The princess follows and hears it all. She had not known the Vice Chancellor, so she could only have a generic sympathy. Inside she couldn't help but see this as the opportunity. This information would be enough to force the vote for her election. There would be no debate. No opposition, there would be no time for the few that wanted to stand against her to mobilize one. Her election would go off without a hitch. Once that happened, justice and order would return to the Republic. This was a sad situation, but one she would make something from. Crom'nen was a little harder for her to look past. She had known him, and despite his thorns, she actually respected him. He was always looking for a way to better his position, that she could understand and even relate too. He just took things to far and overplayed his hand too much, and did things the wrong way. He was corrupt, and would have been someone she would have eventually had to deal with. His vanishing was one less thing. Everything was coming up to her advantage. He isn't running for Chancellor. Her eyes like steel. I am. This is what the corruption and failures of the Republic has produced. I am calling for an emergency election. This ends now. It is time someone dealt with all of this. If this changes your mind as to supporting me and being on my ticket, I understand. I will run without a Vice, but I cannot stand by while this is happening... She was never looking at anyone while she spoke, but her gaze was steely and could be seen as addressing the entire room.

Koronov held up his hand for silence, as the slowly growing number of Senators, staffers, and military officers present all reacted in unison, shocked at the Alderaanian's words. They had each independently concluded, by this time, that Dmitri should not run, but none of them had had a chance to voice it to the Corellian - aside from Senator Naberrie's very public, emotional plea seconds ago.
"Please, hold your questions. There will be plenty of time for everything to be explained later." He looked at Senator Hadrig first, for the Drall was his oldest friend on Coruscant. The pacifist had been stretched far beyond his usual scruples, in efforts to prevent the abandonment of Rim worlds to defenseless destruction. His gaze swept to a still-trembling Senator Naberrie. He knew from her pale, shocked face that she could already feel the weigh of an entire galaxy's scrutiny falling on her planet and her young shoulders. This struggle was taking a toll on each and every one of them. And there were others. Darma, and Cihlbar, and Crom'nen, and others, either dead or missing.
"There will be no opposition to the call for an election. All will embrace it, as a chance to better themselves. Our sole responsibility now is to retain control of that process, and the only way we can do that is by nominating a fresh new face, one that the galaxy will trust. And I have agreed that Standash Thul is an excellent pick for that position. She will make a great Chancellor. But she will need help from all of us, if she is to succeed, and that is why I have agreed to run as her running mate and Vice Chancellor. My presence will legitimize her candidacy."
He smiled faintly at Alyse. "I know many of you did not want me to run at all. This is my compromise." His now-twinkling eyes shifted to Aylee, his Twi'lek secretary. She was his political heir on Corellia, whether she realized it yet or not, and there was a good chance this process would change her life forever. "I will not go quietly into the shadows as so many others have done. I will fight, and if I fail, my failure will be public, so that all will know, I did my best to defend Corellia and the Republic."
He paused as the room slowly erupted into cheers, then lowered his voice. "Does that answer your question Princess?"

That does Senator, and it reinforces, again though unneeded, why I want you. We must be swift and decisive. In the face of threats and those that wish us to fear, we must stand firm and strong. I will not be intimidated. It is a good thing many of you are here. The motions that need to be made cannot come from Koronov or myself. One of you will have to make the motion to elect a new Chancellor with emergency powers to end this terror we are living under. Another will have to make the nomination. I do not know most of you as well as I would like, but I can assure you that I an the one for the job. I will end this hive of corruption that the Republic has become, that allowed its leaders to be removed by force. I can assure you that I have the votes to get elected. At this point I, we, just need the motions and the nominations. Her steely gaze falling on the senators and aids represented. Letting them look deep into her eyes. Her passion, and fire were unmissable. If they said no, she would still see her goal, it would just seem less clean, and more self serving. This way would be better for unity.

=Senator Naberrie="We have other allies besides the ones you see here." The radiant young woman from Naboo said, meeting Standash Thul's gaze with one equally strong and passionate. She was recovering from her shock at the assassination on her homeworld with the grace and charisma of a seasoned politician. "There are Senators who will make the necessary motions when the time comes. They wait only for Koronov's decision, and your own announcement of candidacy." =Senator Hadrig=The wise old Drall grunted gruffly. He did not extend trust as easily as some of his human counterparts. "If Dmitri is determined in this course of action." He glanced sideways at the younger man. "Then I will support you, but you have much you must prove to me and to the galaxy during this campaign." =Secretary Aylee'saresh="I will start making the necessary preparations." She laid a hand on Dmitri's shoulder. "The press is clamoring for a statement from Senator Koronov. Let's give them one." Dmitri smiled as the gathered Senators, staffers, and visitors snapped into action. At least there was a small shred of the Republic that still functioned. They were a building block, upon which a foundation could be laid. Alderaan, the Five Worlds, and Naboo. It was a start. He nodded to Standash. "I am sure you have many preparations to make, Future Chancellor Thul. Do not let me take up any more of your time." He paused, his smile fading to something almost like ... sympathy? Regret? Fear? Probably all three emotions. Certainly, he feared that her actions would endanger her. "And thank you for doing this."

