He was quite pleased by the Ezra's good nature, as he slowly started to see why exactly it was he had been guided to this boy by the force. He watched as Ezra then climbed over the fence and unlocked the gate from the other side, allowing him to get through and continue following the boy // Life is filled with strange things I find... But sometimes, they can lead to the most interesting things. In fact, sometimes you find that the more random a gate or door is, the more interesting the reward on the other side is... //

Bronzium plating gleamed amber in the setting sun of Prakith's sky; the hulking forms of the Quincy Battlegroup lowering themselves ponderously into Prakith's airspace a terrifying site to behold for many of its citizens. Their space defenses non-existent, their city shield was activated, and a single planetary-orbital Turbolaser blasted away at the Chelandion Cruiser - but the combined turbolaser fire and a pair of well place assault concussion missiles silenced the bothersome weapon.
And so the siege began - the ships forming a large ring around the city, with the Chelandion directly above the city pointing downward, a wide band message was sent to both civilian and military channels. The threat was clear - lower shields and surrender to the Quincy Syndicate, or the fleet would pummel its way through and set the city ablaze. This, of course, wasn't the first time Prakith had received this threat - first it was the Empire, then the Sith, then the New Order of the Eye, then other empires - all, eventually, had taken over the world. Which was why the city shields were lowered, and envoys were requested for negotiation. Before the battle had even begun, starfighters roamed in Prak City's skies, Frigates lowered themselves to dock with moorings and release their soldiers, and the Chelandion loomed in the sky, using threat of force to keep the city in line.
The government, historically a dictatorship, was no different now than it was then - a jealous little warlord, lording over his little section of space, was scared out of his mind at the sight of a legitimate fleet bearing down on his planet. It was this same little man, a fat and despicable man who held most of the worlds wealth, who was then choked to death on live holonet feed for all the planet to see - choked to death by Quincy Kael Khan, no less. Not hours later, a broadcast, originating from the Quincy Elders, was beam to all corners of the planet.
:People of Prakith, we are the Quincy. And what we want...is a home. We are rogues, renegades if you will, who wander the space lanes and search for somewhere to call our own. We don't want your resources, your wealth, or anything of the sort. We want a place to live - a place to live free of prejudice for our species, the Samuac, so that we might once more become a power in this universe. Are not our goals similar? How powerful Prakith was in her early days! How envied was her status in empires. And, like us, who were once powerful and envied - like us, how far she has fallen. People of Prakith - we will rule you fairly. We will rule you justly. Accept us, and let us PROVE to you just how generous we can be.:
A good speech - a good speech made incredible by the Quincy's action shortly after. Seizing Prak city's Capitol building, the Quincy immediately made sweeping changes to the planets government infrastructure; to earn the loyalty of the wealthy and affluent, tax breaks were given to all who who pledged themselves as "Loyalists" and who would vocally and visibly support the change in government. To the middle class, a proportional tax break on salaries, and the creation of new jobs as the Quincy used city infrastructure to begin to set up their InfoNet system. To the ghettos, food and clothing were bought outright by the Quincy using their blackmarket funds - and then distributed throughout the ghettos; additionally, working conditions for all miners, as well as mandatory health coverage of miners was implemented. The freeing of all slaves, slavery being something that the Quincy abhorred, was implemented - with the immigrated Stereb species given citizen status, as well as full rights.
The Quincy came as dictators - but benevolent dictators, and the economic condition of the planet began to improve as the Quincy used cash infusions to jump start the economy, primarily by creating new jobs in the form of analysts, technicians, soldiers, industrial work - needed to repair the planetary defense infrastructure - as well as new mining operations. This was widely viewed as popular - but the freeing of the slaves especially was upsetting to several high-class families and corporations who made their credits off the foul industry. Such corporations who voluntarily lofted the use of such slaves, were bombarded to bits from orbit; those families and citizens who cried out had their wealth and assets forcibly taken and merged into Quincy accounts. This was mostly out of convenience; it was a way to show the planet's population that the Quincy would enforce their laws, but, also, allowed the Quincy to forcibly take resources that, otherwise, they would have to go through public channels to obtain.
