*Gavin walked into the room, though Erik took a seat, he did not. Instead, he removed the sword from his back and set it down against one of the chairs, his pack next to it. He looked in front of him for a moment as Erik asked him about why he was here. He had indeed told Jade about it, and he figured he'd more than likely explain it a few more times. This didn't bother him however. The matter was simply how to explain it in one go without repetition and giving clear meaning. After a moment he turned to Erik.*
"Of course. I expected I'd have to explain at least a few times. It's no problem. Let me see. Perhaps its best to start from the beginning, in a sense." *Gavin crossed his arms as he focused his thoughts.* "I have been inactive in the galaxy for a while. Many things lead to my exile, mostly feeling it was best to disappear. About two years ago, though, I decided to try and rejoin it. A few months ago, I crashed on Kashyyyk. I was there fr a couple days before Sinistra arrived, seeking aid from all she could for the fight against the Mandalorians. I had before wondered where I might go. I've trained with Jedi, Dark Jedi, and Grey Jedi, but never the Sith. I am a seeker of knowledge so I decided to join with them for the battle. In doing so, I hoped to understand the ways of the Sith in comparison to other orders. I was there for a month after the battle was over. I learned a few things before leaving for the Temple here in attempt to learn a little more. At that time, I guess I was considered part of the Empire, though I swore no loyalty to it. I did return to Kuat after my time here, but it was only a few days before I decided to come here again."
*Gavin took a seat and took a deep breath.* " In my time here, I began to wonder what I was really meant to do. I've seen many things, done many things, but after hiding away, one can tend to lose themselves. Fortunately, I had a bit of a guiding light to help me remember." *Gavin looked to Erik with focused eyes.* "I have my own belief about the Force and such, but I'm not what one considers a Light-sider, as I can use it and the darkness, though I tend to slip more to the dark. However, my desire, as I remembered, is to protect what must be protected and fight that which needs to be fought. I desire to protect those I can, especially the civilians caught up in the crossfires of war. I know that not all can be saved, and I don't expect to. The point is that by doing what I can to help them, I know I'm making some bit of a difference. why I came here is because should a war break out between the Empire and the Republic, I know that with the Jedi, there will be more of a desire and more action to protect who they can."
*Leaning back, Gavin continued.* "But I'm not leaving myself to only help civilians. I want to help the Jedi with anything they need. As I told Master Jade, I will not consider myself a Jedi, I can't. I don't have the mindset to be a Jedi again. So in this, I cannot take a padawan. But I'm very skilled in combat of all sorts. I can aid in training with permission of the Council or Master. I also know that some times, there are chances that Jedi become tempted by the dark-side. Some rise above it, very few are capable of actually using it like Mace Windu had before. But there are those who fall. If possible, I'd like to help them from falling into the darkness and lost to the light. I can also take on missions that the Jedi may take caution in due to the possible darkness that could reside there. Whatever it may be, I offer my aid to the Jedi."

Erik listened as the younger man told his story, the abridged version. The jedi was quite intrigued by the man but also very cautious as he had no clear path in the galaxy and had clearly struggled to find one. However the was one thing that Gavin said that resonated with Erik's own thoughts.
"Gavin, you have a very intriguing story, one that would keep many entertained for hours if you were to tell it at length. However I believe you need to take some time, have a really long and hard think about what you really want to do. Your past might have others panicking, especially your darker nature and your time with Lord Sinistra. That alone might have other Jedi trying to kick you out of the temple, or worse. I will send a message the Master Nemo and see if I can arrange a meeting where he can appear via the Holonet. Until then ask yourself, if you won't consider yourself a Jedi, do you really belong in the Jedi Temple?"
Master Steiner stood and gestured towards the door. The meeting had been short and Erik was thankful for that. He was also thankful that he could move this problem over to Master Nemo, he was not sure what he would've done if he was making the final decision.

