Kuat was considered one of those postings where life was generally uneventful and safe, whilst still holding a sense of pride to be overseeing the famed Kuat Drive Yards and former Throne World of Empires past. Admiral Ner Nanrah had treated the posting with the respect and reverence it deserved, even in spite of the fact it was not a front line combat posting. She'd spent her fair share of time working up through the ranks during the Empire's expansionist phase and then the eradication of the Corellian Coalition. Now, she was more than happy to handle a much quieter posting.
However, such moments of tranquillity were shattered as the Battlecruiser appeared out of hyperspace bearing the call sign of the Ren Flagship, which historical records indicated was meant to be a Resurgent II-class. But the vessel projected on her display aboard the bridge of the Imperial III-class Star Destroyer known as the Khepri was decidedly not a Resurgent II. Tech's were busy working through the archive to identify what the vessel was when the image of Princess Fiora appeared across several displays and her voice came over the comm lines. But in the address she made, she referred to herself as Empress of the First Order and made some very unsettling accusations about the Grand Marshal and Steward of the Imperial Knights How.... how bad is this?
It's broadcasting on military and civilian signals ma'am...
shit... Well, any hopes of limiting exposure on this are gone... She began keying commands across the fleet as the seemingly self-appointed Empress called for surrender of the defending forces, reminding those present they had sworn an oath to serve Emperor Octavian Delvardus. How effective this would be in the face of Fiora and her accusations was unclear. The Knights of Ren had a very mixed reputation, with some of her own forces having served with commands that they had lead in the Unknown Regions and the Outer Rim, others even more recently as the push into the Core and beyond. Comm requests were coming in hard and fast and piling up as more ships soon dropped out of hyperspace in a rather impressive display of might.
Not a single ship came from a recognized model line that immediately alerted up. A fact which served only to make her Tech's life harder as they now added several more ships to have to try and find details on. However, their IFF's were all outputting legitimate call signs for the Knights of Ren and Scourge Squadron. There was a very remote possibility that these forces were imposters. If they were, then they were incredibly good. But A signal tech was already confirming the Princesses encryption codes were checking out. Which meant that this was going to be a very politically dangerous situation to navigate. Something that was not helped as a call came through from the surface belonging to a very agitated Moff Admiral Nanrah, what the hell is going on up there?! Take out these imposters! I dare not imagine the kind of damage this charade is going to do...
Sir, this is no charade, my tech's have already confirmed the Princesses codes.
Nonsense! They must be mistaken! Or... The Admiral sat silent for a moment as Moff Korra seemed to trail off into silence, undoubtedly concocting up some scheme or another Or what, Moff Korra?
The Knights of Ren have finally turned traitors and poisoned the Princess... It was only a matter of time after all... Admiral Nanrah, engage our defences and deal with these traitors! Contact Coruscant for reinforcements...
Long Range Comms are down!
I fear we are alone in this fight Moff Korra... Sir, I have to ask, are we sure this is a fight we want to engage in?
Admiral Nanrah, need I remind you that Octavian Delvardus is Emperor? Chosen by the late Emperor Nicademus Delvardus the Fourth to succeed him? Or are you turning traitor? I will have your command taken from you and replaced with someone who understands Loyalty! She stared long and hard at the speakers as the Moff made his threat loud and clear That won't be necessary... She had the comm line cut to avoid any further interruptions by the Moff as check ins were made across the fleet. Several XO's were contacted on discreet channels to confirm their loyalty and issue commands to remove their Captains for treason. In some situations this would prove useful, but there were undoubtedly those in entire command structures that would all feel similarly. Tech's started to pre-emptively tag vessels amongst their array of Imperial III's, Imperial II's, Victory III's, Victory II's, Conservator's, and dozen different Cruiser and Frigate classes. Starfighters were deploying out as the defensive stations and ground side emplacements started to take aim started taking aim Princess Fiora and the forces of the Knights of Ren, this is Admiral Nanrah of the First Order. I serve the one true Emperor, Octavian Delvardus. Withdraw now, or be considered traitors to the Empire...

