Ludo Karesh, wearing formal Umbaran garb, walks side by side with his escort. The players have truly been moving their pieces at an astounding rate recently; this game is almost reaching its climax. We shall see what surprises await us this evening. I assure you, my dear, you will find it most entertaining. Ludo had been playing this game for a long time and had subtly manipulated events in his favor. Rather he had been playing two games simultaneously. Crom’nen and Landrin, his two nemeses, at least one was guaranteed to be here tonight. The other, as far as Ludo knew, still resided on Rodia. Odd though, his source on that planet had reported that Oraltor had left, yet nothing had been mentioned of his upstart young pupil. This scared Ludo in a way he had not experienced in a long time. Wherever that young man traveled, trouble always found him and Ludo no longer knew his exact location. His goals for the evening were twofold. First, his mere presence would hopefully visibly unnerve the Twi’lek. Second, he hoped that he could convince the Rodian Senator that Landrin was a dangerous fugitive from the law and thus turn his place of refuge against him. Oh well, enough time this evening to tweak his plans as events unfolded. He approaches the entrance to the event and offers her his arm.
Senator Ludo Karesh from Tralus and escort.
As he enters, Ludo looks up to the balcony where Crom'nen stands and meets his eyes for about two seconds before entering the room. As soon as Crom'nen heard the name, he stared at the front door. So, this was Ludo Karesh. Umbaran. Interesting. And the escort? This was too much. Crom'nen had met her before, but never Ludo. But he did know that Ludo was behind a break-in at his house, tampering with his personnel records on Ryloth, and had collected a bounty Crom'nen offered for the safe return of a human female, a bounty that he had only offered to score political favors. Some how, this being had decided to entice Crom'nen into... something... Crom'nen had a knack for reading people, discovering their hidden motivations, and exploiting those motivations to manipulate their behavior. He had yet to discovered why Ludo had selected him out of all the beings in the galaxy, and why this man had decided to engage him. (The music box, perhaps? Then why not take it while in his home?) This was, in fact, the first time Crom'nen had laid eyes on the Umbaran. Crom'nen did not forget a face, even a random one in a crowd. That said, Crom'nen's face betrayed none of this, only cold concentration. From his right, the shadow spoke. Would you like for me to--? =Crom'nen= No, absolutely not. I still have the trump card this evening. Do not move on him unless he makes a move on me. But he will make no move on me. Whatever he is up to, he's in this for the long game. This is just his next step, not his final solution. Not tonight. Crom'nen then turned to the call down the hall, toward the large Yuzzem. The creature was large, and covered with brown fur. He carried a large serrated Scimitar, allowed at the personal bodyguard for Crom'nen. He was missing one eye, which was covered by a purple bandana instead of an eye patch. He had the size and strength of a Wookiee, but their species spoke basic and were even more primitive and barbarous. =Dunn= Master? =Crom'nen= Bring me that Umbaran. His name is Senator Karesh. Ask nicely. =Dunn= Yes Master. The large beast walked down the stairs, the crowd basically parting around him as he hunted his target.=Dunn= My Master wants you, please. You could say that Master Ruso's suicide sparked the jedi leaving the world. Honestly, though, Master Nadon came to Coruscant to help an old friend find his way. Landrin, on the other hand, came for reasons of his own. He suffers from some major guilt that his training has not removed. I hope he finds what he is looking for here. If not, I expect him to move on soon and continue searching. Bel'fima heard the announcement of Ludo's arrival as well. She knew everything Crom'nen knew about him, which was... not much. But she too had "heard" the messages Ludo had sent, and knew he was dangerous. She looped her hand through the Rodian's arm, and began to pull him toward the stage and away from the entrance.I am very sorry to hear of Master Ruso's death. Are they sure it was suicide? The Sakiyan I knew was an ultimate warrior, not one who gave up in any circumstances. I can't image that he would change that much since the time I knew him.