Don't thank me yet Vice Chancellor Koronov, I have yet to do anything. She said this in a flirtatious challenge almost. And with that I will take my leave. She leaves the offices and heads home and toward her destiny.

=Secretary Aylee'saresh= After all of the others had left, including Koronov' own frields and staff, leaving just the Twi'lek secretary and her human employer, Aylee closed the main door of Corellia's Senatorial Offices once more, and looked at the weary Senator with something between sisterly concern, and childish bemusement. "Vice Chancellor" Was all she said. "Really?" Her tone wasn't exactly disapproval, just disbelief.
Dmitri gave an exasperated shrug. "It was the only move, Aylee." He said, as he closed the inner door to his private office. "The Republic needs me."

Returning to his office following the dissolution of the Republic, Dmitri Konorov worked quickly and almost entirely silently to pack up everything of personal or intelligence value within his private offices. He was joined in his efforts by Priscilla, the Selonian who had recently arrived on Coruscant to bring the Senator a new voice in his decision making, and to help Aylee manage the office and the constant flow of committee minutes and intelligence briefings about absolutely nothing. Much of the furnishings would be left behind, to Force knows what fate, but a few personal items and all of his books and reports were quickly boxed up.
When they were done, Dmitri made eye contact with the Selonian. "Thank you so much for all you have done for my campaigns, and for all of your advice over the years, Priscilla." He said. "I want you to know that today may have been a great defeat for the Republic, but it is not the end for Corellia." He smiled. "I do not know exactly what authority the Council will give me, but I will keep fighting for Corellia. Now, I need you to go home, and to tell anyone who will listen that Dmitri Koronov is still working to defend and protect the Corellian people."
As he spoke, the door to his office slid open, and two Corellian Defense Force lieutenants entered, motioning that the shuttle was ready.
=Priscilla= The long, lithe Selonian folded her arms, with a sly smile. "I think I can manage that. But, won't you be coming with us?"
Koronov shook his head. "I want to. But duty calls me elsewhere. I know of an alliance which the Republic long ago allowed to fail, and which is too powerful to be ignored any longer. I must be the first one to arrive, before some of those scoundrels in the Senate get any ideas about spreading their corruption." He laughed. It was so hard to sound casual after such a momentous day, but somehow he managed. "Go, make sure that my office supplies don't disappear in transit, and I will see you soon."
Priscilla nodded, and she and the CDF officers gathered the boxes up and left. Dmitri locked the door behind them, and for a moment, he was finally alone.

The Young Alderaanian woman waits outside the offices. She had been sent to the the former Vice Chancellor. Standash knew Koronov wouldn't see her herself. She hoped he would be willing to see her ade. Patiently the young woman waits.

Koronov's eyes shot to the locked door as he caught sight of the shadow outside. His brow narrowing, he stepped noiselessly to the door and peeked through the peephole, half-expecting to see an assassin on the other side. Instead, it was a young Alderaanian woman - one of Standash's aides. He exhaled, and started to turn away. But then he paused, remembering how even among the aides of a corrupt liar like Crom'nen, he had once found someone worthy of respect. He had nothing to say to Standash Thul, but was he going to let her treasonous actions change his own behavior toward those who approached him in good faith? No. He had to remain true to himself.
Turning back, he unlocked the door, and opened it a foot, planting his booted right foot firmly behind it, to prevent it being forced open.
"What do you want?" He asked in a weary voice. "I have nothing to say to Ms. Thul."

That is good because I am here on my own accord. Yes I am on her behalf, but she doesn't know I am here. May I come in? Her smile as present as her voice, and like always totally not descriptive.

Koronov's eyes scanned over his visitor quickly from head to toe, looking for any obvious signs of threat. Seeing nothing out of place, he sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Fine." He said, removing his foot from against the door, and opening it wide. The office suite was still fully furnished, but every personal or sentimental item was gone, as well as all of Koronov's books and papers. "Come in." He waved ruefully toward the interior. "There isn't much left. I wasn't expecting visitors, at least not friendly ones."
But he had only had a few minutes before his shuttle would be leaving, and he was tired of being diplomatic. If Annalise was here, then he might as well take advantage of the situation, and ask the same blunt questions he would have asked Thul, if he could. So he did. "Why did your boss abandon our fight and surrender to the Republic's enemies?"