More important than the planet's temperament towards their new rulers, was the attitudes of the old regime - the remnant forces of the Empire and the NOE, those who held political office especially, followed by military positions - these, in the span of several days, were systematically killed, forced out of their positions, or otherwise eliminated and replaced with Quincy Samuac. The political and governmental structure took on a nigh Caste like system overnight, with Samuac at the top, followed by the Loyalists, followed by everyone else; with the Loyalists more than slightly aware of the illicit nature of their new overlords, especially in light of the planets illicit trade operations.

In the weeks that followed, Prakith seemed to hold its breath - its stoic businessmen and stalwart miners waiting to see if the invading aliens would continue to make changes, or, conversely, if there seemingly "to good to be true" business dealings and government affairs would actually continue. And, continue they did; tens of thousands of jobs were made as repairs, updates, refurbishments, and restructuring of the planets defense systems, as well as the defense systems of Prak city itself, were implemented. The trio of planetary defense turbolasers, installed by the former empire, especially required work - all three having been either crippled or destroyed outright. The city wide shield, which the Quincy had threatened to blast their way through, was in actuality only at twenty-five percent efficiency, needing copious amounts of repairs itself. On top of all of this, the recruitment of soldiers, some one-hundred thousand plus, was also being implemented - along with vehicle complements and acquisition that suited the unique terrain of the planet - the purchase of airspeeders and atmospheric craft especially was of high concern to the Quincy, who were committed to developing a planetary defense force that absolutely dominated the airspace of Prakith.
And that was just the city.
In space, the fleet went through drills and mock battles, the rusty fleet commanders and their crews being brought back up to battle readiness. At the same time, sensor buoys, first alert sensor and comm stations, and more were placed in strategic places in the Prakith system, particularly around its multitude of planets and moons - this was specifically so that a fleet couldn't drop out of hyperspace and hide in the gravity well of a planet. Moreover, intensive research into the Byss Run - the stretch of hyperspace that was held open by hundreds of S-thread devices, devices that actually forcefully held open the hyperspace corridor, was implemented. A plan to reinstitute old imperial doctrine - the use of Deep Core Access Codes formerly used by the empire, was looked into. The idea was that several S-threads would be systematically turned off and on, acting as buffer zones between navigable space and the Prakith system - those without codes would find that the S-threads would be turned off - resulting in dropping out of hyperspace, and facing a many years long trek at sublight to the Prakith system. The entire affair was nicknamed "Deep Core", and, compared to the work on the information network, was hardly noteworthy.
Ah, but then there was the information network. The Lormar-class refinery station, recently procured, was beng heavily retrofitted - its refinery equipment being scooped out and replaced with regular decking and crew / operational space, the station was being prepped to be turned into a full blown listening post. The refinery equipment being sent down to the surface, emptying out and retrofitting the station wasn't the hard part - rather, obtaining and affixing military grade transceivers, rectenna, and other equipment to the station, then rewiring the entire station for secure network access, enhanced shielding, and other non-standard function, was proving far more challenging and time consuming. And this, was merely stage one. Stage two consisted of buying or otherwise harvesting a trio of subspace / holonet relay stations, stage three consisted of obtaining non-mass holonet transceivers, stage four was procuring some dozen or so relay satellites - easy enough, and stage five, the final stage, was manufacturing subminiature probe drones, essentially modified message pods / probe droids from old Imperial plans - as Prakith was a major imperial stronghold and former site of the inquisitorious, it was feasible to do this - if not time consuming and costly.
In all, the various stages were progressing very slowly, with most of the resources being devoted to the station, the city, or the planetary defense forces.

Work was slow, but in the months that followed the Quincy invasion, things were beginning to fall into a regular routine - the political climate began to settle, and the economy of Prakith was improving admirably compared to where they had began. City based defenses were almost fully operational - with two of the three planetary defense turbolasers repaired and fully operational, the third, the solitary ion cannon, was proving more problematic. Meanwhile, recruitment of standing armies (and the technical and logistics positions that accompanied such a large force) was over half way done - with all military personnel recruited, but currently being trained. Indeed, as far as armies were concerned, they were well into stage two - the procurement of war vehicles. This was a matter of contention for Kael Khan - for he had developed a small committee of commanders and such to decide on various makes and models. Some felt that a complete step away from traditional walkers was an exceedingly wise decision considering the nigh untraversable terrain that was Prakith. Others felt that vehicles as a whole should be ignored - with a focus almost exclusively put on vehicle/turret fusions to bolster planetary defenses.