Running fashionably late as always, Kel'Al finally reached the 500 Republica over an hour after the festivities had begun. No one who knew him would be surprised by the timing of his arrival or his presence at such a gathering, but the one unusual facet of his appearance was the larger than normal entourage surrounding him. Typically, the Jedi Master arrived alone, or accompanied by at most one other Jedi. Tonight was different, and he was accompanied by three carefully chosen companions, selected not as guards, but so as to reinforce elements of the messages he planned to present during the course of the evening. Reaching the main entrance, they paused, then entered one by one as the Herald read their names aloud from the small card that Aylee had presented him.
The Jedi Master entered first, clad in his signature green robes, his lightsaber notably absent.
=Herald= "Jedi Master Kel'Al Raganella of the Corellian Jedi Academy."
And next, a beautiful blue-skinned young Twi'lek woman, well known in the political sphere on Coruscant.
=Herald= "Miss Aylee'saresh, Chief of Staff to Senator Dmitri Koronov of Corellia."
Followed by a Selonian woman in full CDF naval dress uniform, who towered over her companions.
=Herald= "Captain Sara Ruluwoor of the Corellian Defense Forces."
And lastly, almost as if an afterthought, but actually chosen with the precise intention of gathering intelligence about the enticing mixture of guests tonight, was another green-robed Jedi, much younger than Kel'Al, with jet black hair neatly slicked back.
=Herald= "Jedi Knight Jordan Halcyon of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant."
Ordinarily Kel'Al would have preferred not to have attention called to his arrival, but tonight it made a lot of sense to use the opportunity. He wanted everyone to know that he had arrived in the company of two non-humans, including a Twi'lek, and he wanted the Imperials to know exactly which two Jedi had just arrived. Kel had a certain reputation for unconventional negotiations, albeit it very old at this point, and Jordan had very recently had a meeting with Seleevan Khar himself. If the Imperials had anything to say to the Jedi Order, they were certainly not the only two possible targets for communications, but they would be two reasonable ones.

Dmitri's eyes narrowed as he made eye contact with a familiar face (Cass) in the crowd. It was the man who had come to his aid during the attack in the Senate cafe yesterday, he realized. The Senator was surprised. What was the stranger doing here, and how had he slipped inside without being announced? His surprise shifted to concern as he saw the stranger being confronted by the familiar and repugnant form of Seleevan Khar, the Vor 'god' of Vortex. The red-eyed man's body language indicated that the two were not acquainted, and that whatever the Vor had said by way of introduction had not been friendly.
Koronov was about to stand up and join Khar in confronting the stranger (or possibly, rescue him from the Vor's clutches, if need be), when his attention was drawn by the approaching Emperor. Koronov had not missed the Emperor's visit to Crom'nen's balcony, and he was still processing what to make of their apparent disagreement when Nicademus addressed himself and Senator Z'daya. Abandoning his interest in Cass for the moment, he stood up, and extended his right hand cordially.
"Good evening, Your Majesty." He replied cautiously, the corners of his mouth twisting into a slight smile.
And then was somewhat unceremoniously interrupted by the Vor, with a wild accusation against the red-eyed stranger, accusing him of possessing one or more lightsabers. Knowing that any darksider wielding a lightsaber at an event like this would already be well known to Khar, Koronov merely smiled and shrugged his shoulders. His curiosity was peaked, but he wanted to get rid of the Vor before he asked any personal questions. Encountering the young man twice in two days could not be a coincidence, and he had been most helpful yesterday.
"This man is my guest tonight." Dmitri said in his most Senatorial voice, staring the Vor in the eye. "I will not allow him to be bullied without cause. Present your evidence against him, or leave us be. You're going to scare the donors, and no one wants that, do we?" The claim was a lie, but would be difficult to disprove, and he had a point. The only thing worse than a weapon being present at the festivities would be the very public confiscation of an illegal weapon, which would ruin everyone's trust in the security protocols and send the wealthy and famous fleeing in all directions.

He replied cautiously, the corners of his mouth twisting into a slight smile. Nicademus would step forth to Senator Koronov who had extended a more friendly greeting. His gloved hand reached up, gripping the Corellian's hand firmly. Nicademus was glad to see that, despite being the Emperor and thus representing the Empire at this event, he was warmly greeted by Republican senators such as Bel'fima, Crom'nen and now, Koronov. The Emperor then shows a grin to the Corellian. You need not address me as 'Your Majesty,' Senator Koronov. Such a title is far too lofty among the many equals that are participating in this event. As you can even see, I do not wear lavish robes befitting my station, only a simple Imperial officer's uniform. I was never a man for extravagance anyways. The Imperial laughs at his own remark which was a true statement. He hardly wanted to wear formal clothing suited for an Emperor; they weighed too much, restricted his movement and made him feel like a decoration. A simple officer's outfit was crisp and easy to manage after all.

