Tilting my head on the side when gorgeous tells me that she isn't going to purchase any clothes because she wants to lose some weight first, I nod in understanding because really what would be the use to buy now when you are certain that you could hit your target point sooner or later ... "Okay then, but when that happens, you, baby girl and I are going to go shopping then." I tell her factually because that certainly deserves a big shopping spree.
Before I could even comment further on that potential shopping spree, I turn to look at Kayne with an amused expression because I know for a fact that she is quite capable of doing that and get the writing there. "I shall wait for it, but do me a favor at least, add sexy in front of it, like the song." I tell her quiiiiite seriously before winking at her playfully. Laughing when Elika declares that Crystal should actually cut the apron strings but soon my laughter dies down because Crystal actually does have a point. I was worried too with what happened last time. Although my laughter returns when Elika asks if we should start planning a baby shower. I pout and place my hand on gorgeous' forearm before shaking my head in disappointment. "Gorgeous, unfortunately for us, Kayne is old fashion." So am I come to think of it. Well I think ... "So no baby yet unless Lover Boy man's up and asks her to marry him."
That is definitely up to Lover Boy but then I am guessing that maybe they really haven't spoken about it yet, or maybe ... Ah what do I know, that is between the both of them. Uh wait, why do I feel light? I look back and wonder if I actually left my shopping bags there but then I notice that Franz has them all. I smile gratefully at him and shook my head playfully. "Who said that chivalry was dead ..."I say to no one in particular but just continue walking towards the airspeeder and smile at Franz once again.
"Thanks, but really you shouldn't have to." I tell him sincerely before getting into the airspeeder with his help again and I give him a gentle squeeze on his hand while settling myself in the backseats before leaning back to relax for a moment. I definitely concur with his statement and nod when he suggests to head home now, no need for a detour really. "Nope, no detours needed, we do have everything, so home would be great. Thanks Franz."

At this point forward, Crystal was looking at both of her friends with a deadpan look until she pursed her lips and took a deep breath before finally opening her mouth as if to say something but right now nothing was coming out of her lips so she shut her mouth again before clearing her throat this time. "You two are impossible just so you know." Crystal said rolling her eyes playfully before poking her tongue out.
She retained what Lily had asked of her and she looked at her childhood friend and just bobbled her head from side to side. "I don't know baby girl..." Crystal said with uncertainty although she was faking it, that way for sure but then she looked at Elika and shook her head. "No, I am not trying to be a mom, I am still on birth control." Crystal replied laughing softly, her having a child? Maybe in the future but currently it was definitely out of the question and she nudged Elika teasingly before rolling her eyes as she gestured to Lily. "More or less what she said too, so no baby showers, nothing whatsoever, thank you very much."
Walking towards the airspeeder and even though Crystal had argued that she could very well manage with her shopping bags, Franz had to take them all as if it was nothing at all. Wrapping her arms around her friend's arms as they walked towards the airspeeder, Crystal couldn't actually help but to think for a little bit those matters. Was she actually ready to marry Atlantis if he ended up asking her? Was she also ready to even have a child when it looked like that her own childhood was more or less dysfunctional. Added to that, Crystal couldn't even get a hold of her biological dad...
"Sweetie, even if I said I am going to cut those strings, will you really believe me?" She asked rhetorically to Elika as they all came to a stop to board the airspeeder finally. Crystal could not help but to chuckle soon after her statement due to Lily and she nudged her childhood friend teasingly before finally getting into the airspeeder. Sitting down, she looked at everyone and knew that despite doing nothing that was tiring that very afternoon, Crystal was ready to go home.
"Definitely home, to the wine and the recess area." Crystal said with a knowing smile before looking at both of her housemates with a warning glance. "But I am not cooking, so one of you cook." Crystal pursed her lips, it was maybe her little retaliation between one saying that she could manage some toast without burning the kitchen and the other just mixing ingredients like she didn't care which ended up inedible often times, yep a little payback while on their way back home...

The benefit is still in full swing when Helaine slips away from it, dropping unseen from a balcony overlooking the back of the estate. Helaine has accomplished what she was tasked with so far as the benefit was concerned, subtly planting a suggestion rendered imperative with a deft bit of telepathic manipulation for Doran Healy to write an editorial soon on the lengthy and conspicuous absence of Senator Jade in Umgul’s political scene, and just as subtly planting another suggestion for a police commissioner to name Lyov as a potential senatorial candidate when the time comes. The benefit will also serve as an alibi on the exceedingly remote possibility that Helaine needs one after her evening’s play, as she plans on returning before the affair comes to an end and had been visible enough throughout the night that their guests are not likely to recall what she intends to be only a brief absence.
Stopping only to change into the dark clothing and hooded cloak she had left by the pool in the backyard, and to collect her lightfoil, Helaine makes her way to her target on foot. Having scouted her route in advance, she is able to avoid what surveillance cameras lay between her and the palatial estate of her quarry, a well-connected criminal that has been able to elude prosecution by careful compartmentalization and concealment within legitimate business ventures of his true enterprise. The estate is, naturally, patrolled by armed guards and protected by electronic security measures. Disabling the power supplying the estate renders the electronic security measure useless and, while alerting the guards to potential danger, also impairs their efforts to protect their charge during their brief, futile effort to do so. Helaine leaves two of the eight guards alive, dispatching the others with her lightfoil. The two left battered and unconscious yet alive will have, when questioned, an interesting tale to tell, as would her quarry were he to survive.
Trained in the art of dominate mind, an ability enhanced by her natural telepathic gifts, Helaine is able to tear the information she has come for from her quarry’s mind with relative ease without the need to waste time or energy with torture or other forms of persuasion, and she smiles savagely at the Bothan as she ignites the lightfoil held in her gloved hand. It is not Helaine that the Bothan sees, however, just as the two guards left alive will not report that the intruder was a female Zeltron. The Bothan and the guards saw, due to Helaine’s command of alter image, Andros Vyridian. The Bothan does not see Vyridian for long, the lightfoil that pierces his chest and heart the last thing he will ever see.
The entire operation takes less than fifteen minutes from beginning to end, and Helaine makes it back to her and Lyov’s home well before their guests begin to depart. It amuses Helaine, as she mingles with their guests, to wonder whether Vyidian will have anyone to account for his whereabouts for the evening when the authorities question him after hearing the statements of the guards she left alive just for that purpose. The testimony of criminals such as the guards is unlikely to prove anything more than an inconvenience or annoyance to the Vice Governor, of course, but this evening is but the first step in a much larger plan.

