Johun vs Steffo Standard GBA rules. Location of Judges choice max 2 bladed weapons only light armour
8 - Dantoonie: Abandoned Jedi Enclave
Broken beams jut up from a collapsed building to the side. Glass and rubble litter the floors of the hallway. A steady rain plops down from the grey sky, unhurried fat drops of water slowly washing everything back to the dirt. Once, long ago, this place was a bastion of light in the galaxy. Now it is a gutted shell of it's former glory, the Jedi Enclave of Dantooine, a silent marker for the death of the Jedi.

The young Jedi Knight stared around him at the ruins. The sounds of the rain falling left him with a peacefulness that only it could bring. The rain soaked his outer robes, and the saturated hood dripped in front of Johun's face. Johun was standing in the center of what would have been the foyer of the Enclave. The stone floor still intact, but scarred, from the years of abandon. Johun seemed to stare through the remaing structure, but really he was reading what the Force was providing...

*Measured footsteps splashed upon the fractured flagstones, my left hand brushed solemnly against a staggered, once proud marble pillar.
The planet now moved to reclaim the ground it had once been forced to given up, and now creepers and vines had begun to snake there way between the cracks and fissures.
I had made my way down the broken steps which once had led down into the welcome embrace of the enclave and its warmth and shelter, it had stood as a lighthouse of hope, peace and enlightenment and now it was a husk of its former self.
Steffo knew however that with the reestablished Watchtower that the Jedi Order with a renewed vigor would be seeking to reestablish this esteemed enclave.
I now made my way down what remained of the corridor, its once white washed walls gave way to wild flower and grass and I followed this trail of nature toward the half crescent with its central shattered fountain where the renowned Jedi and a young man whom I had, had some hand in training.
I entered the vicinity of his presence, cloak sodden from the great drops of rain that still showed no sign of receding, my cloak and in particular its hood had performed a remarkable job thus far of keeping me relatively dry.
I stood across the space roughly fifty meters apart from Johun Starfield, the young man I had known had now fully matured and grown into his body, he stood a good foot above me and was heftier in build than my somewhat more slender frame and for all intent and purpose despite the recognizable familiar presence I was facing an unknown quantity.
I knew at least Johun was capable in Soresu for I had taught him form III myself, I knew also he had shown he was capable with elements of Djem So, yet his skills much like the ever present man before me had grown.
I remained silent and focused and then spoke, bowing as a greeted him.*
[/ul] I gestured around us at the remnant of the enclave.*[/font] *It would be a commemoration duel, a rekindling.
I nodded and once I saw he too was ready I un-clipped one of my solid well crafted hilts and clasped its familiar feel and shape in my right hand. Together we would ignite our weapons and carve in the air, the flourish of valiant combatants.
Then it would begin.*

Johun smiled to himself when he heard the Jedi Master speak. He was facing away from Steffo,
It has been a long time, for us and this Enclave.
Johun spun to face Steffo. He spun so quickly that his robes billowed around him. Johun held "Vormund", his light saber hilt in his right hand, in a one-handed grip near his mid-axillary line, angled forwards his opponent, with the left arm held parallel, and his left hand held up in a challenge. His right foot was positioned back, with his toes angled ninety degrees toward his right. Johun's green eyes stared at Steffo, and only then did Johun ignite "Vormund's" icy blue blade. It ignited with the typical snap-hiss of a light saber, and extended across Johun's angled shoulders toward Steffo. The rain sizzled when it struck the blade...

