If one person calls you a Hutt, ignore them. If two people call you a Hutt, start to wonder. If three people call you a Hutt, buy a drool bucket and start stockpiling spice.
The perception that the Jedi have been insular and maybe a bit xenophobic has, in my experience, been earned. I've had exactly one Jedi character get off the ground, and that was at Corellia. And he fell flat after I lost interest, waiting for posts. You've got a fairly wide cross section of the site here, and the only ones that are bothering to say that this is not the case seem to be Jedi. This is generally a bad sign.
Good on you Ael. This needed to be addressed by someone that gives a shit.
Lita, instead of trying to refute everything she says, you might ought to listen.

Eralam, I am listening. By discussing this with both sides. Not calling people out publicly.
Edit: Besides, I thought this was a discussion. Apparently if I'm not agreeing with everything you think is right, I'm automatically wrong on everything, eh?

Er, you called this a bash thread as opposed to discussing it in a civilized manner.
That's not exactly constructive.
Banned.

If you feel that way then try to direct it towards something constructive. Don't hijack it and turn this into a pissing match. Im sure both Jedi and ALL groups like this can and will offer reasons and opinions. Just as those of us who have at one point or another have felt it.
The Jefi are just the most prominent and biggest case of this. Not all Jedi are like this, not all planets they write on are. Yavin was an example because it is partially true.

This is an opinion thread and, unfortunately, the few have fallen to the calling of defense for the many. It's the fact of the matter that this original thread was brought to a head for the purpose of constructive change, supported by the claims of many, now considered 'bashing.' We merely act as witness testimony that it is not the opinions of a meager few that the insulation of the Jedi order brings about it's own isolation, which in turn changes the perception of the group from the majority of the jvs fan base.
There is a way to receive this message without being defensive and that's to admit, that perhaps, the current mentality is wrong. However, calling it nonconstructive and pointless bashing is, in fact, being defensive.

I invited and encouraged private discussion, as well as offered what limited information I have on the matter that I know is in the works and was of Mer's strongest concerns. I've also requested someone to cite examples of what problems have been caused by this group, particularly in regards to "not feeling welcome." If that's not considered constructive then I don't know what is.
Mer's post was full of opinion, yes, but it was also very personal, calling out specific players that she failed to talk to first. But it was her choice to open it to public forum and that's just a difference in the way the two of us choose to operate.
However, every post after that has been more along the lines of "yeah I never felt welcomed by the Jedi." You're going to tell me that is constructive? They did the same thing to the Sith Empire, before the crash of 1.5. Or did everyone forget that mob fest day after day, targeting Sinistra and Rev and anyone who was on the Dark Council?
Well I didn't forget. I guess it's hard to resist repeating history.
But it's all for naught. I am one voice among a screaming horde.

You clearly don't know what is. You're being defensive and calling names. Both of these fall somewhere outside the realm of constructive. For further reference: This is a screaming horde.Everyone else was having a discussion. At any rate, I'm done here. This thread has been hijacked by trolling enough for one day.

Well I am not amoung the Kedi am I? I can't really defend them when I am not one of them. To be fair I was rightfully pissed at the SE. I had the knowledge they were there and got into the planet secretly. Rped that shit out. Then for no reason the decided to attack my NPC and Draguses NPC. Killed us both. I don't blame Sin, or Rev in fact I respect and like both of them.
This however is not about them but the Jedi (this time). It is true though. Although this is now 2.0 people still hold onto one of the biggest things of 1.0. People randomly attacking and trying to capture your planet. It draws them inwards, makes them not want to interact with others. It may not even be consciously done.
Obviously if people are feeling alienated there is a problem, now we don't know if this was brought in privately. Judging by the tone of the first post it very well could have been done in private first. It fell on deaf ears.
For instance one thing brought up was posting order. For smaller groups it's ideal, but when your group gets to large it's impossible to keep up. You could end up waiting for months while someone forgot or doesn't have time. People get bored and leave.
So if you forget everything else let's talk posting orders then.