The power has been restored by the time detectives Nemes and Pakchoian arrive at the scene of the crime, the lights from the patrol speeders, coroner's hovervan and emergency services speeders adding enough illumination that the house and grounds are lit up nearly as bright as day. Conall Nemes, a scrawny Rodian in a rumpled suit and trench coat, badges his way past the uni's at the front gate of the estate, his partner, Nazani Pakchoian, at his side.
Reading from her datapad, Nazani, a dark haired, short and curvy Lorrdian, reads back the details she had gotten from dispatch on the drive, "Seven dead, including the home owner, Bothan named Tok'la Sike. Two survi. . ."
Stopping Nazani with a hand on her arm, Conall says, "Hold up. Tok'la Sike? When Nazani nods with a perplexed look, Conall, hands on either side of the antennae atop his head, moans, Frak me. You don't know the name? Nazani shakes her head with a shrug, and so Conall informs her, I used to be Narco, Vice before that. Sike's, like, at the top of their most wanted. Was. Rubbing the sides of his face, grunting something like a laugh, the Rodian says, The guys'll be throwing a frakkin' party. We could never get anything on Sike even though we knew he was in the middle of all kinds of bad juju. Starting towards the first of the bodies laying sprawled on the lawn, Conall says, Someone did Umgul a favor tonight."
"Not us, Nazani says, We get stuck cleaning up the mess. You want the rest? Conall nods, so she says, We've got two wits that were busted up being treated for their boo boos at the station. Ready for the really good news?"
Conall, kneeling beside the forensic tech going over the body they reach first, guesses from the wounds he can see, "All the vics died of lightsaber inflicted wounds?"
Nazani, walking around the body and then looking towards another nearby, confirms, "Got it in one. We get all the good ones, huh?"
Conall grunts, standing and nodding towards the front door of the house, not needing to see the other bodies to have a clear enough picture of what happened outside the house, asks, "Wits say anything yet?"
Nazani follows her partner inside, answering, "They weren't conscious when they were taken in. We've got first crack at them. House security went dark before the attack, she continues reading from her datapad, Techs are getting the footage from the nearest street cams to the estate, but I'm guessing they won't have anything useful. Whoever did this was in and out quick. Power went down and that automatically alerted the firm monitoring the house alarm. Uni's arrived ten minutes later to find what we saw outside. Nodding towards the stairs leading up to the master bedroom, she says, Sike was found in his bedroom. Lightsaber wound through the heart, no other wounds. You want to say it, or should I?"
Conall sighs, "Had to be a Force user? To take out that many guards without a shot fired and get away clean? You and I both know forensics won't find jack. I don't see any other possibility. We'll have to check with the Mist Order, see if they have any one on their radar capable of this. Let's get what we can from the wits first. Not show up empty handed."
After getting a look at Sike in situ, which predictably yields no clues, Nazani and Conall release the bodies to the meat wagons so autopsies can be performed, instructing the lead forensic tech to contact them once they have gone over the house and grounds. Instructing the uniformed patrolmen, forensic techs and other personnel that had been on the scene to keep the detail about the lightsaber out of the press, Nazani and Conall head for the station to question the witnesses, who have been put in separate interrogation rooms.
Stopping outside the first of the interrogation rooms, having gotten the file on the witness if identified, Nazani asks Conall, "How are we playing it?"
Conall, loosening his tie and rolling his sleeves up, grins as he asks, "Why change our routine when it works so well? I'll be good cop."
Straightening the ends of her black suit coat, Nazani rolls her neck from side to side and says, "Awesome, then slams the door to the room open and stalks towards the table the witness sits behind and growls, You're in a huge frakkin' heap of dren shit-bird, so do yourself a favor and start talking."

Nazani and Conall have been provided with the arrest records for both witnesses. The red Nikto in the first interrogation room, Eekeb Orainn, has prior arrests for assault, armed robbery, and possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute. Orainn has been incarcerated multiple times, most recently for the possession charge that earned him a five year sentence. Orainn suffered severe facial trauma in the assault on Sike's estate, his face currently a misshapen collection of bruises. Orainn was also treated for a superficial lightsaber wound across his chest, a dislocated shoulder, and a minor concussion. Orainn is unmarried, his known associates all other minions of Sike. Orainn is suspected to have been in the employ of Sike for at least twenty years.
The green Nikto in the second room, Strago, has a similar previous arrest record, with the addition of manslaughter charges that had ultimately been dropped, and has also served time for his crimes. Strago, who had been thrown through a wall near where Sike had been found, suffered a lightsaber puncture to his left side, a broken right shoulder, and several cuts and bruises to his back and head. Like Orainn, Strago has no family to speak of, and has been in the employ of Sike for many years.
The preliminary reports available from the forensic analysts confirms the detective's suspicion that no trace evidence has yet been found, and the isolated location of the private estate meant canvassing was of no use. While the nearest city-owned security camera footage has not yet been reviewed, the estate's location and seclusion would make a search for a potential suspect nigh impossible without information that could narrow the field. Sike was meticulously careful not to keep anything incriminating at his private residence, and all of the guards are listed as employees of a private security firm owned by a subsidiary company of a parent company owned by Sike.
Orainn, sitting calmly with his hands folded on the table in front of him, has been shouted at by cops enough that it has no effect on him, and he is sure that there was nothing at the estate that could be used to make any charges against him. While Orainn has a criminal's reluctance to share anything with the police, he is knowledgeable enough about the law to know that he can be detained indefinitely if they consider him a material witness and a judge can be convinced to sign off on a warrant. Orainn has been debating if that might not be something he actually wants given who he believes is responsible for the assault on Sike's estate.
Speaking calmly, Orainn says, "I think, detective, you find before night over that you the ones in dren. I am victim. Witness. I tell you who kill Sike and others," he holds up a finger, "after you get warrant for material witness status and put me into protective custody. Until then, I say nothing. I promise you this though, what I know is worth it. You need to know what I know. You won't want to know once you do, but you need to," Oriann finishes, folding his hands on the table in front of him once more.