*The pure shaft of solid blue illuminated my features which beforehand had been overshadowed by my hood, our blades in simultaneous ignition announcing our commitment to the duel.
Following my opponents adoption of what appeared to be some semblance of the Soresu opening stance; with the beckoning gesture and blade tip pointed toward me I made my advance in the form of a measured pacing, that with each step drew me one step closer to my opponent, my now lit blade clutched in my right hand was held angled diagonally skyward, my arm bent at the elbow.
My measured walk allowed me time; just as it did my opponent, to focus, to draw insight and inspiration, to become centered and to take measure and stock of the surroundings, the derelict standing of what lay about us was very much part of this, in particular my eye had been drawn toward the tip of the fountain, but it did not fall into my plan as of yet.
Twenty meters and closing I broke into a run, I felt the force flow through me freely, not heightening speed but merely supporting the effort of a natural run so upon arrival I would be less staggered from shortage of breath.
Closing the distance rapidly my cloak billowing behind me, my right arm drops, my weapon falls bellow Johun's general line of sight, once in range the weapon blazes as it races upward in a diagonal slice aimed at his front left knee. I expected Johun to perhaps leap upward, move backward in some manner or move his weapon to intercept, should he fail (doubtful) then he would receive a shiim via the blade tip.
I was testing the water and would proceed to do so until I could gain enough detail on how to proceed and his response would tell me a great deal.*

And so it began. Johun stayed centered feeling at peace, calm, and confident. If one predisposed themselves to be defeated, they probably would be.
Johun waited, waits to see what Steffo would target and how. This was how Soresu worked. Quick parries and dodges, looking for openings to attack. But then there was also Shien, which was similar to Soresu, but instead of waiting for openings, one created there own. Johun was proficient in both, and liked to mix the two.
Seeing Steffo's strike at his left knee, Johun stepped forward with his right foot and angled his saber downward, between his left knee and Steffo's saber. This was designed to deflect Steffo's saber away from Johun. The deflection would utilize the momentum of Steffo's strike to continue upwards, but the deflection itself would hopefully cause Steffo's saber to be directed toward Steffo's right also. Johun used his momentum from the step to then rotate 180 degrees on his right foot, switching his posture to nearly the exact opposite of his previous one, left foot back instad of the right, and right arm up and parallel to the ground instead of the left, now pointing his saber at Steffo again.. Johun left his left arm at his left side.

*An angled downward facing blade, the hallmark of a Soresu combatant, Steffo loved the simplicity of Soresu and its angles, using the wrists to twist a blade and often choosing to deflect or parry as opposed to straight on blocking an attack, this often as not left the opponent open, conserved energy and turned an opponent's strength against them.
However Johun's maneuver incorporated movements of Ataru; spinning ones body in a rotational axis was not a hallmark of Soresu, yet the defensive measure in which Johun acted was very much Soresu; interesting.
There was a clash of blades, and had had I foreseen an eventuality in which our blades became momentarily locked then I would have surely would have used Trakata, but my hand was not positioned suitably for such intricacies, not to matter.
Upon contact with my blade I opted to withdraw my weapon, pulling my right arm back so as to leave as little surface area in contact with Johun's weapon as was possible, thus granting me greater leverage; which was not my intention, but also meaning that as he turned to shunt my weapon away to my right, by withdrawing my arm it would allow me to strike once more.
His angle of deflection upon the initial parry had been such that my blade continued in its momentum and thus slid up his own blade and toward the hilt of his weapon, as he span I pulled my arm back and since the strike was a shiim and thus made with the tip of my weapon I did not have to pull back too far to free my weapon. In such a manner my weapon was freed but not without some unwanted interference, for my blade had been re-directed somewhat, but hopefully not adversely enough that I would not be prevented from once again pressing the attack.
I found my blade at mid section height and in almost a parallel line with my shoulder and I advanced with a deft lunge hoping to catch Johun mid, to late spin, hoping to catch him off guard and before he could settle into a confident stance and re-assess.
My left rear leg became the propelling leg that shot my suddenly lifted right leg forward so my left foot slid across the ground, upon planting my right leg I dropped into the momentum of the lunge bending my right knee and jabbing my blade low toward his shins.
In my mind I foresaw the possibility of him leaping and pooled the force in readiness.*

