The press entrance was on level 550, a little under halfway up the imposing monolith that was 500 Republica. Such history here. 'Charlie' was a little in awe, truth be told. She had been to the Core once before, and while she had seen her share of beauty and wondrous architecture, nothing had prepared her for the sheer breathtaking size of the tower before her. She paid the taxi driver, and flashed her Hapan press pass to the security droid. All was in order, and she made her way through the scanners (which took an age in and of itself -- two of her cameras were confiscated as being small enough to warrant concern they were concealable.) Finally, she entered into the press area. There were beings from all over the 'verse, and the room was in disarray, as every such room across the galaxy was. It wasn't a particularly busy day -- regular reporters covering Senate business were broadcasting, and an interview with a press official from Ryloth was garnering some outside interest from the freelancers, but nothing like the swarms that came along with truly big news.
Making her way over to the Senate Press secretary, a female Zabrak, Charlie waits patiently for the three journalists and one photographer to process before it is her turn.

Yeah. Yeah. It typically takes three to five days to process a request. Step to the side for security scan.
'Charlie' steps to the indicated area, outlined on the floor, and stands still while the sec scanner passes over her, front and rear, side to side. Afterward, the Zabrak hands her a second, temporary press tag with different clearances.

Charlie spends a few hours mingling, introducing herself to some of the local reporters and getting dirt on the goings-on, both at a level that legitimate news agencies would involve themselves, and at a more local rag level. Satisfied, and knowing there is nothing she can do to speed the process, Charlie leaves to do a little sight-seeing around the Senate before calling it a day and heading back to the hotel...

Di woke sitting up with a start sweat pouring down his face. Eyes closing as both hands wiped his face. He glanced at the watch on the side table. Late. Jumping from bed he could smell the coffee and into the shower he went. Ten minutes later he was out the door, dropped the towel, dressed and grabbed a coffee then out the door he went.
-Di Fastski-
“My guns….”
Struggling with the lock it finally turned and he fell in the door, rolled and was on his feet. Dropping his suit jacket he had the holster on in seconds. Putting his jacket on next he walked to the door. Stopped. Turning he looked at the mirror
-Di Fastski-
“Shit!”
Comb out he ran it through his hair, took another look extended both arms declared
-Di Fastski-
“Beautiful!”
Sliding his comb back into his pocket, walked out locked the door and was gone. He barged into the turbolift. The ride was fast, any quicker and I’d have a nosebleed. The door opened and out he went

Waking Di mumbles disoriented -Di- "What the....." Realization of where he is and why gradually comes into focus. A wide grin crosses his face . Stepping from the ship he flagged two stocky men employees of 500 republica -Di- "Wannan make a couple credits easy?" Realizing how that sounded he fast expanded "Unloading the Wayfarer I mean." Relaxed looks replaced suspicion -Stacked Citizen 1- "Sure thing, we'll help." All three began unloading. Stacked Citizen 2 ran into the building and brought back a trolley. Then another. They were one, box by box, trolley after trolley.By the end of the move he had offers for business. I really need get in touch with my people Di thought

Hearing the words come at him Di spoke -Di- <<Red… out of all of us you’re the success story.>> The voice rose at his end now Di’s brows dropped -Di- <<You'd better wake up and appreciate what you have!>> -Di- <<Red you pansy, you have it made in the shade. Think of where we were. That was a nightmare. Well this ain’t much better. Just get down here. Outlander>> He hung up. Red was a connection with the Blue collar pencil pushers but he was a friend too. He wondered how a man could the man fall apart like this. And why he cared

Screeching to a halt at 500 Republica Di stormed from the vessel, dragging Red's sorry carcass and his belongings with him out of the Wayfarer. Then he dragged Red along like a screaming kid being torn from a mall to be put on time out by an angry mother, Straight into the building they went stopping at Di's pad. All settled nicely, meaning tossed roughly to the floor, both men sat down. Di made them a coffee. Cigarettes were lit -Di- “Now we can chat freely.”

Di looked at Red and responded -Di- “You tossed it all eh? Have anything worth anything sentimental and all of your money in cold hard cash?” He laughed -Di- “That my friend is money.” Looking Red hard in the eye -Di- “I sure hope that you still have friends where you left working.” Gesturing to the boxes -Di- “That. That is all Death sticks.” He watched Red’s eyes and laughed

Red stared at Di for what must have seemed like a few hours. And after that all he could muster was -Red- "All of it?"