Umgul City - 23rd Precinct - Interrogation Room 3
Nazani was not expecting her initial outburst to net much, but was also not expecting anything like the response she gets from Orainn. There's every chance the Kajain'sa'Nikto is simply blowing smoke, of course, but if he really did not only see the perp but also recognized them, he could make closing the investigation that much more likely. Betting that the crap about the identity of the perp being so incendiary is intentionally overly dramatic to push them into caving in to his demands, Nazani decides to blow some smoke of her own, slamming her hands down on the table and leaning over to get in Orainn's face to shout, "Wrong answer sleemo! Your buddy in the room next door already played this card. He beat you to the really big prizes, and all you can offer at this point is corroboration. You want protection? I don't frakkin' blame you. Now, let me tell you how this is going to work. You tell us a story, and if it's the right story, we'll talk about protection. But Orainn? You tell me the wrong story and I'll toss you out on the streets after giving your name to the press along with some juicy details about how you assisted our investigation. Do the math, how long do . . ."
Conall straightens his tie, the signal he and Nazani use to tell one another to back down, and closes the file he had been reading as he says wearily, "He gets the picture Pakchoian. Dropping the file on the table, Conall tilts his head to the side, asking Orainn, Don't you? Look, we get that you're just a victim. We do. And we aren't looking to jam you up for anything. We just want the killer. Gesturing towards Orainn with a thin fingered hand, Conall says, Same as you, yeah? Sike was good to you, right? So, the Rodian slouches into the chair across from Orainn, help us out here Eekeb. Do us a soild and confirm your associate's story so we can get on with bringing the killer in. Do that, we'll make sure you get material wit status and protection."

Leaning back in his chair when the female detective continues her shouting routine, Orainn looks nonplussed until she reveals that he was not the only survivor of the attack. Not able to maintain his calm composure due to the shock of hearing that he is not the only witness, Orainn's surprise gives way to panic when the detective threatens to release him after making sure the press has his name and is made aware of the fact he cooperated with the police. Torn between his innate distrust of police, compounded by the fact he believes Andros Vyridian is the culprit, Orainn hesitates before responding because a part of him cannot help thinking that this is all an elaborate set up designed to allow Vyridan to finish what he started. Everyone knows the police wanted Sike, why not let Vyridian take care of the problem and turn a blind eye to his methods.
Even though the Rodian is obviously playing the good cop role, his assurances sway Orainn that his conspiracy theory is unlikely. Taking a deep breath, Orainn nods his head, hoping his mistrust of the police will prove unfounded as he says, "It was Vyridian who do this. The one that always look ready to kill someone. Vice Governor." Emitting a hoarse, nervous laugh, Orainn says, "Good luck bringing him in." Crossing his arms over his chest with a wince, Orainn concludes by saying, "I say no more until I have proof you do what you say you do."
As good as his word, Orainn will say nothing more if pressed, though there is little more he could add since he was rendered unconscious after being attacked. Should the detectives speak with Strago, they will find him less composed than his compatriot. The green Nikto is less certain that the police can or will protect him, but every bit as sure as Orainn that his assailant was Andros Vyridian. More willing to talk initially than Orainn, Strago is willing to explain that his identification of the specific Vyridian twin is based on having seen the difference in the way the two carry themselves, though he will admit that he could be wrong about which of the twins was responsible if pressed hard enough.
Shortly after the detectives conclude their interrogations, the report from the forensic investigation of the house and grounds is sent to them. The condition of the grounds did not allow for any footprints to be observed, and the fact that lightsaber wounds are bloodless prevented any footprints inside the house. No hairs that might be used for analysis were found in or out of the house, but some foreign fibers were found on the carpet near Sike's body. The fibers were black, analysis revealing them to be natural origin rather than manufactured. Microscopic examination gave the analyst the shape and size of the fibers, allowing them to conclude the fibers were most likely from an article of clothing. The fibers are, unfortunately, not unique, though they could be used to tentatively match an article of clothing to the crime if one is found during the investigation. The techs reviewing security camera footage from the areas near Sike's home that may have been used to approach the house find nothing that leaps out to them. The suspicion that nothing was taken from Sike's home is confirmed, forensic technicians finding no evidence that anything was removed or searched. The initial report from the coroner confirms that all of the victims died of lightsaber inflicted wounds, with no additional trace evidence having been recovered from the bodies.