There was one part of Dmitri that longed to take out the special comlink in the left pocket of his jacket, depress the button, and call in the Republic Senatorial Guard to arrest the Emperor right here, on the spot, but he calmly reminded himself that the man had done nothing yet to warrant such treatment, at least so far as the Republic knew (not that they knew much of anything yet, intel had a name and a face and that was about it). It was very early in the man's rule, and he deserved a chance to prove what sort of rule it would be. He hoped that appearances were correct, and the man was not a Sith. Even that, in itself, would be a major positive development.
"Very well, then." Dmitri chuckled. "You can't be too careful in this environment, you know." The Corellian Senator's half-smile cracked into a full-faced, crooked grin at the Emperor's comment about extravagance. He himself was dressed in a simple black suit coat and pants, with a white shirt and a green tie -- formal but practical, without any extra decorations or embellishments, aside from a tiny Galactic Republic lapel pin "It seems that you and I have something in common. I never could understand the logic behind wearing seventeen layers of clothing."
He retrieved the half-finished glass of bubbly that Zarine had given him, and took another sip. "I am impressed that you chose to come to Coruscant, even for such an important occasion as this. I have always believed that democracy flourishes when we are comfortable enough in ourselves to open our borders to anyone who comes in peace, but there are many here who would surely desire to see you in handcuffs, or worse."

Nicademus listened to the words of the Senator attentively. His councilors had said the same thing; while he may be the new Emperor and thus one the Republic would have little intel on, that meant that he was a mystery. And being in such a state of mystery could easily cause some worries; worries that could risk his own life. Nicademus remained quiet and showed no concern in the final words of the Senator. His gaze calmly glances at the two Imperial Knights before speaking to Koronov.
My councilors insisted that I bring plenty of personal security. I to use various means to convince them that a small personal guard of two Imperial Knights would do. After all, this is my first public appearance and I must not be seen as some...belligerent or paranoid figure. I must be seen as the New Emperor, not be viewed with the same gaze that my predecessor received.
It was the truth; Nicademus wanted to be the New Emperor, a person that who had a face and was seen publicly. Not hidden in the darkness nor shrouded by mystery. He had promised change to his Empire and that was what exactly he was planning to do. The Emperor would then smile at the Corellian as he spoke further.
After all, my predecessor was a Sith and I am just as normal as you are, Senator; I am but a simple non-force individual. My beloved homeworld was Eriadu, I raised in a family devoted to the Imperial cause, decorated by a military career up until recently and then here. At the helm of the Empire that my father told stories about to me as a child.
Nicademus then looks around at the event, noticing the various faces and persons from across the galaxy. The smile continued to remain upon his lips as the Imperial would continue speaking. The Emperor remembered imagining such a place; a location where so many species could be seen. It was a dream of his since a child and now it was real.
I know I come with the possibly of threats to my own life, Senator. Yet that did not deter me from coming. I have wanted to see Coruscant since I was a child and gaze upon its spires, its beauty, its wonders. I come here as not just the Emperor, but as a representative of my citizens. Of my people. Of my Empire. I must be seen and seen as a strong Emperor, undeterred by anything and anyone. I must show that there is a face to the Empire now, not a shadowy presence nor a figure that lurks within the darkness.

=Nuukh Hakh'khar= Entering the festive event without being announced was a difficult task, but it was not impossible. Nuukh cleared security, then pulled out his comlink and pretended to be very busy with it as he waited in the lobby and observed the heralds. He waited until they had either given up on him or forgotten him, then began to wander a little closer to the entrance. Dressed in Mandalorian armor with a black cloak drawn around himself over the beskar'gaam, the secretive man made absolutely no noise as he walked on padded feet and within specially dampened armor. Waiting for the precise moment that each herald was busy preparing to announce or announcing another guest, he strolled into the hall confidently, his body language carefully chosen as if he had been there previously and was returning to his seat from some side chamber.
A multinational gathering such as this offered an un-ignorable opportunity for intelligence gathering.