Can we all just calm down and think about this? And for the record, I never said I didn't feel welcomed, but I addressed the fact that I had a major event for my character and another writer happen infront at least three Jedi that failed to witness something in front of their very eyes. I tried to get trained by a Jedi on a planet I can't recall but everything halted without explanation or reason.
Look, we all have times where we don't want to post with an unfamiliar face, or fear that inviting another will bring chaos within your group..... hell sometimes you don't want to post with someone because you despise a minor part of them or their character.
On this site, or any roleplaying site, there should be a level of respect and understanding of each other. I dont care if another group has the same issues, I dont care if you arent a part of this or have a different perspective. You need to respect the fact that this is being discussex, because it is seen as a problem by one writer who decided to be brave enough to voice their opinion. And when one person speaks aloud, others follow, whether good or bad. This is not a bash thread. This is not a 'lets hate the Jedi' thread. This is to discuss a problem that many have observed and witnessed. Whether you are with it or against it, this has obviously become an important topic that needs to be discussed. It is our duty as writers on this site to make every new person welcome. It has become apparant that some or most of the Jedi members are against inviting others, and this is a problem. If we are wrong then prove us wrong. Otherwise sit back and shut the kriff up. I may be naive and a teenager, but I know when someone is wrong, and when someone is right.
(p.s) I began writing this after Lita's latest comment.

I don't abide by posting orders. I disregard posting orders. By experience, so does the group I write with, which consists of Dav, Corr, Jago, Frisk, Nick, Ronan, and all of their alts. I didn't address this complaint because it's a loaded accusation. How do I address a problem that I'm not able to find exists?
As for if this was brought in privately, if it was, no one in the aforementioned group was brought into that discussion, as all of us are talking about it now and confirmed no one was approached.

*shakes head* It's too late. I'm being told at this very moment by the Yavin group to leave this thread alone. I have a thousand and one things to say, and more ways to offer to help find solutions, but how can I find solutions when you're more eager to tell me how wrong I am and what your impressions are than giving specific examples of how the Yavin group has made problems for you?
I really wanted to help. I can't help you.

Actually Lita, I have talked with the people in question at various times over the years. Several abortive attempts have been planned, but they were just that: abortive. Nothing changed. The purpose of this post and thread is to call for constructive change. I have done my best to give credit where it is due and not be completely negative about any one thing. I have always tried to be fair and understanding. As someone here said earlier, this is the result of built-up problems that have been ignored. Was this my first choice? No. I think the fact that I have waited six years to post should tell anyone reading this that this was not an easy thing to do. It was not a spur of the moment decision, nor was it posted in the heat of the moment.

I have to say that I have seen some of this as well; This is not to say, however, that I think anyone is a bad writer by any means. When I wrote Alexos Mantera on Yavin back on 1.5 the characters I interacted with were wonderfully interesting, their dynamics/interactions compelling, and the overall plot great; I genuinely enjoyed the character and those who I interacted with. However, I did also see instances of slow, stagnated RP that took a lot of the fun out of the characters or plot, such as when a plot which was supposed to be a quick training run in flight sims stalled out for several months and was never finished despite the fact that I suspect that ranks within the squadron were to be awarded based on the results. This made advancing and growing Alexos' character difficult, which in turn was frustrating.
Please understand Lita that we are by no means trying to personally attack any of the Yavin writers or to imply that they are inferior writers or not welcomed; we are merely attempting to provide constructive criticism in order to try and help improve the site as a whole. I've written with Dav, Zuli, Jago, and several others of the Yavin Praxeum, and would love to write with them more, but at the same time I cannot ignore the pitfalls which I have encountered in the past. In my belief, part of what Ael and others who have expressed similar thoughts are trying to do is to help make the Jedi more accessible RP-wise to those who are not already a part of that RP circle. With the reduced population on 2.0, the Jedi have come to be heavily represented, either in fact or in appearance, by the Yavin Praxeum. I think that what Ael was trying to suggest is to de/re-centralize the overall Jedi Order so that it is not difficult to write with Jedi without having to write with any single subgroup of the order specifically (Whether that subgroup is the Yavin Praxeum, Corellia, Felucia, or any other.). That way, for example, Yavin can focus on its tight-knit writing group, excellent continuing storylines, and compelling character development without inadvertently limiting the RP options for those who might want to RP with Jedi but not within Yavin's more closed storyline.
Perhaps one thing which might help, and let me be clear that I am only brainstorming and am in no way saying that this is the absolutely correct decision, would be to create a centralized location for the Order to operate within as a whole. We have various academies and praxeums across the galaxy, on Yavin, Corellia, Carida, Felucia, and Ossus for example, and while it is established in site canon (As far as I can tell) that they are a part of a single order it never feels like that. Perhaps there could exist a location, say on Coruscant just to pick a world, that could serve as a central location for the order as a whole. There, a "High Council" could convene, by hologram transmission if necessary/more convenient, and speak for the order as a whole, thus creating a central location for new or aspiring Jedi/Jedi writers to go to interact with the overall order. From there they could then get a taste of what the various sub-academies/praxeums have to offer and then write at the one which they feel is right for them, or even remain at the central temple on Coruscant if they so wish. Such a network of interactivity would make the Jedi Order feel much more cohesive, and would also make interaction between groups easier if that is what writers desire. I guarantee, for example, that word would spread through the order pretty quickly if the High Council representative from say...Carida suddenly lost connection in the middle of a meeting and could not be recontacted. This would also make it much easier for those who are not Jedi to interact with the Order. The Galactic Alliance/Republic/ect could send representatives to the temple if they need to speak to the Jedi, or a refuge fleeing a Mando'ade or Sith attack on an isolated world could approach the High Council seeking aid or assistance in dealing with the threat. Again, this is all just brainstorming, but I do feel as if centralizing the Order at a location which isn't one of the sub-groups/academies would help to make the Jedi as a whole more easily accessible.