*Gavin listened to the man speak. Gavin was by far from young and had seen a great many things, things that would break most men, though he preferred keeping it to himself. The thing that bothered him was that Erik had asked him to really think on what he wanted to do. He had been, for some time, not so much searching as much as remembering what he had set himself to do. It was exile that causes one to lose sight of that purpose.
But he did not speak. He felt his words misunderstood when he said he wouldn't consider himself a Jedi. There was much to it, from the way he saw the Force, to the way he carried himself. It was far from the way a Jedi would think or feel. Calling himself a Jedi would have simply been a title he couldn't connect to, something none could truly see him as if they knew him. It was times like this he missed his brother's academy on Kiffu, so long ago, teaching only the Force an understanding of light and dark, unconnected to any order. It was there, also, that his brother restarted the Kiffu Guardians, first as a planetary defense and second as a group that entered battles to aid and evacuate civilians. They had no true part in the war and only fought when they had little choice but to. It was there that everything Gavin learned and believed came into full focus.
But those times were done, the academy nothing but ruins now. Standing to his feet, he gathered his things quickly.* "Of course." *His words were quick and empty. He merely nodded before turning and made his way out of the room, seeking a place to release his mind.*

*A message from the Council Chambers of Felucia was delivered to the High Council Chambers of Coruscant, to be received only by High Councilors as well as distributed to the ones not present upon Coruscant. The message was from High Councilor Aerandir Calmcacil, masterfully stoic in his delivery of the message.*:: My fellow Councilors, I have received some grave news from Knight Isis Matango of Honoghr. As we're all aware, Master Adieumus Matango has not been heard from in some time, but now Knight Matango has reported no trace of him whatsoever. This appears to be another item to add to our growing list of investigations. I am attaching Knight Matango's original message as well. May the Force be with us. ::*The message would then fade, though the attached message mentioned would be accessible, and would produce a hologram of Knight Isis Matango and Doctor Jena Shaewe of Honoghr, with Ice speaking.*:: Greetings Master Calmcacil. I hope this message finds you well. I myself have been better, I must admit. There's no easy way to say this so I'll just say it....I'm contacting you to inform you, and the other Councilors, that my husband, Jedi Master and Councilor Adieumus Matango, is missing. He left Coruscant, with Master Shaewe, to go help out at Kuat and hasn't been seen or heard from since then. Our personnel have searched through our fleet of medical ships and haven't found any trace of him. We don't know if he went down to the KDY or to Kuat itself. We do not know if he left of his own accord, or was captured....but in any case, he's missing. I have personally not heard from him in close to a year now, so I have no idea where he could've gone. I felt it prudent to inform you, and the other councilors, of his disappearance. I am organizing a search team here on Honoghr and will try to retrace his last steps from Kuat if at all possible.
If it's just as case of him being on Watchmen business, I would humbly suggest that you inform me so I don't go on a wild bantha chase. Thank you for your time, and I hope we can speak again under less unfortunate circumstances. ::With a polite respectful bow from both women, the holomessage ends.......

Shihab arrived at the doors to the Council Chamber and stood there before the doors, having sent an alert to any resident masters that he had requested a general audience, via commlink. Now he would await their pleasure, to the best of his ability. He settled once more into his light trance, keeping his auditory input within his awareness, in case he should be addressed by anyone. Having come straight from the trial, he still wore the black jedi robes, and his light saber on his right hip, his charric, on his left hip.

Master Rawkill arrived to the entrance of the High Council Chambers not too long after Knight Mahir had, before moving bast the Jedi Knight and pushed open the doors to the Council Chambers, before entering them himself. He had not entered the Chambers for some time now, in fact, if he remembered correctly, he had last been here when all the Masters of the Jedi had gathered to elect a new High Council. Now, not only was he here because Knight Mahir had requested a general audience, but because he would need to deliver his report to the High Council regarding the most recent Trial held in the Senate. He then motioned towards Knight Mahir =Jedi Master Rawkill= Come, be seated inside...

Shihab pulled himself out of his meditation, and moved forward, as instructed. He took a seat where he was told to, and waited for further instructions. He noticed that only Master Rawkil was present at the moment and hoped that others would arrive as well, but felt that Rawkil was an appropriate choice if he had to report to only one Master.

Rawkill took a seat amongst the main Council seats, after having shown Mahir to one of the guest seats, as he hoped that the High Council members would show up, or call in, soon, since the whole reason he had come here was to address them. Otherwise, he feared he might be the only one to sit through what ever Knight Mahir had to say to the Masters, most likely with regards to the most recent trial he had been involved in, to which Rawkill would have a few choice words in response to

In High Councilor Jade's chair a hologram suddenly sprang into being and then solidified. The diminutive female was without her outer robe, and the deep green of her tunic displayed her black shoulder tabards and belt to advantage. She flicked a glance at Rawkill, and then focused upon Shihab Mahir.
Greetings fellow Jedi
Her voice sounded only faintly hollow as a result of transmission over a long distance.