Cass had an opportunity to get out of this with no further problems. He just needed the senator to play along. Body language told him there was no love loss between him and the Vor. This should work. Cass bows his head to the senator, he speaks to him in a soft voice. Not a whisper, but not something anyone farther then a few feet away could here in an atmosphere like this. Thank you uncle Koronov, I was just finishing the security check you asked me to accomplish. No real threats. Most here are arms in some way, hidden vibroblade, holdout blaster, typical Corscaunti upper class party. Everyone pretends to trust each other, while expecting a knife in the back. Nothing really of note. I had attempted to keep a low profile like you had asked, the head of security here is surprisingly thorough.

Landrin looks at the two cards dealt to him, the two and three of flasks. Two of the three cards needed for the best hand in the game. He takes a third card before placing his bet, the idiot. Alas, it was too early to play the array. He does not put any of his cards in the interference field. Soon, the cards change, and he looks at his new hand: the mistress of coins, balance, and the ace of sabres. 17. Not the best hand, but it was enough for him to win the hand.

The only thing worse than a weapon being present at the festivities would be the very public confiscation of an illegal weapon, which would ruin everyone's trust in the security protocols and send the wealthy and famous fleeing in all directions. Khar did not have to proove shit. He knew that the intruder was not the Senators family, nor guest. If that was the case, he would have spoken differently, acted differently with him, not to mention have him listed as a guest on the guests list. That was Khars greatest lead, wich wasnt much, but it was enough for him to be convinced. He may not have remembered whom comes with the smallfish, but when you see an opponent from your last military campaign, you want to make sure you know everything there is to know. Seleevan knew the names of Koronovs attaché, same for the Yavin 4 senators. He had warred both sistems enough.
An other thought occured also. What if he was put here out of political reasons? To be the Security chief and... fail. That would put a cruch in his plans and chances...
He eyed two stirdy cupboards coming his way. The local security had started to slowly move towards the commotion, making sure they also could represent the 500 Republica security, should it be needed. Seleevan saw them and nodded, so they picked up the pace from slowly moving amongst the crowd to a bit faster steps. Khar also got the Senators meaning."Son, give over the saber now, nice and easy. Do as the senator says and dont make a scene." He simply ignored Cass and his rambling. At this point, Seleevan wouldnt believe him even if he claimed that Khar himself was a Glorified Security guard at a Wormhead Charity party. That nod the youngling tried to exchange with the Senator was also too obvious to the Vors sharp eye. Something fishy was going on, and it was a lot more intresting then placing bets at the roulette table.

Bel'fima was disturbed at such news. No, no one could have forced Brulax into a cryo-tube against his will. But why? Some vision of the Force to preserve himself to a later century? Or some fear or threat that gripped the Sakiyan so? Visions were more of Oraltor's department than Ruso's, but the Force could act as it willed, or so she had heard. Still, this made little sense to her. She allowed her sadness to creep into her demeanor. That is disturbing, to say the least. I shall miss him. The galaxy as a whole somehow feels more dangerous without him. But we should talk of happier things. Tell me, who is this young human you came with? A Jedi Knight? Bel'fima knew much about Landrin Starholder, probably more than the Rodian, but she had to play along.

He had not heard all of what Cass had said earlier, but he had heard enough to know that the intruder had spun a lie for the Vor, and the Senator was reluctant to say anything to confirm or deny the red-eyed man's cover. If he reaffirmed too much of the fabricated story, then he would be putting himself at risk of being responsible for the consequences of this man's actions. But he wanted to get the man away from the Imperial security official, and find out for himself what the man's purposes were. He absolutely did not trust the Vor to be benevolent toward whatever cause had motivated this kid to loiter around the government elites for the past two days, and he was grateful for the man's help yesterday when he had been attacked in the Senate cafe.Nicademus listened to the words of the Senator attentively. So, if I produce a hidden weapon for you you will leave me to my business? Is what what I am hearing? Fine.
Cass reaches out his hand toward a fat Bothan at one of the gaming tables. The Bothan is spun around, and out from under his shirt flies a hold out blaster. It lands barrel first in Cass' hand. He proceeds to attempt to hand it butt first to the Vor.
Does this one suffice or would you prefer an additional one. Perhaps, the one the Togruta at the bar has in her hand bag?
Cass again reaches with his left and pulls a vibro knife, that flies into his out reached hand. Handle first.
Darn, I was wrong. When I saw the handle I thought it was another hold out blaster. He flips it, now holding it on the back part of the blade in front of Khar, to take.
Either of those the weapon you are looking for. Cass asks as he waits for the Vor to take them. In no way is Cass holding them in a way threatening to anything other than the Vor's ego.