Di laughed at the expression on Red's face. It was priceless. Down and out bored middle-management stiff throws everything away and gets set to ride a skate-board off a cliff trips straight into being a drug dealer. "Life is stranger then fiction" some wise individual once said. If this wasn't living proof of that axiom nothing was -Di- "Well we owe a cut to a big-shot, but past that, yes, it's all ours." Ours. The term didn't bother him in the least Finger lifting up -Di- "We just can't have you puffing away our profit." Shaking his head, the surreal quality of all this still tossing him a bit - more than a bit Di's mind just kept turning

Red lay somewhere between dream and reality. Di was now... his mother? Shaking a Death stick at him preaching about doing something with his life. His Di in drag mother was a bit much, even in a hypnagogic state of consciousness. He woke with a start. WTF!?! Sitting up he rolled from the couch and came up in a squat. This ain't my place. His mind ran fluidly. Packed everything. Drained my accounts - did I? Mental note: check that out... like yesterday. Where was I? Right! Told the boss to shove his job and quit. Di picked me up. His place; his couch. Ok, cause I ain't got a couch. He relaxed a touch and laid back on the couch. Di's couch. Did I grab a piece? Looking at had he saw the pistol. Yupp. He drifted... not off but closed the eyes. The mind wandered. Red remembered the first time when the pair was invited into a major’s office for a discussion. He had believed it to be disciplinary but could not figure out why; they kept anything and everything ‘extracurricular’ quiet. Or so he thought. The man probably could have told then what colour of underwear that he had on that day. No matter; the meeting had nothing to do with disciplinary action. A certain colonel was believed to be selling secrets, so they were told. And they wanted it dealt with. Decisively. Terminate with extreme prejudice. Gotta love that term. He always wondered if people who fumigate your apartment to terminate the roaches do so with extreme prejudice. Lost my thought.... Black ops. Chilling. Red had thought it to be the type of BS you saw in movies. It was then that the pair became involved as a team in the Galactic Alliance Intelligence Service…. His mind drifted away from that and back to the here and now. Cash? That is my net worth. Don't that sound nice? Net worth. Ya I got it.... 17,526.7.57 in liquid assets are stuffed in a bag. Nothing to shake a stick at. And nothing given how much of his life had been sucked up by a heartless system, no matter how you sliced it. Red drifted off again. Red heard the noise. Di? If it ain’t Di they are gonna Die. It was Di. Relax. Red watched the man walk over to him

The man did not convulse. Gurgle. No life changing supernatural feeling as a presence passing from this Our World into the Other. Nothing. & that was no belittling of the man. He was a piece of work and had it coming but he was living and breathing just like we were. Now he was not. That was it. And that was about as terrifying as it gets. Di shook the whole business from his head. He stood put pants on and walked out into the living room. There was Red hugging a gun like it was a baby. He was awake. Di walked over sitting on a chair to the left of the couch. All was quiet for some time. Di broke the silence -Di- “How much money you got?”

Red answered fast and freely; if Di was offing him for his life savings it wouldn’t mean much to me dead – would it? I’ll grease the SOB before he greases me but…. But don’t jump. Be careful; be ready -Red- “I got 17,526.7.57. Why?” He waited, hands grasping the gun

Di felt everything Red was thinking. Red wasn’t selling his feelings; he looked calm, cool and collected but Di knew the man. Knew what he could do. He knew because he was the same kind of animal. Same training. Very similar experiences. Very -Di- “Good, good.” A smile grew on his hard face "We are turning all this BS over. And... and we are making ourselves." Jumping to qualify that -Di- "We ain't pulling some nonsense heroic loud 'look at me crap. But we are - how's that sanctimonious anti-drugs line run? Ya. We are taking back the streets.

Red smiled. It was on. He vocalised that -Red- “Alright… we’re on. What I don’t want; what we don’t need is some deering do silly we are the champions idiocy turning this into a big production.”
He smiled -Red- “This is a big production. We just don’t need unnecessary public attention.”