Almost finished with his rotation, Johun caught a glimpse of a flash in the periphery of his right eye, Steffo's blade coming in at his shins. He didn't have much time to react. Johun brought his right arm arm down and back hard in a circular motion similar to a windmill, causing sparks and singing of the marble floor, hoping to contact Steffo's blade with his during at the point Johun's blade was perpendicular with the ground, thus causing a more lateral motion against Steffo's blade, pushing more further behind Johun. If this was successful and Steffo's blade was deflected away from Johun, then as Johun's right arm reached its maximal ability to rotate like a windmill, Johun would flip his saber about 1 foot further in the air, without rotating the blade any further. Johun would then rotate on his left foot in a pirouette motion, grabbing his saber hilt during the rotation and bringing the blade back at Steffo horizontally about even with his abdomen. If Steffo unable to stop Johun's blade, Johun would stop his own before actually striking down Steffo. Conversely, none of this would occur if Steffo's blade was not deflected initially by Johun's blade.

*Catching Johun off guard just prior to him completing his one hundred and eighty degree rotation, my blade speared forth, yet Johun did not render his leg to the searing pain that my blade would have caused him, the man's will was strong, as too was his focus.
A shower of sparks lit up, bright hot, white light flooded my retina's and I was forced to shut my eyes against the searing sudden brightness as the our blades crackled.
I believed I had gained the upper hand, he was a little uncertain of how Johun had parried once more, yet I knew it to be unorthodox and perhaps i wondered if it had been somewhat rushed, and I had forced his hand. I hoped this was the case and if so the more I could push him, the more open to mistakes Johun would become, or so was the theory. The alternative was that Johun was far more creative and unorthodox than I had given him credit for. Carefully I must tread less over confidence be my fall.
The sputtering of blades, the meeting of two forces, and I was not about to give up the leverage, my stance looking more comfortable and less awkward then Johun's: in my mind at least, despite the force I believed my position gave me the upper hand, even for a second or two, and a few seconds was all I needed.
I pushed back against Johun's blade if only to halt and slow its momentum as I focused my mind, the force that flowed freely through me I called to arms, my left hand shooting forward in a well aimed force shove targeted at the back of Johun with enough strength to send the opposing Jedi staggering three to four paces away.
Granted this sudden explosive push caught my opponent off guard then I would simultaneously rise and cover the distance this push had created calling my weapon into a two handed grip that would descend from being level with my own brow to come crashing down toward the right collar bone of Johun.
Note that this time partially due to my grip and partially because of hindsight my right thumb lay near to the activation stud.
Thus far as my analysis went I had covered ground and not given up any, I had forced Johun back and now a further attack may well lead him to be pushed further back, I knew that another attack (presuming my downward slash did not prevail) that could force him back would push him into the remnants of the corridor that lay behind him and if my photographic memory served me that corridor lay strewn with debris up until the point whereby it became impassable. If I could force Johun into this tight space then not only would it cut off his defensive options, which thus so far had incorporated intricate footwork and spinning but it would hopefully put his back against a wall and leave him with no where to go and thus ending the duel.*

The push, while not completely unexpected, was stronger that Johun expected. Johun indeed stumbled forward a few steps, but continued with his forward progress toward a wall, in hopes of being ahead of any attack Steffo assuredly would attempt as his now somewhat off balance opponent. Johun hoped that Steffo would pursue in some fashion. Approaching the wall, Johun took a few steps up it and then, with the assistance of the Force, jumped off the wall, in the opposite direction from which he approached it.