Umgul City - 23rd Precinct
Leaning back against the wall outside of the interrogation rooms, Nazani shakes her head as she says, "Man, I almost laughed in Red's face when he dropped Vyridian's name, lifting a hand to rub her eyes as she says, as much to herself as her partner, They're both full of dren. They have to be. I mean, she starts lifting fingers as she lists off her points, both Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum were knocked around pretty good, not to mention knocked the frak out. Red had a concussion. They could just be suffering from delusions. Or the perp used a holoshroud. There's no frakkin' way they actually saw . . ."
Conall, who had been able to avoid giving the game up when Orainn had dropped his bomb due to the fact Rodians always look like they have just been goosed, rests a thin, fingered hand beneath his tapir-like snout as he says, "Right, right. And why leave them alive? Obviously so they would cloud the investigation with this crap."
Nodding vigorously, Nazani agrees, "Yeah. Totally. Frowning as she pushes a black curl behind an ear, she says, Unless that's what Vyridian was counting on. I mean, it's the perfect cover, right? Who's gonna believe them?"
"I don't, Conall says, You don't. No one will. Seeing her point, he moans, Which is the point. Maybe. Frak me, we're going to have to explore this, aren't we?"
"Frak that, Nazani says, pushing off the wall and nodding towards their chief's office, We're passing this mess off onto the chief. Let him tell us where to go with it. You want to knock on the VeeGee's door and ask him where he was tonight? I don't."
"Maybe if we had a SWAT unit with us, Conall mutters, then reasses and adds, Or a UDF platoon or two."
The chief, when finally convinced that his detectives are not joking, decides that he, too, will pass the mess off onto someone else. The someone else in this case is the Sector Rangers, who have wider arrest and detention powers than the Umgul PD. The chief rationalizes that the move is for the best since it is possible that the killer was brought in from off world, and that apprehending him or her will involve leaving Umgul PD jurisdiction. The Sector Rangers have no SEO on Umgul, or any team currently nearby, but know of a former Special Enforcement Officer currently on Umgul that would be suited for the case should it be possible to convince them to be reinstated, and so the chief has Nazani and Conall arrange for Orainn and Strago to be put into protective custody while the Sector Rangers decide who to send to aid them in their investigation, or, as the chief would prefer, simply take it off their hands.

Conversation. Pertaining. Legit.
Everyone has things that really get under their skin. Comms that come in the middle of the night, any conversation that begins with the words 'I hate to do this', and being indebted to anyone are among the things that get under Madieke’s skin the most.
When her comlink chimes at eleven fifteen in the evening, Madieke is fairly sure that nothing good will come of it, and when the first words that are spoken after she answers the comm are 'I hate to do this', she is even more certain of it. Her ex-commanding officer in the Corps of Rangers calling in an old marker means that Madieke, who always pays her debts, has no choice but to do as he asks. After asking to be sent the details of the case she is now officially in charge of investigating, Madieke ends the comm, tossing her comlink onto her nightstand with a muttered curse. Sitting at the edge of her bed, running a hand through her wild, unruly mane of dark brown curls with a sigh, Madieke takes a moment to absorb the fact that while she began the day as a simple private investigator, she is now a Special Enforcement Officer once more. “With the rights, privileges, and honors thereto pertaining . . .” Madieke mutters, standing and grabbing her packet of cigarettes, lighter, and comlink from her nightstand as she runs down the list of things she needs to do before heading to the precinct where the detectives that originally caught the case are waiting.
Having chosen to wear a dark suit and trench coat rather than trying to find her old uniform, Madieke meets Nuala, sitting astride her swoop bike, outside of the precinct twenty minutes after the comm. Nuala, a pale, thin Kuati slicer with a tiny blonde and orange hued Mohawk, hops off her swoop with her laptop dataterminal tucked beneath an arm. Taking an ear bud from a multi-pierced ear, Nuala falls into step beside Madieke and asks, “Was that over-the-comm deputization legit?”
“Of course,” Madieke answers, opening the door and entering the precinct.
“Cool,” says Nuala, returning the ear bud to her ear.
After meeting briefly with the DCI to introduce herself and Nuala, Madieke follows his instructions to the room the detectives that handled the initial investigation have been assigned as their CC and knocks before stepping inside. “SEO Aninh,” Madieke introduces herself without preamble, nodding towards Nuala and introducing her, “Ranger Durnin. We’re here to assist in your investigation.” Walking around the room and taking in any timelines or other data the detectives may have displayed while Nuala sits at the table with her head bobbing to the beat of the Scrak music that can be heard thumping faintly from her ear buds and sets up her laptop, Madieke concludes the preliminary chitty-chat, “We’ve been given the broad strokes, detectives, so why don’t you start by letting us know any of the details you’ve filled in since your interviews with the witnesses.”

Umgul City - 23rd Precinct
One wall of the makeshift command center is devoted to a display that includes a timeline of the attack on Sike’s home, a partially completed breakdown of the known members of Sike’s organization with major roles in its operation, a potential suspect list that currently consists of only Atlantis and Andros Vyridian, and an evidence section with the preliminary autopsy reports of the victims and the black fiber that was recovered from the scene.
Nazani, who had been sitting on the edge of the table in the center of the room reviewing her partner’s progress on the board when the Sector Rangers entered, turns and pumps her fist in the air as she says sarcastically, “Great. The mighty Rangers are here to save us. Don’t you mean you’re here to take over our investigation?”
Conall, tacking a picture of a middle aged human labeled Klivian to the board, turns around and tells Nazani, “Play nice, then holds a thin fingered hand out while walking towards Madieke as he says, I’m Detective Nemes and that’s Detective Pakchoain. The Ranger seems like the uptight type, so the Rodian does not try to engage her in further small talk, cutting straight to the chase, We’ve been working on filling in the rest of Sike’s day, getting a picture of his overall organization, and a feel for any rumblings in the underworld that would indicate this was a power play of some kind. Sike was the stay home and let others come to him type, and according to our wits he was home all day with only two visitors. Both long time lieutenants in his organization, both known for their loyalty. Comm records don’t show any new freqs going back two months, and our wits hadn’t heard of any unrest in the organization. Organized crime here on Umgul tends to be pretty civil, as far as it can be. Any conflicts are conducted with an eye for preventing civilian casualties, and most crimes, like prostitution and drug sales are confined to certain areas and clientele or carried out discreetly. Sike was definitely at the top of the criminal food chain though. Word is he wasn’t too greedy though, maintaining a tentative peace with rivals by allowing them to do their thing so long as it didn’t cut into his. Doesn’t rule out a power play, of course, but, he shrugs, it seems out of character for the overall scene on Umgul to have something on this scale happen out of the blue."
Joining the conversation, her arms crossed over her chest, Nazani takes up where Conall left off, “We’re thinking this was all about Vyridian. Frame job was our first guess, but it seems off. A political target would have made more sense, for one. Vyridian has never expressed much interest in going after the OC element, and the wits were obviously left expressly to point the finger at him. Our other line of thought is that Vyridian’s being named is just distraction.”
Conall jumps back in, reluctantly saying, “We can’t discount the possibility that Vyridian is responsible though, so we’re working on getting access to the biometric records for the government building to see if he was there during the time of the attack or not. Our other areas of focus are looking at who benefits the most with Sike out of the picture and reaching out to the Jedi here with the Mist Order to see if they have any known darksiders on their radar.”