Fiora crossed her arms and let out a pained sigh as she returned her gaze and attention back to the display as Admiral Ner Nanrah appeared with a response to the request for surrender. She'd hoped to avoid as much bloodshed as possible, especially since these were primarily just ordinary citizens of the Empire doing their jobs and duty I admire your sense of duty and loyalty to my Brother, however misplaced they may be... However, as Empress it is my duty and responsibility to safeguard the Empire and remove dangerous elements, any that stand in my way to that pursuit will be removed. She cut off the comm line and signalled to the Master of the Ren and the Grand Admiral Begin the assault. I'm going to lead the assault on the Shipyards. Any questions? I didn't think so... She collected her helmet from the table and slipped it on as she made her way off the bridge. As she navigated the twisting and turning corridors of the Aniquilador-class toward the Hangar Bay where her Wyvern-class Stealth Fighter was waiting. Members of Conquest Flight were already loaded up and waiting. Within moments, Fiora was loaded into her fighter's cockpit and the draconic fighter was lifting off out of the Reaper's hangar bay alongside a flood of other Starfighters. Turbolaser fire and missiles were being traded across the void as She led an assault force toward the Kuat Drive Yards

Ner had not expected the Princess to stand down from her position, especially given she had a sizeable Ren armada arrayed behind her. Her Tech's had already tagged the troublesome vessels within her fleet, targeting data which she had sent down to the Ion Cannons planet-side for them to deal with. The Khepri took the initial lead in returning fire as the Ren Fleet launched its initial salvo. Starfighter pilots were rushed out of their barracks and into their fighters before being rapidly deployed from their motherships. The pair of Golan IIIs were also rapidly waking up as their own starfighters were launched whilst target acquisition was coming online as fast as they could and started adding to the Defenders firepower. Per attack protocol, civilians within the shipyards were immediately being directed to escape craft down to Kuat's surface while defence emplacements and walker forces provided covering fire to the escaping craft.
Ships from the far side of the planet were being called upon and making the short trip around the globe. The Admiral hoped the reinforcements would provide good flanking strikes on their aggressors. But that seemed much too easy for it to actually work, but the additional fire power would be appreciated none-the-less

With Fiora leading the raid upon the Kuat Drive Yards itself, Harnan and Grand Admiral John Smith were left to oversee the Ren Invasion Forces. As the battle begun, the cluster of ships slowly expanded out in a large web as the cloud of starfighters expanded out and engaged the defenders. Bombers began runs against the capital ships and the defence stations, with fighters and interceptors working interference. It was not a plan without some losses, but combat was an imperfect environment and nothing would ensure zero losses. But those they sustained were negligible in the greater scheme. The main focus was punching a hole in the defence line and getting bombers down to the surface to take out the Ion Cannons since they posed the greatest risk to disabling Capital Ships.
Once the guns and stations were down, then they could start working on landing forces and take control of the surface whilst continuing to force he Naval elements to surrender or flee

Admiral Nanrah didn't balk in the face of adversity as the Ren forces began their attack. The Kuat Defence forces were barely getting their Starfighters deployed as attack runs were beginning against the Capital ships and the Stations. Ion Cannon shots were firing up from the surface, taking out the problematic elements within her own forces to keep her commanders focus upon the Ren. Elements of her own fleet were already on the move, but their effectiveness was limited by the work they were trying to do to protect the larger ships from the bomber runs. She wished she could spare resources for the Shipyards, but there was little, to nothing that wasn't already engaged. For now she studied the holoprojection of the planet and the various fleet movements, trying to figure out the best next move

The Mandator V-class Heavy Siege Dreadnought pushed its way out of the Kuat Drive Yards ring behind the Defense line. Fiora could already imagine the litany of alerts spreading across the fleets. She hadn't radioed out yet to alert the Ren fleet, instead choosing a demonstration as a much better method. The Autocannons on the nose of the Dreadnought charged up as it swung around, putting the Golan stations in line and allowing the pair of shots that were fired to traverse the void and punch through the shields of the stations at different locations. Angling the Dreadnought around, the nose cannons were then targeted upon the Khepri as Fiora opened a comm line Admiral Nanrah, stand your forces down or withdraw. The battle is lost...

