Not bad, Jake." *She did have some criticisms, but those could wait for a moment.*
*When Iella switched off her saber, signifying the end of the battle, Jake stood there, legs spread, knees bent, shoulders rising and falling as he panted. He held his lightsaber low, still pointing toward his opponent, in case this was some sort of trick, but no, it seemed the fight was over, and she even told him he had been "not bad."
He... hadn't? He was almost certain he'd done... well, not terrible, but there were ways he could have moved better, evaded attacks, perhaps even struck. Then again, he supposed her assessment that he was "not bad" was accurate, but it didn't necessarily mean he was good either. All things considered, though, he supposed it hadn't been a bad experience. Quite the opposite: A duel he'd managed to hold up decently in, with a fairly pretty woman, and he'd even received a small compliment at the end...
... how long had he been standing there? He jumped slightly, quickly switching off his weapon and holding it to the side, blushing a little.* "Th-thanks," *he stammered, not meeting her eyes, trying to compose himself. Oi... he really needed to get better control of himself.*
Breathing out slowly, she relaxed her tense muscles and began to pace a slow, wide circle around the droid. Letting it make the first move would let her determine what kind of threat it could be, it would also let her watch for weaknesses.* *The droid activated the beam of its own training saber as its opponent approached, holding it at the ready, scanning and studying its opponent, attempting to match her weapons, stance, and movement with known fighting styles. Two reverse grip sabers was unconventional to say the least, but not absolutely unheard of. Their wielder was an inexperienced user, according to the control panel inputs, which meant that the droid would have to start off easy, but adjust if the target showed improvement.
The droid kept a simple Shii-Cho starting stance, slowly circling to keep its front facing the opponent circling around her. Seeing as she was clearly waiting for the first attack, the droid obliged, beginning with a simple, quick overhand strike toward her left shoulder. Most likely deflected, but it was a test; while a training droid's goal was inherently to attempt to win the duel, its primary goal was still to train users. If the user could not overcome the training, then that was no fault of the droid's.*
Zemear caught his master's curious eye and then peered down almost self consciously at his attire. It was true. He'd never seen Tom in regular Jedi clothing, but in all truthfulness, the Epikanthix was curious. A prepared warrior could fight under any circumstances, and that included clothing. Perhaps one day he'd be sent on some really formal diplomatic mission and he'd have to know how to defend himself, or others, while garbed in ridiculous outfits. Whatever the case, he was starting to get use to them regardless. They certainly wouldn't be common for him though.
The tall boy walked slowly up to stand beside his master, silently observing the girl and her mechanical opponent. He'd never fought against a training droid before- and assassin droid, yes, but it's goal was the furthest thing from training. Droids were what force users sent after him when they realized their force wasn't effective. A thin smile flashed across his face at memories before reality set back in.
His curious eyes followed Raine's movements in conjunction to the droids, seeing how well she adapted and how quickly she could spot opportunities to exploit. Relaxing his shoulders, Zemear folded his arms, rather unable to make light conversation and even so, unwilling to anyway. He did not watch the girl as a teacher, but rather, a silent observer. For with all his self taught abilities, he still considered Tom much more understanding of things, and he figured he's make a terrible mentor anyways.
Well that was probably for the best, as it might have embarrassed the kid even more. He seemed like the type who was easily flustered, or maybe that was owing to the fact that had kind of proposed this spar right out of the blue on him. In any case...
She smiled reassuringly at him.*"No problem." *She sighed and stretched out her arms.*"Well I think I'm done sparring for now. How 'bout you"?"
*When Iella announced she was done sparring and asked if Jake felt the same, he started to nod before catching himself. Was he done? Sure, having a spar with an older, trained Jedi was arguably better training than with a droid, but it still seemed like less training than he'd planned on.
Grimacing somewhat, he answered,* "I'm not sure." *He thought about it a moment more, then tilted his head to the side and asked,* "Was there anything I could do better?"
"Hm, let me think."*Iella could name several things that Jake could have done better, though some of his deficiencies in a fight could simply be chalked up to his age and inexperience. Age, she could no nothing about, but at least she could give him a few pointers.*"Your defense was a little sluggish. When you're in a fight, you need to do a better job of anticipating your opponent's attacks."*She paused for a moment to clear her throat.*"The Force is your ally in that regard. Let it guide your actions."*Pretty generic advice, but it was true.*
*Jake waited nervously, as though he was suddenly put on trial. Even though he was the one who'd asked for feedback. He tried to calm himself down, assure himself it was no big deal; he wanted to know his strengths and weaknesses and where he could improve, after all! So why was he so nervous about potential criticisms?
And then it came: He wasn't so good at anticipating opponents' attacks. Which seemed a little odd to him at first, considering he was able to hold his own with Morgan, but he'd had to earn that strength... by learning Morgan's own fighting style. He didn't know Iella's, or really anyone else's, but he could anticipate Morgan's attacks because he, generally, knew what she was capable of. Others...
He nodded, answering,* "You're right. I should try working on that..." *Finally looking up at her, he asked,* "Anything else?" *Secretly he was hoping she'd have compliments on something he did well, but he knew better than to expect those before he received more criticism.*
*Iella smiled.*"Not really. Just be sure to practice against different styles so you can learn how to defend against them."*Nothing more to it than that, really. There would hopefully be plenty of time for Jake to hone his skills as a duelist but there was no need to press him too hard at this point. At least that's what she thought.
Well actually there was one other thing.*"Oh, and you can always ask me for advice if you feel like you've hit a wall. Er...figuratively speaking."
*Practice against different styles, absolutely, it would help him be familiar with various attack and defense patterns, whereas now he was only really familiar with Morgan's. Jake had a feeling that there was more he needed to work on than that, but it was a good starting point at least. When offered to come to her for advice, Jake smiled and nodded.* "Sure! And I won't be hitting any walls, not really good practice..." *His smile became sheepish at his own goofy joke and he blushed a little, reaching up to scratch the back of his head.*
*Raine lifted her left blade up to deflect the droids over head strike. Her goal wasn't to block with her strength, rather let the blade glance off as she darted to her right. With her left blade in front of her, she darted forward and struck with her right blade at the droids left side.*
*The droid registered her response and catalogued it, but needed more data before it determined whether this was her style or just a ploy. As she moved, the droid adjusted, withdrawing its saber and turning in order to catch the new strike. Now it was on the defensive, deciding to collect data on her offensive style before it would later attempt to turn the tables back in its favor.*
*Raine wasn't surprised that the droid blocked her attack, but still disappointed none the less. She spun back away from the droid and raised her defenses. Her mind ran through all the training her father gave her, even as limited as it was. Focusing on disrupting its senses was the first thing to pop into her mind. The hard part of that was a droid had different senses than a living being. Still, however, it did have sensors, so that was a start. Bouncing on the balls of her feet, she feinted right but shot left. Her target was the droids eyes, even a droid needed to see. Raising her right blade above her head, she swung down, if the droid blocked, she would then strike up from underneath with her left blade at the droids eyes.*
Iella wasn't normally one to squee over things that were considered 'cute', but this might just be an exception. Of all the younglings to spar with, she had picked the most adorably awkward one.
She grinned.*"Agreed." *Well that should about wrap that up.*"Well, I think that's everything. Unless you had any more questions?"
