Zalor thought about what Tanara was saying. He wasn't forgetting about the Jedi, he was just distracting himself with something while he thought about what to do. It seemed contradictory at first, but the more Zalor thought about it, the more it made sense. Zalor remained silent for awhile, but he finally nodded his head.
To his surprise, an idea of his own popped in his head. He normally didn't stay at the Ja'raak Inn after work, but - if he could convince Tanara to stay at the Inn, also...he could keep all his belongings in his room, and not have to come back home. He would be ready at a moment's notice, but he could put his mind at ease, knowing that his gear wasn't too far behind in case something happened. Then, he could focus on the party.
"Say..." Zalor's frown faded as he started to speak. "Would you like to stay at the Inn on me, tonight? If so, I can get each of us seperate rooms, and we can just stay there. I can bring my stuff, stay a few nights, then I don't have to come back here for anything..." Zalor turned and nodded to Ayfive, over in the corner. "...except maybe have Ayfive over there taken to Kilo's. Whaddaya say? Stick around with me for awhile - then we'll both get to meet Masters Alora and Matango."
A half-smile began to form on Zalor's face, hoping Tanara would take the offer.

As he spoke she giggled and shrugged her shoulders. It wasn't like she had any other plans beyond the party, so of course she would stick around. Besides, her godfather had just said that she would also be needed just as much as Zalor would be, and she intended to help...just not until after the party of course.
"Where else would I stay? You really think I'd give my business to a different inn than the one where one of my closest friends works?"

Zalor laughed and shook his head, beaming from ear to ear in approval. That would nicely tie up one loose end about his final days on Naboo.
"Alright! Then, it's settled. We'll both stay at the Ja'raak Inn until the Jedi come for us. And that means..."
Zalor reached out his right hand towards the satchel that Tanara had taken from him.
"...I'm gonna be needing that satchel back, if you don't mind. If we're staying at the Inn, then I'm not leaving that here. It can stay with me, at my room at the Inn, until we decide whether or not for sure we're leaving with the Jedi. Please?" Zalor made sure to emphasize the 'please' at the end. He certainly didn't want to come across as rude to his old friend, but he would rather have his supplies on him, just in case.

The Twi'lek girl removed her arm from her friend's shoulders and strode over to the chair where she had slung the satchel. After a very brief moment, she picked up the satchel and handed it to her friend. She was fairly certain he wouldn't need it, but clearly her friend wouldn't leave without it. She couldn't come up with a reason for him to leave it behind beyond him most likely not needing it. Satisfied that everything had been wrapped up, she started towards the exit.
"Okay, let's get going. We have a lot to get to before we can head back to the inn for the party."

Zalor motioned towards the apartment door leading outside and gave a huge smile to Tanara, as he strapped the satchel on his back once more.
"Lead the way, Ms. Party Coordinator. Let's go, Artoo!"
Artoo fell in behind Zalor and rolled out of the apartment behind him.
Zalor felt slightly better knowing that he had persuaded Tanara to stay with him at the Ja'raak Inn; although she made a good point - it's not like she had anywhere else on Naboo to stay. He suddenly began to wonder what could be so important to Vincent to leave his fiancee on her own with Artoo and not join her on her trip to Naboo to see Zalor. Whatever it was, it had to have been some job that Vincent simply couldn't pass up. He would have to make it a point to give him a hard time the next he saw the former mercenary.
As they came back out into the streets of Theed, Zalor's mind finally wandered to the party. He didn't want to badger Tanara with details, but he wondered what kind of a party she had in mind. And who would come to it, besides the employees (who, he would admit, didn't get nearly enough recognition and reward for the hard work they had done.) He wondered if he could find his old Gungan friend, Nussan Gallo, and invite him. Then again, he suspected the old Gungan hunter had better things to do in the swamps then come into the big city for a human gathering.
He wished that Sayra, Evan, Asha and the others were there. If there was one good thing about him possibly leaving with the Jedi, it was that he would be able to finally search for any of the other Jedi Shadows, to see where they were and what they were doing. He hoped with all his heart that Sayra and the gang were somewhere out there, looking for him. He wondered why they hadn't come to Naboo. The fact that they hadn't been here bothered Zalor more than anything.