With the element of surprise and planning on their side, The Ren had brought enough forces to reasonably overwhelm Kuat's defences. It would be one of the few times in this coming war wherein they could muster almost their entire force upon a single world. Starfighters engaged in dogfights from both sides, Capital ships duked it out with heavy artillery, losses upon both sides were slowly starting to mount. For the Ren, their biggest challenge would be the Ion Cannons and the Golans with the former able to take out most capital ships in one hit and the latter having the firepower of an ISD.
So far the Ion Cannons had been firing into the Kuat Defence forces, taking out ships that had sided with the Ren. But soon those behemoths would turn upon the Ren fleet. A growing hole in the defence force line had started to appear and troop transports were being funnelled through it to help eliminate the threat the ground emplacements presented. Which just left the Golans. The fleet itself was easy to manage, but the Stations were designed to deal out damage and take punishment.
Harnan's focus was soon pulled away as a message from Katsumi Ren advising of the death of the local Moff came through. He sent back a thank you before turning his attention back to the battlefield as the Mandator V started to appear on the battlefield from the Shipyards. Its initial lack of radio communication did cause him some concern, but that moment passed very quickly. Short of Imperial Knights having been tricked into this, nothing would stop Fiora and her forces. Something proved moments later as the Dreadnought turned upon the Golans and blasted them each with a single shot.
Harnan ordered the Ren ships to disengage and hold defensives positions as Fiora's ultimatum went out. However troop transports filled with Purge Troopers continued to stream down towards the surface below with Surtidor-class Heavy Cruisers pushing around the enemy lines and making for the surface to land their Legions. Hopefully the Admiral would have the good sense to surrender. If not, well... Harnan was happy to wipe her out

From the moment the Ren arrived an attacked, she had held hope that maybe, just maybe, she could hold them off and force them to retreat. She knew she wouldn't be able to defeat them, but she had hoped to make this endeavour costly to the point that the benefits would not outweigh the losses. Long range comms would have allowed them to call for help, which is undoubtedly why the Ren had jammed them. So all Admiral Nanrah had was what forces already existed here. Which should, in theory, have been enough for a long time.
But that time scale practically evaporated in front of her eyes as the Heavy Siege Dreadnought pulled clear of the Kuat Drive Yards and fired upon the pair of Golan Defence Stations. Sensor alerts screamed out as the guns then took aim at the Khepri and Fiora's voice came over the speakers, offering her a final chance to surrender. Reports were also starting to come through from the surface regarding the death of Moff Korra. Ner let out a sigh as she studied the battlefield, watching the Ren forces pouring through to the surface. There was no way to recover this now. She opened a comm across her fleet All able vessels are to plot a course to Coruscant and jump immediately! There was a mutinous cacophony from her subordinates across the comm line, which she silenced by opening a line back Live to fight another day in the service of the true Emperor! That's an Order! The disagreement died down until everyone was replying with affirmatives. Ner then opened a line to the Ren forces Very well Empress... My forces will withdraw and I shall concede defeat... Better to make this as bloodless as possible, than fight a losing battle here. The Kuat Defence forces started disappearing into hyperspace as the Interdictor's from the Ren side powered down and their forces moved clear. The Khepri, meanwhile, remained where it stood as a voluntary hostage. Kuat was lost to the Ren

She got the feeling Harnan would likely be displeased that she gave the defenders the option to escape, but those that left needed time yet to be shown the truth. They still fought for and believed in Octavian. Once they were properly dissuaded of his falsehoods, they would join her and the Ren. For now, they were allowed to escape whilst orders went across the fleet, with rescue ships and shuttles making for the disabled vessels to assist the crews and help get them back online. Boarding forces were also dispatched to the Khepri to arrest and collect the crew. Transports were also starting to dock with the Mandator V, delivering crew to properly man the Heavy Siege Dreadnought.
Her own forces regrouped upon the bridge as they were relieved from their posts at the reactor. Several more transport loads would be needed before the full crew was delivered, that was to say nothing of the Purge Troopers and complement of Starfighters that would call the Mandator V home. As the crew got settled in, the vessels IFF came online and Fiora bestowed the Vessel its new name: Thanatos.
Admiral Nanrah was brought onboard and throw into the cell block as its first prisoner. The rest of the crew had been separated out into small groups and distributed so that it would be impossible for any of them to escape and take over a ship. Meanwhile, Fiora oversaw the remaining invasion of Kuat from the Bridge