*The push being successful had forced Johun further back, I grinned as Johun moved with the push and rather then traversing down the corridor the Jed Knight transitioned instead toward the wall beside the entrance and essentially ran a few steps up the wall using the momentum from the push to some degree, before I felt a surge in the force as Johun executed what was essentially a force leap of the wall back toward my now on rushing presence.
Unhindered or unopposed I was free to travel as intended and attack as intended, however now my opponent had not moved as expected and thus I could not attack him as I had planned, yet this did not alter the initial placement of my weapon, for the blade still came from being level with my forehead clasped in a two handed grip. Rather than it slice downward with vicious aplomb I raised the angle by thrusting my arms upward but still sliced. This alteration in attack angle would bring my weapon to slice at my opponents descending form roughly in line with his central axis.
I was ready and I had planned that Johun in his descending flight may move to draw upon the falling leaf attack or some semblance of it. Thus, this in my mind being a possibility I had my forward left leg planted so I could as needed swiftly bend my left knee, with my thumb riding near the activation stud I intended; should such an eventuality occur, to deactivate my weapon and drop forward quite possibly into a forward roll.*

Johun had expect Steffo to attack somehow. Steffo was below Johun so, it was only obvious to attack upward. However, thrusting from where his hands were, which was roughly his forehead, upward, the distance to full elbow extension was relatively short, about a foot or so. This shouldn't generate a great amount of force. Also, full arm extension provided very little stability when struck compared to bent elbows... Johun, in his descent, switched his saber to his left hand. He swung his saber from his right to left, in an effort to contact and then force Steffo's saber to Steffo's right and out of Johun's way. Hopefully it forced it out of the way enough to shift Steffo's shoulders that way also, but Johun would except enough movement to keep himself from being skewered on Steffo's blade. Simultaneous as the swing, Johun pushed with his right had with Force at Steffo, again hoping to move Steffo enough to land puncture free, but he pushed with enough Force to move most people a few meters, possible to the ground given his angle downward...

*Reagardless of my re-orientated slice at Johun's descending frame the Jedi Knight had the presence of mind to swap his weapon to his other hand, bring his blade across to his left before bringing it from left to right to swipe at my bade, it was upon contact that the advantage in stability my two handed grip presented me would be utilized, as to would the use of trakata.
Trakata was a move I had reflected upon currently in this duel, I had in my mind missed at least two opportunities to use it, both of which may have been advantageous to my position, however I was not about to give up on the implementation of the move now.
Our blades once more clattered, despite his single held grip he had the advantage in gained speed, taking into account the manner in which his blade was travelling opposed to mine. The strike rattled and jarred my arms and already my weapon began to shift, it was at this moment that my thumb which had been mere centimeters from the activation stud found it securely and pressed down deactivating my weapon.
Had I chosen to perhaps roll forward or move forward as planned would not have been advantageous and with my opponent in this moment of time still airborne rolling forward may move me into a dangerous position, alas the decision was taken from me, for as he descended he unleashed a push with enough force to propel an object a few meters away.
I was hit by a shock of energy, it was as though Johun had landed upon the top of my chest with his weight which sent me staggering back before I lost my balance and dropped to land upon my bottom upon the ground. It was only experience and a heightened awareness that alerted me to a sense that something was about to take place.
A mere second perhaps prior to the unleashing of the push, the hairs prickled upon the back of my neck which gave me a heads up that danger was imminent.
I landed upon my buttocks upon the hard unforgiving ground but did not relent and went with the added momentum choosing to propel my legs toward my head and tuck my knees into my chest to fall into a more graceful backward roll. Thankfully my use of trakata had at least taken the worry of having to avoid an ignited blade out of the equation.
Presuming my opponent did not land and cover the five meter distance between us before I could rise, then I would do just that and once more ignite my blade and focus my mind. I would clutch my weapon once more in my right hand in a reverse grip and stand with my dominant right leg behind me with my left arm raised a little, my palm facing the ground.
My focus would not shift, I would tighten my perception, channel the force, my strength lay in the force, my spirit was resolute. This was the first occasion in which I had given ground. I had pushed Johun, but thus far he had not broken. His defense to this point had stood up to my prodding. I would await his attack, it would be odd in my mind for Johun to hold back when his opponent was momentarily disadvantaged, but nothing about this duel thus so far had been orthodox.*