She took the lead as they returned to the streets after taking a moment to orient herself. Once certain of her relative location, she started to lead her friend out and toward the market district. There were several party supplies that she couldn't have delivered to the inn that she would have to pick up. Most of it didn't need to be secret, but there were a couple things that she would have to get the astromech droid to pick up and take to the inn by itself. As they strode down the various streets leading to the market district, she quickly made up a short list for the astromech droid and handed the data pad to the droid.
Artooie, I'm going to need you to go pick up some things for me. Here's a list, just take it all back to the inn and give it to Vaili. She'll know what to do with them. We'll meet you back there, okay?

Rather than taking the datapad, R2-D4 merely pulled out his data extraction arm and plugged it into the holopad. In five seconds, the droid had downloaded the list, after which he retracted the arm, allowing Tanara to return it from him.
[Beep-whistle-whistle-beep]
Artoo seemed happy that Tanara was giving him a job. Without another moment's hesitation, the droid wheeled around and took off towards his first location.
This behavior surprised Zalor, and the former Jedi hero watched in delighted surprise as Artoo obeyed Tanara's commands, and rather excitedly and diligently. Artoo's functions had no doubt improved immensely in Tanara's care. Zalor gave out an amused chuckle, then turned and shot Tanara a rather curious and surprised look...
"You're sending Artoo shopping? Wait a minute, wait a minute...you're sending Artoo? Shopping? On his own?"
Zalor had forgotten how resourceful the droid was back when he was in Zalor's possession, and yet, even still - he suddenly became rather skeptical. He couldn't believe that Tanara had programmed the astro droid for bartering. Even just for small items.
"...some shops and merchants have policies against serving droids. You think he'll be alright?"

She was pleased that the astromech droid was excited to complete the task she gave it and went off immediately. As it began wheeling away, she put the datapad back into her pocket, and turned to lead her friend towards a different section of the market district. Most of the party supplies had been purchased and delivered, with only a handful of items remaining. Her first stop was to get a change of clothes for herself. As much as she liked the green and white trench coat she was wearing, it wasn't appropriate enough for a party.
"Artooie will be fine, I already bought everything on the list, he's just collecting them. You'll understand when we get back to the inn. Come on, first stop is this way. I need a new outfit."
What she didn't tell him though, was that all the stops she had planned were REALLY just to keep Zalor away from the inn until everything was ready. The items she had sent the astromech droid to collect were just the finishing touches. She hoped he would appreciate the lengths she had gone to make this party special.

The wheels in Zalor's head started to turn, as he was always looking for ways to make his friends' lives less complicated, especially when it came to shopping. Zalor reached behind him and pulled out his datapad. As he began swiping through apps, he smiled slyly.
"A new outfit, eh? Well, you're in luck - when I moved back here, I got myself a discount membership to Malarin's. It's a local fashion chain - one I guarantee you will only find on Naboo. Nowhere else in the galaxy. C'mon - there's one two blocks from here. I'm giving you a Neubian makeover."
Zalor quickly took the lead, briskly leading Tanara north down the main street. He remembered this fashion chain from the last time he took Sayra out to get her something pretty. As amazing as Sayra looked in Neubain fashion, he could only imagine what it would do for Tanara.

She giggled wildly as her friend suddenly took the lead. She was interested to see what he had in mind, and very pleased that he was enthusiastic about it. She sometimes wished her fiancee would get as excited to buy her new outfits, but it just wasn't part of his nature. She couldn't blame him for that. Besides, she had...other...uses for him.
"A Neubian makeover? This should be good."
She debated whether to remind her friend that she didn't really need his discounts, as she had access to an unfathomably vast fortune. She flip flopped back and forth before settling on not reminding him. Let the boy have his moment.