Shihab did not recognize the new arrival, and did not visibly respond to her greeting, knowing that it was not directed to him. He waited patiently for the others to arrive or for one of the masters already present to ask him to speak.

*The holographic form of Aerandir Calmcacil, in white robes, also appeared in the council chambers, in the motion of folding his arms. His expression was stoic, as it tended to be during serious matters, which he pretty much expected this gathering to be; it seemed that the last few times the Council had gathered, it hadn't exactly been about good news. But nevertheless, whatever this gathering held, he would approach it no differently than before.* :: Greetings, my friends. ::

Rawkill gave a bow of respect as the two members of the High Council appeared via hologram, meaning he could at least deliver his report regarding the recent trial, and Mahir would probably have his prefered audience for his proposed meeting he had requested. Things were going to start getting interesting around here, especially since the Chancellor had also requested his presence following the conclusion of the Senate Session, which he was much obliged to do =Jedi Master Rawkill= Master Jade... Master Calmcacil...

Shihab, sensing that it was time to speak, stood to address the council, but did not move from his seat. He hoped everyone could see him, and spoke in a low, gravelly voice that carried through the room with ease.
Masters, My name is Shihab Mahir, I earned the rank of knight in the Mandolorian Crusade. I was recently involved with the affairs over and on Ryloth. At the conclusion of those events I found Crom'nen who demanded a trial for the failures of those who had promised him personally, that his people would be safe. I agreed to stand in for those responsible, since I carried part of the blame, having been tasked with the defence of Ryloth. I apologize for the unexpected publicity this and lack of warning on my part, to the council as to the intent of the trial. Crom'nen want's to avoid a similar mistake at any cost to his person. Many now revile him, for doing what needed to be done, as things stood the old charter was often ignored by Jedi and republic officials alike, perhaps due to it's antiquated language and difficult phrasing, as is common with many of the Republic's original documents. If this council deems my actions to be unworthy of a Jedi Knight, so be it. I knew this was a possibility from Ryloth. You know what i have done, and may have seen what I said during the trial, and I came here to clarify my actions if necessary, and accept the council's judgement of my actions on its behalf.

Rawkill turned his attention to Mahir, as the Stenax Jedi Knight rose from his seat and addressed the gathered Masters, of which there was decidedly too few, considering just how many had been present during the last elections for the High Council. It seemed that the battle of Kuat had affected their numbers far more than he had anticipated, or the rebuilding works had stretched the Jedi thinner than he had realised before now. His thoughts soon turned towards the words of Knight Mahir, whom had barely been a Jedi Knight for even a year, since it seemed he had received a field promotion during the crusades, and already he had caused a great deal of controversy that the Jedi did not need right now. Rawkill highly doubted that Crom'nen was pursuing some selfless act of sacrifice, as Mahir seemed to believe, and those that reviled the twi'lek did so, rightfully so. As to the Jedi Knight's words and actions, well, Rawkill had seen them first hand when he sat at the trial, trying to not only make sense of the horrid logic that was being presented, but attempt to descern a way to keep things from getting too far out of hand. But, alas, that point had already long passed, when Mahir had chosen to appear in that convoluted sham of a trial, that Crom'nen had tried parading as an open inquest, without consulting anyone. Now, not only did they have to pick up the pieces of a shattered Order, but they had to deal with repairing this alliance with the Republic, a situation that had become far more public than it should have been. Rawkill shook his head, as Mahir finished speaking, feeling he should be the first to add to this, as he stood up on his seat =Jedi Master Rawkill= Having been present at that trial, I think I can say that your Knighting was quite ill advised, especially considering the situation we now find ourselves in. Whilst I have no doubt your fighting skills are worthy of your rank, your lack of foresight in this situation, and ability to think clearly about seeking the Council's guidance, show that you have a long road of learning yet to travel. I'm afraid Crom'nen has played you, used your feelings of guilt and inexperience, to make a situation that could have been better dealt with privately, into a public spectacle, for his own political means. Not only do we have a shattered Order to try rebuild, something I have no doubt the Mandalorians are now celebrating, but we now have to rewrite an alliance that was torn apart in the full view of the public. That's without touching upon the now public war crimes of the man you view as self-sacrificing, and whom will now have his actions unwisely defended by the Republic, because the threat the Empire represents has been far too underestimated. So, Knight Mahir, please clarify how any of that is going to be in the best interests of everyone? Rawkill had maintained a steady and calm manner as he spoke, not letting his feelings affect him as he listed everything off, before retaking his seat as he finished speaking, to allow Mahir a chance to respond