Nevertheless, the committee would decide soon, and purchase and construction of the vehicles would begin.
In space, the battle fleet had been formed up to military standards - the fleet at full efficiency and battle readiness, several trios of frigates doing patrols of the system at any given time. The advanced warning network, the system of sensor beacons and buoys placed around the systems planets and moons - was well underway, with about forty percent of the system being covered by sensor nets. There was, however, considerable debate - again, between military committee members - as to what form the advanced planetary defense systems should look like. Some of the older generation lofted the use of Golan Defense platforms - others, however, preferred a minefield. The minefield proponents of course were banking on the fact that Operation Deep Core would be economically feasible - if this were true, all travel would practically be forced through a singular point, riddled with mines, and make for an impressively fortified position. However, they had yet to hear back from the economic feasibility commission.
Then there was the information network. Which, in all honesty, was nigh disaster. The station had been prepped, but technicians were having great difficulty rewiring the station to handle the foreseen electrical and dataload - the dataload, especially, was expected to be massive. And, while Prakith had the facilities to create some of the more advanced technologies needed for the listening post, the fact remained that this was an orbital operation - the station incapable of setting down on the surface in Prak City's spaceport for refit. This being so, the Quincy had requisitioned four Mobile Space Dock 220's on lease - hoping to use the mobile facilities to work on large stretches of the station at a time for the refit. Until the docks arrived, though, the entire affair would be halted to a complete stop on the station front. There was slightly better news on the non-mass holonet transceiver front, with Prakith technicians harvesting several dozen locally fixed transceivers for use in the InfoNet - those that remained were re-routed and configured for the loss in network capability, overall affecting holonet transmission time by a few seconds - but nothing more. Relay station work was essentially halted - the resources needed to retool the Lormar being sizable enough that the relays became secondary to it. The Subminiature probe drones fared slightly better - the delicate electronics and sensor blocking coatings and metals (primarily durinium) were harvested and smelted easily enough, and the electrotelescopes used in the probes were being manufactured en masse as well. However, the miniature propulsion systems, the simplistic droid brains, and the one-shot hyperdrive systems were proving slightly more difficult than expected to integrate together (because, let's be honest, if something can go wrong, it WILL go wrong). As a result, designers and manufacturers alike were having to form committees themselves to resolve the issues - in of itself only compounding the issue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quincy Kael Khan stood in an at ease position in the Capitol building of Prak City, surveying vast regiments of troops in the parade grounds below as they ran their drills. Over a hundred thousand strong, they had much work to do before they became a true fighting force. "Impressive, are they not?" Came the voice of Sylvan from behind Kael. Turning, Kael regarded the man. "Impressive. Very impressive. But...we're not ready. Not yet." Sylvan, taking a seat, waved the General’s words away. “Relax, general, I wasn’t suggesting that they were. But, even you have to concede that we have come a long, long way from where we began?”
Quincy Kael Khan look apprehensive, but, slowly, the smallest of quirks at the corner of his mouth did form. “Maybe.” Admitted Kael, but, ever the pessimist, followed the remark up with a detailed report. “However, we are behind in terms of our projected timetable. Planetary defense lasers are at 75% completion, planetary armies are at 80% completion with total armies being recruited, but training is ongoing, not to mention the planetary defense vehicle committee - estimated at a mere 10% completion.”
Sylvan, sighing slightly, listened to the numbers, and accepted the offered datapad that Kael provided. Statistics, projections, requests for additional resources, requests for additional personnel…the lists on the pad went on and on. Setting the pad down, Sylvan eyed Kael disapprovingly. “Kael, all these are to be expected. We’re reforming an entire government for the Wall’s sake.” Standing, Sylvan walked over to the window to stand next to Kael, gesturing at the scene before them. “You look out upon this, and all you see are the shortcomings - this is in part what makes you such a fine General. You never are content - you ever force yourself upward to better and greater heights. But look at what you’ve accomplished in a mere six months. The start of your career was on Fresia - and here, on Prakith, you have truly proven yourself as capable. Bask in this, if only for a single minute. That’s an order.”
Kael Khan’s face soured at this, but, for a single minute (and not a second more), he took in the scene. He took in the towering dagger-like skyscrapers, the regimented ranks of soldiers, the mountains, the skies, the civilians who went about their day - the rows of airspeeders and traffic in the sky rivaling that of Coruscant. And…he had to admit. The Quincy HAD come a long way. “You’re right. To a degree.” Kael said grudgingly.