Zalor led Tanara down the main street, exactly two blocks where they had been a minute earlier, until on their left, in a big building which matched the rest of Theed's beautiful, picturesque architecture, yet - in Aurebesh - was a large holosign reading, in big broad letters: "Malarin's". Although the building itself was beautiful, the holosign didn't match, and it was a rather large eyesore. Yet, in spite of complaints from regular customers, the eyesore sign remained, and people gradually got used to it - or made fun of it.
Inside the fashion store, however, was no joke. All trending styles of Neubian fashion, for male and female, young and old, ranging in styles from the more practical, less flashy for the gentry, to the extravagant and gaudy for the nobility, were on full display on a sea of clothing racks. Shoes, bags, and accessories lined the walls. Amongst the sea of racks were scattered a few mannequins, each sporting the hottest and latest crazes in Theed. All the descriptions were written in both Basic and Aurebesh. The attendants hired to act as customer service all wore matching outfits which were still flashy, but business-like.
Zalor grinned and motioned to the sea of clothing racks as they entered the store.
"Now, I'm sure you know that I'm not quite a fashion buff, myself, but...if you're gonna take a girl out to get her something nice to wear, you do it here. I've taken Sayra here on numerous occasions, and she's always loved what I picked out - even though it was usually something tame. You know, nothing too weird. Of course, nobody does fashion quite like Naboo. And I mean nobody. I'm not even kidding."
Zalor eyed one of the more extravagant dresses for the ladies. "This stuff is ridiculous."

As he lead on towards the clothing store, she quickly checked on her tablet again. There were a few new messages for her to reply to, which she did promptly, but otherwise nothing else of note. Satisfied that everything was coming together, she put the tablet away just in time to notice the large holosign. To her, it was very tacky, not at all suited for the beautiful architecture it was surrounded by. Wordlessly, she followed her friend into the store. It took no time for her to become impressed with the selection available to her. There were outfits of all types, colours, sizes, shapes and styles. After taking a few moments, she began to browse through the collections of clothing. Even in the first few seconds of looking she found a number of expensive, extravagant and outlandish dresses, most of which she would never be caught wearing.
"Yes, some of these dresses certainly are ridiculous."
In some ways, this store reminded her of the closet in her room, in the original Jedi Enclave on Endor. She had probably owned as many, if not more, clothes as this store had on display. There were times when she missed having that selection, but after traveling with her fiancee on his ship for several years, she grew accustomed to only having a select few outfits. None of which she felt were suited for the party she was throwing.

