What's everyone up to?
there has been a bit of scattered RP, so it's hard keeping up with everyone. But to be honest, I really do think we may need to hold some early Council elections, cause 2/3 of the High Council are currently MIA (some with a reason, others have vanished). Considering how organized the Jedi are meant to be, we really are doing a bit of a shit job overall. At the moment, all the fuss of reorganizing seems to have been nearly pointless, since we seem to lack the ability to have a Jedi Order with cohesive leadership. As such, I think it's time to elect some replacements who are actively participating in the site. So we need to find 3 new High Councillors at the very most... So I will be the first to volunteer as a candidate.

Personally i would like to wait until one of the council puts out approval for this idea. however i will still be as helpful as i can.
below is the list as of last november of the "active" jedi masters. i removed the names of those that currently are "serving" a term on the high council... if we could get people to respond if you are tagged in this post
you would expect this from me wouldn't you? let me explain... yes if there is a need, i will step up, but what we need right now is people willing to serve... i don't believe we need another month of elections. As such, i will not be quick to throw my hat into the ring, and rather will see if i create the need for a vote, or if i can fill a vacant seat without causing drama in the ranks....
that is just my two cents

I agree with Monte that a proposal like that should come from or at least supported by a current member of the High Council. Only if the whole HC was inactive should this not be the case. I'm not saying any more on the matter until then.

I agree, something needs to be done.
However, of the names on that list: Raylia Venci does not want to be an HC, Tyor D'nec/Devlin Dewe/Will Son'tir have not been active since the last elections were held. Kel'Al Raganella wants to focus on Corellia (according to last report, also he has limited time to actually write). Which would leave Jena Shaewe from that list.
Rawkill has been doing a very nice job in character, so I'd support his elevation to the High Council.
In terms of Diamonte, is the High Council something that you would be interested in, in addition to your ic responsibilities on Yavin IV at this time?
Much as I hate to say it, I think the problem we are having stems from our spread out nature with "councils" on each different academy. I'm guilty of this too. I love Corellia. Way more than Coruscant. But, for the good of the Order something needs to change. Either we can actually try to work together and communicate, or we can go our own separate ways as disparate Jedi groups.
I suggest that fill-in Councilors for the remainder of the term be taken out of the pool of currently active, rping Jedi Masters.

I was under the impression that honestly the Council was more of an OOC figurehead, though obviously would have to answer to some things IC, and also that most of the communication would also have been done OOC as well. It's just that, well, there's either been nothing to communicate on or we just haven't collaborated as much as we should have and/or grew a little more apathetic in the repeated scenario of Councilors going inactive. Considering that only two out of those five Councilors are still active on the sit at the moment, I think at most we should bring in some, as Mer put it, "fill-in Councilors" for now, then see what happens by the end of the term. If we could get a visual on who all would be interested in the position(s) (how many do we need?), that would be great.

I enjoy my place on the Council of First Knowledge and while I thank Dia for thinking of me, Ael is correct. HC is just not for me while I am simultaneously the Emperor. I will defer to the active HC's but honestly, there is such a small group of active Jedi, do we need to replace them at the moment?
And although it might be hard to admit, I see our problem in this way. Everyone is stubborn about their likes and expectations. People believe that we should all be together in one spot. However it's not practical. They like where they RP and have no desire to change it or write with everyone. I do not have an attachment to one Temple IC. OOC I think someone should be on Coruscant and I can't do it all with Ray so some other of my characters might come on out to assist with those who want to interact at the main temple. However, I'm not really feeling the love from the rest of the order.
I don't know the Jedi well enough OOC to just send my Jedi in the middle of the other Temples to interact where I am probably not wanted or "needed" from an IC standpoint. So I am doing my best to get some stuff rolling with the Shadows and do some personal development with Ray. Ray will remain on Coruscant so no one else has to and I will make sure that new arrivals at the main Temple are taken care of.
This isn't a knock against you guys but it's just the way I feel.