The holographic image representing the Corellian High Councilor flickered for a moment before once again solidifying. The small woman nodded in greeting to her fellow High Councilor, Aerandir Calmcacil of Felucia. Emerald green eyes flicked over to Jedi Master Rawkill, sitting on the Council of First Knowledge and recently returned from Yavin IV where he had apparently conducted himself in a manner of distinction. As he spoke she shifted in her seat and watched Shihab Mahir narrowly. While the words of Rawkill's declaration were harsher than she would have used as an opening, she knew that sometimes blunt honesty was better than a politeness that concealed misunderstanding. She hoped Shihab would rise to the occasion and prove himself worthy of his Knighthood.
While Ryloth had led to a fiasco within Jedi/Republic affairs she knew there was no way to go back in time and change the past. What they had to deal with here was the present, and of more concern, the future. Relations between the Republic and the Jedi had been stretched during the recent Mandalorian Force Jihad. Some within the Senate had begun questioning the relevance of the Jedi Order, even to the extent of perhaps floating the idea of abandoning the Jedi to the Mandalorian hunger for galaxy-wide dominance. Eventually a coalition led by Sinistra Corsai had asked the help of the Republic and the Jedi. Though under attack themselves, the Jedi had answered. The result had been a hard fought battle at Kuat, the repercussions of which were still rippling through the galaxy as each planet struggled to figure out its place in the new order.
Her hands rested along the arms of her chair as she silently willed Mahir to speak, and to speak in a manner worthy of the Jedi.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. If the trial had not been as public as it was, there would still be many senators willing to discard the entire order as unnecessary. Now they are flooded with the communiques of their constituents and clients and being informed of our worth. This trial was a not a contention of facts, but of perceptions. You believed it to be about the facts of Ryloth, it was not, so your views about the trial are slanted against it, as it did nothing to illustrate the facts, though the facts were clearly laid out before the entire galaxy. Certainly, the actions of a few were criticized, but I have faith that the order is capable of withstanding their stain and shining through to people of the galaxy as an order focused on spreading goodwill and light through all regions. If my faith was misplaced, we will all soon know it. As for seeking your guidance, you have better things to worry about, than a mock trial set up to confront the poor perceptions of us held by our allies, and while I did consider seeking this council's advice on the coming hearing, I had all the advice I needed echoing in my ears from the principles that have guided me for the fifty-eight years of life I have lived, only the last twenty of which has been within the order's bounds. You have lived to a mere thirty years, Master Calmcacil is only twenty six himself, only Master Jade has more experience of the galaxy and it's working than I, but she is high demand among the Jedi, so I felt it would be unwise to divert her attention from other matters and that the advice of the others here would mirror that of my family. However it seems this council would rather act in secret, where no one will see what happens, an action ill suited to the light and it's servants. A star's purpose is to give light to all, not to burn away darkness in some remote world. If you wish to act in secret, I humbly suggest you align yourself with the shadows, the home of secrets and forgotten things. i joined the order to better be a light to the down trodden. In my service on Ryloth, I noticed the distinct lack of light standing against the shadow of piracy, a shadow that will never be vanquished, only lessened, and I hope never again to see such men of the order failing so thoroughly. For they brought this order much dishonor in their cowardice. Everything I've done today, I did in the hope that such cowardice would never again find a home within our great order. Master Rawkill, your lack of concern over it's existence worries me. If we cannot rely on each other to stand against so small a difficulty, then how should anyone else trust us to stand between them and even greater foes, such as the Empire that now thrives on Kuat? If they do not trust us, we will face a new purge. In the face of this, I made our work to rectify the wrongs of a few public, so that all could see the order as the trustworthy guardians of peace and justice we claim to be. I only hope we can live up to our lofty words.
My voice holds steady, almost monotonous in its growling bass. I hold no animosity, only regret that some almost deliberately misunderstood Crom'nen and I, much less our actions. I think I have answered him fairly, but time may tell q different tale.