Fiora was not wrong to think that the Master of the Ren was not completely enthused about, but in truth Harnan did not overly care. Ideally they would be more useful alive and turned to the Ren cause once they had seen the truth. Each vessel and crew that was destroyed was also one less that would later serve the Empire. There was a certain acceptable attrition rate that could be allowed, before they would need to reconsider the borders they could manage. For now, Kuat was being secured, they could worry about their next target and the wider Empire later

Whereas Katsumi had been dispatched to the surface, Neith had been part of the orbital forces assaulting Kuat. With the battle over, her own forces aboard The Signora and The Maestra were amongst those deploying to the surface to secure the last pockets of resistance and claim the world for the Ren. Meanwhile, she lounged about aboard the bridge of The Domina as the Pacificador-class Battlecarrier sat in orbit. Admiral Adler strutted about the bridge, the click clack of her black heels echoed around the space and drew the attention of those she passed by into a salute.
For Neith, being confined to the bridge of her ship was rather dull and boring. But she knew there was much and more yet to come. Battles ahead would give her the chance to go out and join the battlefield below or run ops to take out targets within fortified positions. So for the time being she just lounged about on the command chair, hanging across it like a cat trying to fit in too small a box

With the battle over Kuat settled, the more immediate chaos died down, with only minor disturbances from the surface as the Ren Legions got about pacifying the defenders. With the shield of battle now gone, she could now feel a disturbance in the Force from far away. A growing pit of despair erupting within her as she gripped at her head, flashes of visions overwhelming her showing events going on upon Coruscant. The battle for the City, the Palace being overrun, the attack upon the Fel Tower. But more importantly than all that, a cell, within which she could make out Yvaine, Amaris, and one more... Jin... She could feel the pain from the woman she loved, wincing as the love of her life let out a terrible and Force powered scream. Her gaze glancing to the screens and the headlines, her heart sinking when she saw the one responsible for the heartache. She tried to reach out, to touch Jin's shoulder, but the Vision disappeared in a wisp of smoke, evaporating back to reality Coruscant... She felt herself losing her hold on consciousness as she collapsed. Hestia and Hecate were close enough that they could catch their Master before she hit the floor. Lilith and Artemis helped their fellow Squires to ease Fiora into the command throne for the moment Get her to the Royal Quarters and let her rest... Hestia turned to the projected image of Harnan and gave him a nod, before leading the group in carrying Fiora off the bridge to the quarters set aside for members of the Royal Family when visiting the Mandator V. The Tribune Guard stood vigil over their charge

Like Fiora, Harnan had also felt the disturbance in the Force, though he found no visions of what was happening. However he didn't need visions to know that the Coup on Coruscant was under way. Silas had already prepared and advised such events would be happening on a much more expedited scale than originally planned. But that was fine, for they had plans within plans and were ready to spring up a new path which would lead to the same outcome in the end.
With Fiora passed out and recovering for now, Harnan took charge organising the Ren forces and preparing their next stage of attack. Even with Coruscant under siege, there still stood several planets between the Ren and the Galactic Jewel. He just now had to plot the safest, but also fastest, route to the Throne World

Her dreams had offered no respite from the visions that assaulted her of events happening and of those yet to come. She could see Jin and Yvaine held in a cell together, before her vision flashed to Octavian holding a War Council on Bastion, which itself gave way to a series of visions showing different battlefields both in orbit and the surfaces of worlds. Everything leading up to one final point some distance in the Future. Just as she was about to arrive to it, dream turned to reality and her right hand was reaching out as she suddenly sat upright in the bed NOOOOOOOO! The Tribune Guard seemed to tense for a moment, Hestia being awoken at her side Master... Hestia shrugged off her sleep, grabbing a cloth from a bowl of water and dabbing it at Fiora's forehead. The Empress shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts as the cool touch on her forehead helped calm her Hestia... Where is Harnan?