Sylvan smirked slightly at the admission, and gestured back to the desk. Back to work. “Thank you. See? This is also my duty - to keep my soldiers grounded. Now…what about system defenses, and, of course, Operation Celebrata? “
Kael looked rather dour at the mention of the two, and, sitting down, began to recount. “Terrestrial defense is, by far, the most far along. Our total planetary defense capacity is estimated at 70%. System defense is a mere 40% - our sensor nets are nearly completed, and we have primary coverage and early warning capability. However, besides our battle fleet, we have no other form of system defense - committees, as well as myself personally, are split and undecided on whether to use Golan defense platforms, or, conversely, space mines.”
Sylvan furrowed his brow at this, gesturing vaguely - as Quincy seemed to be prone to do. “Why the dissension? I would think that a group of military leaders, given the state of a battlefield, would arrive at relatively similar conclusions.
Kael shook his head. “No, its not the system itself, but rather this ‘Operation Deep Core’. The committee remains divided as to retain the use of Golans or mines in response to this proposed operation to close hyperspace routes to the system. Consequently, until we hear from the economic and technologic feasibility board, it is highly unlikely we will arrive at any concrete decision until we hear from them.”
Sylvan nodded slowly, deep in thought. “Very well, very well. And the InfoNet?”
Kael shrugged in response. “Marginally better. Operations continual forward on the Lormar in regards to retrofitting it into a listening post. However, progress is slow, and we’ve found various issues and problems in retrofitting the station. In all, we’ve estimated the length of time needed to fully retrofit to be twice our normal projections. All work on relay stations has halted - resources being diverged to work on the Lormar. Subminiature probes are coming along - with reverse engineering the devices being a slow, but steady. Non-mass transceivers have, also, been slow but steady. Local transceivers have been harvested and repurposed - with our local network reconfigured to compensate for the loss in network capability. In all, we will have peak operational efficiency in…six more months.”
Sylvan nodded, slightly, before standing to leave. “Very well and very good General. Continue forward with the Council’s blessings.” Kael, saluting, waited for Sylvan to leave before relaxing the salute and turning back to the window. Silently, he took in the scene once more - his mouth slowly pressing into a grim line.
“We will make our projections, Elder. I swear it.”
Three months (one week RL = three months) had passed and work had progressed much faster, and much had changed. In the intervening months, a panel of military leaders, specifically overseeing the creation of the Quincy InfoNet had formed - simply called the Bureau. The Bureau had proposed radical change and departure from the Quincy's drafted military plan. Rather than try and hold Prakith militarily, they suggested a massive decentralization of the Quincy hierarchy, centered around the InfoNet, and using Prakith as a base for diplomacy and non-military operations. The suggestion had been hotly debated. Already, massive amounts of credits and man hours had been put into developing the Prakith system - something that the Bureau acknowledged, and stressed that major defense positions hadn't been built yet. Indeed, they argued this was the ideal time to reevaluate the stance on Prakith. The primary concern of all, of course, was that the shift in focus would destabilize the Prakith economy. Beyond this, many were of the opinion that General Kael Khan was more than capable of leading the Quincy back into galactic politics - and that there was no need for decentralization. Ultimately, it fell to the committees to decide - and, ultimately, it was decided that the Bureau was indeed correct. Building an empire, fortification, this was the game of millions strong organizations. There were rumors of war stirring - of the Imperial remnant and pocket resistances skirmishing - and these were the organizations that could sustain such a thing. Bona fide factions, in other words. The Quincy were not this strong yet - and, in the light of Sylvia Sylvan's talks and discussions with this Imperial presence, it would be the prudent thing to disappear into the shadows.