Johun landed gracefully, thankful that he had gained some distance between himself and Steffo. This was an excellent opportunity to press the attack, even though Johun knew Steffo would be expecting it. It had been some time since Jouhn had fought anyone, even if this skirmish wasn't truly life or death. Johun's heart and respiratory rates had increased, and his eyes had dilated. All of this was from the surge of catecholamines rushing through Johun's system. While these were natural reactions to stress, they were detrimental to keeping a calm head. Instead of attacking, Johun took a moment to re-center himself into the Force. He kept the five meter distance between himself and Steffo, facing his opponent. Both arms at his, saber in his left hand, angled forward and downward. He gazed at Steffo, focusing, analyzing the situation...

*Time, precious time and it was granted to me, time to recover, and time to re-focus.
Thus far I had probed Johun's defenses and thus far he had staved off any serious harm, but he had shown me the manner in which he fought. Johun was much more defense orientated and a great deal of his moves had involved axis of movement more in line with Ataru than any other form.
The force flowed freely through me, I tightened my focus, renewed and revived my fighting spirit. I delved deep into the force to find that place, to become the stronghold surrounded by the storm. A source of calm powerful purpose, I would use this focus to heighten my fighting spirit and morale.
I began to advance once more toward him with a renewed vigor and intensity, the force was quickly driven by my mind to briefly accelerate nervous reaction, my heart and lungs were supported and cradled as the explosive energy was driven through the muscles in my legs and time around me seemed to slow as I sped toward Johun.
I covered the short distance of meters between us, dust kicking up beneath my feet, when upon him I came at him at normal speed my blade moving to strike out in an unorthodox fashion as I punched my arm upward as though to cut at his right hip my blade flying forth in a reverse grip. I planned the feint well, I hoped that Johun would move to defend and counter in some manner as he had been drawn to counter my other attacks.
In my minds eye I believed that he may counter my rising strike with some form of defensive posture that would place his blade in a horizontal position to my vertically travelling one, this be the case then a swift rotation of my right elbow to my left so my fist now pointed to my left would completely alter the trajectory from an upward slice that would cut from right hip to left shoulder to a horizontal slice that would cut him at waist level.
I was mindful to keep more weight upon my rear left leg, this could come in useful depending upon how he responded.*

Steffo moved quickly, too quick for non-Force sensitives and possible some that were Force Sensitive. Johun reacted, guided by the Force and not by sight. Johun lifted his left hand about mid chest height, keeping his elbow bent, as he didn't have time to do much else than try to and deflect or absorb the blow with his saber. Along with raising his hand, Johun rotates his saber so that it is from his left hand downward toward his right foot. This angle is an exact perpendicular angle to the reverse grip strike of Steffo's. It also would allow the block or deflection of the horizontal adjustment of Steffo.

He blocked my blade in a manner that was only proper, his blade tip pointing ground ward positioned left of the hip I aimed it, the force of my blow rattling against his defensive position, sparks issued forth. I gritted my teeth, the whites of my canines flashing as the energy traveled and reverberated up my right forearm.
Yet with roughly seventy per cent of my weight upon my rear left leg my front right leg was free to strike true as it flicked out, toes curled back to present the ball of my booted foot in a low front snap kick aimed at his nearest leg. The moment my blade was prevented from passing clean my kick was unleashed and presumed to travel upon the inside of his weapon. Most interestingly was that if desired I could lean further back and send my foot groin or even chest height, although notably the higher I projected it the less momentum it would incur upon my opponent due to the manner in which the kick had been flung. The kick would be fired shin level and returned ground ward.
No matter, the kick was but a trifle of the re-aligned offensive, a twist or more accurately a realignment of my weapon via a rotation of my wrist would position my smallest finger so it pointed skyward, with a rotational movement of my wrist I aimed to traverse my blade up the length of his keeping upon as much pressure as possible whilst swiftly moving the edge of my weapon to what I hoped was a vulnerable weapon casing. The moment my foot would return; presuming it traveled to and from its intended target unhindered I would move it in line with my right and place dominant weight upon my right foot in ready for another offensive.

