The Duros knew these questions would rise up. Zemad would go very quiet for a moment, turning his back away from his guests for a moment as his crimson eyes gazed out at the city of Coronet. Despite the absence of the Republic, the planet still functioned normally... as if nothing was going on. Then his mind wandered to some of the more troubling news, rumors at first, then a confirmation by a certain transmission from the planet of Muunilist within the Outer Rim.
After some time, alone to his thoughts, the Rear-Admiral turned to look at both Admiral Korr and Orsina.
I have not heard much from what remains of the standing Republic military in the wake of what has fallen upon Coruscant... In fact, my fleet was on its way to the Anaxes system, a most likely place where the Republic Navy would rally. We have had no communication with much of the Republic's navy since we entered the Deep Core... almost a week ago.
The Duros crosses his arms, contemplating some words for now as he begin to wonder about who held the highest authority among the standing military, what remained of their allies and what possible threats were present in the galaxy. He decided to answer the first question.
If anyone has authority over what remains of the Republic and her military, it would have to be the Vice Chancellor, Koronov. We cannot trust the Supreme Chancellor given the decisions made recently. As for allies, the liberation of Kashyyyk may prove to be a worthy grounds to make new allies. The Jedi seem to be active once more as well. But yet threats...
The rumors and reports of the Outer Rim were unsettling, deep within the Rear Admiral's gut.
There are those vague reports of increased Imperial activity within and around the Imperial Sector... yet, prior to that, there was that transmission from Muunilist. Some force user known as Soku Ren who proclaimed the Knights of Ren as he bisected the Chairman of the IGBC, which has now since been dissolved. We haven't heard much besides that. That sector of the galaxy is relatively isolated from the rest of the galaxy after all.

=Admiral Korr= "The reports we have heard from Coruscant have been confused, at best, and so I have chosen to treat them all with suspicion, until we can ascertain the truth." The middle-aged war veteran said gravely. "Dmitri Koronov I have known for many years, and trust, but the Supreme Chancellor was his own hand-picked candidate. He chose her because he believed an outsider was the Republic's last hope. If even he was deceived, then this is a very dark hour for the Republic indeed." He sighed. "I find it hard to believe that the Senate would allow this to happen unopposed, no matter what powers they may have foolishly granted the young Alderaanian traitor, and yet here you stand, with evidence that the Republic has indeed failed." Reality was setting in now.
Jacen paused for a moment to take another deep breath. "When I heard the news, I ordered my fleet to return to the shipyards on Selonia, and to deploy scouts throughout the Corellian system. We are preparing for war, as a contingency. As for Corellia's traditional allies, the Naboo are still with us. I knew the previous Queen Mother of Hapes, but we have not maintained those connections, so I cannot speak to their status. We cannot trust Alderaan, and we have not heard anything from Ryloth..." His voice trailed off, and he blinked as he refocused himself.
"Yes. So. First priority is to find the Vice Chancellor. I am sure he will survive this crisis, despite the other assassinations. He is smart, he knows what the risks are, and he will go to ground until he can contact me. And then, we must contact our other allies. You say that Kashyyyk may prove worthy. I agree. Have you heard anything from Mon Cal recently?"

It was the planet and homeworld of a past influential leader of the Republic. That sector of the Outer Rim was a possible choice of where the battlegroup would retreat to, but Corellia was much closer and would present a better choice given the distance. Zemad places his hands behind his back for a moment before speaking to Admiral Korr.I have not heard anything from Mon Cal, Admiral Korr. The last contact with them was very long ago... back when the Republic was at its zenith and most powerful position in the galaxy. Liberated by the Jedi Order and the Hapan Consortium. The Kashyyyk Sith cult was obliterated by those forces and the Wookiees rose up in rebellion against their dark overlords. It would be a good choice to find willing and loyal allies.

The Libero arrived at Coronet City from the Corellian Jed Academy. Lt. Trado landed the ship at a landing pad for the Jedi Order, that was guarded by CorSec.
We have arrived in Coronet City, Master Starfield.
Johun pushed the button on the intercom panel next to him.
Excellent Lt. Trado. Stay with the ship. I imagine we will be leaving Corellian before too long.
Aye, sir.
Johun unbuckled his restraints and stood, gesturing to Kay'li towards the exit.
Ladies first.

But from what you have said, and the rumors I have heard, Kashyyyk is the place we should start." He shrugged fractionally. "After all, if you take the so-called Chancellor at her words, we are free to build our own alliances now. And so, Corellia should have an alliance with every friendly, free world -- even the ones the Republic ignored, or did not have cordial relations." He smiled once more at the mention of Corellia as a better choice. "A wise choice. You are always welcome here. And..." He raised an eyebrow. "That would be my other question for you. What will you and your troops do now? Will you operate as an independent, privatized militia, or are you looking to be part of something bigger? It occurs to me that you may have plenty of rations for the time being, but eventually you will have mouths to feed, and guns to reload." The CDF was one of the handful of militaries in the Republic with the necessary resources and shipyard facilities to take on another battlegroup, and the Duros was almost certainly more comfortable in the Core than out on the Rim, whether he dared voice that feeling or not. It was his home turf, and he knew all the little navigational secrets. It was home.