Such a radical change, indeed, a complete reversal of many policies; but the entire affair wasn't without warrant. Political reasons, for one, were of great influence; the massive starfleet in orbit was EXPENSIVE to keep operating, even from a mere week to week stand point. Fuel, food, personnel, all were costly ventures that continued to drain resources - this problem was only mirrored by the ground side forces and installations. Such as it was, in the end, that it came down to one thing - credits. See, the Prakith economy was supported by this massive Quincy military build up - but, once the build up ended, once there was no need for the mass number of jobs, the economy would plummet. With no way to support the standing forces and armies, the Quincy could very well be done in from resource shortages rather than war. Hence the massive shift into the InfoNet; the InfoNet, as it was proposed, was primarily a network of satellites and relays, with a central listening post hub staffed by droids. In all, the entire affair was easily sustainable - in comparison to the Quincy's other operations anyway. Beyond these reasons, there was also the issue of war - and a war would eventually come to Quincy soil, as it always did. The Quincy would be unable to hold off invasion, unless they allied themselves with other forces. This would in effect end their neutrality and ability to negotiate - making them indebted to their allies.
This negated the purpose of the InfoNet being built in the first place.
Such as it was that all work on terrestrial defenses halted, the city shield and three planetary turbolasers being disassembled and loaded into the ships above. This was naturally passed off to the public as a large maintenance overhaul. Beyond this electronic countermeasure suites, sensor baffling materials, jammers, and other such installation grade devices were put into production - terrestial manufacturing and resource capability put into stealth and espionage applications over terrestial defense. Out of the armies below, commando and elite troops were trained expansively in espionage and data collection - Intelligence and counter-intelligence warfare. The rest, numbering in the thousands, were put either on leave or on patrol - augmenting the planets police forces and planetary defense forces. Weapons, in the tens of thousands, were taken from the military force as large sections were demilitarized - rifles, pistols, grenades, combat armors, all were packed and deployed into space to be stowed on various ships. In space, all resources were halted and then focussed on the InfoNet program, primarily refitting the Lormar, which was at 70% completion - the internal architecture being reconfigured, the refinery equipment completely gone and replaced with decks and room, the internal electrical system rewired, and most importantly - the internal data hardlines reconfigured and integrated to accommodate the projected dataload. Beyond this, the four leased Mobile Spacedocks began attaching and integrating military grade transceivers, rectenna, and other sensor suites to the station. Internally, personnel moved computers, commstations, comscanners, Megaputers, and hundreds of other such devices into the station's interior - droid compliments, having been requisitioned, were stationed, programmed, and otherwise familiarized with the stations operations as they arrived. Additionally, the sensor net array that had been deployed throughout the system was gathered, satellite by satellite, and then stored on the Lormar.
Things were proceeding nicely - very nicely indeed.
Completion - the Lormar had been retrofitted, the wiring and hard-lines laid down, the rectenna, antenna, sensor nodes, and various other sensor instruments integrated into the station. Jammers and counter intrusion systems had been integrated as well - and the station grade deflector shield upgraded to military standard. Theoretically, the mobile listening post would be able to listen to a whole sector worth of communications - however, the station would need to be tuned, and the kinks worked out before it would be put into official operation. Towards this end, a non-descript communications shuttle was launched from the station and jumped to hyperspace - it's communication bursts would serve to tune the station to galactic background noise, help to double check system operations, and, in general streamline station operations. Simply put, just because the refit had been completed, there was still a gratuitous amount of work that needed to be done before it was activated for military duty.
This did, however, allow for resources to be freed up for the continuation of the InfoNet project - relay stations were in the process of being acquired, along with more non-mass holonet stations and satellites. The majority of the work was acquisitions - with a lengthy reprogramming needed afterwards to refit the assets as to work in concert with the station itself. Indeed, the greatest problem was, still, stubbornly, the Subminiature probe drones. Albeit the government of Prakith was sharing designs and specs from the abandoned Inquisitorious program, the designs were still complicated and, unfortunately, time consuming. So far, programming and AI architecture had been taken from elegance message drones and then upgraded with an custom made espionage suite - but the merging of the two programs wasn't complete. Production of sensor blocking materials - durinium primarily - as well as jammers and ECM generators were far more efficient and forthcoming in comparison. Politically, the decision to decommission the fleet standing had been approved, and, further, to focus on station grade materials and components.