Zalor and Tanara spent at least ten minutes sifting through dresses. None of the ones they looked at, (and they looked at over a hundred of them,) appealed to Tanara in any way. No matter how tame, extravagant, or 'in between' they found, Tanara just didn't seem pleased by the selection. This really disappointed Zalor. The party was all Tanara's idea, and Zalor was slowly warming up to it, but if they couldn't find something nice for Tanara to wear, the party might never get off the ground. Tanara would be devastated, and that would only make things worse for both of them. It was bad enough that his indecision to join Raven Alora's crusade against the First Order was dampening both their spirits - the last thing he needed was Tanara sunk back in her depression their first day together.
As the search for the perfect outfit grew tiresome, Zalor suddenly became more and more determined to make the trip to Malarin's a success. Finally, after twelve more minutes, Zalor had a plan...
"Alright...you know what? This isn't working. I've got a better idea. Come with me." Zalor gently took Tanara by the arm and led her to the west wall of the store, towards the back. "Malarin's has a special 'Dee'ja Peak' line for ladies. Most of the outfits I got for Sayra every time I took her here were from there. They're a bit pricey, so...I've been trying to avoid them, but honestly - if they look as amazing on you as they did on her...then maybe we'll find something."
They had almost gotten to the VIP section when Zalor spotted one of the female associates that he thought looked familiar. He was about to walk past her when Zalor caught her eye and she spoke up.
"Oh! Hey - I think I've seen you before. Yeah! Aren't you that Jedi guy who works at the Inn down the street from here? Valor?"
Zalor shot the female associate a confused look. Within seconds, however, he realized that she did, in fact, look familiar. She had worked here the last few times Zalor had taken Sayra with him to Malarin's. 'Brianna', her nametag said. The black hair done up in a bun and sweet smile looked familiar, too. Yes, he had definitely run into this particular store worker before. Unfortunately, he also remembered that she talked. A lot.
"Uh...it's...Zalor." Zalor replied with a sheepishly awkward smile.
"Zalor! That's right! I remember you. Gosh, it's been years. And yet, you don't look a year younger. Uh!, that's so not fair. I wish I had your genes. Or, at least, I wish my boyfriend looked as young as you." Brianna threw her head back and laughed. Zalor bit his lip nervously as he suddenly began to remember how...much...she...talked. "Don't tell him I said that, okay? But, seriously - you look great! But, uh - I seem to remember the last time you were here you had your girlfriend with you. She was a...Echani, right? Silver hair, silver eyes, drop dead gorgeous, looked dazzling in everything she tried on! Sara, right?"
"Sayra." Zalor nodded. He only stopped biting his lip enough to respond, but bit it again, harder, as the awkwardness of the situation increased.
"Sayra! That's right. Ugh, I'm so sorry - I'm bad with names. So, uh...where is she?" The associate stopped talking only long enough to gasp and shoot a shocked and pitied look at Zalor as she eventually realized what Sayra's absence could've meant. "Oh, no! You mean...you're not with her anymore are you? What happened?"
If only Tanara had looked at Zalor that exact moment, she could see him wincing in pain ever so slightly after Brianna asked her what happened. Suddenly, scenes began rapidly flashing in Zalor's mind, accompanied by a string of noises...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
~"Evan! Evan, take off! Take off, now!"~
A hum of Zalor's lightsaber. Blaster shots flying past him...
~"Evan, NO! Don't take off! We are not leaving without you, Zalor! Get on the Otana!"~
The distinct roar of TIE fighters overhead.
~"Boss, we've got enemy fighters incoming! I'll get on the turret!"~
~"Zal, hurry your choobs over here and get on board!"~
~"Take off without me! If you don't leave now, you won't be leaving at all!"~
Zalor moved his lightsaber to reflect the shots back at whatever was shooting at him, but it was happening so fast, he couldn't remember who or how many there were of them.
~"Evan, there's a swarm of fifty TIEs, four clicks out! It's now or never!"~
~"ZALOR!"~
~"Zal!"~
~"Go now, Evan! Get to Bakura, I'll be right behind you!"~
~"Kriff! We're liftin' off!"~
Zalor remembered watching the Otana, Evan's YT-2000, lift off into the blue sky and speed away with fighters hot on his tail. That's the last he saw of his beloved friends.

She calmly allowed herself to be pulled away by her friend towards a different section of the store. They were having no luck in finding an outfit she liked, so checking a different section would prove beneficial to their search.
"Zal, Grampa left me a fortune, so money is a bit inconsequential."
Of course, she didn't say that to brag or anything. She just didn't want him to worry about budgets or breaking the bank or something. Hopefully he wouldn't take her comment as a criticism or something. As they approached the corner of the store her friend intended for them to reach, they were stopped by a human female who seemed to recognize her friend. She stopped with her friend and listened to the employee talk on and on, until she finally seemed to drift off with her final question. With a quick glance to her friend, she confirmed her suspicion that Zalor was uncomfortable with the subject, to put it mildly. Without a moment of hesitation, she stepped slightly ahead of her friend, suddenly seeming immensely more intimidating and threatening, despite her small frame. She spoke softly, yet her voice was as cold as the vacuum of space, layered with the promise of swift and bloody retribution.
"I'm going to say this once, so listen carefully. Stop talking, turn around and walk away."