Hmm, maybe there is a lack of understanding. I thought the High Council was there to help facilitate Jedi rp, and that is precisely what I've been doing.
Raylia is right though. And this is why I have been actively writing on Coruscant with several characters, and I intend to keep doing so. Also, Ray, I have tried to make you feel welcome to write wherever I am that you might be interested in going (specifically Corellia) and I'm sorry I've failed in that regard.
(Short post, just got home from work. Heading off to sleep now.)

I've been still around. But have been very glad to wrap up active RPs and enjoyed a period without responsibility. My semester is grinding to a close in about a month (I work, serve, love, and study students 18 to 20 hours a day).
I don't think serving on the HC would be best for me, but I will be ramping RP for Will sooner rather then later
but I have never supported the over bloated structure the Jedi pursued. We bit off way more then we could chew. We need to stop trying to have so large of an RP to encompass everyone. And instead have a healthy level of smaller and more manageable storylines where new relationships and rivalries can form and a things can develop from there. Back stories are enriched etc.

We do kinda need to replace them, cause Jade seems to be bearing quite a bit of the burden of the whole order atm. And it's not so much a large RP, so much as just a general SL. Atm we have a crap load of small RPs, it's the reason I asked what everyone is up to, cause everyone is pretty much off working almost alone.
If we are really honest, the Jedi Writers just don't want to write together as an order, which is strange since Jedi usually work as a unified Order. Regardless though, considering how few our numbers are, and the way things are going, we might just be better off reverting back to several small orders...

I think that's a little crass to say that people don't want to work together. It's more likely that they're just really interested in developing their characters from their own standpoint and on their own terms. I couldn't fault someone for doing that. Also, the key term here is "writers"...I don't think there's a single person here that can literally assume the mantle of "Jedi"...so why group the two of them together? In addendum, why try and force them to write together when their stories work on their own levels for them? It will more than likely work itself out. If ever a conflict develops, you can be almost certain that the Jedi will bond together, and it will be met head-on. I'd just say allow things to develop along the natural course. When the time comes, hold what elections you need to and do so with the understanding that it'll mainly be for posterity's sake that a council even exists...

I am writing with Jade and once my character is up and running I am free to pitch in where is needed. Actually if anyone needs an npc I don't mind creating one and writing it from the same account.
I think that although we have a Council we shouldn't get too trapped into thinking that they are pivotal in rp. As a core, as a group we just need more members willing to write with others and create npc's where necessary. We can't be too afraid to take decisive action and to write because our IC leading body is largely inactive. As a group together we need to take the reigns and act and write as best we can, because we quite simply can't afford to fall apart just because some writers are away. This has happened previously and it will happen again, because life gets in the way.
We can't suddenly decide things are not working and jump ship because the more active writers are absent atm. This in fact is the time for all the other writers who get largely overlooked to step up.
As an idea perhaps we need something developing ooc, a body of players who can commit to being active and provide roleplay support. As Rawkill quite rightly pointed out Jade has been doing a Phenomenal job and I know Diamonte too tries to do what he can and has helped me in the past.
What I propose is a bunch of us who can commit to providing at least two posts a week and that this group of writers doesn't object to aiding our fellow Jedi writers. We can get together and talk briefly about the rp's ongoing and then hopefully each writer can split the rp's up between them which will support writers like Jade from taking on too much and will also keep things ticking over and support the up and coming talent.
Thoughts....

Well, although not a Jedi, I'm very active at least once or twice a day. I would love to get involved with you guys as Cag is wanting to be trained as a Jedi (at least for a while), before some other stuff. So anytime you guys need another, or just somebody I would be more then willing to help out.

Despite my characters current state I can create an NPC to train your character so long as you don't mind being trained by an NPC. I have many years behind me on JvS as a Jedi and previous Jedi Master. If you're interested hit me up with a pm and we can see what your angle is.