And so things progressed...slowly...surely...but inevitably.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silently, Quincy Kael Khan stood and observed the planet below, hands clasped behind his back, the observation deck of the Chelandion quiet besides the gentle hum of engines and life support. The silence was broken by the gentle hiss of pneumatic doors opening - but Kael didn't turn to acknowledge the sound. "For the record, I don't approve of this new plan of action. I see the value, militarily and politically - but I do not approve." Kael said to the man behind him, a man who, by his step and gait, Kael determined to be Sylvan. "Kael...I apologize. Had I known that the council of elders would support the Bureau so heartily and whole favoredly...I would have pressed to have the motion dismissed." Sylvan said apologetically, coming to stand next to Kael. In the silence that followed, Sylvan cleared his throat, continuing on. "Nevertheless, you remain General of our forces - " He was interrupted by Kael, who looked to Sylvan harshly at the mention of "General". "Sylvan...what good is being General of these forces, if the Elders reverse my work? If the Elders second guess my motives and strategies? The very reason we came to Prakith was for this very reason...to rebuild our empire, to rebuild our forces, and to rebuild the Quincy name. But the Bureau preyed on the Elder's fear, their fear of growing strong again, of becoming a target again, to further their agenda...I'm a glorified puppet. Not a General."
Sylvan listened quietly, silently, and opened his mouth to say something - before closing it again after a few moments. Eventually, though, he muttered something, under his breath, as he turned and left the observation deck. "Well then, General, perhaps you should lead the Bureau, and not its current Director."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With that, the fleet jumps to hyperspace, along with the communications shuttle.
And, just like that, after what had been nearly a year plus (IC), all the components for the Quincy SpyNet had been completed. The three relay stations had been procured and reprogrammed, the non-mass transceivers harvested from the collective space of Fresia and Prakith, and relay satellites had been harvested, programmed, and ultimately equipped for military duty. Loaded onto a modified mine deployer corvette, the ship as a whole oriented and then jumped to hyperspace soon after. There were still, of course, numerous problems and issues to sort out - first among them the station itself. Even with the rest of the information system running smoothly, it mattered very little in the long run if the system as a whole couldn't be coordinated by the Lormar.
That would soon be addressed, hopefully - an outside Slicer had been contracted thus far, and was inbound to fine tune the Lormar's databanks and supercomputer. In the interim, the rest of the system would be set up, tuned, oriented, and then fully activated so that the Lormar could quickly jump into duty. Theoretically in any case.
Life on Prakith continued as normal, even with the absence of Harnan Ren. The handful of Imperial administrators ran most day to day things anyway, with Harnan only ever stepping in when major decisions needed to be made. Parades were thrown, trade continued, and the people prospered. Life under the banner of the First Order went on. Those that conformed to the laws and did not cause trouble found that there were many benefits to Imperial Rule
Prak City was an oddity within the Deep Core. Yet the First Order did not neglect it, nor did the Knight's Ren, who made this planet their headquarters. Stormtroopers were seen on a daily basis, giving order to the citizens. The flag of the First Order hung high on every spire, corner, and major facility, giving a sense of identity, a proud identity, to the citizens. And above all, the wedge shape of a Resurgent-class Battlecruiser, over the planet's surface, gave them a sense of pride.
The imposing Citadel of the Ren towered above even the tallest buildings in Prak City. To those friendly with the Ren, it was a symbol and provided a sense of safety. To those on unfriendly terms, it was a symbol of terror and unease. It's imposing dark metallic surface held many dark secrets within and no one wanted to find out what was hidden away. Some of the worst criminals captured across the Deep Core were carted in, but their bodies were never seen again. Something that was not necessarily seen as a bad thing by much of the populace
And the farmer was actually a nice enough fellow. Immediately the man and Alem seemed to bond. He seemed fairly knowledgeable concerning troop movement in the area. Of course the way it looked you'd have to suffering from a pretty severe sight impediment not to have some knowledge of Troops movement. Still the girls didn't pry. Shakk asked from out of nowhere -Shakk- "Gid have you got any seroquel here?" Her sister stiffened up -Gid- "Yes sweetheart... why?" Shakk suffered from a disorder that was readily controlled with drugs. That noted, this might be the last place where she'd want her sister to have a psychotic episode. And so they walked. And walked. And walked. You get the point; They walked a lot. Then, just like Forrest Gump, one day they just stopped. I'm a stroke of luck, there farmer friend happened by and they caught a ride
While much of the First Order seemed to despise the Ren, or not wish to think about or associate too much with the Ren, Prakith was different. They had certainly started off with fear, having heard the stories concerning the Ren. But over the years under the leadership of the Ren, the people had grown to fear them less and respect them. The Ren had not bankrupted them, but increased their wealth and prestige within the Deep Core. The Purge Troopers were a talented unit, which gave the populace confidence in their security. Crime was still certainly an inconvenience upon society, but few criminals escaped justice. Those within Imperial Command that were transferred to the Deep Core either grew respect for the Ren, or were very quickly rotated out. A task Haro Bibble oversaw with extreme prejudice. The Ren's mission could not, would not, be interrupted or delayed because of dissenting voices from those posted here. He made sure of that
A coded message arrived to the Orbital Control for Prakith, granting clearance for the Imperial shuttle ID'ed as Dione. It was to be waved through all checks and directed down to the VIP section of the Prak City Spaceport Once she had been given clearance to land, Faina had brought her Imperial shuttle down from orbit and made for the spaceport. As she is descending towards the city, Faina observes that the skyscrapers really do look like the gaping, fang-filled mouth of a hungry animal; or maybe, she thinks with a shake of her head, that is just her slight apprehension about coming alone to the heartland of the Knights of Ren coloring her perception of her destination. The thought of seeing her eldest daughter, Fiora, dispels the sense of impending doom quickly enough as, bringing the shuttle's lower articulated flanking wings into their upright, inward positions as she reaches the VIP section of the city's spaceport, she commences the landing procedures, excitement and eagerness to see Fiora drowning out her uneasiness.
