Specifically made; to be in.
Brentaal VI... Well on the old site it was listed as a Mando-world exclusively. It hadn't been "claimed" IC here, until I posted; though the planet directory is from the old site. Since Brentaal is a strategic world (trade, Hyperlanes, big business), I'm trying to bring it into the Republic fold, BUT that doesn't mean that all the Houses of Brentaal will do exactly what the Republic edicts. They're business men, and are definitely not going to stop trading to whomever they choose; Though they may hide behind the "might" of the Republic.

Suggestion:
How's about we start snapping up unused planets in this, on the condition that anyone who takes one will guarantee that it will be used?

That could be useful. If I get time on the morrow, I'll come up with a list of planets abandoned longer than three months. I'm not sure if they've changed the rules since, but when I took Dressel, the rule was that any planet abandoned for longer than three months could be taken without contest from the original holder. I personally would like to get ahold of another planet on a hyperspace lane to set up another market, but that's just me.

I believe that Jud was working on a galactic directory but I don't think he has completely updated it as I sent him the DT worlds and they aren't on the list.
Let's get an accurate list of where people are first.
There are surely people who don't pay attention to things like this who might be on a planet minding their own business and sudden wake up to find they have been co-op'ed against their will.
Snapping up planets now is not a good idea. Not only that, but for something to be included in the Empire, doesn't mean we have to "keep" it for planetary control. I always hated that bullshit and I would rather not fall back to something like that. Having to maintain an RP presence means people are strewn about, RPing by themselves and then they lose interest and factions die. It sucks the life out of RP.
I would rather see them listed as Emp, Rep, Man or ind on the Galactic Directory and pick a place to RP based on that. As long as they are listed there, I see no need to scoop them up and "control" them.

I must concur with Sin; furthermore, once we do figure out who is currently controlling/RPing heavily on the various planets I feel that the division of the unclaimed worlds should be handled in something resembling a controlled, ordered manner. I definitely feel that just declaring a free for all on claiming the unclaimed worlds would be a bad idea. And I certainly agree with Eralam; those who acquire an unclaimed planet via this concept once we do start looking at dividing up the unused worlds should definitely be expected to actually use/RP on said world to avoid the glut of claimed but unused planets that we saw at one point back on 1.5.

The point is to only take places you can use, and if the last post was by the Whill that made it, then no one can complain. If it hadn't been used in months and the last person to use it hasn't logged in, they're not likely going to complain. You know, because they're fucking gone. Funny how that works.
I'm trying to get unused space used, not start anything unsavory. That's the point of coming up with a list and working as a group. These planets are just sitting there, and will continue to do so until something happens. The smart thing to do would be to get rid of them altogether, but that notion seems to put a bug up folks' collective ass.

I don't see why they need to be controlled at all. Sometimes I see a planet not getting any use and it becomes a good place to stage a battle or a small storyline. I don't like the idea that everything has to have an RP presence. It really doesn't matter if there are unused boards. This idea is big enough that those "unused" planets can be where there are pirate raids, Imper/Reb skirmishes, Mandos causing trouble and smugglers using them as waypoints.

ok, this idea just popped into my mind.
Hopefully soon (glares at Republic) Seleevan will be able to offer Vortex to the Republic. This of course wont be an instantinious thing, giving us some nice political RP. At the same time, Sel sent a Diplomatic envoy to Sinistra and the DT, where the Sith friendly party on Vortex offers its support for help to keep controll over the populace.
This would of course make some political collisions between the two large factions. Not to mention the anti-Sith(anti-khar) movement I just sowed on juvex witch might or might not be a part of Sels... what was the word? "EndGame".

Mel, that would be great, if that was something that happened.
They don't necessarily have to be directly controlled by any one person, but there's no reason you can't bring them under a faction's aegis. If we get a massive influx of new RP (try not to laugh, it could happen) then we can easily enough integrate the newcomers.

It goes without saying that the worlds in the Deep Core which have been Imperial for like 4 years now will be backing this idea. We may be only 4 right now but people are known to come back.
If I may, planets do not need to be claimed but perhaps something along the lines of labelling them. Planet X is Imperial. Planet Y is Republic. No on RPs there currently and maybe no one will for a further 9 months, but it wouldn't hurt to say which is which. That way there is a place to start on. He'll they can even be in the unaffiliated zones or Hutt space.

I can certainly agree with that idea. At the very least it helps to create the feel that this overarching concept is going for, and just because a planet is, for example, "Imperial Controlled" doesn't mean that it's a bristling fortress of military might. I recall multiple instances in the books where you had a planet with a noticeably small Imperial garrison, in some cases with only maybe a single squadron of TIEs and some Stormtroopers. The Imperials could still "control" a less major planet with relative ease as long as the natives don't get too restless without knowing and interfering with everything that goes on there and having a small army of soldiers/hardware.

It's semantic argument where claimed and labeled should be synonymous but this is JvS and I know better.
I don't mind labeling things on the Galactic Directory. I don't think planets need to be controlled or claimed. I disagree that we need to do anything to start that right now.
The Empire can start with what DT holds and slowly grow from there. Through RP. And as we grow, we label more and more places. If someone wants to throw in with our lot, all the better. If we have a diplomatic plot unfold on a previously unused planet that helps to bring that planet under Empire control, I am ok with that. I don't think everything has to be divvied up and settled now. And if it is not labeled Emp or Repub from the get go, it's independent until something chnages for it IC.
Why not let the IC actions determine how the sides turn out?

I'll still be making that list, and if someone wants to claim a planet as their own, it would be unwise to give them shit for it. Once people have what they want, you can work out the others on your own.

I'm not going to give anyone shit for it, I'm just trying to say that this idea doesn't require us to go planet grabbing to work. That kind of attitude turns people off to collaboration.

You're basing this assessment on what? This isn't 1.0 anymore. The attitudes that drive that mindset are gone. By hanging onto the fear of them, you're going to do far more to stifle RP and collaboration than they ever did.

I disagree with you, but I think this is a conversation that is best had between you and I in another place and time. I intend to start the Empire small and have it grow gradually as we lure planets away from the Rep. and being independent. Whether it is someone who controls something who consciously makes an effort to side one way or another or an unclaimed world that we label as Emp or Rep just for the sake of a SL we are writing, the overall concept still works.
We are splitting hairs and doing nothing for garnering support from others so let's refocus on that for the moment. Realistically, this is something that is going to take a long time to implement as we have to settle up the Mando War and maneuver the political landscape for this, so any action about drawing lines in the sand now seems premature.