The kick hurt. Johun wasn't in a great position to defend it, so he took the impact. Fortunately, Johun had study the Force ability of Crucitorn, and he could take much higher amounts of pain than most. Still though, the impact to his left shin was painful and caused his leftovers shift, throwing off his balance to that side some. This caused him to lean forward and to his left, which in turn caused him to make his arm try and compensate for balance by extending his elbow and rotating his wrist. Johun's saber became horizontal instead of angled, which would hopefully stop or delay the slide of Steffo's blade. Johun palm thruster forward with his right hand toward Steffo with a Force Push, trying to create some distance so Johun would be in a less vulnerable position.

*I felt the blunt force impact as the ball of my foot connected with Johun’s shin and rather than continue and add further insult to injury I swiftly returned my foot ground ward as initially planned rather than attempt an audacious attack at his groin or chest. As the kick connected Johun partially stumbled, naturally the low level attack has rattled him and to some extent caused for a loss of balance coinciding with the movement of my left leg to become parallel with my front.
As my former student faltered my body angle was more side on and as Johun threw out his elbow to his right he had to twist his blade to a horizontal position from it having been facing his right foot. Presuming he rotated his wrist ant clockwise (since it seemed more awkward and highly impractical, although not impossible to turn his wrist clockwise, due to the mechanics of ones wrist) his blade tip would be pointing to his right. In this motion Johun could effectively to some extent draw his blade to his left. However this as I saw left his body and particularly his stomach open to a thrust which could be simply accomplished by the extension of my arm. The thrust would lack power but not precision.
Only were it not for the flare of danger, one can only presume I may have been more successful. I couldn't be certain if my attempted thrust had scorched him or not.
I had to react, the hairs prickled as before, danger descended and the motion of Johun’s hand suggested a push, a push not unlike he had unleashed before yet perhaps not as strong as the previous one, whether that be due to design or his current predicament I could not tell. However my current offensive and more aggressive stance had now upon two separate occasions left me open to attack by the force, the fact of the matter was that in pressing for an advantage I had once again opened myself up to a force assault.
I retreated, using my front leg to push off the ground so as the energy struck me I traveled backward, this time able to retain my balance due to my footwork and foot position. I took perhaps a few more steps back than may have been necessary; as I did I reassessed the situation. Perhaps time for a change of tactic was needed, pressing Johun had pushed him as it had before, I even believed that eventually I could break through, but how long, well that I did not know and a continual assault would eventually starve me of energy.
Twenty paces away I levelled my blade and drew it to be level with my right hip which was turned to face him. My left hand came to rest upon the blade as; still held in a reverse grip by my right I drew the hilt to be level with my forehead and angled the blade tip diagonally downward toward the ground. I then began to search with my mind for what I knew to be there, remember that loose stone plinth, yes an object the size of a medium ball, constructed from stone mind. I sought it with my mind as I watched Johun and slowly began to step toward him.*

Johun extinguished Vormund and threw his arms backward, his outer robes sliding off of his shoulders and arms onto the floor behind him in a heap. A perfectly circular hole was visible in his green tunic, where the left lateral anterior costal arch would be anatomically. Johun quickly pulled open his tunic exposing his anterior chest and abdomen. His clearly defined musculature was marred by a small burn under where the hole in his tunic had been. Johun was lucky that this was a friendly duel, or he may have surely been killed. Johun looked up at Steffo, and gave him that typical Corellian grin.
Looks like you get first blood.
Johun finished removing the tunic, as it would restrict his movement being partially undone as it was. The large katana scar on both the anterior and posterior sides of his right shoulder was the visible. Johun now stood topless. His hardened physique the result of years of training. He brought Vormund in front of him, grasping it in both hands, right on top of left. He held his saber vertical, at waist height, about 6 inches in front of himself. He then ignited Vormund's icy blue blade, waiting for Steffo...