Once the shuttle has set down and she has powered the engines down, Faina lowers the entry ramp and heads aft, grabbing her rucksack from the gunnery station along the way and slinging it over her left shoulder. Pausing at the top of the ramp, Faina takes a deep breath and unconsciously pats the right side of the olive hued peacoat she wears over nondescript khaki pants and a black turtleneck sweater, briefly considering leaving the lightsaber concealed beneath the coat behind before rejecting it; Harnan can, she imagines, hardly begrudge her the weapon when she has little doubt he wouldn't be caught without his own, no matter how slim the likelihood of needing their weapons may be.
Wondering what manner of greeting awaits her, Faina starts out down the boarding ramp.
Managing to pry Fiora away from Jin for this visit by Faina was probably the hardest task he had to complete. But he had managed to do so in the end, whilst still keeping the purpose of this trip to the spaceport a mystery. The shuttle trip from the Citadel to the spaceport had been uneventful and thankfully the VIP section of the spaceport was kept under tight security. Thus the pair of Ren were able to pass by undetected and make it to the private lounge assigned to the landing bay.
Leaving Fiora up in the lounge, Harnan had made his way down to the hangar floor itself as the Dione glided into the bay and set down upon the ground. While he was still attired in his armour, he only had his lightsaber clipped to the back of his belt. While he did not expect trouble, there was always the chance some third party might decide to do something stupid.
Harnan reached up and removed his helmet, slipping it beneath his arm. His beard and hair were grown out and well showing signs of Harnan’s age: Dark grey with flecks of white. Despite this, the Force kept the effects of his age from bothering him just yet
Reaching the foot of the boarding ramp as Harnan is removing his helmet, Faina, as surprised as she is that he is allowing her to see his face after so long keeping it concealed, is more surprised to notice none of the tell-tale signs of long term reliance on the Dark Side of the Force she would have expected him to bear; no eerie glowing orange-yellow eyes as though he is burning from some internal fire, no darkened veins visible beneath the skin. Though she is not one to spend much time looking at herself in mirrors, Faina sees the grey in his beard and hair and is reminded of the signs of the relentless advance of time she has observed in her own appearance, more gray in her dark blonde hair, crows feet at the corners of her eyes, and more pronounced laugh lines.
Her thoughts about their ages marching ever onward do not occupy her long, and Faina's usual lack of expression gives no hint of them as, true to form, she doesn't waste much time with pleasantries she has never felt Harnan has any more appreciation of or need for than she does, greeting him tersely, "Harnan. Letting her rucksack slide down and around from her shoulder, she opens the top flap and reaches inside, habit and training making her look down just enough to see what she is looking for without letting Harnan out of her field of vision as she asks, Is this where you tell me what this, she hands the oil cloth wrapped holocron, which he asked her to find and bring with her in order to be allowed to see her eldest daughter, out for him to take, has to do with Fiora? Or does that come later?"
Faina... He briefly inclined his head in response before his attention shifted to the rucksack and focuses upon the oil cloth wrapped item. He didn't take the item, instead leaving it resting in her hand as he picked the corners open to reveal the Holocron within. The markings weren't overly specific, but he was sure it was what he was looking for.