Up to speed. Off base. Sake of formality. Shake up. Reaching out. Arrangements.
It was her understanding that Umgul’s PD was anxious to hand the case off, so Madieke finds Pakchoian’s resentment of the Corps of Rangers stepping in more amusing than anything. Ignoring Pakchoian’s comments, Madieke shakes Nemes’s hand when the Rodian offers it and then just listens without interrupting while the detectives bring her and Nuala up to speed.
Unable to find fault with the majority of the duo’s thinking or actions, Madieke’s gut tells her that they are, however, off base where the perpetrator’s use of Vyridian’s visage during the assault is concerned. Pakchoain’s observation that the choice of target is wrong if the intention was to frame Vyridian is, on the other hand, a keen one. Madieke also does not agree with the contention that the only possibilities for involving Vyridian are a frame-up or a distraction. The choice to impersonate Vyridian, Madieke feels, must have been based on something other than selecting a well-known figure to muddy the investigative waters. What that something may be, at the moment, remains unknowable, and so Madieke sets it aside.
Nemes is correct in asserting that they will need to eliminate both of the Vyridian’s as suspects for the sake of formality if nothing else, and so Madieke looks over her shoulder and asks Nuala, “Can you access the biometric . . .”
Hands already dancing over her keyboard, correctly guessing what Madieke will ask, Nuala says, “On it.”
Addressing Nemes, Madieke tells him, “Stay on the breakdown of Sike’s organization. Try and find out who would naturally assume his position now that he’s gone. Someone may have gotten impatient. Get with the OC unit and find out which of the other outfits benefit most from Sike’s organization being in disarray. There’s a chance someone felt it was time to shake up the status quo.”
“Got it, Nuala interrupts, having successfully hacked into the Mist Government Building’s biometric and comm records using a program of her own design that allows her to get in and out without setting off any alarms or leaving any trace of her presence. Vyridian was on site at the time of the attack. No unusual comm activity before, during, or after the attack.”
Nodding, Madieke turns back to Nemes and says, “Kick the witnesses loose. Get surveillance teams on them, see where they go, whether they meet with anyone, and trace and monitor any comm activity. There’s an off chance one or both are involved somehow, and even if they aren't who they contact could give us an indication of who they think will be taking over for Sike. Turning her attention to Pakchoain, Madieke tells her, Durnin and I will handle reaching out to the Mist Order, and you’re welcome to come along unless you think you’d be more productive here with your partner.”
Once Pakchoain has made her decision, Madieke and Nuala make their way outside to their vehicles. Nuala refuses to join Madieke in her speeder, preferring to ride her swoop bike. Madieke offers Pakchoain the option of riding with her or taking her own vehicle, and once those arrangements have been made gets into her speeder and sets out for the Mist Order’s academy.

The Organized Crime Unit has some knowledge of Sike’s organization, though not as extensive as it would like. Two of Sike’s lieutenants, the male Esselian known as Klivian, and a female Weequay known as Arezou, are believed to be the most logical choices as the Bothan’s successor. It is the OC unit’s belief that both Klivian and Arezou have been in a grooming process by Sike for some time now, each gradually being given more extensive areas of Sike’s operations to control. When the witnesses are released, both protesting vigorously, only the surveillance detail following Strago learns anything of value, his cohort simply returning to his apartment and apparently going to sleep. Strago comms Klivian almost immediately upon arriving at his small home, their brief conversation revealing that Klivian was not likely to have been involved in the attack on Sike since his surprise and shock seem genuine. Klivian also expresses concern for the future of Sike’s organization, his belief being that Arezou is almost certain to push for sole control rather than a joint leadership with him. Before ending the comm, Klivian states he will begin trying to arrange for a sit down with all of Sike’s lieutenants soon.
The OC unit knows of no other outfits that have the resources, influence, or manpower that Sike’s organization possesses, though they do express concern that Sike’s absence could cause some chaos with lesser organizations scrambling to gain advantage without the Bothan to maintain the peace as he had in the past. News of the death of Sike has not yet been released, but is certain to come out in the morning.

Umgul City - 23rd Precinct
Nodding that he understands Aninh's orders, Conall starts with arranging for surveillance teams to tail the witnesses so that they have time to set up before they are released. Breaking it to Strago and Orainn that they are not going to be in protective custody or granted material witness status based on the findings of the investigation is not the high point of his already trying evening, but Conall makes it through the task eventually, trying to explain to the Nikto's that what they saw was not really what they think they saw but something else entirely proving to be the most difficult part.
Once Strago and Oriann are dealt with, the surveillance teams and tails are in place and waiting for them to arrive at their homes or to go where ever else they might head as the case may be, Conall reaches out to to his contact in the OC unit, requesting that they grab a caf so they can discuss the case he is working on. From what he learns, Conall initially thinks it sounds as though Arezou and Klivian should be added to the suspect list, given that they stand to gain the most from Sike's death, but the first reports from the surveillance teams make it probable that only Arezou needs to be looked at since Klivian seems to have been unaware of what had transpired until Strago contacted him. As he is updating the board, Conall remembers the two minions of Klivian that bought it earlier in the week, wondering if that case - which had gone cold - is related to their current one. The MOs are different, and there is no indication that a Forcie was involved in the earlier killings, but Conall adds the case to the board under tangental happenings; thinking that they may be able to tie it in somewhere down the line, or not, depending on what shakes loose. After recommending to the chief that they up the uni presence and patrols in certain areas in anticipation of the possible increase in OC related crimes that could result from Sike's death, Conall sends a summary of what he has learned to Nazani so that the Rangers can be looped in.