Zalor snapped back into reality just in time to see Tanara walk up to Brianna, the uber-talkative store clerk, and give her a threatening message which Zalor could barely hear.
However, he watched as Brianna reacted to whatever Tanara had just told her, and she was clearly shocked and surprised. She took three steps back and stammered, seeming embarrassed and deflated. "Oh...I...I'm sorry, I..."
Although Tanara could often appear passive and shy, Zalor knew better. He knew how fiercely protective of her friends she was. He could also tell that the tension between Tanara and the store clerk was about to cause a scene. Ever quick to avoid tense situations whenever possible, Zalor sprung into action without a second's hesitation. He smiled sweetly at Brianna while putting a comforting arm around Tanara, and decided to divert the awkwardness with a small fib... "Uh, Brianna, this is my...*ahem*...new girlfriend, Tanara Ajahn. She and I stopped in to get her something nice to wear, because...we're...going out later tonight, right sweetheart?" Zalor secretly hoped that Vincent Darklighter wasn't within earshot. That would be bad. "We're on a bit of a time crunch, though, so - we're just gonna head to the Dee'ja Peak VIP section and pick something out so we can be on time. It was great seeing you again, Brianna. Catch you later!"
Before either Tanara or Brianna had time to react, Zalor gently took Tanara by the arm and quickly whisked her away from Brianna and further toward the VIP section of the store.
"Oh, uh...okay! Bye Zalor! She's one lucky gal!" Brianna called back as the duo fast-walked away.
Zalor took Tanara as far away from Brianna as he could. When they were about thirty feet away, Zalor looked back to make sure the coast was clear. When he was sure Brianna was out of earshot, Zalor slowed down, took his arm off Tanara, and immediately began to apologize. "I'm so sorry - if I knew she was still working here, I would've warned you before hand. At any rate, thank you for playing along and not...you know...smacking me across the face or anything." Zalor bit his lip hard once again, hoping Tanara would accept the apology.

Even after five years, she still hated being cold and threatening. It clashed with her personality entirely, even if it was often very effective. Hardly anyone expected the harsh, and sometimes cruel things she could say and do. For as much as she used it, she sometimes regretted letting her grandfather instruct her on being cold, harsh and cruel. Even so, some miniscule part of her enjoyed seeing the human girl cower and step away. She knew, however, that later she would feel bad for doing it, as she didn't actually have anything against the girl. She had simply been asking questions that made her friend awkward and uncomfortable.
If there was one thing she didn't expect from her friend, it was how quickly and casually he had announced that she was his new girlfriend. Of course she knew it was a lie, and that he was just trying to end the line of questioning, but that didn't stop it from being highly amusing. She made no attempt to resist when Zalor put his arm around her, and instead put her arm around his waist as a show of support. Then her friend quickly began moving the two of them toward their destination. As they walked away, she turned her head slightly to look back at the human girl and smiled sweetly at her, in complete contrast to her threatening statement less than a minute before. She then turned her head and continued walking with her friend, satisfied to ignore the girl they had left behind.
Eventually her friend slowed down and began apologizing for the lie. She considered for a moment how she would respond.
"First Sayra, then Norme, and now me? Boy you sure move quicker than Vincent does. But if I'm supposed to be your girlfriend now..."
She quickly looked around to see how many customers and employees would be paying even the slightest attention to them, then forced Zalor to a stop. Without the slightest hesitation, she swooped in and kissed him, shoving her tongue in his mouth for good measure. She would later admit that Vincent was by far a better kisser, though Zalor had clearly learned a little bit from dating Sayra. She kissed him for several reasons, the first obviously being to help sell the lie that they were dating. The second, was because she had always felt a little something for her friend, and decided to use the opportunity to act on it. The third reason, was because it would be fun to see how her friend would react.

Poor Zalor never saw it coming. One second he was apologizing and hoping she wasn't angry at him.
The next...
A tingle went down his spine as her lips met with his. His eyes widened. WHAT WAS SHE DOING? His heart rate skyrocketed. It took him a second later to realize that she was really selling the act, moreso than Zalor anticipated. But, why? Was she really that fed up with Vincent's absence that she felt the urge to plant one on her best, platonic guy friend, just to spite him? Or did she actually, secretly like him enough to be comfortable with this? Either way, Zalor wasn't completely comfortable with this display of affection.
Of course, he would later admit that he wasn't entirely uncomfortable with it, either.
The kiss seemed to last forever, but in reality, only lasted a couple of seconds before Tanara let him go with a flirty grin on her face. When his mouth was free, Zalor's jaw dropped and he was speechless for, at least, several seconds. Completely speechless. He looked around from Tanara to the rest of the store to see who had witnessed it. So far, no one really seemed all that interested in what was happening in the woman's fashion section, much to Zalor's relief.
When Zalor finally got his voice back, true to his character, he could only, at first, utter a series of awkward vocal sounds.
"Wha-....Uh....I....Tana...ra...you...just..."
Then he shut his mouth long enough to bite his lip, while he thought about how he really wanted to respond to Tanara. Her cute, adorable response to his stammering wasn't helping. However, before long, he found the ability to form sentences again. As he resumed walking towards the VIP lineup, he lowered his voice and spoke calmly and softly.
"I...don't know how long you've wanted to do that - but, uh...when we do finally come across Sayra and Vincent and the others, it's probably best that what just happened doesn't leave this building. Agreed?"