A couple hours had passed during Fiora's sleep, during which Ren forces had secured control of Kuat and installed Syala Haren as Governor of the shipyard world. Any surrendering forces were being rounded up and transported to camps, whilst commanders that had sided with the Ren were rewarded with promotions and accolades. With the battle over, Harnan had taken a transport over from the Reaper to the Thanatos and taken a seat in a corner of Fiora's chambers, waiting until the Empress awoke again.
He sat and watched, waiting until Hestia's gaze and risen to where he was, before he pushed himself out of his seat and walked over toward the bed. He leaned over, supporting himself against the foot of the bed Right here, Empress... His grip tightened on the bed frame as he felt a disturbance ripple through the Force, his attention drawn toward the origin point somewhere far away. It didn't take a genius to work out what had just happened and to who. But it still took Harnan by surprise, since he'd expected Brock to have been on Bastion with Octavian. It wouldn't be long before Silas was reaching out to provide a report, hopefully with good news. He turned his focus back to Fiora then, watching for her reaction

Her senses were still muddled as she came back from her sleep, but as soon as he had moved, her focus had shifted up and toward the black armour clad figure that was Harnan. She watched as he leaned over, moving her hand up and pushing Hestia's hand away from her forehead. Some cool droplets ran down her forehead and along her cheeks as Harnan spoke. She was about to launch into her commands when, much like Harnan, she felt a disturbance in the Force. Her gaze growing distant as her head involuntarily turned toward a point in the room where Coruscant's location was far away.
Her connection with Brock had not been as strong as Faina or Octavian. But what she lacked in a bond, she more than made up for with her powers and abilities to see visions of events. Memories of one of her visions from her dreams was trudged up from the recesses of her mind and played out for her once more. The Fel Tower and the plaza around it appeared as Brock made his last stand against a Legion of Stormtroopers. She'd gotten more control of her powers over the years and become more accustomed to the powerlessness she felt as she watched events unfold. Thus fewer memories of them had found themselves locked away. This moment, however, had not been something she could stop herself from forgetting.
Some presence in the moment tugged at the edge of her thoughts as she watched the stormtroopers firing upon Brock, until her focus turned toward the sky. She instinctively brought her arms up to shield herself as a vehicle came hurtling down toward the ground at her. As the memory of her vision receded she found herself with her arms raised to protect herself from the illusory vehicle. She glanced around the room, lowering her arms down as she focused upon Harnan Brock... is dead... Her hands dropped down into her lap as her head fell forward and she stared down into the covers. The crimson locks of her hair hung down around her face as she felt tears start to well up. Despite the hatred she felt for him, some part of her still felt the pain of his loss. But most of all, she felt fear for what might be happening to Jin We have to go to Coruscant... We have to rescue Jin... I... I need her back Harnan...

Very rarely had Fiora had such a physical reaction to her visions, undoubtedly caused by the manner in which Brock died. But there was nothing he could immediately sense that indicated she had come to any harm. He knew her presence almost as well as his own after their years of training together. But her distress was apparent even before she spoke and said they needed to get to Coruscant. With a wave of his hand, he dismissed Hestia and the Tribune Guard, whom all filed out of the room. He pulled his helmet off then and set it on a table as he sat down on the edge of the bed, half turning toward her And do what, exactly? Charge in with the Thanatos, blast their defences to dust, rush to the surface? Then what? Do you know where they're holding Jin? Because the only thing we'll find, is her corpse. They won't hesitate to kill her, if they know their own deaths are assured. And that... He reached over and slid an armoured finger beneath Fiora's chin, pulling it up slightly so that he could find her gaze Is not an acceptable outcome. We will rescue her, I promise. So long as we are careful, they will keep her alive. Silas' agents will find her and we can mount a rescue. Then we can bring Baltasar to justice. Ok?