He pulled his hand back and shifted his focus up to meet Faina's gaze. She had held up her end of the deal, so now it was time for him to hold up his own. Something he was a little more willing to do without anyone potentially eavesdropping in upon their conversation You can give it to her, given you found it after all... As to how it relates to Fiora, that is a lengthy explanation... How much are you aware about Fiora's mother? Beyond the official propaganda that Nicademus put out...
Faina puts the oil cloth wrapped holocron back into her rucksack and shifts it back onto her shoulder when Harnan says she will be the one to give it to Fiora. A single blink is Faina's only visible reaction when Harnan, beginning his explanation of how the holocron relates to her eldest daughter by saying that it is a lengthy one, following that by asking what she knows about Fiora and Octavian's birth mother; the question a wholly unexpected one that she has trouble, at first, seeing how her answer could apply to how Harnan continues with his explanation.
Faina and Nicademus had never really discussed his relationship with the twins' birth mother, though the fact that he loved her was evident in how he spoke of her when she disappeared; the subject the only thing that Nicademus never opened up to her about completely, which, in turn, led Faina to not press him on it out of respect for what he and Illaria shared. Shrugging a shoulder, Faina admits with no indication in her expression or tone how she feels about the question or how little she actually knows, "I don't know much at all. Tilting her head to the side as she realizes that is not completely true, she adds, I know she was a Shi'ido, not adding that she was made aware of that only after certain traits surfaced in Octavian that made the subject an unavoidable one. Arching an eyebrow as her train of thought gives her some indication of where Harnan might be headed, Faina says after discounting the possibility Harnan might misuse what she is about to reveal to him given the fact that most beings shun those who bear hybrid children, Octavian has inherited some of the Shi'ido abilities. Little things only. He can change the color of his eyes and hair, even his facial features to a limited extent. Faina had, when Octavian had begun to exhibit his abilities, researched Shi'ido and human hybrids, only to find that there was no known account of any such coupling, suggesting that Octavian and his twin are unique. Is that was this is about? Has Fiora shown similar abilities?"
Her initial response that she didn't know much at all was not an overly surprising revelation. Nicademus had certainly played a lot of information close to the chest and revealing only what he needed to. However, the swiftness with which her answer change did come as a bit of a surprise, especially with the revelation that Octavian had already started exhibiting Shi'ido abilities. His brow furrowed a little. It seemed Nicademus had decided such information was not worth sharing Well... that does save a lot of the explanation... Yes, Fiora has rather uncontrollably exhibited such abilities as well. Hair... eyes... facial features... skin colour... Nothing quite like what her mother was capable of, given the hybridity involved. But yes, this is what gathering that Holocron is about... He let out a sigh as he glanced back up toward the Lounge and then returned his focus back around to Faina Kortos was also a Shi'ido with something of a shared past with... her... What exactly it was, I never exactly knew. But he knew her better than I did, and I suspect he had some hand in the research and treatments she took to fall pregnant with the twins... As such, I'm hoping he kept some kind of information or training stored in that Holocron to help Fiora get control of her powers...
Nothing Harnan says while explaining things further proves to be particularly comforting; hearing the fact that her eldest daughter has also exhibited abilities similar to her twin brother's but in an uncontrolled fashion causes a concerned furrow to appear between Faina's brows, and hearing that the twins' birth required some kind of treatments that could potentially have unknown effects anytime only causes the furrow to deepen. Learning that Kortos was also a Shi'ido, and had a past of some kind with the twins' birth mother is surprising, but explains why he would have had a holocron, which might just provide some answers or even Shi'ido training routines or other information that might help Fiora gain control over her abilities, in his possession.
Harnan's demeanor and the fact that Faina has felt through the Force no sense that Fiora is hurt or in pain allows Faina to keep her level of concern from escalating to the point where she feels panicked, and as anxious as she is to see Fiora, Faina wants to be sure that she has as best an understanding of the situation as possible, so she nods after Harnan has concluded his explanation, both hope and concern for Fiora commingled in her tone, "The sooner Fiora has the holocron, the sooner we might learn whether it does have any helpful information on it. Before I see her, so I can have a sense of what she has been going through, what did you mean about her abilities being uncontrolled? That she can't consciously choose to use them, or can only use them at times, or something else?"