Do you really think that was what she did? You have seen it. The republic had become its own greatest enemy. At least as an organized body. What did she say wrong in her speech? Where was the lie or stretching of the truth?

"I never so much as implied that she lied. Her assessment was not wrong. But the commitment she made to me, right here in this office, was that she would fight that corruption." He sighed, and pressed a hand against his weary forehead for a moment.
"I put my faith in her because she had the youthful energy to tear down all that was wrong with the Republic, and replace it with a new, pure institution -- the Republic as it should have been. Instead, she has consigned us to anarchy. She created a vacuum in which corruption will continue unopposed, just less visibly, and with many centers on many worlds, instead of being centralized on Coruscant. The criminals in the shadows of the Senate will not stop being criminals just because the Senate is dissolved. Instead, they will return their own worlds and plant new infections in the governments of a thousand star systems."
"Instead of bringing a strong vengeance down upon the galaxy's greatest center of corruption, using the powers of a central government, she has dispelled it like a child blowing on a puff-flower, and sent the seeds of corruption scattering into the wind. It will be ever so much harder to bring justice and judgment upon them now. Corellia and Alderaan may weather the storm and emerge stronger, but many weaker worlds will be swallowed alive." Koronov was getting agitated now. "I fall to see how that is anything other than a complete surrender. The corruption has been removed from Coruscant, yes, but only because it has been sent home, not because it has been defeated."
He paused, breathing hard, and surprised at himself. He hadn't been this upset earlier, because he hadn't realized the full implications until now.

The Woman gathers her breath and thoughts. Search your own experience and what you have seen. The greatest area of corruption was the Republic its self. Outside of you and your allies, do you know how Standash really got the votes? Or has your own idealism blinded you to what was right under your nose? They voted for her because they thought it would benefit them the most. They didn't care if doing so would make someone else weaker, she made them all think that she was going to make them, one on one her puppeteer. The Republic was beyond saving.
The difference between now and a year ago is small. In that time a senator started a war by himself and nearly plunged the entire galaxy to to extended chaos. And what became of him? You know the answer. A year ago the people, the citizens thought they needed a strong central government for them to live. The people thought they needed someone to rule them. Then the republic was leaderless and aimless. And what happened to the people? They lived, and they learned. They realized that they ruled themselves. Yes the forces of corruption will leave this metropolis and will seek to rule by the same forces and means they controlled here. But this time when they go home things are different. They do not return to people needed to be lead like sheep, but to people that know they are nexu. They can rule themselves. The corruption will try and it will be beaten by the people that do not want it.
There where two senators that her Highness was open with, and told her goals. You were one of them, care to venture a guess on the second?

The fire was still in Koronov's eyes, but his voice took on a tone of defeat. "I do not care why they voted for her. It did not matter. Once she won, she had everything she needed to counter their corruption." His fists clenched and unclenched. "I have not wanted to admit this to myself, but I allowed Miss Thul to run for Chancellor because I knew that there was only one hope left for the Republic: to bring in an outsider. She was not wrong about that. I knew it was a gamble, and I knew that if she failed, that would be the end of the Republic. But perhaps I chose the wrong outsider. I wanted someone ready to fight to the death to stop that outcome, not someone who would willingly concede it."
Hot, angry tears formed in his eyes. "I intended to go down fighting, and I thought she shared that vision with me. Whether the battle was winnable or not, we will never know now, but I can't help myself. I am a Corellian, it is in my blood. We don't quit in the face of adversity. We stand and fight for what we believe in, for as long as we have breath in our chests. It does not matter if we win, so long as we are true to our cause. And Miss Thul robbed me of that chance."
He paused for a long moment, breathing heavily, and looked away, fighting for control. When his gaze returned to Annelise, the fire was gone, replaced only with sadness and pity. His voice was calm now. "Forgive me, Annelise. We will have to agree to disagree on this, but it is not you with whom I am angry." He sighed. "As you were saying, Thul consulted with someone else? I don't have a guess who that would have been. The Senate was been changing too rapidly for that." Internally, he fought to put away his anger and his frustration. She was offering him real information, a potentially useful clue to an event Standash had never mentioned.

Cromna Fenn of Ryloth. She let the words hang in the silence, letting the man process reasons why. She had read enough on the interaction between the man before her and the Twi'lek senator. The politician's exploits and deceit was legendary. Shareing this information with Demitri would make Standash very upset. Not that it would paint her in a bad light, but the princess wanted to keep everything close. She did not share parts of her plans freely. Nor was she interested in totally changing the Corellian's mind about Standash. If that was her goal she would tell him about the Hapeans, say that Standash had no choice and was doing it to save lives. That would get him to see why Standash had done it. But that wasn't the reason. Even without the outside influence this had been Standash's plan.