A modern version of a Tingel Arm Harrower class Dreadnought dropped out of hyperspace at the out from the planet. The ship was broadcasting IFF codes that were old, valid, but old, likely not valid for years at this point.
The admiral stared out the viewport with is silver flecked eyes at the distant speck that was the planet of Kuat. It had been years since he had been here, a long time ago, a long time. The scenes of death and destruction of the pitched battle where ships hurled deadly energy at one another. The Mandalorian Fleets lead by Ashrah Intalbo against the Sith commanded fleets of Lord Sinistra and the Galactic Empire. A lifetime ago it felt like.
“Sir I am detecting a large amount of non powered items in space around the planet, they are consistent with battlefield debris.”
Old instincts kicked in.
“Shields and battle stations.”
Alarms sounded and crewers rushed to their assigned stations, pulling on helmets to protect against explosive decompression and activating offensive and defensive systems. The shields were up in moments and weapons charged but not actively searching for targets. Pilots who were sitting in their cockpits on standby instantly started up their machines to idle while others, who were off duty and not expecting trouble, scrambled out of their bunks to yank on their flight gear and bolting down the hallways, leaving their rooms in such a way that their training sergeants would have had them doing extra rounds of physical discipline. Crew chiefs and techs ran through abbreviated flight checklists and arming sequences for weapons and other ship systems, even as the pilots climbed aboard.
In less than five minutes the well drilled ship was fully at battle readiness. The admiral was pleased at that, the drilling and practice combat had gotten them prepared, as planned. Essential systems had been up in less than thirty seconds from the time the order left his lips. This was not exactly the homecoming that he had expected. The Empire had been strong, and peace had taken its place. Why was the throne world the site of a battle?
“Sensors, what can you tell me?”
The sensor operator replied without turning. “Scans indicate a recent battle. Not many hulks but there are some ships at the repair areas of the Drive Yard. There is a single Mandator type ship in orbit protecting the shipyards. A sizeable fleet with unknown IFFs are also in a protective formation. Like they are expecting trouble.”
The admiral considered the issue. It had been years since he had contact with the Galactic Empire, but that had been part of the orders. There was really only one course of action. Find out what was going on.
He had the communications officer open a communications channel and broadcast on the last official channels and encryptions that they had on record.
This is Admiral Othin hailing the throne world. Come in please.

She sat on the bed, not lifting her gaze to Harnan even as he set his helmet aside and sat on the edge of the bed. His words only confirmed the fears she had for her other half whom she loved. She hated that everything he was saying was right, even though she wished it were not. As his finger lifted her chin, she finally looked up and met Harnan's gaze, stating that Jin's death was not an acceptable solution. An admission which caught her a little off-guard. She did not particularly consider Harnan a malicious person, in fact he spent a lot of time being very conscientious of her feelings and situation. It just still took her a little by surprise Harnan... An alert klaxon sounded as the Harrower class Dreadnought had dropped out of hyperspace An unidentified vessel has entered the system. Requesting the presence of the Empress and the Master of the Ren on the Bridge.
Grand Admiral Crix Harend closed the internal comm link as he returned his focus to the Dreadnought. Scanner teams were already running the vessels codes through the Ren and Imperial Archives. Shields came online across the fleet whilst the Prow guns of the Thanatos started to take aim. A comms officer spoke up then Sir, we've located an entry in the old Imperial Records, dating for a time before the First Order was founded... Adjusting comms now... The old frequency and encryption codes were brought up, receiving the message transmitted over. Crix nodded to his comms officer, whom opened a line back Admiral Othin, this is Grand Admiral Crix Harend of the Thanatos, servant of the Empress Fiora Ren of the Sixth Galactic Empire, more commonly known as the First Order. I fear Kuat no longer serves as the Throne World of the Empire. Could you state your vessels name and last reported mission?

Terrh’s mind was racing Sixth Galactic Empire? First Order? Kuat no longer the throne world. Clearly a lot had happened since he had last had contact with the Empire. He didn’t even know what the command structure was. A grand admiral and an empress certainly sounded like it was correct, but if the Empire had gone through at least six iterations...who knew what had survived and what had not. He quickly worked through the ramifications of his position. He was sworn to a government that did or did not exist, to superiors...or rather to a specific superior, through a personal vow of loyalty, and that person was not leading the Empire. If however this First Order was the successor to the Galactic Empire, then that was where his allegiance was expected to lie. What the currents in this new empire was he didn’t know, but apparently it was turbulent, quite turbulent.
Grand Admiral Harend, this is the Tears of Kuat, last mission were duties detached from the fleet. Without authorization from Lord Sinistra I am unable to expand on the mission further.