It occurs to me that you may have plenty of rations for the time being, but eventually you will have mouths to feed, and guns to reload." The Duro stands there quietly for a moment as the question was posed to him by Admiral Korr. The future of his battlegroup had been on his mind since arriving to Corellia, the one time the Duro had any chance at thinking in a calm environment. Zemad was among one of many Republic fleets that were now isolated and without a firm command structure over their heads. Many would have scattered by now, returning to their respective designated sectors or to the homes of their commanding officers. There were others that may have already been preyed upon by the bold and by the enemies of the Republic.
Zemad had always been used to being a part of something bigger. Establishing an independent command and privatizing his military would only isolate the Duro and perhaps close many doors. He was a good and loyal commander; always was and always will. Without any further thoughts, the Duro looks to the Corellian.I would not think of privatizing my military. Instead, I would want my battlegroup to be a part of something bigger. I knew my officers and soldiers would agree to my decision. Alone, we became the target of a bold Imperial warlord. But with a group, numbers will be able to preserve us for longer. We will be able to endure the trials that may come in the future. I know my men would feel more at ease knowing we aren't alone.

=Admiral Korr= Jacen waited patiently, watching the Duros intently as he weighed the important question. He respected his fellow commander's caution and thoughfulness. When the response came, he nodded slowly and encouragingly, and paused for a moment of his own before responding. Zemad's answer had been along the lines he had expected, but he wanted the man to choose his own path, before Jacen offered him anything definite. And it seemed he had made that choice. He met Semad's gaze with his own steady gaze.
"Well, I don't know what other alliances or militaries will arise from the ashes of the Republic, but as the Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Forces, I would be honored to fold you and your soldiers into the CDF. We have a command structure, we have a Sector full of resources, and we have two shipyards under our control. It is my job to keep Corellia and all of the Core Worlds as safe as possible, and I can think of few better ways than recruiting orphaned battlegroups from the Republic."

Fortunately for the Jedi, they had landed just a few minutes walk from Admiral Orsina Biancardi's CDF command center. Arriving in the lobby, they were met by an Omwati sergeant on duty, just as Admiral Korr had been the previous hour. It seemed that this particular CDF post was the center of an entire planet's official attention, for one day at least.
=Sergeant Whatsherface= The bird-like, blue-skinned young woman had a pretty good idea why the Jedi had come, even before they spoke. The endless parade of military officers and politicians had just begun to wane. Now, she supposed, there would be a new parade of Jedi. SHe only hoped they would be more organized, and not need to conduct five separate inquisitions on the exact same topic. She knew Admiral Biancardi did have other responsibilities than playing host to half the planet.
Not bothering to introduce herself (she had an un-spell-able, unpronounceable name anyway), she stood up and acknowledged the Jedi with a slight bow. "Let me guess." She glanced from one Knight to the other. "You also want to speak with our visitors from the Pertinax."

It is my job to keep Corellia and all of the Core Worlds as safe as possible, and I can think of few better ways than recruiting orphaned battlegroups from the Republic." Zemad was somewhat surprised by the offer made on behalf of Corellia's military by the Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Forces. An offer to join the ranks of the CDF? With the Republic dismantled, the Duro had nowhere else to go. There may be plenty of pro-Republic systems, but they would not be as secure as the Corellian system, known for its reputation of a strong defense forces. It would be joining something bigger and not seeking fortune alone with the reports of strong Imperial activity.
After a long moment of silence, the Rear-Admiral calmly puts his hands together and bows his head to the Supreme Commander, a sign of respect towards the Corellian and his most generous offer. The Duro knew his own officers would agree to this proposal.Supreme Commander, you honor me with your offer. I am a person of little talent, but whose loyalties are unquestionable and unshaken. Though my forces are small compared to the entirety of your mighty Corellian Defense Forces, I shall offer my soldiers, my crew, my ships and my loyalty to the Corellian Sector and her military. I ask that you place me in a position that suits my talents so that I may serve Corellia as I did with the Republic before.

With the Republic a shambles, and other alliances in question, the opportunity to bring another friendly fleet into the fold without having to provision new starships or recruit and train new officers would be a significant accomplishment. Corellia had the resources to support all those extra military members. The greatest challenge would be integrating chains of command and ensuring trust, and those would be a lot cheaper than building a new fleet from scratch. Not to mention, he felt a certain sympathy and responsibility for those in the Republic military who had been less fortunate than himself. While the CDF had a long history and support system to fall back on, not everyone had been so lucky. The second-generation Supreme Commander smiled as the Duro bowed, and returned the bow. "Excellent." He replied, extending his hand. "Welcome to the CDF." There was a knock at the door once more. It was the sergeant with the unpronounceable name again.=Sergeant Whatsherface="Sirs, there are two Jedi here. They wish to question the Rear-Admiral." She hesitated. "I assume it is about the Imperial activity in the Deep Core, but they didn't say."