After their guests have left for the evening and their household droids, a mix of SE4’s and 3D-4’s that have all been upgraded and modified to act as home security if necessary, have begun cleaning up after the benefit, Lyov and Helaine take a bottle of Jhantorian wine out to a table near the pool in the backyard of their home.
Helaine’s obvious satisfaction with her evening’s hunt has been evident ever since her return prior to the end of the party, and while Lyov knows she would like nothing more than to brag about her success, he asks only, “You’ve learned the whereabouts of the facilitator?”
Helaine’s expression becomes pouty as she pours a glass of wine and passes it to Lyov before pouring one for herself, but she smiles as she replies, “I have. Thinking of all that she learned from Sike before ending his life, and of all the ways she might use that knowledge to free herself from Lyov and facilitate her own ascension in his place makes her smile easy to maintain even though her master maddeningly denies her the admiration and recognition she believes she has more than earned. A florist seems like an unlikely candidate for one with access to so many lovely things, Helaine giggles breathily, but that is the point, isn't it? Why, there’s even a cute little code phrase I need to use to . . .”
Ignoring Helaine’s attempted tangent, Lyov asks, “How soon can you meet with them? We need to move quickly if we are to secure our hold on Sike’s organization.”
“Oh, of course my Master, Helaine says in her high, childish voice, finding Lyov’s tendency to remind her of things that are so evident even more grating than usual. If he truly underestimates her as much as his words and actions often make it seem, killing him might prove easier than she thought, but Helaine does not put it past the Epicanthix to be devious enough to merely feign his ignorance in order to lure her into acting precipitously. I’ll meet with him tomorrow. I even, she smiles after sipping her wine, remember all of the first things you want me to arrange through our new friend.” Helaine will also be adding something of her own to the list of things Lyov wants, the thought bringing a smile to her face as she lifts her glass in a silent toast to the furthering of plans.
Lyov does not return the smile, his expression remaining neutral as he lifts his glass in answer to her toast. He is well aware of the risk inherent in giving Helaine the increasing latitude he has entrusted her with, but Lyov believes that the fact her increased exposure minimizes the risk as well as providing him the option of sacrificing her if their plans are uncovered before they have reached a point beyond which discovery makes no difference.

The Enchanted Florist
Considered by many residents to be the premiere florist shop in Umgul City, The Enchanted Florist was opened ten years ago by Erlinghur and Svana Vilhjalmsson. Both are humanoids of unknown species, their homeworld listed on all documentation as Anobis. The Vilhjalmssons look alike enough to be fraternal twins; both he and she sharing the same shade of blonde hair, the same mis-matched blue and green eyes, and similarly angular faces with thin noses and lips. The twins' identification documents do, in fact, reveal that they share a birthdate.
The rumors of how the Vilhjalmssons came to possess the means to procure nearly anything from almost anywhere, as well as the resources required to see that what was acquired nearly always made its way to Umgul without detection, are numerous. Some believe the twins are ancient, ageless Anzati that have used their abilities and immortality to develop a vast network that spans the width and breadth of the universe; a rumor born from the observation that their ten years on Umgul has left little mark on the twins and from the secrecy surrounding their origins. Some believe the twins were once bounty hunters or smugglers, while others think it more plausible that they were mercenaries, and others believe that they must have once been in law enforcement; all professions that could feasibly have allowed the Vilhjalmssons to make the connections needed to provide the services they so reliably and discreetly provide for a price. All of the rumors and speculations are incorrect, though the twins do not discourage their dissemination.
There is one more rumor about the twins, one that involves the of the head of a criminal family – for the Vilhjalmssons deal almost exclusively with such individuals, and only on the condition their true work remain a closely held secret – who tried to strong arm them into revealing the source or sources of their ability to provide their services. The rumor goes that the attempt ended with the head of the criminal family being torn to shreds and eaten by a Dire-cat. This rumor has, as some rumors do, grains of truth to be found within it. The Enchanted Florist has always been home to a large feline that is never found far from the twins, and the crime lord was, in fact, eaten by that very same, very large feline predator that does indeed have spines or spikes protruding from its back and wicked looking claws that look more than capable of rending flesh to match the cruel teeth that are clearly well able to make a meal of a man. The feline is not, however, a dire-cat, though the twins, if they speak of it all, speak always of it as though it is. A final rumor, this one entirely true, holds that the twins, in all the years after the head of the criminal family rumored to have provided the Dire-cat with a rather unique meal disappeared without a trace, have never once been threatened.

Nic Claus, Umgul City’s coroner, finishes his autopsy of a human male that had been slain in the attack on Tok’la Sike. The human had been decapitated neatly, and therefore nothing of forensic value had been learned from the body save for, when compared with the wounds from other victims of the attack, the probable handedness of the killer. Little details such as handedness have proven useful in building a case before, and Nic is patient, thorough, and meticulous in his work at all times, even those when it seems little can be learned.
Moving on to the autopsy of Tok’la Sike after changing his gown, mask, and gloves to prevent any cross-contamination between victims, Nic begins by making his external examination. Examining a Bothan has unique difficulties, their fur concealing any underlying scars, tattoos, or wounds. After carefully examining Sike’s skin by carefully coming the fur and painstakingly searching for scars or other relevant markings, Nic shaves the fur over the killing blow to his chest, having noticed a discoloration around the wound. Standing back once the fur has been removed, Nic strokes his bushy white beard and examines the discoloration, concluding it is the beginning of a bruise that would have formed had Sike’s heart not been stopped almost immediately after the blow. The killer, he concludes, plunged their saber into Sike’s chest all the way to the hilt. The discoloration, which Nic can see now that he examines it more closely, is accompanied by a shallow indentation as well, but one that is wider than a typical lightsaber hilt would account for.
It is almost, Nic thinks as he measures and photographs the area surrounding the scorched flesh where the saber entered Sike’s chest, like the cup-shaped indentation one would find surrounding a rapier inflicted wound. The area of discoloration is unfortunately too small to gauge the actual size of the particular part of the hilt design, or to make a cast from that would give a partial picture of the device, and so he cannot be certain the hilt was not simply a uniquely wide one with a slightly protruding part such as a blade emitter shroud. Still, if a weapon is ever found for comparison, Nic will be able to determine if it was of sufficiently similar design to be significant from an evidentiary point of view. Adding his findings to the notes for his final report, Nic takes his datapad from the thigh pocket of his scrubs when it vibrates, seeing that Detective Pakchoain will be visiting the morgue soon, with the Grandmaster and a Councilor of the Mist Order academy no less. Sending a reply that he will be available for the rest of the night and into the morning more than likely, Nic changes his gloves again and returns to his work.