A word about bringing these concerns privately.
We have. A lot.
I have spoken to Jago about it for years. To Zuli about it. Ksandra. How many do I have to tell?
Posting dies. People disappear. People ignore newcomers.
I had a character in the Yavin Praxeum for a month and she bumped into everyone. Spoke to everyone, no one acknowledged her. Not one response in return. I have sent my latest Jedi. She is ignored and talked over because people want to RP with her master. Or they have to do something and I can't go. So I get abandoned. Lots of us WANT to be Jedi. We want to be included and write with new people.
The purpose of posting this publicly is to let the Jedi as a whole know that we as a whole feel a need for open dialogue among many.
Not a private discussion that the rest of us are left out of. We're the ones with stubbed toes and hurt feelings. How does your private discussion about revamping the order help us who have been snubbed to know that our opinions are being considered?
There is a reason I plan everything publicly for Dark Tide and the Sith. We have no secrets. Everyone knows if something is not working so that people who might want to get involved can do so.
I am not attacking the writers at Yavin. In fact, I adore writing with Jago. I liked writing with Zuli.
I am asking, why can't we be cool kids too? To date, we all feel like big old losers. I have perpetually felt as though I am not good enough for the Jedi, maybe that's why I have been overlooked. Maybe I'm wrong, but when I get silence in return, it's hard not to indulge my doubts and fears.

On the phone, you'll excuse the brevity following.
haven't read this thread in and out. But as part of the problem, I don't mind being a part of the solution.
call a vote, clean house.
but the problems as I see it are few and fundamental. Aside from IRL issues, which we all have, sooo many SLs/RPs fall on a few, too much relies on so little.
looking at myself. I am a pivotal writer in 8 storylines and and absolutely crucial to the leadership of the Jedi Council and the Republic Chancellor, and now as a leading Mando on one of the fronts for the war.
I am impossibly bogged down.
and also, procedures and details, are sinking the ships. For better or for worse. It used to be the policy of 48 hour wait time then you get bulldozed (unless you left notice). Bring that back.
alright, i will see you guys in another 5 years when i bother to post. ;-)

Stefan, Sin, Will, thank you guys so much. That is exactly what I'm referring to. I attempted to make it clear that while individual rps with specific Jedi writers are quite capable of being epic, more often things just fall flat. The purpose here was to be constructive. And as I was afraid, things are being pulled out of context and the forest is being overlooked for the trees.

Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down before they start throwing out accusations of "bashing" or "calling out" or anything like that. Everyone take a chill pill and let's keep this civil.
The point is, it seems the Jedi aren't welcoming and instead of pointing fingers and bitching about it, we should constructively discuss ideas on how to correct this issue.