Rawkill had not known what to expect in response from Mahir, considering some of the things he had said, but the Jedi Kngith's response as it was, was not even remotely close to how he had seen things going. He took a moment after Mahir had retaken his seat, to consider his response, quite certain he would divide opinions in a few moments, as he once again rose from his seat =Jedi Master Rawkill= You are right, Knight Mahir, I do have more important things to worry about, such as the rebuilding of Yavin IV after it's destruction at the hands of a blood thirsty war horde, which the Republic did not even lift a hand to help fight, than being forced to suffer through the humiliation of watching a member of this noble order being paraded before the Republic Senate like some show pony. We are the guardians of peace and justice, not some political agenda that needs to be brought before the Senate and made into a public spectacle to gain support of the masses, so that we can keep on going. Unlike the members of the Senate, it is by our actions, and not our words, that we cement our image. You claim to have more wisdom, simply because you are older, but let me assure you Jedi Knight, age is not a guarantee of wisdom, it is merely a guage by which the length of one's life is measured. Whilst it is true that I am your younger, I was born into this order, molded by it's teachings, by your own admission, you have only been with us for twenty years, to whit, I must question just where your intentions lay with regards to the Jedi Order. You claim to have fifty-eight years of experience, but I wonder just how much of that concerns the history of the Jedi and how we truly operate... Unlike the publicity idealism that you seem to have, we do not publicly broadcast our every move. We do not strive to be remembered as great war heroes, nor subjects of public affection. We are the lights within the darkness, that ensure that those within the darkness remain there, forgotten before they can even be remembered. We keep things secret and forgotten, so that the weak and down trodden see only the light, and not the cracks that allow darkness to thrive. Every day, we fight against the darkness in it's many forms, so do not be so presumptious as to assume that piracy does not concern me, for it is amongst the many great evils that reside within the hearts of men. I respect your willingness to want to focus upon it, for it is one of many noble things to fight against, but at the same time, I cannot respect someone who would call those whom willingly sacrificed their lives in the battle against the darkness of the Mandalorian War Horde, and allowed you to still stand here today, cowards. Yes, they pulled out of Ryloth, where an entire Republic fleet was stationed that could easily have handled a handful of Pirates, but that does not make them cowards. They went to Kuat, where they put aside their differences with the Sith, and fought to defeat a war horde, not only to defend all force users, such as you and I, but in the hopes that their light might vanquish the darkness within the hearts of the Sith. Meanwhile, the Republic, and your friend Crom'nen, were busy committing War Crimes of their own, as they prepared to try and call us war criminals for Ryloth. You say that the mock trial was about perceptions and not facts, but you could have fooled me, considering how often Crom'nen used the word facts during his addresses. But perhaps you are right, that it really was about perceptions, because now the entire galaxy no longer percieves the Republic as the bastion of peace and justice that it purports itself to be, but as corrupt criminals that made use of the Mandalorian War Horde to try eliminate thousands of innocents that were being lead by the Dark Tide, because I can assure you now, THAT is now the Empire will spin this... Personally, this pony show that you called a mock trial, that you did not choose to properly inform the High Council of, thus causing us to treat this as something that it apparently was not, has dealt the Jedi Order more dishonour, than the actions of those on Ryloth... Rawkill had done his best to ensure that Mahir understand the gravity of the situation, managing to maintain his calm, with the occasional rise in his voice to emphasise certain key points. He then turned towards the holograms of Master Calmcacil and Master Jade, giving them both a brief bow =Jedi Master Rawkill= Please forgive my outburst, if ever it seemed out of hand... The Ewok Jedi Master then slipped back down into his seat, wondering just how thought out this trial had actually been, consdiering that not only were the Jedi and Republic left to try build a new alliance, but also too, everyone would now know that Crom'nen and Vice-Chancellor Darma were behind a plot to direct the Mandalorians at Kuat, a fact that would not make the Empire happy at all. He had a feeling this cold war was about to heat up real soon, and the Republic would have the actions of a few of it's senators to blame for it

At the words "show pony" Shihab's stance takes on a significantly more menacing slant. The fur-ball want's to name call now and then blame him for the existence of an entity it had fought to preserve? Very well, perhaps the other masters would have something to add to the discussion, so he waited, now glowering at the minuscule fur-bag, though he refrained from lashing out in any way. It kept coming back to Shihab's not asking it permission to go through with the trial, and he began to wonder if it was insecure or just egotistical, as many young beings of great power tended to be, despite their other boons.