Crom'nen? Something heavy settled into the hollow of the ex-Senator's gut. It was that feeling you get when you wonder if a series of coincidences were actually a massive conspiracy against you. But he tried to shake off the feeling. He had no proof, and it seemed very unlikely that even Crom'nen could have orchestrated this, just as it seemed utterly self-defeating. Crom'nen wanted centralized power, he just wanted it centered around himself. Undermining the Republic this deeply was contrary to his usual tactics.
"Oh really?" Was all he said aloud, his face showing only muted surprise. "Well, that's interesting. Do you have any idea where the Senator is now?" The question was innocent enough, but it was more than an idly query. Koronov had people out looking for the Twi'lek even as they spoke.

She began to speak with him and finally had to come to terms with what she had known for a long time, the Republic was beyond saving. The corruption that he represented was so embedded inside the inner-workings it couldn't be excised. So she told him of her plan to end it all. Taking away that witch gave him power, and he did the only thing he could. Run. As to your question, do I have any idea where he is, I have theories. Thoughts without evidence but make sense. Most obvious would be Ryloth, its his home where he feels most comfortable. The issue would be that his actions were to save himself not his people, Ryloth typically looks out for its self, but the people are seen as one. Would the people except him without a power backing to force them? The other would be Nar Shaddar or Tatooine. Corruption is not exactly forbidden there. But really it is all a guess. What I do know is this. Not an hour after his conversation with Standash he was on a ship of world. He knew his time in power was over. Standash tried to have him followed but he evaded them.

Koronov was silent for a long moment. This was not the response he had expected. He weighed in his mind whether it might be a lie, or perhaps Annelise was mistaken, or naive. But there was an element of plausibility to her story. The Corellian smiled, although it was forced. "Well, that's interesting." He replied. "If he is truly gone, then that is probably for the best, although I am never eager to throw away an ally, however flawed they may be. Crom'nen had a certain purpose and value in the Republic." He sighed. "I would have rather kept him close, so that we could rein in his corruption, or brought him to justice for his crimes, rather than letting him walk away to repeat his corruption elsewhere, but so be it."
There was a knock at the door, and it opened to reveal a Selonian in a CDF Captain's uniform.
=Capt. Ruluwoor= "Senator, it's time to leave." The Selonian said in an urgent tone. "The security situation is deteriorating." Which was her way of glossing over the fact that a rogue unit of the Republic Guard probably wanted Koronov dead. She would break that to him slowly. For now, it was best if he still thought the other Corellians were all waiting for him..
"Thank you, Captain." Dmitri replied, acknowledging her with a nod. He turned back to Annelise. "Thank you for coming, and for answering my questions, Annelise. While I still disagree with Ms. Thul's actions, at least I understand why she did it, and what she hoped to achieve." He pressed his lips together. "We will have to agree to disagree, and I still view this as a personal betrayal, but we should not let this prevent our people from speaking to each other in the future. Corellia and Alderaan cannot afford to ignore each other." His anger still simmered, but he was too good of a politician to simply cut all ties with his opponents. Alderaan was not the true enemy here, and they might be forced to work together it in the future.

If the Senator, or well Princess, knew i was hear she would want me to say that all she wanted was to be able to come to you again if need arises. And to pass on that the hope goes both ways. She would want you to know you can come to her with anything. With that, I wish you good day, and good luck.
She walked outside the office, down the hall a large but silent woman joined her. She was built like an amazon, and carried 2 large blasters on her hips. The fading pattern on her armors shoulders said that she was used to being armed with a shoulder mounted weapon as well. The had not had time to pain the armor the colors of Alderaan. This was one of the Hapan commandos now tasked with protecting Princess Standash. The entire squad that now served the Princess had passed every test needed to become Chume'Doro of Hapes to protect the Queen mother and would have been on that detail had they been born too the right families. Instead they were pasted over time and again. Those where who Standash brought on to be her guard. As loyal to her as any body guard could be, and driven to show that they were more than just a family name. Annelise looked over and the muscular woman A good meeting I think. Koronov's security head said something about a security situation deteriorating. Send word to the embassy and be mindful. Anyone that is a threat to Demitri is likely one to the Princess as well. The hulking woman nodded in agreement emotionless And given that I just got out of a meeting with one and head to the other, I think I am a pretty big target myself. So if you could keep me alive too that would be great. It was small and barely noticeable, but Annelise was pretty sure she saw a smile cross the warriors lips. She wasn't sure if it was because what she had said was humorous, or the woman was happy for the chance to kill something. Bout options made the Ade Decamp nervous.