In the speeder en route to the crime scene
Atlantis had been pensive ever since he settled himself in the back… Indeed, to who would Andros actually listen to upon finding out about all of this? Now he really understood why Mace had asked that question originally, if the Vice-Governor had been apprised of his privacy’s invasion… Clearly not judging from Madieke’s earlier reply to that. No wonder… Atlantis always had to remember that it was those details that mattered the most. Maybe no one wanted to face the broody, glaring Vice-Governor to let him know that he might have been an accessory to multiple homicides, and maybe because it was really difficult to get an audience with Andros, Atlantis did not know their reasons, but to him between two evils, Atlantis was clearly choosing the lesser one.
He did not want his brother to be driven to a certain edge because he was very capable of obliterating whatever stood in his way, and very slowly too…
Atlantis picked his head up and looked at Madieke remembering her question and statement. “You should have gone to see Andros first and foremost.” Atlantis said before sighing softly although his statement was not a reproach nor disappointment but just a fact that might have been the best course of action. Indeed no one wanted for Andros to do anything rash but obviously no one besides him and Mace knew how rash he could turn out to be… Nonetheless, he smiled because fact was, the two non-Force did not know, so he just moved along and answered the Ranger’s original question. “Councilor Vo-…” He began to say before cutting his statement short because for all he knew, maybe they were thinking he was talking about Mace, who was currently with them.
“Ayla.” Atlantis amended because Mace’s cousin was also a Councilor of the Mist Order. Glancing knowingly at Mace this time with a faint grin. “I am sure that Ayla left earlier to warn Andros. He will listen to her that much I am sure of.” If there was another thing he knew about Andros, his brother respected that much the Kiffars since they were all under Mace’s command. For having witnessed a while ago the immensity of the COs’ core powers and how they operated, there was no way that Andros wouldn’t stop to listen to Mace’s cousin…
Atlantis sighed softly and rubbed the root of his nose before slightly gritting his teeth because this matter was clearly turning out to be annoying and he still couldn’t believe why Andros had been painted as the one who committed those crimes. How many gangs were there exactly in Umgul anyways? “Who are the other major underground players here in Umgul?” Atlantis asked this time to the Detective, because if this was going to be a divide and conquer, then maybe additional surveillance should be added to the other boss gang members…

Powder keg. Moving.
When Atlantis says that he is of the opinion that she should gone to see his twin before doing anything else, Madieke doesn’t take her eyes off the road, her only reply a slight noncommittal shrug of her right shoulder that could mean anything from what’s done is done to simply that she heard him. In light of the UPD’s trepidation where the Vice Governor is concerned, as well as what Atlantis has said about how his twin is likely to take the news of what has happened, Madieke actually has no doubts in her mind about whether she made the right call or not. Angry people, especially those with no available target for their anger, are a hindrance to an investigation at best and a danger to its resolution at worst. The Vice Governor sounds like a powder keg waiting to be set off, and Madieke would prefer that he be kept as far from the investigation as possible for as long as possible. Hopefully, Madieke thinks as she arrives at the point where Pakchoain will need to direct her to the crime scene and glances at the detective to prompt her to do so, Atlantis is right in thinking that Master Vos will be able to keep his twin reigned in. The last thing she needs is for the Vice Governor to go off the reservation and try to muscle his way to answers, which would only alert the organizations under surveillance to the fact they are on someone's radar and could also possibly be exactly what the killer wants to happen.
Arriving back at the precinct, Nuala sits on her swoop to have a quick cigarette before heading inside to find Nemes to convey Madieke’s request. Running a hand through her blonde and orange Mohawk to fluff it up after being trapped beneath her helmet, Nuala enters the room they have been given to work from and tells the Rodian, “Oi. Mad . . . Aninh wants to know if we can get a surveillance team on Arezou. She okayed me to start if the UPD doesn’t have the people to spare. She also wants to keep the teams on the Niktos if possible. Not sitting since she might be getting right back up depending on what the Rodian needs to do or does not need to do to get things moving, Nuala leans against a wall and asks, What do you think the chances are we can do all that?”