"I absolutely loved people -- until I got into politics." It hadn't been the most politically correct statement, but Dmitri was loosening up a bit now.He finished his drink and looked around for another. The Emperor gives an affirmative nod to the Corellian. Koronov was indeed a veteran among the senators within the Republic. He carefully chose his words and displayed his expertise in speaking. Such a man could be a worthy ally and adversary.Indeed, Senator. Citizens, the lives of innocent people, should never endure the punishments and consequences of war and battle. While some may think that to kill them ensures they are not handed a weapon to strike back later, there are plenty who have no desire nor the ability to do so.Nicademus grabs himself a drink from a passing waiter. He sips it lightly; this one had quite the kick to it. The Imperial wondered if one of his old acquaintances, Tyrana, had tried it before. He takes another sip before speaking further. We will have to wait and see how relations between the Republic and Empire go, Senator. There are plenty among both of our ranks that would not even think of holding hands with the other nor willing to even consider more cordial relations. Such hardliners will make things difficult, very difficult.Nicademus calmly turns to the side, gesturing to the two Imperial knights present with him. The Imperial had nearly forgotten to introduce those who came with him. His gaze turns to Koronov for a moment.Senator, I forgot to introduce to you those with me. On your right is a recent recruit to the Imperial Knights, Anya Syen. To the left of her is Imperial Knight's veteran, Darren. They were hand chosen by myself to serve as my escort during the charity event.

Handle first.Darn, I was wrong. When I saw the handle I thought it was another hold out blaster. He flips it, now holding it on the back part of the blade in front of Khar, to take.Either of those the weapon you are looking for. Cass asks as he waits for the Vor to take them. In no way is Cass holding them in a way threatening to anything other than the Vor's ego. As Cass started to harass a bothan guest, the two "Cupboards" speed up.
Khar only stood, now closing his arms in front of him (about head height of Cass) crossing them. The thin robed shape of the supposed sith lord just stood, barely glancing at the youngling before him as he made a fool out of himself.
The two security guards intervined now, coming up at the man from behind and aiming to grab both of his arms, one hulking security guard on each arm.
Seleevan watched unimpressed, waiting for the fool to resist. He knew that if he himself started a fight, he would be blamed, no matter what. But if he only intervines when the security personell is in trouble, he will seem more like someone whom came to the rescue of some dudes that were only doing their jobs.

=Harold= Senator Alfrick Stay'lod of Bothawui This was one of the few events Alfrick was ever actually interested in. He liked charity, despite what everyone thought, he just hated using government funds for it. PLus he was expected to go to these types of events. He was wearing a formal red tunic. He wandered around the party.

Anya took a step forward and gave a bow to Koronov. She was surprised he was introducing them. All she had planned was to guard the Emperor, not mingle with the guests.
"It is a pleasure, Senator."

He saw Crom'nen. Slime of a man, but trustworthy. You could always trust that he would do what was in his best interest. Alfrick could and did respect that.He mad his way over to where the other senator was.
Hello my friend. Alfrick spoke in has deep and gravelly voice. It is good to see the number here for this cause.

Orik arrived alone to the... what had the Seer called it? The 'ball'. He had left the Crusader hovering over one of the industrial districts of this god-forsaken planet, not wanting to taint his magnificent warship with the lifeless technology of heathens. He had left his amphistaff, again at the request of Seer Tokin, so as not to frighten the guests. However, given the fact that he was a Yuuzhan Vong warrior and his face was tinted deathly-grey, he doubt it would make much difference.
What he did not leave behind, however, was his crab armour. That was something which was not negotiable. Towering and brooding, Orik stopped at the alien announcing the arrival of dignitaries. Seemingly unfazed, he asked something in the local language. The tizowyrm in Orik's ear wriggled as it grasped the words and allowed the warrior to understand the being. He was asking his name. Orik normally expected reverence from beings who could not best him in battle, but then he remembered that the beings of this galaxy were socially degenerate. He resisted the urge to attack, and offered his name.
=Herald= Orik Kanor, Warrior of the Yuuzhan Vong.
Orik entered the function, his senses momentarily overwhelmed by the amount of people and lifeless technology. He realised he was snarling, and made an effort stem his prejudice. He cast his sunken eyes around the area, not recognising a single alien. He wondered if any were important.