While they were waiting for the military officers, Kay'li glanced at Johun."What do you think the Imperials would be doing in the Deep Core? They once had a lot of territory there, but now it's pretty well cut off from Imperial space." She glanced around the CDF reception area, which seemed unusually busy today."It seems like a strange play for them, unless they are planning a two-sided attack on the Core Worlds, or hiding some secret project."

Johun thought for a minute. This is indeed a strange play.
Maybe they have been there, in hiding, waiting for the opportunity to strike. With the dissolution of the Republic, that opportunity may have presented itself.

The Duro would firmly shake the hand of the Supreme Commander, but then his attention would turn to the Sergeant who came in, announcing the arrival of two Jedi that wished to speak with him. It seemed word of his arrival and the fierce fighting with the Imperial in the Deep Core had spread as far as the Jedi Academy that was on Corellia. Zemad sighs lightly before looking over at Admiral Korr.
I am more than willing to speak with the Jedi, Supreme Commander. Although, I doubt they will learn much more than what Admiral Orsina and yourself know.

Not one to waste words, the Nagai had been content to take a step back when Jemad and Jacen had conversed, her only contribution prior to the sergeant with the unpronounceable name's return having been a nod to the Duro which had also been accompanied by what may actually have been the faint suggestion of a smile to add her welcome to the CDF to that which had been extended by Supreme Commander Koor.
Only after Jemad has expressed his willingness to speak with the Jedi does Orsina speak, clearing her throat as she turns to Sergeant Whatsherface to say, "Send the Jedi in, Sergeant. Thank you. Looking back towards Jemad, Orsina arches a black eyebrow and dryly observes, Better the Jedi than the politicians. Speaking of which, she adds after taking a deep breath as though to steel herself for battle, one of us should really go and make nice with them before they get too restless. Coming to attention and offering Jemad and Jacen a crisp salute, Orsina says, Gentleman," by way of farewell, and then turns smartly on her heel to go and take one for the team by entertaining the politicians while the Jedi are brought up to speed.

Following the lead and direction of the CDF officers, the pair of Jedi entered the room occupied by the Duro commander and other officers. She knew the CDF Supreme Commander well, having served directly aboard his ship many years ago, and so she fixed her attention on the visitor.
"Admiral." Kay'li began, cutting straight to the point. The young Corellian woman knew instinctively that Zemad had already been asked a lot of questions today. There was no reason to add to the burden with small talk. It was better to get the information they needed as quickly as possible, and let the Rear Admiral return to his normal duties aboard his fleet. "I am Kay'li Raganella, and this is Johun Starfield. We have been asked to investigate your report of Imperial activity in the Deep Core, and, if possible, trace it to its source, and discover the reasons behind this Imperial presence."
She paused, looking to Johun. This was originally his assignment, and she would let him ask the first question.

"I am Kay'li Raganella, and this is Johun Starfield. We have been asked to investigate your report of Imperial activity in the Deep Core, and, if possible, trace it to its source, and discover the reasons behind this Imperial presence." Sir, Where exactly were you, and what where you doing just prior to your contact with the Imperials? Two Jedi would enter and immediately begin with the questions. It did not bother the Duro one bit, but surely they would know more of his story by now as it was spreading like wildfire across the planet. Despite this, the Rear Admiral reminded himself that he had to speak the truth once more and allow the Jedi to ask their questions. Zemad would bow his head to both Kay'li and Johun before speaking. There isn't much I can give you, but I will try. My fleet, a detachment of the Republic Core Fleet, was moving through the Deep Core to Anaxes in the wake of what has befallen the Republic at Coruscant. We had not heard word from our Fleet Admiral nor any other detachment for days now. I would assume most of them have either fled to friendly systems or gone rogue. It was a depressing thought, wondering where the rest of his comrades had vanished off to. Perhaps some would reappear in Corellia at some point, thinking it was best to join up with the most organized military unit within the Core Region.Khomm was where we first encountered the Imperials. They jumped in from out of nowhere and immediately began their assault. They chased us the ruins of Byss and past Prakith and the Empress Teta system before we managed to blunt them at Foerost. From there, they retreated back to the Deep Core. Last I remember, Republic Intelligence had mentioned that the recent Galactic Empire once had territory within the Deep Core; almost all of that region was under Imperial rule. With the fall of the Empire though, I suspect the Deep Core lot have become warlords and felt bold enough to attack my detachment.