After a few seconds she ended the kiss and took a step back, a wide flirtatious grin on her face. As expected, her friend was stunned and couldn't even speak at first. Poor boy, he really wasn't expecting that. She giggled at her friend's awkwardness, it was exactly the kind of reaction she had been hoping for. He was so cute, adorable and innocent. "The look on your face is priceless, Zal. Is that how you reacted when Sayra first kissed you too?"
It didn't take him long to recover his wits and resume walking to their destination. Personally she would've liked him to take a bit longer to recover, but it was good that he recovered quickly. They did still have a party to attend. As they walked, she looped her arm around his. As to whether Sayra and Vincent would be informed of the kiss... "I make no promises. Vincent is sometimes very attractive when he's jealous."

First she kissed him. Then she was flirting with him. Now, she was linking arms with him and being cuddly and getting right up into his personal space. Tanara was now making it clear that she was going to milk the act for all it was worth, and there was nothing Zalor could do to stop it. It felt very awkward, and yet - this was Tanara. They had been friends for years, and she clearly liked him. It was no use trying to resist at this point, Zalor thought.
And so, Zalor finally led Tanara to the Dee'ja Peak line in the very back of the women's section, arm in arm. When she mentioned Vincent, though, Zalor chuckled nervously. "Right. And people often get injured when Vincent gets jealous. I've seen it happen."
Zalor was very quick to change the subject, as he was eager to get out of the shop in case someone else from the old days had found them and was watching. His senses told him that he was probably overreacting, but Zalor had learned that it was better to be safe than sorry.
He finally allowed him to calm himself when a few of the dresses caught his eye. One in particular was a cute, knee-high skirt and blouse combination, in baby blue. He knew Tanara liked to wear boots, and, after imagining her in the one-piece, it seemed to fit her style. He pointed at it. "I think I got a winner here, already. I told you these would be amazing."

Her friend spoke true when he said that people often got injured when her fiancee was jealous. It wasn't really his worst quality, she still considered his addiction to death sticks to be worse. Sadly, even after five years she couldn't get him to quit. It was just a part of who he was now, and she had to grudgingly accept it. She did miss him terribly, but until he contacted her to let her know that he was finished with his mercenary job, she didn't want to dwell.
They had finally arrived to the back of the store, and they wasted no time in renewing their search for a new outfit. Within seconds her friend called out to her, directing her attention to the outfit he had been looking at. It certainly fit the bill of what she was looking for, though she felt it was still missing something. She nodded approvingly as she checked the available sizes. "Not bad, but do they have it in my size...." After a few moments she found it in her size and pulled it off the rack, throwing it over her arm as she moved to the row of shelves with all the accessories. She spent several minutes going through it, until she finally settled on a handful of colourful bracelets. She then picked out a wide, dark brown weaved belt and knee-high dark brown boots with one inch heels. "Okay, I think this'll look great. Now I just need to try it on..." She quickly looked around until she spotted a nearby change room and started walking towards it. Now that she had all the pieces of a new outfit, she was extremely excited to try it on. It took her only a minute to reach the change room and step inside. Once she was satisfied she was in private and alone, she took her pack off her back and set it down and began undressing. She couldn't even remember the last time she had gone clothes shopping, but she was sure she had been with her sister. Oh the trouble the two of them would get into. She really did miss those days.
Once she had finished changing, she gave herself a look over in the change room mirror. She really liked it, and it was very comfortable. Pleased with the selection, she stepped out of the change room and took a few steps towards her friend, who had been patiently waiting. "Well? What do you think?" She gave him a little twirl, while sporting a wide grin on her face, matching the sparkle in her eyes.