I am telling you guys, asking people to step up into roles or to write more NPCs to pitch in when that isn't their passion is NOT a sustainable model. Looking at Jade as an example, she has been working so hard to put people to work, to facilitate RP and welcome new writers for months and she is already buckling. Some of us did it for years. We need to stop stretching our scope as writers to fit the scope we once had-- it isn't working. And yes, faction activity used to be important in order to exert dominion or else another faction will creep in and usurp your territory.
that isn't this JvS. Not anymore. When I pick up Will again (which I haven't written a post for only a month now folks, a little less), my scope will remain small. I will seek out authors in ones and twos. I might be open to a new apprentice (and maybe a reuniting of old apprentices, you know who you are.
this may be taken as me being stubborn. But this is me hoping you see it as one of the very few here that has the heinsight to really see things for what they are and where we are as a "faction." this site has taken a departure of true factions we have been encouraged to congregate as a body of writers.

Actually Will, I'm ok. Sure, I get stressed out occasionally, but I keep going, and there are several people who have been really supportive and are helping out. Things are actually progressing nicely at the moment.

The only reason this model fails is because there are not enough people like Jade who enjoy writing to the point where they will write to help others. Sadly because 'Jade' type writers are a minority we struggle. Personally for me It's not about activity to exercise domination, but if we fail to post for months as some have then nothing moves at all and I'm on about stories and ideas here not territory. For instance Sin developed this amazing cold war idea and I haven't seen any sort of story develop around this as a body. For the Mando war you had the Watchmen and quite a lot of interesting stories grew from that. I'm not asking everyone to bend over backwards, but to support where and when ever you can because if we fail to write with each other then we fall into obscurity and this isn't bad in terms of what we 'own' or how big we are because the Jedi don't do the mass scale wars and battles we did back in the Facebook days. Yet we still need a reasonable scale of activity to represent a presence and as I said earlier to help and support our fellow Jedi writers. From what I can gather you are talking as an individual Will, which is your prerogative and it is also your prerogative to write as you wish and with who you wish, yet I stress that I feel as a Jedi writer we need to try and look at the larger picture and still attempt to write as collaboratively as possible. We still need a central vision and goal that the Jedi Order should be seen as working toward, technically we all need to be on the same page. That's not saying alternative rp can't happen I'm just saying we can't ignore the central theme and right now its 'Cold War'. As such we should be going down the line of spying, infiltration, moving resources, scouting, small scale skirmishes. This should be our central core motivation. We should be keeping tabs on the enemy, trying to track them, dispatching Knights and Masters to do this etc.

I have to disagree on two points: I am speaking with years of leadership experience. There isn't enough people because when it happens they get bogged down, life happens, they write characters they really aren't interested in. A small hiccup based on one or a few writers and all RPs come to a screeching hult because it is based on one or a few writers writing several charecters at once. You see it all the time.
And as a body I don't think we NEED anything like the Mando War or the Cold War. It overcommits people to things that get away from them. You can argue it, but history is on my side on this one. You can play the optimist and say "if only we had more writers committed" or "more writers need to write more." That's well and good to hope for-- but I am the realist that is telling you that it is to much to ask. You should be asking what writers want to do-- not what you want writers to do.

And the Watchmen existed before the Mando War. Adi sort of led them into what they are/were? now-- first responders. We were originally Jedi who sort of the territorial guardians of particular systems; which was meant to promote RP in more slower parts of Republic space. Which, again, wasn't a sustainable model.

my general viewpoint is that we are just trying to force it. Let go. We aren't as big as we used to be. That's fine. Back off the old model and find something else, reducing the council? fine. Refer to generally bigger council with 3 main charismatic voices, works. Collaborate with writers on smaller scales, a master apprentice against a smuggler or Sith. etc.
Disagree with me. but i don't think the way you are going is helping at all. . . look at the last 4 or 5 months. i am sorry looking like the bad guy; but my opinion is worth considering regardless of my position or recent activity.