Post by Ciarán Dubh & Laoch Bán Dubh on Jul 31, 2018 18:08:44 GMT -8
The group walked into 500 Republica. Laoch and Ciarán took the lead walking confidently towards the reception desk. Gráinne walked behind them, with Fiach Dubh sitting on her left shoulder, Maureen at her left and Boland the right. Briget trailed behind the group. Ryben Daggoth had served as the concierge at 500 Republica for decades and during his service had met with a sorted cast of characters. He had made some unique contacts during his time here and prided himself at understanding people. The group approaching was a bit rough under the collar but nothing he hadn’t dealt with before. The two men at the front were hoodlums to be sure and judging from the telltale bulges under the shoulder they were packing. They stood looming over his desk glaring down. One of the pair, a black man with a moustache spoke -Ciarán- “Good day sir. I am Kieran Dove.” Gesturing to the other, a pale white man with long black hair tied back in tail -Ciarán- “This is Laoch Van Duffy.” The concierge had met many people from all over the wide uni and all walks of life in his time and heard numerous names. And if this fellow was Kieran Dove then he was the famed Yoda. But Ryben kept a poker face, taking the ID handed to him, once overed it then passed it back to ‘Kieran’ looking the man straight in the eyes -Ryben- “Thank you Mr Dove.” Strange Ryben thought; he didn’t notice a hint of that slight confusion he generally caught in the eye of a person when addressed by an alias they were using. Maybe he was wrong. Something was off and he put it to the back of his mind just in case Ryben- “How might I be of service?” Ciarán caught that the man was onto his ruse but he also could feel that he really didn’t care so long as your business did not conflict with his own either. Ryben’s attention had been taken by the set of legs between and behind the two men and he really wanted to see the rest of whom they were attached. Ciarán caught that too but stepped on the instant reaction to tear the man’s throat out; wasn’t like Laoch and himself weren’t talking the same. Ciarán turned -Ciarán- “Grace?” Working slowly up the frame Ryben saw the little girl at her left and smiled. Cute kid. Then he saw the bruiser to her right. Big man. Chin down and eyes looking straight at him. He knew how to fight Ryben processed in microseconds. Nothing big; just an observation. The bird on the woman's shoulder was a bit odd but didn't shock Rtben either. Then as his eyes fell on the woman’s face his clock almost stopped beating and he recoiled, spitting coffee all over the desk. Damn she had been pummelled by someone or thing; half of her face was gone. Quickly he regained his composure

The woman was getting used to the pseudo-name and she responded coolly -Gráinne- “We have business with….” Now chill as she may well have been playing it she didn’t have a clue who they had business with. Luckily for her the bird sitting on her shoulder was more than unnatural -Fiach Dubh- “Di Fastki. Where?” The bird talking didn’t stun Ryben. The drug dealer. Figured. Maybe they’d get rid of him. Ryben said nothing but he wrote a number on a piece of paper then slid it across the desk. The woman stepped forward and took it with a smile -Gráinne- If Ryben didn’t understand who was running the show by now he most certainly was about to learn -Gráinne- “Boland. You stay here with Maureen and Briget. We won’t be long." With that she gestured to the two men and they led her along. Ryben watched this bizarre cross between The Swiss Family Robinson and The Corleone mob family like an anthropologist observing a group of great apes The three left the rest behind them

Ciarán and Laoch caught up with Gráinne. Both knowing exactly where they were going they cut ahead leading the way. They stopped at a door. Ciarán stepping to the right drawing a pistol, as Laoch drew his and stepped to the left of the door. Ciarán looked up to Gráinne and widened his eye then went back to watching the door. Gun in right hand: left hand on right wrist

Gráinne looked at both men. They had done this before - a lot. She wasn't shocked but it was odd to watch. Probably always will be she thought. For but a fleeting second just turning and running crossed her mind but she shook that off. Stepping forward she knocked. Once. Twice. Thrice. Then brushing hair out of face she stood waiting. The Raven knew what lie on the other side of the entrance. And he wanted them to try and move on them Back at the reception area the others waited. Maureen asked -Maureen- "Are they capping some stiff?" Boland looked at her stunned and almost asked where and from whom exactly she learned that talk. Then he felt like shooting a TV. But deep inside he knew. She just knew things. Was eerie really Ryben hearing the question out of the sweet little girl's mouth wondered how people like this weren't arrested and summarily executed for teaching children like this