The wookiee Jedi Master Sacuru, clad in his electrum plated armour, and his 5 Jedi Guardians, bearing their unactivated lightsaber pike's, arrived to the entrance of the Jedi High Council chambers, having arrived late to the meeting of Master's that had been requested. Master Sacuru had been busy with his induction into the Council of First Knowledge, and thus had been unable to arrive straight away, but as the Wookiee entered the chambers, his Guardians taking up positions outside the entrance, he could tell things were already underway. He stopped briefly in the middle of the council seats, and gave a bow to the Members of the High Council, and his fellow Member on the Council of First Knowledge, before apologizing in shyriiwook // Forgive my lateness... // With his apology made, he then made his way over to the seat next to Master Rawkill, and sat down next to the Ewok Jedi Master. He turned his attention from Jedi Master, to Jedi Master, to Jedi Master, and finally to the Jedi Knight, trying to guage the feeling of the room, since he had missed most of the conversation, based on their stances, seated positions, and the expressions upon their faces. Taking that all into account, he had a feeling he may have arrived at something of an opportune moment within the discussions to break up any fights that might break out between the Ewok Jedi Master and the Stenax Jedi Knight

Master Sacuru. the hologram of Jade nodded in acknowledgement of the Wookiee Master's recent arrival, before returning to Mahir, whose stance had shifted to one of aggression, and the Ewok, who was also noticeably ruffled. She knew neither of them was completely accurate in their assessment of the situation, though she willingly acknowledged that they were basing their words upon their own highly personal experiences. She nodded silently in agreement with Rawkill's assessment that age itself is no sure equivalent to wisdom. When she did speak it was in the quiet, firm tone that was normal for her. Very rarely did she ever raise her voice and yell at anyone, as doing so simply informs others that they need not listen.
"Fellow Jedi, while the Order is united, I urge you to consider that unity. We sit here with our own opinions and argue over semantics. You, Shihab, and you, Rawkill, have each made valid points. But, I ask you to think about how you put them forth." She considered Mahir for a moment, "Your feelings about Ryloth are noted, as well as your opinion of the Order. I appreciate your concern for my welfare, but in the future, do me the honor of allowing me to decide these things for myself. Do not simply cut me out of the equation. And, Rawkill," she looked over at the Ewok and waited till her hologram solidified once more. Reception was sometimes a bit flickery, "you are zealous for the Order, this is to be commended. We all bleed for the tragedy of Yavin IV. But, consider your manner in addressing fellow Jedi, even if technically beneath you in rank." Calm arguments were more likely to be heeded in an atmosphere that was tense, provided the involved parties were open-minded enough to listen. Otherwise the Order would simply devolve into a group of squabbling vultures.
"Perception is key here. While Shihab Mahir has been valiant in what he conceives to be defense of the Jedi Order, the machinations of some of the members of the Senate have been made public. This is good because it allows the people of the Republic to address their leaders and call them to account. Rawkill is concerned with the appearance of the Jedi Order, and Shihab," a deep green gaze looked at him directly across leagues of space, "the issue is unity. By not informing the Jedi Council of your intentions to stand in this mock trial, you did not allow us to stand behind you. Instead, you have cast yourself as a martyr, and the Order as corrupt. I do not believe this was your intent, but it comes back to perception."
She paused for a moment, and then addressed the Jedi at large. "What we must do now is decide how to proceed from here. The Empire has been given an opportunity to escalate the war at our expense. It remains to be seen whether or not the Republic will be able to pull itself together to stand from the reeling blow that has been dealt to it in public opinion as a result of the trial of Shihab Mahir over the events on Ryloth."
The diminutive woman glanced from Jedi to Jedi before speaking. "If your grievances have been sufficiently aired," she paused to take in both Mahir and Rawkill, "then it is time to move forward and rebuild. What is done is done. There is no going back. We may regret. We may remember. And we must resolve to do better. If there is to be a shining future, we must resolve to see it happen. And we must do it as what we are: Jedi." She straightened almost imperceptibly and crossed her arms in front of herself.