Keeping that stoic expression on her features when Detective Pakchoain asked her to confirm the handling body business, Mace only replied by a, “Mhmm. . .” It stopped there, no further explanation, although she wasn’t going to handle the body per se, or maybe she would if she counted the fact that maybe she would have to potentially reactivate the brain with an electrical surge. Again it was a potentially and like Mace had said before, it all depended on what Atlantis saw or did not see. . .
Mace was sitting at the back of the airspeeder because she preferred it there, and also because she liked to think without eyes behind her back. If there was one thing she despised the most it was having stares behind her, it was a pet peeve of hers, granted that she more often than not snuck in on people at any random given time and also granted more often than not, she watched people from afar. . .
But tonight, just tonight she had adopted her usual policy of not talking too much because she was clearly thinking. Even if she was lost in her thoughts, it did not stop her from hearing loud and clear the exchanges between Atlantis and Madieke and as if on cue, when Atlantis spoke the name of Mace’s cousin, she turned to look at the only man right now and blinked once to confirm that statement of his.
Ayla was in fact headed to wherever the Vice-Governor was currently to apprise him of this messy situation. It had been a while since she last worked with people that weren't attuned to the Force, come to think of it, she always avoided to work with them, only as a last resort of course, but this was a different matter. . .
The younger Vyridian was clearly branded as the killer and she wondered why? Was it because whoever committed those crimes knew that for the time being as long as Andros was the current Vice-Governor of the planet, he had diplomatic immunity so to speak so he couldn’t be put on the stand of the accused until he stepped down from his function and therefore it would make it difficult for every enforcement of this planet to pull away from a certain scandal, that maybe they were all corrupt, or maybe. . .
Mace’s eyes widened and she turned to look at Atlantis with a thoughtful expression, remembering a conversation the two of them had about something Crystal had mentioned that morning. “Didn’t Crystal say something about the newly appointed editor? That she had a bad feeling about that?” Asked Mace thoughtfully before shaking her head. Obviously she did not know about the details or the reasoning that might have caused the make to suicide but Mace remembered Atlantis’ words to her earlier that day.
Crystal had qualified that as fast. . . For better or for worst, Crystal was now a Force user and one that Mace knew might surpass her brothers at some point if it weren’t for the fact that she was still refusing to embrace her sensitivity fully. But she also knew that Crystal was a Solaris and that by itself was enough for her.
Looking over at the Detective, Mace took a deep breath and said. “If you can spare some men from your precinct, I need you to also keep an eye on Doran Healy.” Mace was hoping that Detective Pakchoain knew who she was talking about, at least she was sure, right? Considering that he was the newest editor of a prominent paper on Umgul here, and that he replaced the former one that apparently had committed suicide.
Mace glanced at Atlantis and shook her head briefly. “I hope that I am wrong, Atlantis, but if I am not, tomorrow your brother’s name might be splattered all over the front page of the news. And that, all by itself, is going to turn into a scandal even if he does have the support of most of the unfortunate here on this planet by making their lives better and raising their purchasing power. . .”

Nazani has just finished reading the reply from Dr. Claus when Aninh asks the first of a series of questions that the others in the speeder start throwing out. Announcing first, "The coroner is still doing the autopsies and says he'll probably be at it well into the morning as well. He's cool with us dropping in after we check out the crime scene. Addressing next Aninh's question about the surveillance teams on the Nikto's, she explains, The chief gave us 48 hours on the Niktos, so they'll be covered around the clock during that time. Nemes is coordinating that side of things, so he'll let us know if anything shakes loose if we're out and about at the time."
After Atlantis, not so terribly reassuringly in her mind, explains that Ayla Vos should be able to prevent the VeeGee from having a melt down - at least that's what she hopes he means when he says his brother will listen to her - he asks about other OC players, to which she replies, "Sike's organization is the biggest and most influential, and they did a pretty good job of keeping the smaller outfits in check. Sike was smart enough to insulate himself from prosecution by using cutouts, shell companies and other measures, and also to know that if he didn't keep things . . . civil, or as civil as criminal enterprises can be, he'd be shut down one way or the other. He kept violence to a minimum, especially where civilian collateral damage was concerned, and he kept criminal activity confined to certain areas rather than letting it run rampant. There are some smaller outfits we know about, know some of the leadership structures for: one in Furgan that is predominantly involved in illegal gambling and loan sharking, another we think operates out of the city center that is into some small time smuggling involving narcotics, and then one more in Ganterville that is mostly into prostitution and narcotics distribution. Like I said, there's a few more small time outifts into different things, but those are the biggest we know about. Before you ask, she says, from what the OC unit told Nemes, none of them have the manpower or resources to pull something like tonight off. I think Aninh is right, Arezou is worth looking at closely at this point. Maybe she didn't want to wait to be in Sike's position and decided to take him out."
Nazani has gotten used to Councilor Vos asking or saying things that make no sense since she doesn't seem to feel the need to explain even her more cryptic questions or requests, but when, after Nazani has given Aninh the last of the directions needed to get them to Sike's estate, she asks if the UPD can put Doran Healy under surveillance, it seems even more out of left field than usual. After Councilor Vos tells Atlantis that she wouldn't be surprised if his twin's name was all over the news in the morning, Nazani mistakenly concludes she must be worried about Healy, who Nazani knows is a recently promoted news editor for one of Umgul's largest news services, finding out about the things the UPD will be keeping from the press, which Nazani finds offensive since it suggests that someone in the UPD would leak info to any of the vultures in the press. "Are you thinking we have a leak in the UPD? Nazani asks, managing to keep her irritation from her tone with an effort, and then addresses the question she had been asked by speculating, We might convince the chief to sign off on surveillance on Healy, but only if we have a lot better reason than we think he might have a source in the UPD, which I have to say is pretty unlikely. We can't stand the press. I don't see anyone violating the chief's directive to keep the fact a lightsaber was used and the Vice Governor was identified by the survivors from them."
When the speeder stops at the front gates of Sike's mansion, Nazani lifts her badge to the uni standing guard over it and, as they drive through the gates after they are opened, tells the Jedi, "Most of the guards were outside patrolling the grounds. Five of the six were killed in what our forensic team figures was a span of about one minute, hence the conclusion it was Force user. Lightsaber wounds on all five, quick kills. One of the two guards inside was killed, one left alive. Sike was the last vic, found in his office stabbed through the chest with a lightsaber. Coroner estimates that the perp spent a bit of time with Sike before killing him. TOD on Sike was significantly later than that of the guards. Perp was gloating maybe?"
Getting out of the speeder after they pull into the circular driveway in front of Sike's home, Nazani looks around to see if any of the Forensic techs are around in case they need one to analyze or explain anything, and then, spotting a pair of tech in their white suits coming outside, calls out to them, "Vinter! Carracci! Over here a sec. As Vinter, a blonde haired Shownarri, and Cacracci, a dark haired Morganian whose pointed ears are hidden beneath her hair, head over to the speeder, Nazani asks Aninh and the Jedi, Anything you want to see outside? Or should we just head in?"
